    Hi everyone,

It appears to me that most people are paying $3,000 to $4,000 under sticker. Is this correct? I am looking to buy a Accord EX or SE, 4 cylinder, automatic. Has anyone on the board purchased a vehicle in Connecticut and if yes where and amount paid? Has the new 2003 hit the dealers yet. Should I wait until they come out?

    Thanks

Was quoted $17915 by Rahal Honda in Central PA.
Inv on this car is 19227, with the 1250 dealer
incentive that drops to 17977 - so $50 below invoice. Dealer profit would be holdback (2% BASE
MSRP, $20,850) $417. Plus they may get the additional $250 from Honda from meeting dealer quota. But there was no push to buy the car yesterday vs next week in a new calendar month. As I see it, their profit (assuming car is fresh enough to earn holdback) is $367, maybe $617 based on meeting quota. Plus they include mats and wheel locks which soften their numbers a little bit. $17915 is $3400 below MSRP of $21,310. I can see this car being bought as low as $17,500 which is about breakeven for the dealer. But, there were 3 SE avail, and the dealer was VERY busy on Saturday afternoon. I can live with the dealer making $350, maybe $250 more, even though it is year end. And that's based on holdback - something I don't think the buyer normally gets dibs on anyway.

And, a website that appears to be reliable, indicates the $1250 mfgr to dealer extends through Sep 30.

The local Honda dealer is advertising $18,999. They appear to be holding most of the $1250 incentive. They may do better, but I don't plan to find out.

CarsDirect quote for this area is $19,026.

If I crunched the numbers incorrectly, let me know.

I am looking into buying a 1998 Honda Accord LX V6 with 15,900 miles. It has been stored during the winter and is immaculate. Is $16,500 to much?
This is through a private seller and my research has shown this is on the high end. I feel 16,000 would be more than fair. And are there any problems that I should be aware about the '98 version?
    What do you think?

Sorry for the late reply. Call Jhon at curry honda in chicopee and he'll work with you, really nice guy. There seems to be a lot of confusion as to the prices here cause people forget to mention what trim they are actually getting . If it's an EX, it could be an I4 or a V6 and there's a big price difference between the two. What i got was an EX I4 Coupe. The price may have been a bit more (i'm not good at math), but definitely not above 18K.

I think you can get a new Accord for that much. You will have a warranty and a new car, not one that is almost 5 years old. Also, some banks don't like to lend money on older cars, so that could hurt resale when the time comes.

Just got my Accord EX V6 for $21,025 + tax + lic here in southern CA. there are not many 2002 Accord left so the price will probably go up.

I bought my 93 Civic from Liberty brand new in 93. I went to two other dealers in CT but none who would meet their price. I was hoping to try and buy a Accord SE 2 door coupe. It seems that most people are getting the 02 Accord EX V6 for around 21,500 which is about 4,000 below sticker. A coworker of mine has a cousin who works for a dealer in NY and was quoted 21,500 for the V6. Based on that I was thinking that the Accord SE should be selling for around 17,500 which is less than 4,000 below sticker. If I can not get that price, I might just purchase another Civic. Based on Edmunds. I should be able to get a 02 Civic EX coupe for around 16,261 which I would add Alloy wheels.

I just traded my '96 Pontiac Grand AM for an Accord LX-V6 Sedan (automatic). It has ABS as standard along with side airbags and electronic everything inside. Final price with destination and handling, taxes, and tags 17,100. I'm happy with my car, but want to learn for future. Did I do okay or should I have done better?
  • raybearraybear Member Posts: 1,795
What was the selling price of the new car w/o the trade?
  • savanahsavanah Member Posts: 2
By the way, I was given $3600 for my Pontiac, which was clean.

i bought a 2002 accord new dx model with added value package for 15395.00 (Final price)and 4.25% financing for 60 months . it is automatic with a/c , no power windows or locks.it has a am fm cassette and cd player and floor mats. 4 cylinder motor. the factory sticker was just over 18000.00 to start with plus they wanted an additional 795.00 rust proofing and paint protection (dealer add on). they tell me the interest rates just dropped today from 4.75 to 4.25
  • car4flcar4fl Member Posts: 6
Does that include tax, tag, etc???
If it includes these at 15,395 then that
    is a super deal!
    Enjoy your new car!

I just came back from the Honda dealer (Coggin Honda in Jacksonville, FL) and turned down the following deal:

Trade in: My 97 Jeep Wrangler, auto, alloy wheels, oversized tires, sound bar, a/c, 61k miles. (Kelly blue book - Trade in value $7500). They offered me only $5,500.

For: 02 Accord EX, 4cyl, cloth seats - at $19,500.

From an earlier post I saw that Dealers in nerby Georgia are selling the same car for $18k or $18.5k.

I'm going to sell my Jeep for around 9k and try to buy an Accord by the end of the month. Keep your fingers crossed.

    Let me know your thoughts.

