I recently ordered a 2015 428i Grand Coupe with M Sport Pkg @ 36 months with 15K miles per year. I was able to obtain a 6% reduction off MSPR or $105 above advertised invoice. The dealer ran my credit and came back with an excellent credit rating. The finance manager said he was using a money factor (MF) of 0.00169 and said if I put down money on the multiple security deposits (MSD's) up to 7, then they could reduce my rate to 0.0013. Yes it the MSD is reimbursable at the end of the lease and over 36 months one is saving on the monthy payment.
My question is if I have documneted excellent credit, then why am I at .00169 versus being offerd the lowest MF rate from the start? I have to give BMW money to reduce my rate. Is this correct?

The base MF this month is .00129, so your dealer is marking it up on you before discounting with the MSD. I would tell the dealer - politely, but firmly - that you won't sign a deal with a marked up MF. I'm sure they are doing this to offset the large discount in the selling price.
Michaell, Thank you for your quick response. I figured something was not right. Even if one looks at the BMW site and with the offered finance rate of 3.11%, to calculate the MF from the % APR you divide by 2400 which comes out to .00129. Do you have a document that says what the BMW MF is you can share?
Hi, I wanted to get a monthly quote. for a 2015 2 door coupe 428i sport package. Based of a negotiated price of 45k, with the max amount of multiple securty deposits. can you please provide the break down of mf and residual. thank you for your time

There is not enough information available.
The base MF for BMW in October is .00129.
But, we would need to know the MSRP, the lease term and the number of miles per year you want to have before we can model a payment.
Is there any good valid reason to add the wheel and tire along with the wear and tear pkg? The Finance director said for tire coverage they do over $35,000 a month in claims out of there service department alone so feel its a good deal ..of course. Is it worth the peace of mind at $1149 for wheel and tire for example.

With your MSRP and selling price, I get a pre-tax payment of $482.03.
Sure appreciate this info. I sent an email to the finance director yesterday about the MF rate being jacked up (0.00169 to start versus 0.00129) and he asked me to call him....so will see what he has to say. Also is there also an "Ultimate Drive Event" discount available or is this only at selected BMW dealers?

You have to attend a Drive Event to get a $1000 coupon.
Ref base MF rate you said for this month at .00129. The BMW finance director called me back and confirmed the Oct MF rate is.00175 for super elite and emailed me the cut sheet showing all rates from Super Elite (.00175 to Progressive Plus at .00295). He said I am under a sub-vented program as to why they can offer .00169?? at super elite rating.
He said cause the 428i Gran Coup is new this year, rates start at .00175 for the highest credit. I asked him again was there a base rate out there from BMW at .00129 and he said no there is not. I asked him about making a conversion to get a comparison from the interest rate to MF by dividing by 2400. He said there is no such thing at converting the APR rate to a MF rate and are instructed not to make mathematical comparisons as they are two different finance programs.

So now whats really going on...
Time to start working with another dealer...
Base rate for 2015 428i GC - heck, for all 2015 BMW models - from BMWFS is .00129.
Either the dealer is trying to finance you with a different company or ... well ... he is not being honest with you.
I am trying to upload the PDF or email attachment but it's not accepting. Ideas?
You are trying to use the "upload" button at the top of the text box? I've seen other posts where that has been done successfully.
Hmmm - there is a troubleshooting discussion here at Edmunds where you can get better help. I'm about as familiar with the tools as most users - which is to say, not much.
I don't know where those numbers are from.. but, the base MF is .00129, and BMWFS allows dealers to mark it up to a maximum of .00169 (think that is a coincidence?).
Not to be disrespectful or anything but I have Edmunds and the dealer on totally opposite ends of the MF spectrum. It would be helpful if you can post the BMW MF rates for validation. How as consumers do we know that the MF rate your providing is accurate? If the dealers sheet they sent is wrong then please disprove this with the MF sheet.
Don't forget dealers lie, twist the truth and some dealers will mis-lead you with info and pricing thinking you are a uneducated buyer. Make these dealers prove it to you. Do not take there word.
By getting as many dealerships as your willing to travel to involved in the price wars will lead to you making the best possible deal.

