Has anyone had a car starter installed in an '03 Accord? I had one in my Ford and loved it and want to get it installed in my Accord. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with it in an Accord.

I just received the avelectronic unit today, and I will screw around with it today and tomorrow to see if I can get it installed. I will also post detailed directions and pictures of how to install this unit. I got the adapter from www.avelectronic.com for $525.

Does anyone know what percent you are allowed to tint your windows in Ohio?
  • ruppenthalruppenthal Member Posts: 2
I'm the owner of a brand-new Accord V6 with Navigation System. I LOVE my new car, but hate the heat the black interior generates. I want to have the windows tinted to cool & protect the car. But before I do, can someone give me a definitive answer on this question: can I have tint installed on this car without it interfering with the GPS antennae? I called a tint shop in town and they said they've installed plenty of tint on Nav equipped cars without a problem. The only tint they've used is metallic-based. BUT... I've read and heard on this board and others that this might be a problem. Any experiences out there with either metallic (or non-metallic) tint that you can share? I'd be very grateful. Thanks in advance....
  • ruppenthalruppenthal Member Posts: 2
A followup to my previous message: the tint shop I called didn't specify that the cars they had tinted with Nav systems were Accords. Again, thanks for any advice...
  • htthtt Member Posts: 75
My '04 EX V6 w/ nav has metallic tint. The dealer did it. I haven't noticed any problem with the nav since Feb. The dealer charged about $200 for it. Independent shop quoted $260 with metallic tint. Both offered life time warranty. You should ask for a quote from your dealer.

The nob above the rear window is actually for the satellite radio. Unless Honda also put the NAV antenna in there as well.

I just ordered an Accord EX-V6 with Navi and will be picking it up this week. I am interested in some accessories and would like to hear about some experiences anyone has had. Will dealers work with you on prices? Are they covered by warranty? Has anyone tried to install themself and if so how has the process gone? The items I am looking at are:

    Rear deck spoiler
    Fog lights
    Moonroof visor
    Day/Night Mirror

    Any response is appreciated.
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
I have the rear decklid spoiler and the fog lights installed in my 2004 sedan. I got my prices on the accessories from www.handa-accessories.com and then negotiated the price with the dealer. I wouldn't attempt installation myself because there is drilling required for the spoiler and they have to cut into the front bumper to install the fog lights. My understanding is that the accessories are covered for 3 years/36,000 miles if you have them installed by the dealer.
  • mburlesnmburlesn Member Posts: 9
Do you mind telling what you paid from the dealer? I mentioned the accessories web site to them but they didn't budge. They are quoting me $569 for spoiler and $435 for fog lights both at installed prices. Thanks for the response.
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
The price for fog lights sounds about right but I'd keep working on them about the spoiler. Better yet just get the priced off of the accessory sites and come up with a price that you are willing to pay for the whole car. Give them a fair amount for installation but not much more. There are many Honda dealerships out there. Shop around.

From what I was told, the Navi antennae is located under the front hood of the car. The metallic tint may interfere with the FM/AM antennae wire which is in the rear window along with the defroster wire.
  • tlaurotlauro Member Posts: 504
the Navi System Antenna is in the back deck. Metallic tint will definitely cause a reduction in it's ability to lock onto the sats. Regular tint....haven't had anyone comment on it being a problem, but it will likely reduce it somewhat.

I just bought the TV tuner adapter from avelectronic, and I'm trying to figure out how to power it from the trunk instead of trying to run a wire to the front. Can I just splice the power wire from the TV tuner into the ECU power wire from the navigation unit? What wire actually powers the navigation ECU? Any help would be appreciated.

Wait a moment, we have our Accord tinted with 5% dark tints in the back glass and the two rear passenger windows. In the front we have 20% dark tints. This is of course the standard tint, not the metallic ones. I did not notice any changes in the Navigation or Radio functions. Actually the vehicle is so much cooler inside and the A/C doesn't have to work as hard to keep the interior comfortable. The tinting totally changed the appearance of the vehicle, looks much nicer.

... and I have not had any problems with the tint affecting the navigation system. I used the system for 4 months before having the tint installed (Formula One - North Carolina), and there has been no change in the performance of the Nav system... and this includes trips to Manhattan, where some people have reported problems with Accord Navigation systems WITHOUT tinted windows. Even the AM/FM radio is as clear as ever. Best of all, my black leather interior stays much cooler when the car is parked in the sun all day. I highly reccomend tinting the windows, especially for people who live in the southern parts of the States. I used the most expensive tint they carried... I'm not sure if that made the difference... they claimed that it was the same tint used on the windows of the space shuttle.... who really knows? All I know is that I have had good success with it.

The first Screen Error Message on Troubleshooting page 81 of the 2004 Accord Navigation System manual reads:

Navigation system is unable to acquire a proper GPS signal.

    The Solution reads:

Make sure there is nothing on the rear shelf blocking the GPS antenna....Rear window tinting and after-market devices can affect the GPS reception.

