jmellenb Irish24 has a very good point about using other ads as a bargaining tool. Check the library for the past few weeks car ads in your area, you can copy them to bring in when negotiating. Also check Honda dealership websites of surrounding states for prices. Some might give you more information on incentives and available financing rates. I did all this when I went to negotiate. The dealership I purchased my car from originally offered $20,810 and went down to 17,800. I pointed out that other dealers were advertising for 16,995 and 17,199 - why would I buy at 17,800? The sales manager countered that those prices did not include destination. The ads didn't state this so I still felt I could purchase at the lower price. We finally settled on $16,700 including destination. This website had told me that the dealers were able to offer 4.75% - the dealer I was negotiating with offered me 8.84% after telling me I had great credit. I pointed out that Edmunds.com said 4.75 was available and even AAA was offering 4.99 so the dealer gave me the loan at 4.75. Use those handy calculators to figure out your monthly fee before going to dealer. Punch in the price you want less the down payment and using 4.75% as rate - this way you will have an idea what your monthly payment for different amounts may be. Just research and you can probably purchase whichever model you want at or near your price. Good Luck!

Well folks. I am planning on buying a 2002 accord 4cyl auto value package. I called a few dealerships and they said that they do not have any dx's in stock but can order one. It seems to me that the value package is a better deal anyways. I live in atlanta and I think that I should be able to get one at or around 16,000 out the door. I am going to risk it and wait till november. I hope that when I am ready to buy, that they have 2002's still available.

Thanks for the info jimmyx2. Yes, I would take the ads in for a bargaining tool. My point is the prices in the Kansas City area are higher than the prices I see people paying on this board. As you'll see in post #450, $17990 is the lowest we have for a SE & $16990 is the lowest for a LX auto. I was also hoping Honda would come back with the 2.9% for 3 yrs, but I haven't seen it yet. Thanks to all for your info / opinions on this board.

I would try to convince them and use the ad. the ad. for LX 4AT is 15700. But I gues they would say that is only one model since every one in chicago has a small stock number on the ad. they are "genius" to bring you in! Then they said it is sold today and jerk up price about 700!!
  • tonyh5tonyh5 Member Posts: 3
    jmellenb,

$17,990 was at Jay Wolfe Honda, but I believe O'Neill would also match that amount. John Chezik, through an internet buying service, quoted full invoice without subtracting any of the $1,250. Everything still too high. Will see what's in tomorrow's paper.

Just a FYI for anyone who's interested in purchasing Accord SE in the Vegas area.

I bought a silver 02 Accord SE for 18,000+ tax+ doc fee+ misc fee from the internet manager at Honda West. His name is Hosein Zand, he made the purchasing experience smooth & unstressful. I highly recommend Hosein.

I realize I can get a better deal by going to Los Angles, but I didn't want to deal w the hassle.
  • raybearraybear Member Posts: 1,795
Yes, and how much was his doc fee? I've seen $600 in Vegas!
  • nvhumannvhuman Member Posts: 2
raybear, you're right- very high doc fee in Vegas- I had to pay 399, plus a "Theft Protection" fee of 189. Then there is that killer 7.25% sales tax, yuk!

I could have saved up to $900(my guess) buying the same car in LALA land, but I just didn't want to go thru dealing w sales people & the travel hassle. I'm happy w my purchase.

BTW, does any one know if there is any quality difference between Accords that has Japanese origined engine/transmission/assembly vs those assembled in US?? I told my wife Honda's product spec & QA/QC program should be identical worldwide, but she insisted that we get an Accord "made" in Japan (although 70% of parts are made in US & Canada). Anyone else share that feeling??

Yesterday I saw a message that recommended contacting Tracy McCrystal for good prices on Honda Care, but forgot to write down the phone number. I tried searching the Town Hall, but got no hits, and browsed through several topics again, but could not find the reference.

Could someone post the phone number here?

    Thanks

Dealer on the internet emailed me a price of $21795 but wanted $490 extra for spoiler. the problem with that dealer was 100miles away. Took his price to 4 dealers on long Island but told them that spoiler was in with that price. First 3 turned me down flat! 4th dealer stated that the price I got on the net did not include destination($460)and gave me a price of $22625 with spoiler. but made me call dealer that gave me the price of $21795 and ask if the destination was in his price (it wasn't!) so I made the deal with him for $22625 and pick the car up on monday. does this sound like a good deal?
  • benjaminhbenjaminh Member Posts: 6,593
    try www.Hondawarranty.com
I used it to look up a price of 695 for the 7/75 warranty on the Accord, and then the dealer matched it.

