1004 Difference
This is taken from Kelly Blue Book. Both cars with 60000miles the same model and everything else is the same. The difference is about $1000 after 4 years. You could not make this type of comparison is it was a model year change, however, it was little chage from the 2004 and 2005.
___Looking at it from a used car to slightly older used car w/ the same amount of miles perspective, the newer model usually does not pay for itself at trade-in/sale time according to the following.
KBB - Private Party:
2003 Accord EX V6 w/ Auto and NAVI - Good condition and 35,000 miles: $18,130
2004 Accord EX V6 w/ Auto and NAVI - Good condition and 35,000 miles: $19,055
___Do your own analysis for an 00 vs. 01 or 01 vs. 02 etc. on what the new 04 or new 05 decision might be worth more then just 1 year down the line. The delta will probably decrease over time making the 1 yr. older Accord an even better deal as time goes by. I used higher mileage for both Accords (35,000) to simulate more then just a 1 year out automobile. YMM definitely Vary however.

In addition, the 2005s are building inventory at dealers and there should be plenty of choices for models and colors.
The 2005 Accord LX and DX are MUCH better cars for 2005 because they have standard side curtain airbags which weren't available last year on those models. The '05s also have illuminated steering wheel controls.
Unless you can get an '04 for at least $2000 less than a 2005, you're better off buying the newer one in my opinion......Richard
Thanks

Thanks as always!
I went for $20,250 + TTL and $102 in associated fees. Pohanka in Marlow Heights, MD (DC area). Very pleasant buying experience. Over $500 under my other bids. I shopped in the MD/DC/VA/PA area.
pad, I recommend this car. As of 9/24 there was a sapphire blue model at Northwest in Owings Mills, MD and a silver at O'Donnell in Ellicott City. Where are you looking?
danchoi, did you also shop DC/Baltimore area? I was told I got one of the last manual models in the mid-Atlantic (probably an exaggeration, but they are scarce).
I am also wondering what the dashboard looks like in the graphite EX: metal-like or wood-like plastic? Thanks a lot!
20000 is too high.
There is 1000 dealer cash.
Tell your dealer he must go lower (into holdback) if he wants your business and that you will buy before the end of the month (sept).
The dealers bottom line cost on that car is about 700 less
Even if you go to 19,500 + TTL i'd say thats fair, but draw the line there, unless you really want the car.
Good luck
I paid $18600 for an 05 LX 4dr AT, on sunday.

You were wise to skip the mad rush to find a nominally discounted 2004 LX--especially because the 2005 LX has side curtain airbags standard.
Curtain airbags were not available at all on LXs in 2004, and they are a safety feature well worth having. Enjoy! ......Richard
___When or if I do ever do decide to pick up an Accord EX-L w/ or w/out NAVI, how are PZEV’s differentiated in NY, VT, ME, and MA? Are all Accord’s sold in those states PZEV’s or is it a special order? In California, I believe there is a $135.00 up charge (well worth it for the extended emissions warranty and PZEV emissions imho) but I don’t know how they are sold in the other green states listed above.
___With that, since I cannot purchase a PZEV here in Illinois, I would like to purchase one (Accord I4 Sedan w/ Auto - EX-L w/ NAVI in PZEV format) from a large dealership in NY when the time comes as it is the closest state to my locale. Is there any large Honda dealerships in Western NY state that are known to discount like the larger dealerships here in the Chicago area? 04’s for Invoice or less were advertised in the Chicago Tribune from Grandhonda.com for literally weeks. There has to be a similar large dealership in the NY area I could pick one up for the same at some future point in time. My wife has always wanted to visit Maine and Vermont so maybe I could make a rail trip with her and drive a PZEV home from either of those 2 sates as another thought?
___Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

Out of curiosity, what is the extended emissions warranty for PZEV?
The trees in northern Vermont are only starting to turn color now. Someone local may have a better prediction, but I'd imagine October 20 or so would be glorious. And a little hard to find a place to stay, at least on a weekend. I'd also imagine there aren't many high-volume dealerships in VT, NH or ME, so you might not get the best available price there. A train to NYC might be a better alternative.
But you can check for yourself. Type in the zip codes for Brattleboro and Portland at hondacars.com and call the dealers to negotiate a price. Compare with the dealers in Greenwich (CT) and New Rochelle (NY), then decide.
2 door, 4 cylinder, automatic. 2005 EX-L, no nav, no add-ons of any kind. Just trying to find out the prices that people have paid for such a vehicle in the NJ area.
alternately, if dropping fog lights into the car, what's a good price to expect for those?
What about dealer fees?
Edmunds doesn't have invoice price for 05 yet, anyone know what's the invoice price for 05 LX? Thanks.
Hope this helps. Good luck!
Thanks in advance!
Also vehix has the prices for 05 Honda. They maybe 1 to 1.5 % lower than the invoice price since honda raised 05 prices by 1.5%
for an 04 LX Auto in NJ.
___Thank you for the PZEV information. So you can pick up a PZEV form any NY state dealership and it is only a $135 up charge as well then.
___The warranty for emissions HW on a PZEV goes out 15 years/150,000 miles. From O2 sensors all the way to replacement of the dual CATS are covered and if you have ever had to have a CAT replaced, the $135.00 is nothing by comparison besides the fact you have a cleaner emitting automobile then even a Hybrid when total lifecycle emissions are considered and depending on what kind of mileage you receive.