I have a 1998 Accord Ex with the 4 cyl. I have installed an AEM cold air V2 intake, a DC 4-2-1 Header and a Greddy Catback stainless exhaust. The performance gains have been minimal.
Does anyone have some advise (or a good website) as to whether I should install oversize injectors and/or remap the computer? Any info is appreciated.
  • rueshanrueshan Member Posts: 32
.. it seems that we have two groups; 1) people who have installed tint and have had no problems, and 2) speculation and quotes from manuals that say you might have problems. It's possible that someone may have posted here saying that they installed tint and had problems with their nav system, but I haven't seen it. However, many shops are willing to put a temporary piece of tint in the middle of the back window, and this will allow you to test your nav system with the tint in place if you are afraid of having problems. But it seems to me that all we see here are success stories.

I installed the K & N Air Filter in my 2004 Honda Accord EX V6 a couple of weeks ago. I would like to add a cold air induction kit. Can I add the cold air intake kit to my Accord WITH the K & N Air Filter, or will I have to take out the K & N Filter to add the intake kit? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would like to add a couple of things in my navigation conversion so that my wife can watch DVDs on the stock screen.

I had a heck of a time trying to hook this thing up. It's because the directions weren't too clear. I did not want to hook up the yellow brake light wire to the brake light because I wanted my wife to watch DVDs while I drive (for those of you worried that I might watch movies while I drive, I have installed a plastic device that keeps me from watching the movies while I drive). Since I have one of the newer units from www.avelectronic.com, I could not, I repeat, could NOT hook up the red wire (power wire) to the yellow wire. If I did that I would have fried the unit. I paid a kid at Best Buy to hook up the unit (under the table, they won't hook it up incorrectly at Best Buy) while he was off from work. He hooked up the yellow wire to the brake light, but I just took that yellow wire and attached to the brack (ground) wire. I tested the unit and it worked! Now my wife can watch DVDs while we drive. It's great!

Absolutely the prices are negotiable. Keep in mind the prices advertised on Honda's web site do not include installation. Some of the components are easy enough to install on your own, some like the fog lights and rear deck spoiler might be a bit more complicated.

I was going to get the Day/Night mirror from my dealership when I bought the car, but the sales manager actually advised me against it - he said he'd seen lots of problems with the 2004 mirror.

As for warranty, if you buy them with the car they are covered under the car's warranty. If you buy them separately, they are covered under their own warranty, whatever that may be.

    Very Neat.

I am in the process of doing the same.

I have an 04 EX accord with 6cd player.
I want to put my Blaupunkt mp3/cd player in addition to my 6cd honda player.

I got the same kit as you.
I was thinking of hooking up my mp3 player as the Aux to the honda player.

But the wiring harness that comes with the kit is NOT for the Aux.

So my question is that does your factory cd player work or you gave it up ??

    thanx

Saw your post. Unfortunately, if I understand your question correctly, you'll end up getting rid of your newly purchased air filter. A cold air intake system will replace the whole OEM air intake that is in your car and where you just installed the K&N filter.

K&N does make the cold air intake system for the 2004 Accord. I've thought about it myself but, for around $175 to $200 it is kind of expensive for me right now.

Did you notice any improvement with the addition of just the K&N filter replacement you've already installed?

Included with my Accord was some brushed aluminum trim under the center console and on the front door handle areas. I want to purchase more of the trim but want to make sure that it matches. I got a sample from a vendor on Ebay and it was the cheap bend able material and didn't even come close to matching the trim already included with my Accord. Can anyone that has the aluminum trim installed recommend a good OEM vendor that will match the trim which came with the car to begin with?

Has anyone upgraded speakers with a multi-channel amp on an Accord with Navi? I am wondering about the feature on the Navi that seems to silence the front speakers when the system needs to "talk" to you (give you directions). I am not sure if replacing the speakers and adding an amp would disrupt this system. As is stands now, the system for quieting the radio so you can hear the Navi voice is pretty nifty.

Furthermore, does anyone know if modifying the audio system by adding an amp and replacing speakers voids the warranty in any way? I actually bought the extended Honda Care warranty. Anyone know if the Honda Care warranty is voided in this case?

The rear deck spoiler really dressed up my 04 EX V6 with Navi (Graphite) and I love the day/night mirror!
  • tlaurotlauro Member Posts: 504
The only change noticed on the Navi system by adding two amps....one for my main speakers and the other for the sub is a 1 sec delay in the voice of the Navi Prompts if the radio is off. Basically it's due to the system running through the amp. No bid deal at all. You can have the radio on and turned all the way down and it will not be noticable at all.

The only way you'll void the warranty is if the changes you make cause the issue with the system. So if your screen dies or something...no, it shouldn't be affected.

if you added a K&N panel filter to replace the stock one....save it for if you ever sell the car. go buy an AEM or Injen type Cold Air Kit and you'll be very pleased. There's no difference in performance or mpg's with just a panel filter.

any cold air kit is just the begining of mods. the gains will be cumlative over time as you add more. of course you'll here gains in hp and mpg's, but that's all very minimal at first. most hp you'll pick up is 5-10hp in reality. mainly at the top end of the rpms where you can actually feel the motor pulling stronger and breathing better.

again, nothing huge, but certainly a start and well worth doing so long as you don't mind the roar you'll hear when you floor it :)
  • steven5steven5 Member Posts: 17
    Hey tlauro,

Do you by chance drive an 03-04 Accord with the V6? And have you installed the cold air kit?

