I noticed that also, from what I hear black and silver are by the far the popular colors in the coupe, maybe they are pluggin in a color adjustment or something.

    Hi there,
Just so you know, I'm the one from CA that was able to get a price qoute for 23,100 on a EX-L V6. I may have posted a follow up earlier- but I thought I'd let you know that the dealership did come through with that price!

I don't know why the difficulty with prices in Seattle, but I would tell the dealership upfront that I was looking strictly at invoice prices and didn't want to pay anything over that. I don't know...maybe I sounded crazy, but they all seemed ready to work with me. I wasn't expecting that much *under* invoice, but I started getting price qoutes in my email from dealerships offering really low prices. Maybe additional manf. to dealer incentives...I don't know for sure, but they were making their money somewhere. The dealership I ended up buying from beat out another dealer qoute by $100. That's how I ended up with the 23,100. They mentioned this was really low, and that they weren't making anything. Sure!...I can't see a dealerhsip giving me a car because they like me. But hey, I ended up liking them! Hopefully, we were all happy.

Good Luck with your low price hunt!
(p.s I couldn't stand the looks of the car....but its soooo great to drive! I'm starting to love everything about it!!!)

This is on a four door 2003 EX V-6 right? Also, what dealership, and if you don't feel a liberty to tell, at least what area Sac, San Jose, San Fran...etc. How long did it take you to get that price?
Also, to anyone, does the 2003 EX I4(2.4) with leather have "dual climate" "power driver seat" "side curtain air bags" "traction control" and the "alloy rims" like the EX V-6???
    thx
ps what have dealers been quoting on invoice for 2003 EX I4(2.4) leather four door???
  • mikek37mikek37 Member Posts: 411
Unfortunately only on the V6 can you get the side curtain airbags and TC.
  • tbgartbgar Member Posts: 16
    alupnyas & northwest1,

Yes, the car I purchased is a 2003(4 door sedan) Accord EX V6 with leather (no navigation) And of course, this price is *before* Tax & Liscense. They gave me the floor mats (I think they always do this- not sure though) and I got a nifty keychain (I know- who cares...but they were nice). And a spoiler for somewhere around $450.

As for how long it took me to get this price...the dealership I bought from said they'd beat other dealer's qoute by $100- so that was easy. I think I worked on getting different prices for a little over a week. I noticed prices dropping around President's Day weekend...lots of sales. I'm thinking many of the dealerships didn't move as many cars as they wanted to. I got a lot of emails and calls after that weekend with lowered prices.

I really want to tell you guys exactly where to go and who to speak with, but when I was leaving the dealership I told her I'd recommend her to anyone I knew was looking for a car. I then asked about the price and if that's something she'd be able to do for others (she said she'd prefer it if I didn't mention it because she didn't think it was something she'd be able to do frequently).

However, I will say that I am in San Jose. Also, another dealership (either Hayward or Fremont?)emailed me a price qoute through one of those website likes autoweb.com, autobytel,..etc. I can't remember which one specifically because I used a bunch. This quote was for the price of 23,200! This was without even talking to the dealership. I found that dealers will usually beat other dealer's qoute by $100 if it is a first offer qoute and not something that has been negotiated. The 23,200 was not- this is why I'm telling you guys which dealership (or as best as I can remember).

For those of you who aren't in this area....maybe getting a price qoute online from one of these dealers and taking it to one of your local dealers? Don't know if that would do anything, but it may give you some leverage.

I used a lot of the online qoute services mentioned on carbuyingtips.com And I only spoke with internet/fleet managers.

Hope I've been of some help!