I just bought the SE 2002 with drive out total of $18,850 at Lanier Honda in Georgia.
    Price: $17,264
    Doc Fee: $499
    Tax: 6%
    Title: $18
    Lemon Law: 3$.

I think I got the good deal with no trade in. I just don't the Doc Fee with 499.
  • magicomagico Member Posts: 40
Did you get a 2 door or 4 door.
  • mazda6smazda6s Member Posts: 1,901
I think that's a new all time high! They should just be honest and call it dealer mark-up, which is actually what it is. Does anyone really believe that it costs $499 to do the paperwork?
  • gahondabuyer2gahondabuyer2 Member Posts: 1
    It is a 4 door.
Here is Doc fee in Atlanta:

    HennessyHonda: 199
    Gwinnett Place Honda: 399
    Curry Honda: 379
    Team Honda: 399
    Lanier Honda: 499.
    Mall of Georgia Toyota: 479
    Stone Mountain Toyota: 389

Justfor the damn paper work. I asked them why there is discrepancy in Doc fee. The answer I got from them is bigger dealer need to pay a lot for the salesmen. This is a crappy answer. I really don't know how many ways and unique can each dealer process the paperwork for the new or old car. It is another way the dealer get additional money from you beside the 4 square boxes.
  • crv16crv16 Member Posts: 205
As I recall, Autofair Honda in Manchester NH has NO document fees. They only charge something like $35 for temporary plates and title. Also, last time I bought a Honda in Stratham, NH (Honda Barn), they didn't charge doc fees either.

Charging more than $40 for document fees is an insult. They're all computerized now, so it costs the dealer next to nothing. It's nothing but a blatant attempt to try to screw you.

When you go to the supermarket, do they add on a $2.00 fee for the check out person's time? Does Best Buy charge $.50 for the register tape?
  • car4flcar4fl Member Posts: 6
I paid 499 for doc fees in Florida. The dealer would not come down on this fee. They will bargin on the price of the car but not on the doc fees. The answer they give you here is, if you can find a better deal somewhere else, then go there and buy it.
  • cattmancattman Member Posts: 31
I'm the guy who purchased a '02 EX V6 coupe in L.A. for $21,206... with absolutely no doc fee(or "advertising fee") at all... just tax, license... was quoted a lower price at another dealer, but they wanted a $499 ad fee, bringing the total over the amount I eventually paid... what a ripoff... the moral? Ask about these fees upfront, before you get to the finance guy...

Another interesting thing... the Silver coupe I got had a manufacture date of 7/02... I took delivery on Labor Day, so this must have been one of the last '02's off the line!
  • car4flcar4fl Member Posts: 6
Congratulations on your new Accord! You made some good points about the doc fees. One other thing the dealers told me that if they waived the doc fee for me then they would have some angry past customers when word got out that they didn't charge the doc fee to everyone. They can move the numbers around on the price of the car. The dealers seem to find out what the others are charging and stick together on the doc fees in this area. I agree it is better to ask upfront. My Accord that I purchased in August was manufactured 6/02. I was surprised they didn't try to sell me a car that was sitting on the lot longer too.

How do you determine the manufacture date of your vehicle? I just purchased an '02 Accord and have been trying to determine when it was manufactured but have not seen it on any of my paperwork.

Look on the sticker in your door jamb, it will say month & year of production.

I would really like to have put this question in the Finance and Warranty area but there is not much interaction over there. My question is this: Is extended warranty worth going for on an Accord EX V6 coupe. The dealer is asking for about 1100$ for a 7yr/100k mile Warranty. Suggestions please..,

Can anyone tell me what they paid when ordering a 2003 4 cyl. auto LX? Any other 2003 paid prices would be great also. Thanks!
  • ajaymeajayme Member Posts: 74
You check the Temple of VTec web site. I've heard that the price is negotiable and some dealers will even sell one over the web. I've seen prices around $900 for that policy. You might also do a Google search on Honda Warranties. Good luck

Last month, I paid $910 for my new HondaCare Warranty, purchased online at:

    www.hondawarranty.com

It is the same Honda Warranty sold for higher prices at dealerships.

I can't decide bet a v4 and a v6..heard the tyranny on the v6 is faulty like the TL. Anyway, I'd appreciate any thoughts on how much I should negotiate around. Our dealer has a lot of inventory...espcially for manuals.

Just bought a 2003 sedan, silver with black leather, automatic.

Price including all but taxes...$22,660. Good price?

    In Boulder, Colorado!
  • raybearraybear Member Posts: 1,795
Remember there's a $1250 dealer incentive on the Accord, use that to your advantage. The kind of deal you can get depends on where you are looking. I know dealers who've gone well below the invoice less the $1250 and others who won't give that up.
  • ravynravyn Member Posts: 101
i bought it on 8.30.02, and it was made in 8.02... so i really DID get one of the last ones off the line.
i ended up with the price i wrote a few posts back, and talked the trade-in up to $13.5 with them switching my intake out for me. i know i could have gotten at least a grand more had i sold it myself, but it saved me the hassle of advertising, showing the car AND getting under the car and switching the intake back to stock.