I'd like to know just how loud it can get when you punch it? What it sounds like during normal driving? And, anything you'd like to relay about installation of the intake.

    Thanks!
  • tlaurotlauro Member Posts: 504
I have an AV6 Sedan with a number of mods including an AEM CAI.

If you've not had a CAI before, then the best I can say is that at normal to moderate performance it's normal. You won't know it's there. Open it up and you'll here a very pleasant roar from it as it pulls air in through the fender.

Not difficult to install so long as you're comfortable removing the battery and all the stock intake items. Takes about 30-40 minutes total.

You can clean the filter once per year through the wheel well if you're understanding of how to remove the shrowd that lines it. However, you can just remove the battery and what not and pull it out from there too.

Thanks for the response. It was very helpful. I've looked at the Typhoon kits from K&N and reviewed the installation instructions. Doesn't look too difficult to install.

I took a look back at the pictures of your car. Didn't figure out who you were until you responded to me. I thought your car was very tastefully done. Good clean look, no one would know of the modifications you've done from looking at the outside. I like the "sleeper" approach rather than alot of the over the top mods I see all the time here in Houston.

I'll see about posting a couple of pictures of mine here soon.

How do you post a picture on this site?

I would like to know if anyone has replaced the factory pocket with an aftermarket kit that could house a DIN-sized DVD player underneath the radio. I have heard that there were some kits out there that would do this. Has anyone tried this yet?

I have 04accord Silver w/ black interior and would like to have back windows tinted & got estimated price of $150 for back 3windows(this is only for Standard, NOT Metallic) & was told that process will take 2-3hrs. Also what difference does Metallic tint does more than Standard one?
Could someone tell me time frames of how many hours does the window tinting take and please give me your experience w/ the shop name in Sacramento/Elk Grove area?
Thank you so much for your input.

    hondaonly -

I have a 2004 Accord Coupe silver/black and had my windows tinted yesterday. I always use a metallic type of tint. These tints reject 98% of UV rays and about 50-60% of light energy. I believe the metallics are better quality, tend to last longer, and their reflective properties are better. Some are more "metallic" looking, which I do not like but that is taste. A good tinter will educate you on all this. My cost was $160 for the 2 doors and rear, and it took about an hour.

    Tim,

Couple more questions for you on the CAI if you don't mind? Have you ever needed to change your CAI to the shortram setup? I only ask because K&N makes reference to the change if needed for inclement weather. The concern being ingestion of water through the intake and into the engine.

I live in Houston, so it rains here quite a bit. Is this something you've dealt with and is it something I should be concerned about? I don't plan on driving through deep water but, running through puddles and such, I won't be able to avoid.
  • steven5steven5 Member Posts: 17
I saw the FAQ section, but I don't understand what I'm supposed to do with the answer. I don't have a website of my own. However, I have the pictures I would like to post on the web within an MSN Group. Can you help me from there or tell me how to upload the pictures from my PC?
  • tlaurotlauro Member Posts: 504
I understand having been to Houston on many a rainy days. So long as you don't drive through high water that would submerge the front bumper/fender area on the drivers side, you'll be fine. I wouldn't recommend driving in water that's 12" or more deep regardless. That's about the depth you'd have to be in too.

Many of the CAI have a bypass valve and or the ability to convert to a SRI. I would go with a bypass valve for about $40 if you're concerned. I like the AEM intake.

I'm an '04 Accord EX-L owner who also lives in Elk Grove, and I'm also interested in tinting the windows. I would love to hear about any information that you've received. Best product? Best shop? Your experience(s)? Although we're in the middle of our baking summer, I'll probably not be getting my windows tinted for a couple more months (other financial priorities right now), so any information you might have learned about a reputable shop and suggested products would be great! Thanks (and enjoy your new Accord...I LOVE mine!) Maybe I'll see you cruising around in E.G.

    Tim,

Any particular reason you liked the AEM filter over others?

And (hopefully this works) here are a couple of pictures of my 2004 Accord LX-V6.

    Thanks as always.

I live in Houston. Had my whole car done for $160. Standard (legal) tint on the front windows [I believe 20% is how it is referred to], slightly darker tint on the rear side and back windows [30%]. Lifetime warranty on the tint. It starts peeling they do it over. As long as you have that kind of guarantee you shouldn't have any worries. See my post above with the links for pictures.

Actually, try these two links. This will give you a better look at the tint.

AEM typically costs less than Injen. I also liked the color choices available and the durable powder coated finishes. Even ones that are many years old look great still.

Overall, there's not much difference between the brands AEM and Injen outside price and personal preference. I sold my Injen as I just didn't care for the polished look. I like the powder coated finish better.
