Thank you for that advice, my experience has been that I am directed to the internet sales manager and have discovered as you mentioned that any deal must be approved by the sales manager. My experience is that dealerships don't like to send customers directly to the sales manager, should I be more persistent in wanting to speak directly with them?
  • dwilliamdwilliam Member Posts: 128
It depends upon the size of dealership. It is fine to work with the Internet Sales Manager and let them get the deal "Approved" The advice I offer is geared to present yourself in the best positive light as a serious and motivated BUYER. any dealership is going to sell about 20% of the people who inquire with them whether via internet or in person. Therefore 80% of the people a given salesperson, internet manager, or Sales Manager talks to will either buy another Make, buy from a competitor, or decide to buy in the future and delay their purchase. Imagine 80% of the people you talk to every single day telling you "NO!"

It is a sad fact that a lot of sales people have varying degrees of negativity attached to the very people they must strive to please. (I am expounding on the topic... can you tell?) Not really... Let them know you are the serious buyer that you are. Ask for the internet manager or sales manager and not the "fleet" Manager and you have already taken the proper step to being YOU! (it's who you want to be anyway)

As a General Sales Manager I take every step to being involved in the process and never decline to speak with a client unless I cannot due to circumstances beyond my control (i.e. talking with 4 or 5 other clients!) And I instruct my staff to always make my direct number as well as cell number available if I cannot speak with the client at that moment.

Gee... I guess I should answer your question LOL

Yes you should be more persistent!

It's posts like this that make this site brilliant. I had read so often to ask for the "Fleet manager" that when I'd see someone say they talked to the 'sales manager' I'd shake my head and think "why don't they ask for the Fleet Manager!?!?"

Although I have gotten one good quote, I am about to begin my calls in earnest for a budget breaking EX-L (not really, but I'm cheap) and I absolutely would have asked for the Fleet manager every single time. Thanks, DWilliam, for the heads up!

    Here is my best offer...

    2006 Honda Accord 6V EX w/ NAV

    25,959 + TTL + Processing + Freight = $27,773 OTD

What do you guys think? :confuse:
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,754
what is "processing"? Is that like a doc fee? And, if so, how much is it?
Is freight as in destination? If so, then it looks like you are at $426 below invoice. With the dealer incentive (is it still $750 on sedans?), I think you might be able to do better.

    thanks for the reply...

    processing = doc fee = $289.00
    fright = destination = $550.00

What do you think would be a "good deal"?
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,754
Well, personally, I'm not terribly tough to please. Invoice minus incentive is good. But I'd start lower so we could hopefully end up there.

SO, for that car, I'd start them at $25,685 (including destination, or $25,135 plus destination, whichever way floats yer boat) and hope to end up no more than $26,185 (which, again, is invoice plus destination minus the $750 factory incentive).

Just picked ours up last night. Black EX V6 AT w/Navi. $25,399 + $198 doc fee + TTL. This from Clair Honda in Boston. Started with internet requests from 5 or 6 area dealers, they were the best price, and negotiated a bit more once I went in the showroom. They threw in wheel locks. I didn't press for anything more. Felt it was a fair deal and will surely love the car (if my wife lets me drive it once in a while).
  • kevingeekevingee Member Posts: 10
Just noticing that people have this doc fee. Is that for registering the car or something? Should I pay it or not? How much is reasonable if I am to pay it?
  • alamocityalamocity Member Posts: 680
Again, thanks for your posts, they have provided some insightful views on the buying process. Not sure where our local dealerships rank compared to the Dallas and Houston markets but from what I've seen seem to lag behind both considerably as I haven't seen anywhere near some of the prices I've seen posted by others.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,754
its just added profit for the dealer. they say its to pay for the actual paperwork, which is silly. I typically don't argue it, though, if I feel I've gotten a good deal on the car itself.

I've seen quotes on fees vary from as low as $50 up to $500.

I believe here in NJ, a hair under $200 is the norm.