No not saying I don't trust this forum at all. In fact I do and very appreciative. at this point do I trust them based upon my conversations. Just asking the questions so I am better informed.
Can Edmunds post the MF rate sheet if not why not. Has Edmunds looked at the MF rate sheet the dealer provided.

jpete5, the sheet you posted does not mean anything, the dealer fills in the numbers. This discussion forum is sharing of information by forum members and mods. Edmunds is not publishing these numbers. You can try some other automotive forums or email other dealers to check the numbers. At the end of the day you have to be happy with the final deal, don't sweat the math. One dealer can mark up the rate and still offer a better final deal than another who uses the base rate. That being said I would be walking...
For all it's worth, my MF in April was 0.00131, which was the original offer from the dealer ... this forum suggested the base rate at the time was 0.00130. It is highly unlikely that BMW raised the base rate to 0.00169 6 months later!
Thank you for the info. I do understand what your saying and have greater trust in this forum versus the dealer I'm working with at present. I'm this close to telling them Im not doing the deal. FYI I had to put down $1,000 to order the car. Can they keep this or are they required to return it?

Depends on whether you've signed anything stipulating that the deposit is refundable or not.
An honorable dealer would return the money if a deal hasn't been struck.
Thanks Michaell and others who haev chimed up. All great info. I have informed the dealer I will accept .00129 at 60% residual or no deal. Also have a few others in the works.

Residual is set by BMWFS and cannot be modified by the dealer.
You should also consider using MSD to lower the MF.
@jpete5 I just ordered my 428xi and insisted that I get the base MF as the guys stated here on the forum. You dealer has a PDF document on their computer from BMWFS that shows base MF and residuals that are set by the company. I saw it on my dealers computer and can confirm the numbers. Ask your salesman to show you that document. Good luck.
Hey Michaell, thanks for all the great info. Do you anticipate the MF and Residual for the 2015 428i Gran Coupe to still be .00130 and 63% in November? Lease for current car ends in mid-November and need to get started on the next! Thanks!

Magic 8-ball is in the shop, but I wouldn't expect too much of a change in the numbers for next month.
Base MF is .00129 this month. RV is 63% for 36/10. $750 innovations credit in October.
Thank you!! I'm trying to do the calculations with MSDs and want to make sure my math is right.
I'm shooting for the invoice price per Edmunds TMV calculations. For a 428i GC with Luxury package, Premium package, and anti-theft alarm the invoice price is listed at $41,935.
63% residual value of 41,935 = 26,419.05
MF .00129 with MSDs maxed out would be .00129 - .0049 = .0008
For these numbers plugged into the Edmunds auto lease calculator (with 603.00 estimated in title, registration and other fees) it has my total loan amount at $42,439 for monthly payments of $544.
After you factor in 7 MSD payments of $550 and subtract that from the total (since it will be returned at the end of the lease) the real monthly payment comes out to $437.05
$544 (monthly payment) x 36 months = $19,584 $550 MSD x 7 = $3850 = $15,734 / 36mo = $437.05
Assuming I get the desired invoice, MF and residual above does this look right to you guys? Just want to make sure I have all the numbers right so i can shoot this out to all the dealers. Thanks!

A couple of points .. are you sure that the invoice is only $41K? That seems awful low.
And, your calculations for the application of MSDs is off ... the money given up front does not impact the payment, only the affect on the MF does.
The $3850 is given to BMWFS up front and they return it to you at the end of the lease. In return, the MF is lowered from the base of .00129 to the adjusted value of .00080.
You calculate the lease the same way, just with the new MF. The payment is probably lowered by $30-50/mo.
The residual value is computed against the MSRP, not the invoice price.
Hello Michaell, thanks for catching those mistakes!
That invoice price was what came up when I used the TMV tool and plugged in all the options i wanted. $37,075 was listed as the base invoice without options and with the luxury, premium, and anti-theft alarm factored in at invoice it came out to the 41K figure. The actual TMV came out to 43k. Do you think the pricing data that Edmunds is using is off?

I'm shooting for the invoice price per Edmunds TMV calculations. For a 428i GC with Luxury package, Premium package, and anti-theft alarm the invoice price is listed at $41,935.
63% residual value of 41,935 = 26,419.05
MF .00129 with MSDs maxed out would be .00129 - .0049 = .0008
For these numbers plugged into the Edmunds auto lease calculator (with 603.00 estimated in title, registration and other fees) it has my total loan amount at $42,439 for monthly payments of $544.
After you factor in 7 MSD payments of $550 and subtract that from the total (since it will be returned at the end of the lease) the real monthly payment comes out to $437.05
$544 (monthly payment) x 36 months = $19,584
$550 MSD x 7 = $3850 = $15,734 / 36mo = $437.05
Assuming I get the desired invoice, MF and residual above does this look right to you guys? Just want to make sure I have all the numbers right so i can shoot this out to all the dealers. Thanks!