Has anyone purchased a car through carsdirect.com? If so, would appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks.
  • kellyimakellyima Member Posts: 1
Just got a v6 LX for 19,324 (which includes destination charge) plus 112 doc fee thru cars direct (this is in New Jersey). Got the 1250 dealer incentive off invoice, that all the offline dealers did not want to give me (or would even aknowledge existed). They were easily $500 cheaper than any other deal i could find. Service was great and quick and no hassle on pick up at the dealer. The rep there told me that if you come into showroom you bargain down from sticker, but going thru carsdirect, they just apply flat 3% on top of true dealer cost (why would anyone go to showroom except to testdrive and kick tires). (It sounded like carsdirect and dealer split the 3%) It was great. I know this sounds like a commercial, but it was the first time i bought a car where I didn't feel ripped off.

I posted earlier when I got the price quote but now I have the car. Picked it up yesterday. No document fees. No extras. Just tax and title. The dealer was Wilde Honda in Milwaukee. Internet sale. Very smooth. Worth the trip from Madison or Chicago. They even offered to pick me up if I couldn't get a ride there!

    Close to home Accord prices:
    EX-V6......$21.8k (200 under invoice after 1250)
    LX-V6......$19.6k (0 under invoice after 1250)
SE-I4......$18.0k (as low as 17775 if you deal well)
A personal contact told me they just want to move them out as fast as possible; 2002 Accords are still being built and they will be delivered in August. Now is the time to DEAL...
  • jmellenbjmellenb Member Posts: 35
Well I checked today's paper like I do every Saturday. The price on the S.E. went up $150! Now it's $18150 plus TTL. Fortunately, I can afford to wait. We've also had the LX for $16K, but that's for a manual transmission & I want an automatic.

I bought a Honda Accord last week. But when I went to pick up my car, I was told that the car has some minor dameges and scratches. The dealer said they will fix it, but I have to take this particular one because it is registered. Please give me some advice on this case. What should I do? Thanks in advance.

    Prices don't reflect tax/title costs.

does anybody know the right price? dealer wants $1200. went to hondawarranty.com got a price of $980 with a $60 rebate ($920 7YR 100)for EX VS LOADED. CAN I FIND IT ANY CHEAPER?
  • pegasus17pegasus17 Member Posts: 536
For psot 469 (Accord SE prices in Atlanta) - no way that an SE can be $16.3k The dead cost amount for the dealer is $17.4k Perhaps they are low-balling you on the SE and getting it back on your trade?

For post 470 (hondacare warranty) - save your money and just rely on the 3/36 new car warranty for now. You can always buy it later...
  • benjaminhbenjaminh Member Posts: 6,593
If the dealer won't beat the price of www.hondawarranty.com I think that's the end of the story. If you want a genuine Honda warranty, those are basically your choices. 920 for a 7 year 100,000 miles warranty is a pretty good deal, imo.

What is the dealer cost for a 4 Cylinder Accord EX Sedan Automatic, without leather? Is the formula, invoice-1250-holdback?

What is the best price anyone has found for an Accord EX 4 Sedan Auto, without leather? The best advertised price in the newspaper I have seen here in central NJ is $18,899 plus tax and tag.

Here in Louisville I saw a VP advertised for 14.5k. Another dealer is offering "4500 off of any Accord" if you bring the ad in with you.

Since I work at one of the internet services I can tell you prices vary widely around the country. There are areas where the dealers will not even share in the $1250 cash incentive on Accords and other places where they sell them with the money included, plus all the holdback and volume incentive if they qualify.

My wife traded our $ 500 95 Plymouth Neon with bad AC for a brand new 2002 Accord VP, and walked out the door owning $ 15K after license, sales tax, etc.. We love the car, and feel we it was the best value available on the market!
Trade was completed at Bob Montgomery Honda, Louisville, KY

does anybody know if you get the extended warranty from hondawarranty.com its the same as the one my dealer offered for $400 more? (HONDA CARE WARRANTY)
  • sting40121sting40121 Member Posts: 3
Grace HOnda here in the Bay Area offered me $14,753 for a 2002 Accord LX (plus tax, license, and fees)
and San Francisco Honda offered me a 2002 Accord VP for $15671 out the door price.
From these prices I think I would choose the LX because I can get it out the door for $16200 and there are alot more features on the LX compared with the VP.