I got a great deal from Bernardi Honda in Natick, MA on my 2003 Accord DX M/T. Sale price was 11,395 and out the door price was 11,888. Great deal especially considering I almost bought a Toyota Corrolla for about the same price, a totally inferior car!
  • northwest1northwest1 Member Posts: 65
Did you have to do any haggling to get that price on the DX manual or can "anyone" walk in and get it? You got the car and the price that I have been looking for. Those DX manuals seem to be scarce out here in the Western US. Care to offer the name of your sales person?
  • alupnyasalupnyas Member Posts: 8
Thank you!! I've been doing the same as you and everyone in Seattle area are going $800.00 to $1000.00 over their: (23647.67) quote of invoice. This quote includes destination $460.00 and a undisclosed advertising fee?? It would be worth it to fly into San Jose for $69.99 on Southwest airlines webfare and pick one up. What would I do about registration, tax, and license?? ((Any knowledge of this possible process would be greatly appreciated!)) Oh..wait..traveling I-5..roughly 25 miles/gal into 780 miles(seattle to San Jose) = 31 gallons to travel * $1.90 a gallon....($58.90 for gas)..I believe it has a 17.1 tank right ;0)
So I save $1500.00 in price, tax in Seattle is 8.8% which comes to ($2032.80 on $23,100) in Steven Creek of San Jose 8.25% which comes to ($1905.75 on $23,100) $127.05 tax savings makes up for the (gas and webfare)..man!! Ok there must be some tax catch when I try to register my car in Seattle right..otherwise we Seattlites should catch the next plane to San Jose!!! Anyway I'll keep hunting a catch here in Washington...but I think I'll catch Bigfoot first..lol
    thx everyone
ps..I need a vacation anyway..what better place than Bay Area

    http://www.dol.wa.gov/vs/tr-new.htm#pay

This site explains the fees for licensing an out of state vehicle in WA. Read about the "use tax" which you will pay in lieu of WA sales tax (use tax is charged at the same rate as sales tax), but the sales tax you pay in CA is credited against your use tax obligation (i.e. you only pay the difference). There are other small fees (a few dollars here and there) as well. Bottom line: it does not appear to cost any more tax-wise to buy in CA...just the knowledge that your tax $ is going to fund Government services in CA vice WA, where you live.

Does anyone know how competative the pricing of the EX-V6 is in the Chicago area? Is paying invoice or a few hundred over invoice possible?
  • kenbbkenbb Member Posts: 38
Any one getting any good deals on 2003 LX Auto. in the Kansas City area? I would like to get one but can't seem to get any quotes close to invoice. What is the best I can expect? Who is the best dealer? Have to come from out of town so it makes it tough.
  • svalleysvalley Member Posts: 30
Not sure about EX-V6, but after reading a lot of posts here I think the higher trim the car is the better discount. I was shopping for an automatic LX sedan(last week) and I was quoted at invoice from almost all the local dealers. I ended up buying my car from Continental Honda for $460 under invoice with no add-on. They didn't even try to push any extended warrenty or paint protection and offered all Dealer install options at cost. I dealt with the sales guy Joe D thru e-mail, Good Luck.

    Hey Guys,

I'm looking for a EX V6 coupe in NYC....what are the prices that you guys paid for?

    Thanks.
  • northwest1northwest1 Member Posts: 65
Not sure why the perceived downside in publicizing the dealer/salesperson who made your deal. Each deal is a stand-alone affair...just because they offered it to you does not mean they have to offer it to me. Seems to me that your salesperson would want as many referrals as possible. If I go in asking for the same deal as tbgar, they have the unilateral choice to say yes or no. I have no "rights" in this matter. If no, it's my time wasted, not theirs. At least it gives them the choice to do business with the rest of us. I realize I'm venting a bit, but this is information I would find very useful.
  • richm4richm4 Member Posts: 169
Svally, thanks much for the reply.

Actually, Continental Honda in Countryside was where I have been looking and it's where I would be preferring to buy from. I guess I'll try to ask for a few hundred under invoice. I assume they must be a large volume dealer to offer such a great deal, right?
  • svalleysvalley Member Posts: 30
I am not sure they are large volume dealer or not.
I was initially offered $130 under invoice, then I counter offered $460 under then they accepted. I told them the color I want (rare white, made in Japan). The car was washed and filled up with full tank of gas by the time I got there. I was out of the dealer with my new car in just over an hour(included test drive and trade in my old car). Continental Honda's website has online inventory so you know what they have in stock with VIN number. My wife's LX is a very nice car, I am sure that your EX-V6(which I could bought if it is my car) should be way better. Happy Shopping

I've never purchased a car out of state, and I'm wondering what all it entails. I assume all I'll have to do is buy the car, pay that state's sales tax plus a temporary registration, then pay my own state sales tax (minus what I paid in the other state) when I go to license it. Am I close?

