I realized that some dealers aren't quite up on all of their latest Accord lines. One dealer argued with me that each car only came with one interior, that there weren't any choices (such as silver with grey interior OR black interior, etc.) They also don't realize that the V6 models have a fully lined trunk (meaning lining under the trunk lid) while the 4's don't.
Happy shopping.
Congratulations on your purchase. You have the car I want to buy for my son and you got it at the right price.
I went to a local dealer on Saturday and they wouldn't budge below invoice, a bit over $20,200. The best Internet quote I have thus far is $19,400, including destination. You did better!
1) Where/who was the dealership. Anywhere around NYC?
2) The dealer told me they were only getting holdbacks on the '06 Accord, no other incentives, so they couldn't go below invoice.
3) They said their new policy is to service only cars bought at the dealership, clearly stating that if I bought the car elsewhere I would not be able to use their service department. Isn't this a violation of their agrrement with American Honda? Don't they have to service any Honda purchased anywhere? Why would they care since Service is a separate profit center?
Thanks for your help!
Bob
to make matters worse, they offered me 100 dollars for my trade in. My mom and I laughed all the way home, in my 100 dollar piece o crap.
I'll probably buy a camry.
Well, would you have bought if they met your $18k price but still only gave you $100 for your car? Because, honestly, you aren't going to get any more real money from a dealer for that trade in. Sell it yourself, you'll do much better. Any dealer that shows more for your trade on paper is just taking the hit elsewhere.

You can have the VP for $18,000, but we'll only give you $2000 for your $4000 car. Or, we'll give you Blue Book Value for it, but your car will be $19,500.
Negotiate each seperately, or sell it yourself. At that age of the car, you SHOULD sell it yourself, and make and extra $1500 or so over a dealer (reasonable, not the clown that offered $100)price.
The main point is with holdback and whatnot, it was a decent price. 18 out the door for a car invoiced at 17,132. Especially considering that it was not only the end of the month but the end of the quarter.
Oh well, more money for me to roll around in naked.
Everything I've ever heard would make that policy very hard to believe.
I didn't do much better than you. Your best internet quote ($19,400) is exactly what I paid, except my deal included a trunk tray with a $100 retail value.
I would feel good about your $19,400 internet quote. However, keep in mind that the dealer will likely try and add various costs/fees once you get to the dealership.
1) I purchased my vehicle at Superior Honda in Cincinnati, OH.
2) There are no additional incentives, but they can definitely sell the car below invoice. Holdback alone on this car is about $700. Plus, the dealer gets $$ from doc fees, accessories on the car, financing, kickbacks for meeting sales targets, ect.
3) The dealer is lying to you so you don't go somewhere else and get a better price. It's a scare tactic. Call American Honda, I'm sure they would tell you something very different than the dealer's BS.
One last point...buy at the end of the month, dealers will be begging you to buy from them. I dealt with several via email, but none were willing to match the price from Superior. However, by 3/30, I had three separate dealers come back and match the price I ultimately paid.
Frustration is starting to settle in. Turns out that in addition to the $19,429 they want to charge $280 for dmv (they are in nj and i am in ny) and another $300 documentation fee. Salesman claimed the doc fee was non-negotiable and that everybody paid the same amount. I don't believe it.
When you add up the fees their price is not much different than the competition.
I might end up going to Cincinnati...unless a local dealer makes the right moves.
And yes, I just can't believe that a service department would turn away business. And I also don't believe that the dealer isn't getting more incentives than the holdback on '06 Accords.
Thanks!
Bob
24803 - (incl destination)
1490 - (tax - 6% in FL)
200 - (tag, title, registration & fees)
Total Price - $26,500 (approx)
This price also includes, floor mats, pinstripe, wheel locks, door edge guards & one free oil change.
Thank you for your comments.
The DMV and Doc fees are definitely a ripoff.