Here's my situation: Got a great price on the V6 Ex Accord Sedan - $21,625. Also got 4.75% financing from dealer lined up. HOWEVER... I still have 4 months left to pay off on my current lease (a 2000 Nissan Altima) at $245/ month. I've plugged in all the numbers into all the calculators and still can't decide - is it worth it to get the Accord now, and eat the rest of my lease because it's SUCH a good deal, or should I wait, save up a bit more money, pay off the lease in Dec. as scheduled, and then put down a bigger downpayment on the 2003 Accord in Dec./ Jan? See, I feel that the money I'd spend on ending the lease could be used on the downpayment. We're not in absolute need of the accord just yet, so going without a car for a little while isn't that inconvenient. Help me decide please!!!

I just had a Portland area dealer quote $21,750. Prices in the Pac NW tend to run higher than other areas.
  • lienrenchiehlienrenchieh Member Posts: 8
    Raybear,
My best quote for EX V6 Sedan in Seattle area
    is 24500 so far.
Could you please tell me which Portland dealer and the phone number? Many thanks.
  • nekoukdgnekoukdg Member Posts: 13
Raybear- I'd say that's a very fair price, especially if things in the NW usually cost more. I've been haggling all week here (near Philly) and can't get below $21,625 (with a sunroof visor included). Your $21,750 is a great starting point.

Irish- I looked at a local dealer's site and they said "2.9% financing available on all new 2002 Accords" only to find out that, believe it or not, that wasn't true! Two separate dealers told me that what they do is, if you pay full price (or close to full, I'd imagine), they buy down the rate. Like paying points on a mortgage, basically. So if you haggle at all, they're probably not going to give you the lower rate. Just my 2 cents.

Now, got any thoughts about my other post? :)

That car was offered to one of my customers, and he hasn't decided to take it yet. If I tell you who has it, I would hurt my client's chance at that price.

You mean to tell me those greedy so-and-so's aren't even discounting the car at all? I'm sure you can get one a lot closer to invoice, there's a $1250 dealer incentive right now. Try hitting the internet and make an offer to the dealers. You can get email addresses off Honda's website. I've already told you what the car can be found for in Portland, try offering the same price to your local dealers, and don't just try Seattle, you can do better in the outlying counties.

I buy a Accord LX 4AT 16300 today at Chicago Highland Park. Just paid a little more than 18100-1250-600=16250 but they still get 250 quantity discount and 300 floor plan assistance fee. It is OK for me that I get the blue color and fresh smell 6 mile car.

I was quoted a price in the low $16,000s. I want ABS in the car as well. How much should that bring the car up to?

I just had real good luck at Seattle Honda, I had 2 price quotes , 1 from Tonkin's in Poertland Ore. & 1 from Sims up north in Burlington, I approacjed the Seattle Honda stakk with a price request, they accepted ir with no problems just got a 2002 accord lx w/ abs & alloy wheels silver for 18,500 plus tax & license. I'am Happy anyways
  • nekoukdgnekoukdg Member Posts: 13
Well... I did what you said, sent a bunch of emails around to a bunch of dealers (including Majestic). It gave me some peace of mind, if nothing else. Everyone wrote back saying $21,000 wasn't reachable, but $21,500 was. One dealer wrote back saying "When you decide to make a reasonable offer, give us a call." Ha ha.

So we went out with $21,500 as our target, and got $21,575 including a sunroof visor. Not a bad deal. Haven't suffered through the financing part yet, so we didn't take the car off the lot. Perhaps Tuesday. (Waiting for the proverbial check in the mail...) AND - the best part is - both me AND my wife are happy! Still sucks that we have to pay off the rest of the lease, but the tradeoff is that we got the color we wanted, and we got the current incentives. We decided it wasn't worth seeing what happens to the incentives when the 2003s come out. If we lose out, we doubt we'll have lost out on more than 500 bucks or so. And while I can use the 500 bucks, the time and effort saved, and peace of mind is worth something, too.

The OTD price will end up being around $22,275. DE is very tax-friendly, 2.75% of the purchase price (only to residents, though). So that's a good deal, i must say - including tax, title, and 4 yr. tags, it's less than the original dealer invoice!

Irish, bartalk - what do you have to say?
    I'm pretty pleased. :)

Just purchased a new (5 miles) 2002 Accord EX-V6 Sedan for $22,300 INCLUDING rear spoiler, fog lights, wood grain audio trim, and splash guards (over $1000 of dealer installed options.) Took advantage of the 4.75% 60 month financing and zero down.