    Thanks.
  • glenn3398glenn3398 Member Posts: 16
ten years ago I bought a car in new york, and lived in new jersey. the new york dealer gave me a temporary 30 day tag, (no sales tax) When the car was registered in new jersey I paid the full sales tax to the DMV. Not sure if all states work like this but this was my experience.

    Hi guys,

I am currently researching the purchase of a 2003 LX sedan w/ side airbags, or an EX sedan. Your comments are helpful in the process. The wife & I have had a great experience with our '96 Civic EX, but need something a bit larger for the family.

    My questions:

Has either of you dealt with any of the north suburban Honda dealers, either over the internet or in person(?) The prices listed on the Continental web site seemed lower than what I saw in my area (Muller in Highland Park, Castle, OHare, & Pauly).

Svally> $460 under invoice seems pretty incredible ;). Would you mind sharing the (total) out the door price (including tax, etc.) you paid as well(?) I have not sought out any internet sales quotes yet, but need to get moving.

Does anyone know if any special financing will become available in March?

    thanks for your help,
    Pedro

Looking to buy an Accord, V6, EX with navi. Lowest price I have received to date is about 400 hundred over invoice. They've gotta go lower than that. Anyone do a better deal lately in Boston?
  • svalleysvalley Member Posts: 30
My out the door price would be $19400 (18K + 7%tax + $53 doc fee + $80 registration + $15 cook county tax) without my trade-in. The farthest north I went was Schaumburg Honda, they offered MSRP initially, then I told them they got to be kidding me (also offered nothing for my trade-in a 2001 corolla LE with only 19K miles). Before I left there they did offer me invoice + $170 mud guard. Schaumburg contacted me like 2 minutes before I left my house to pick my wife's LX from Continental, I told them my Continental's offer, and they told take it. If Continental Honda is too far south for you, you might want to check out Grand Honda in Elmhurst(just off I-290 and RT. 83), they seems to have pretty good price, but they tend to put add-on to their cars, just keep your eyes open on that. Good Luck.
  • damba98damba98 Member Posts: 4
I appreciate the numbers you posted ;).

Still wavering between the LX and the EX. That's a great out the door price though. The Schaumburg dealership is very close to where my wife works, so it might be another good one to approach. Haven't checked their web site yet.

I have one question on a couple of cars I saw listed online @ continental. What other charges are not included in the prices they list(?) For example, on page 2 of their new car inventory, there are 2 or 3 EXs listed for $20,633 (stock # N4630, etc.). On the Muller Honda site (closest dealer to my house) the EX sedan shows @ $22,840. Is Continental just leaving some extra charges off the online price(?)

    thanks again,

Interested in EX V6 with and w/o nav. How much below or close to invoice has anyone paid? Also what price did anyone pay for fog lights?

    Thanks.

I was quoted $24,000 ($325 over invoice) for an 03 Accord EX-L V6 at a Long Island dealer.

I think that there are better prices out there. i waiting for a few online price quotes still.
  • mikek37mikek37 Member Posts: 411
24,000 on long island is a very good deal.
  • cmd74cmd74 Member Posts: 15
How are people getting Accords EX-L V6 for $23,100 in other parts of the country?

I can't see how dealer volume could be the issue as I'm sure all NY metro area Honda dealers are high volume.
  • mikek37mikek37 Member Posts: 411
I dont understand either. I paid around 23,900 for my EX V6 with a trim kit and exhaust tip finishers. I cant understand how they are getting them below 23,700. The only way I think its possible, in most cases, is they are also computing the price with a trade in.
  • redselredsel Member Posts: 19
    hydra2,
Try Grand Honda in Elmhurst, prices listed on web sight. Carrs advertises at invoice(published, Edmunds, etc.). I am pursuing best pricing in Chicago area as well. A recent post alluded to Continental as selling at lowest price. I am still awaiting a response from them. Please advise as to your findings. I will try and update as well.
  • kglanekglane Member Posts: 3
We checked out Tacoma Honda Dealer and they did not seem to have the same markup as Auburn/Fife/Renton and Bellevue.