Like you, I reside in a different state than where I bought the car. The dealer only charged me $15.50 for registration and temp Ohio tags. I will pay my home state $26 for permenant tags + sales tax within 30 days.
If I were you, I would ask for price quotes from 4-5 dealers in your area via the Internet. Take the lowest offer, email it to the other dealers you contacted, and ask if they can beat it. Then wait until the end of the month.
Around the 27th-28th of April, visit the most convenient dealer in person. Try and speak directly to the General Manager, and ask if he will beat your best offer. If he won't, go to the next dealer in person and repeat this step.
This is how I purchased my car and it worked great. I found that online negotiating will only get you so far. Internet Managers are not willing to give you rock bottom prices via email. However, if you show up in person and present yourself as a legitimate buyer, it will be hard for them to let you walk out.
Civic LX Coupe bought March 1st 2006, got a good deal, GREAT salesperson to deal with, service department has been GREAT with our first purchase 2000 Civic, think you must be the acception rather than the rule. Couldn't be a happier customer.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm getting a price of 19,098 before tax and tags. Delivery and other fees are included.
How does that sound to everyone?
Here's the breakdown.
06 LX 4 door silve with automatic.
18453 car
599 destination (they're calling it dealer fee and adding 50 bucks)
40 tag agency fee
6.50 battery/tire
19098.50
+ tax and $225 for new tags. ">
Edmunds shows invoice to be 19298 with destination.
It was the first 6-speed manual sedan the dealership had seen. I had been waiting to test drive one for a couple of months, but no dealer within 120 miles ever had one in.
The dealer was playing hard-to-get on the price, saying that the manual was "rare", but when I informed them I could get exactly the car I wanted through an internet buying service for a lot less than what they were talking about, they suddenly became a lot more reasonable. I could have saved an extra $150 by going through the online service, but I really wanted to keep my money local.
Internet pricing currently puts this car at just a hair under $25K. At this price, it's close to five grand cheaper than a comparable Camry, which offers no manual at any price, and about eight grand less than the very mechanically similar Acura TL.
I want an Silver EX V6 auto w/ black leather (non-Nav). I want all weather floor mats, trunk tray, and mud guards.
When I send my e-mail to dealerships, I will tell them I want the price to include all fees including destination, doc fee, etc. The price should include every cost except TTL. I also plan to tell them that I expect the price to be below $24,500.
Is this $24,500 a good target to give the dealers, or do you think it is a little too low including the couple accessories I want?
IS your VP AT or MT?
Did your out the door price include TTL?
Thanks.
I am not bitter or jealous. Oh wait, yes I am.
Good deal... enjoy your car.
It can't hurt to try but be prepared for them to look at you like you have three eyes when you make the offer.
One thing I learned never let them know that you are looking for only a particular color....that gives you more room to bargain.
invoice+dest = 18,934
What do you think?
I decided to buy Accord since Civic is too expensive (only less than $2,000 difference with Accord(OTD:18,750).
($19300+taxes and fees)
Dlr was quoting 18800+taxes,fees for LX
So you shd be able to do a little better ?
Thanks
I got an 06 Accord, EX-L W/Nav. They were asking 32,800 (too much for it). I told them that my esisting 04 Accord Ex-L w/Nav is basically the same as the 06 except the console and body is a little different so why should i change? Plus they wanted me to pay around $495 a month. I told them that i was only paying $400 a month for my 04 and i needed to keep it in that range. Plus I wanted a DVD Ent in the rear for my son. they talked a little bit and came back with the car being $30,000 trade in for my car at $20,000 (I owed 14,800 on it) $1,500 out of pocket for me, they threw in the DVD ent and payment of $425 a month. After everything i financed $24,000. I am thinking maybe i didnt get a good deal.
NEVER get into monthly payments until the very end of the process. Dealers will try to get you to negotiate around the monthly payment you want, which works out for them because it gives them many more opportunities to play around and keep profit.
Sounds to me you probably didn't get a particulary good deal, but...I'll defer to others.