I just leased a 2006 Accord EX AT for 0 down 225/mo. They even made my first payment which includes registration, title, etc. fees. I think that's an excellent deal...what do you guys think? Anybody else leased this car? What kinda deal did you get?
  • caedward2caedward2 Member Posts: 45
    What part of the country?

    Sounds like an incredible deal.
  • austinaccord1austinaccord1 Member Posts: 6
Southern California...$225+tax for 36 months. 12K miles/year. It's 4 cylinder. I've called other dealers to check if they would give similar deals but they don't believe me.
  • caedward2caedward2 Member Posts: 45
Can you provide the money factor and cap costs?

I can't get anything near that here in Texas.

Wonder if they would ship to Texas?
  • austinaccord1austinaccord1 Member Posts: 6
I have the paperwork at home so I don't know off the top of my head but the money factor was something like .0089 or .00089. What do you mean by cap costs?

  • ravanipravanip Member Posts: 25
I am in MD and Tax is 5%
Just plain Accord EX-L the lowest I am getting is $23200
    How is it???
    thanks
  • dwilliamdwilliam Member Posts: 128
Doc fee is capped in Texas at $50.00 The fee is assessed because almost everything in a Dealership is FedExed. Also the small costs of running to the title office/auction offices/supply runs/etc.

The money is usually spent although they may only spend $14.00 on your deal and $90.00 on someone elses!

anything over that is profit in my book. We probably make a little bit of profit annually, but it ain't much!

Can anyone give me an idea of what would be a great price for a EX-V6 Automatic in the NJ/PA region at this time of year (i.e. before the new models come out)?

    Thanks!

If you subtract the tax, it looks like you got the car for about 1000 under invoice or 22,000. Edmunds reflects invoice for an EX auto 4 cylinder is around 23000 which includes transportation.I wish everyone would leave the taxes out of the deal on this board since they vary greatly from state to state :surprise: . But if you got that car for 22,000 minus taxes that's a good deal.

Just finalized deal on 06 4 door accord ex with cloth seats in nj. I have been looking around and got a price
for 21,700 out the door (Sales tax 6% until saturday).
Think this is good right ?
  • alamocityalamocity Member Posts: 680
Not sure if this post is appropriate to ask of you but since you are a General Sales Manager in Texas I wanted to get your opinion of some of the prices that are posted here, are these prices realistic in the Houston/San Antonio area? Example: Accord LX SE model with automatic transmission for $18,300.
  • dwilliamdwilliam Member Posts: 128
LOL not at work and would need to look at the numbers. Will get back to you tomorrow. On the surface the number "looks" a little low. Not too low... but a little.

It ends up that the dealer mis-quoted our price. We just purchased an 2006 Accord Ex-L (Leather) Sedan - 4-cylinder for 23,380.46 including tax and fess (out the door price) We just got it yesterday. We are from Michigan but a dealer in Ohio beat our local price by alot. They don't have the dealer incentive listed in the right up, on Autoweb.com this car's MRSP is 26,950 and it says dealer invoice price is 24253. Our break down is as follows, price of vehicle $21,766 + Documentary fee of $250 + Sales tax of $1320.96 + Misc fees such as tage and title of $43.50 for Out the door price of $23,380.46 - Hopefully this helps
  • alamocityalamocity Member Posts: 680
I would appreciate any information, have looked at a couple of different models of the Accord (VP,LX) as well as the CRV and the prices here are at best invoice price and have wondered whether the local dealers are in line with other nearby markets.

Did you get NAV system also??
    It is Automatic or Manual?
  • ravanipravanip Member Posts: 25
Ok.. I did get all the numbers and if I remove the TAX and Title...
I am getting the Car for $21877..
It is an EX-L with no additional Options..
    4 Cyl. Auto

    Hey ravanip,

What dealership are you buying your car from? I'm about to buy an EX-L also and I live in the Maryland area. Sounds like your getting a good price to me.