Anybody can recommend some dealer?

my '04 LX Sedan/Auto (NO side airbag) w/ 7yr warranty for 19.5K (Drive-Out)
2004 Honda Accord LX 4dr Sedan (2.4L 4cyl 5A) (NO side airbag)
- 7 yr/100K honda care warranty (zero-dollar deductible)
- TInted window
which I bought last night (9/30) @ David McDavid in Houston
First of all, I would like to thank everybody who had contributed many purchasing experience in this forum. In return I like to do the same thing and hope people can be benefit from mine as well.
#################################################THere is my story, this is my second honda I will purchase in my life and I think I could claim I have a bit expeirence of how to deal with the hungry dealers. (sorry, I just speaking from the customer point of view - always try to be a educated customer everyday) I have started doing the pricing research last week since I was told there is a 1K discount going on in the dealership.
#################################################[When you are ready]
1) Start the buying process, emailing all the local dealers saying that you are looking. (I sent mine out this tuesday)
2) Replying all the internet department of the local dealers and telling them EXACTLY what car and what other option I want (no more and no less) and how much you are offering to them (again the Drive-Out Price)
((17K-1K) + TTL) + warranty + tint .. the total will be around 20K
In my case, I learnt the following from my reasearch
- 2004 Honda Accord LX 4dr Sedan (2.4L 4cyl 5A) (NO side airbag)
- 1K discount
avilable (off the invoice)
- the warranty is around 900-1100
- window tint costs around 200
the total will be around 20K
David Mcdonald @ Houston replied me yesterday afternoon and told me they can do 19995 (Drive-out price). I told him I am ready to buy it and get my car ready for me. IN my mind, I know I can get a cuple hunderd off while
I start the face-face neigatoring process.
#################################################[Right before showing up the dealership]
Before I go to the dealer, I am telling myself and what my target bottom price is (19.5 is my case) and the "backup" plan (I went to Gillman a day before and the best price they can do is around 20K)
Right after I arived, I showed him my checkbook and tell him I am a servous buyer who is ready for the cheapest deal he can offer. After checking the inventory, he showed me what the car availble and I have picked the color (dont really care) and its omemter (very important. mine only has 7). I have noticed they have a lots in stock compared to other local dealerships. I know that I might get a bigger discount (simple supply-demand theory)
In the 1st round, I gave him 19.3K (just throwing him a ridicious number :P (which says the sale-price is basically less than 17) and he walked back and talked to his manager and counter-offer me 19.5).. at that monent, I started smiling in head and I knew that the "negotiable range" is down to >100.
IN the 2nd round, I told him I will do 19.5 if they can throw-in mud guard (its invoice around 100) and I am ready to write him a check. he again went back to talk to his manager and he said he can;t do it. then we started BS-ing for next 10 minutes (that is the standard standoff period of negotiation), all the sudden, I offered him I will take it if the final final DOP 19.4K OR [19.5K w/ 1st yr oil change free. (3 coupons around 100)].
Finally, his boss came out and seal the deal with the 2nd option. I know they will take that because those are in non-itemizable in the actual purchase order (std. option and warranty do). so as the tinted window.
The rest is just the paper works, one thing I would like to mention is my actual purchase order shows only 2 items (sale price of the car showns (17020) + dest. charge+ TTL ) & warranty (995). (the tint and the oil-change coupons just the off-the-record deals)
#################################################[my Afterthought and Tips]
1) Research!!Research!!Reasearch!! (use this forum/list and get the price and general market information....what option you need !?.. what is the bottom price you will 'pull-the-trigger'?!)
2) buy it toward the end of the month(/quarter)
(I am the last customer to walk away the dealership this Qtr :P)
3) show them that you are a severious buyer ( I was liternally carrying my checkbook and told the dealer I amready to write a check if "the price is right")
4) always negotiate with Drive-out PRICE OR OUT-THE-DOOR price !!!!!!!
(VERY IMPORTANT) always negotiate the Drive-out price (it is waste of time to get a good sale-price for the car and realize the option is expensive later on; I got scammed by the Other dealership (in Gillman) finance dude who gave me a 1.4K for the warrarnty day before
#################################################
Again Thanks to Edmunds and all involved in this list.
