I'm looking to take European delivery on a 2016 m235i convertible by way of a lease. I recognize that 2106 lease rates are not out yet, but how generally does it work when you lease a car through the European delivery? Is the MSRP upon which the residual is calculated the USA price or the European delivery MSRP
Residual is calculated on the US MSRP. You should be able to negotiate a price that is at least 7% lower than on a non-ED deal.
Interesting. Thanks. Hardly seems like a tradeoff since most people will not be driving the car in the second month as is will probably be in route to the USA.

Planning on a lease for 228i xdrive Convertible, 36months with 12k or 15k miles, MSRP 49,300, Invoice according to TrueCar 47,200...
MF and Residual info would be appreciated. At the same time wondering how I would be able to spot a markup of MF? Assuming I'll know the tier I fall into, what is the calculation here? Is base line MF the best or the worst MF you can get or is there always something added to the base MF, no matter what the credit score? Is it known how the tiers relate to credit scores? Not sure if my dealership uses regular or auto enhanced credit score. Also, is it known if BMW includes Gap in its leases or is that depending on the dealership or an add on? I've read that BMW leases are generally lower than Audi? Does this still hold true? Considering A3 convertible vs. 228i convertible. Does 8% off MSRP also apply to BMW for negotiations? By any chance anyone know how significantly insurance rates differ between these two models (A3 2.0 vs. BMW228i) in NY? Appreciate every little advice and tips for getting a good deal. Thanks!

.00130 and 49% for 36/15. Add 2% for 12k. $500 buildout cash.
I'm interested in a 38k '15 228i. Looking to lease it at 12/36 and would like to keep the monthly payment at or slightly below $390/mo.
Based on 7% discount off MSRP I get a figure around 35,3k. With a RV of 61%, MF of 0.00128, DP of 2k, and California tax of 9.25%, the monthly figure I calculate is around $428.
Is there anyway I could lower it into the $390/mo range (aside from MSD's or greater DP)
Aq. fee and other fee's would be paid on top of DP.

A couple of corrections .. base MF this month is .00130, and the 36/12 residual is 60%, not 61%. Using $37,957 as the MSRP and $35,300 as the cap cost, I get a pre-tax payment of $423.44/mo. Add 9.25% tax and the payment becomes $462.60.
If you use the max 7 MSD, the payment with tax drops to $431.51.
We don't recommend making a down payment on a lease - if the car is stolen or totaled, you lose that money. That said, every $1000 down lowers the pre-tax payment around $28/mo.
A reporter is looking to talk with a Millennial (age 18-34) who leased a luxury car within the last year. If you're able to help, please send your details to pr@edmunds.com by no later than July 29, 2015.
I understand the downsides of putting money down. For the monthly payment to go down another $15, I'd have to negotiate another $540 off the selling price, which is about %1.4 of MSRP. Any ideas on how best to handle that?

No specific method - just the old "if you don't ask, you don't get" mentality.
Oh, and get a few dealers involved to bid against each other. Competition helps the consumer.
Thanks! This might be a silly question, but oh well: Can I ask other dealerships to give me a quote for the same car? i.e can 1 particular car go from 1 dealership to the other?

They can ask for a dealer trade, but it's unlikely that the dealer with possession will be willing to cough it up for a lower price.
Try to find a similar car at another dealer. If you're fixated on a specific color or option spec, you lose some power in the negotiation.
Since we are approaching the new model year transition period, I have the option of leasing a 2015 M235ix in August vs waiting for a 2016 in September. How do financing deals change during this time? e.g. RV & MF for 2015s vs 2016s (both lower for 2015s?)? Since there are not that many changes to the car, I expect MSRPs to be similar. Dealers should be more negotiable on the 2015s; but is there a sweet spot in terms of lease deals? Thanks!

I haven't yet seen a difference in MF between the 2015's and the 2016's - they are both .00130. Residuals may be slightly better on the '16's, but better transaction prices on the '15's make up the difference.
Thanks for the info. Was hoping that the 5% difference in residuals between 2015 and 2016 was not true -- but since it is have to say nope to my ED of a 2016 m235i. Seems to me by its own estimation of residual value, BMW is telling us that 2016 m235i's are going to depreciate so bad in the next three years that one would have to be a fool to buy one.

Well, that may not be true. It's also possible that the residuals on the 2016 are so low as to encourage folks to lease a leftover 2015 until the stock is depleted, then the residuals on the '16's may come back up.
Perhaps. But is seems to me the way to move 2015s without hurting 2016s is to "increase" the residuals on 2015s. Because right now, no matter how you cut it, BMW is saying that 3 years and 36,000 miles from now, a 2016 m235i bought today is going to be worth 5% less than a 2015 m235 also bought today.

What does RV and MF go to for 39mo/10kmi lease?
Base MF and correct residual. You may be able to negotiate a little bit more off sticker, though you're at 5% already.

Seems residual dropped 1% for July from June. June residual for 10K was 62%, July 61%. MF pretty much the same.
I'm looking at and deciding between 2016 M235i coupe, 340i Msport, or maybe a 2 series vert, then there is also the Audi S3.

Ask the the dealer what MF they are using.
Gap is included.
BMW usually leases better than Audi.
5-7% off sticker is good pricing for BMW.

MSRP: $37,957
Negotiated price: $35,300 (based on 7% off MSRP)
MF: .00130
RV: 60%
Residual amount: 37,975 * 0,6 = $22,785
Depreciation Fee: (35,300 - 22,785) / 36 = $347,64/ mo
Finance Fee: (35,300 + 22,785) * .00130 = $75,51/ mo
Monthly payment pre-tax = 347,64 + 75,51 = $423,15
With tax = 423,15 * 1,0925 = $462,29
With $2,000 DP: 462,29 - (2000/36) = $406,74