    Thanks,
    Robert
  • 1jackal11jackal1 Member Posts: 6
From what I found in our area is that getting a price just across our state line they beat our local dealers best price by $1300 - well worth a four hour round trip drive.
  • darballman1darballman1 Member Posts: 55
Anonymous, I was wondering why Honda gives sedans a $750. incentive vs a $1000. to the dealers for the sale of coupes ? Less sales of coupes in relationship to the supply of coupes ?

Also, have you hear any rumours re: any changes (minor or major) to the Accord for 07 ?
  • ambhooambhoo Member Posts: 11
    Hi,

Which dealer in Michigan did you purchase? let me know.

    Thanks. :)

Grand Honda in Chicago is adverstising EX-L 5A for $21,367 in the Sunday Chicago Tribune. Lowest prices I've seen in the Midwest. They have a web site....
  • hgbeehgbee Member Posts: 38
I don't think Grand Honda with good reputation. Check the dealer review. A lot people have bad experience. They charge extra $250 for internet purchase from a pilot buyer.
  • hgbeehgbee Member Posts: 38
Hi anyone try Reliance Honda in Houston area? They seem to be very fair on the deal. Anyone got experience to buy Accord from them?
    thx
  • hostnesshostness Member Posts: 22
Anyone know of good quotes received from dealers in Southern California for a Accord SE Sedan 4dr-i4? Or also, names of some good, reputable dealers (no BS sort of people) that you've had good experiences in the past?

The best I got is around $18,900 and that's warm at best for me.

I'd really appreciate it. I'm in the LA area so the drive to most dealers wouldn't be that bad.

(I've done a lot of reading on this thread and couldn't find any info on so cal dealers for this car.)

Your best bet in So. CA is:

    1. Rock Honda

    2. Hardin Honda (Anaheim)

    3. Honda World, Westminister

These three are always pretty close to each other in price, with Rock Honda leading the way.
  • dwilliamdwilliam Member Posts: 128
The 4 door Accord is extremely popular and the 2 door not so much. (anytime you have a larger coupe there is less demand) A larger incentive helps to get lower on the pricing. (kinda obvious ;) )

The supply of 2dr's are down now though, so expect to see the negotiated prices creep up a little.

Only changes expected so far are color changes. We may get more info later. (Or we have it and I haven't read it :P )

Robert....I have purchased THREE Accords in 8 months from Ken Dixon in Waldorf. First was my 06LX Coupe, then my mother-in-laws 06LX Sedan, and just recently my wifes 06SE.
Granted, buying three cars in short order gave me a bit of leverage, but my salesman (lady) has been fabulous.

.....kinda wish you'd been around when I bought my AV6 6M last summer. I used CarsDirect (after all the local hotshots proved inept) at 23.4 w/o TTL. How does that look from your Lone Star view?

    ..appreciate your (delayed) 'presence'.....

    best, ez..

i'm looking to make the same deal at the same dealership. what was the out-of-the-door price?
  • kw_dakw_da Member Posts: 76
    Hi,

Is your $19,800 with destination? With TTL? What price do you thing you can get it for?

    Thanks,

    David
  • ramarama Member Posts: 10
    $21,450 was OTD price
I live out of state so my TTL is different than a GA resident (TTL not included when giving OTD prices for that reason)
  • rbell2rbell2 Member Posts: 180
That price is incredible . . . . almost unbelievable.

I am showing the invoive on an EX-L/Auto/I4 at ~$23,000 (including destimation charges). If you take off the $750 rebate you are at $22,250 net invoice. Why are they willing to go all the way to $21,500?

I doubt I can do that well in Memphis.
  • louisnlouisn Member Posts: 110
I dealt with Wolfchase in Memphis about 45 days ago and they were quoting me 1000 under invoice for the 6 speed coupe which has a 1000 dealer incentive. I did talk to someone at Dobbs and they did mention possibly going into their holdback if they had a 6 speed in their inventory which they didn't. Rama's price is the lowest I've seen. Seems like Rama got the invoice minus the entire holdback minus the dealer incentive on his deal.