Anyone paying below MSRP? Or is that a leading question....please post your purchase experiences below. Thanks.
  • lfikelfike Member Posts: 38
Last weekend I chk'd out all of the Hondas....I couldn't believe how many people were there to drive and buy! I made my decision that day to purchase an Accord. I really think that they may end up being just like the Odyssee, Pilot and CRV ...in that they may just stay at MSRP for some time. Think what you may....but Honda has another winner here....just drive it...not around the block either ...take it out and chances are you'll buy it. Should you be considering a Camry....sit in the back seat of both before you buy....I'm 6' 4" and I had to look at my gut to fit....just not enough head room and ...no....I'm not overweight....(well maybe a tad ;')
Also....when I returned to the dealer...I honestly couldn't recall the auto shifting....!
It really is much smoother than before and the handling was great...well..gotta run....hope this helps in your decision....
ps.....don't forget to wear your seat belt!

Got mine for $700 over invoice last Wednesday. Dealer in DuBois, PA. (Murray Honda (814) 371-5502, Ask for Matt,if you're not too far away.) However, a deal like this is pretty rare at this point I think.

Silver EX V6. Leased for $302 a month with $400 cap cost reduction. Not too shabby for a 26k car!!!

    Hi, everybody.
I'm planning to buy a '03 Accord. I'm living in Champaign, Illinois. Yesterday I visited a dealership in Savoy, very near to my area. The car looks good. I expected to get some discount even though it is a brand new one. However, the dealer told me that he could not give me any amount discount below the MSRP. I just got out. Does anyone who bought a '03 Accord in Illinois? I would appreciate if you share the story with me.
    Thanks.

Is that 400 down with no trade? How long is the lease for? Sounds like you should be arrested for stealing that car! LOL
  • bkm119bkm119 Member Posts: 16
$400 down, no trade; 42 months. (Residual only drops 2% from 36 to 42 mos; saves $25 - 30/mo.) Monthly payment even includes Pennsylvania's 9%lease tax.

I got one hell of a deal, and only two days after it came out!

Up to 156 miles now, and I think its a great car. Unfortunately, it's my wife's daily driver. I have to drive our '01 Accord EX V6 Coupe, but I steal her car every chance I get.

Just came back from a dealership, and test drove the EX-L I4. The acceleration may not be as "breathtaking" as the V6, but it's definately fast enough for me.

    Now for the offer:
$1995 out of pocket (tax, 1st pay.,bank fee, mv fees)
    $315 monthly payment (39 month/12k miles)
Dealer "Throw-ins": Extend Warranty for 3 months (39 total months), Moon Roof Wind Deflector, 2 free services/oil changes, 4 free car washes

This is one of the better offers I've found here in New York so far. I'm seeing another dealer tommorow who promised similar numbers, but for 36 months (no "throw-ins" yet).

Any other lease deals out there? Let me know.
  • bcab17bcab17 Member Posts: 4
The last local Honda dealership got back to me today with their 39 month/12k mile lease offer:
    EX-L 4-Cyl. Auto. Trans. @ $287/mo. + $2000 o.o.p.

    I was all set for the I4 when he hit me with a deal for a V6 (EX-L) @ $312/mo. + $2000 o.o.p.

The I4 is all I need (for the way I drive), but is $25/mo. too small a difference to pass up the V6?

Just wondering if any Canadians here have bought an '02 Accord in the last week or two? Walked into local dealer today and made an offer on a 2002 EX V6 (they had a couple). He told me MSRP was Cdn $31.1 (which I already knew) and his asking price started at $30.5k I made an initial offer of $27k and he told me it was too low for him to even "take it to his manager". Didn't even make a counter-offer or try to negotiate, just let me walk out. All this when a 2003 Accord was sitting outside for preview drives by select customers (on sale end of this month).

I had thought $27k would be a decent starting point cause I'ld seen a 2002 demo vehicle with 10,500 kms listed at $27k at another dealer. I didn't expect to have to negotiate down from only $600 off of MSRP. Anyone have similar experiances or comments?

Hey wkpark. I live in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. I was able to negotiate a selling price of $24,500 for a 2003 EX V6 after visiting many dealerships. Not sure which model you were looking for but I highly recommend the EX V6 if it fits your budget. I test drove 2003 Altima, Maxima, and Camry. In my opinion, the Accord was the best.

The car is extremely hot right now and deals are very hard to find. One dealer even went so far as begin the negotiation $1k above MSRP (+$27,000). Needless to say that I walked right out. In fact, most dealers were letting you walk out without stopping. However, I found out that they will let you walk out but expect a call from them in a couple of days to talk about a deal. Most were in the $25k - $26k range. Looking at other discussion boards, it appears that invoice is in the neighborhood of $23,500.

Hope this helps. Good luck in your search.

Just leased a 2003 V6 Accord for $315 a month including tax for 42 months...15k per year...The deal was about 700 over dealer cost. I was thrilled with it...Most dealers want MSRP or more...