I have bought cars in Oregon while a Washington resident and you have to pay the sales tax when you license it in Washington.
  • nyaccordnyaccord Member Posts: 6
I am just about to buy 2003 Accord coupe EX V6, I just had a nice quote of $55 below invoice in the nyc area. I am sure there are better deals out there. But this seems fairly reasonable to me. Lets hope the saleperson keeps her promise.
  • svalleysvalley Member Posts: 30
I don't how accurate the price on Continental's website is, I solely use it to check what they have in stock. I could just e-amil both dealerships and see who can give you better offer. BTW I contacted Continental thru carsdirect free quote, not sure will they give you the same price if you contact them directly. The sale guys I dealt with was Joe D., if you need his e-mail, I can forward it to you.

I notices a lot of Chicagian posting lately, I want to say good luck to all. Accord is a very fine car, I just wished my wife could agree with me to purchase the EX-V6 instead of her LX.

Thanks, I will try carsdirect too. My initial thought was to email directly if possible to get at least a shred of a 'personal' component to the negotiations. Short of actually going to the dealership, of course ;).

Oh, I figured out what the 20,619 figure was. It's the dealer invoice price. Some of the dealers still want to 'hide' this information from the consumer I suppose. Others have it listed in plain English- go figure(!)

I would appreciate it if you could send me the email of the salesman that you dealt with just in case. Please send it to: damba98@yahoo.com

    take care,

I have been doing some research and got the following quotes for above:

    EX 4 cyl. w/ automatic - $20625 (includes dest)

    LX 4 cyl. w/ automatic - $18500 (includes dest)

Are these good prices? I live on Long Island NY. If there are better quotes out there on LI, please advise. Thanks.

I want to get the exactly what you get from the Hillside Honda at NYC. I has signed the page at 01/11/03. However, they can't give me a day when they can deliver my car. They also say the Honda have not produce the car yet and then they say they already look in the tri-state for swapping but nobody have it...
I am enough with them now. What is your dealer's name? May be I can calll your dealer for a quick quote.

    Hi!
I just bought my Accord LX (Auto) Side Airbags for $18,449 out-the-door. The dealer offered me the car at $17,688 + Tax, title, registration. The price was $999 below invoice and $391 below factory invoice (Source: Consumer Reports New Car Pricing). I am still wondering how I got this deal?? Any insight would help. Nobody was ready to negotiate below invoice. I am wondering if they had a rebate/incentive for dealers during the last week of February - as President day weekend sales here in Virginia were very poor?
    FACTS:
NO Accessories - so no additional cost.
Car built in Jan 2003 – so hasn’t been sitting on the lot
Miles – 4 when I drove it off the lot.
    Money down - $0
Finance - Through Honda Finance at 2.9% for 60 months, so they didn't make any money there.
  • cmd74cmd74 Member Posts: 15
Your prices are just a few buck over Edmunds invoice prices. Not bad prices at all.

Just make sure they don't add any fees to this b/c that's were your prices will start to go up.

All the dealer quotes I've been getting are without any fees or extra Dealer installed options.
  • miamirocksmiamirocks Member Posts: 17
Hey I agree w/ you. If you can save a few dollars why not, they are yours. This should help:

BTW, they made a mistake w/ my inception and gave me a refund of $11.00 (overcharge of the tag and title) so really my inception was 576.

As for the montly payment to be exact I pay $369.89. Our tax rate is 7% so w/o taxes it would be 345.69 a month.

So you're getting a good deal too! Go for it and enjoy the car. And of course what's great about leasing in 3 years we get the newer one (hopefully w/HID's).

    Keep us posted.

NOTE: I posted this in the general Accord (as a reply) and re-posted here for anyone else comparing prices. Hope it helps. This is for a 2003 EX-V6.
  • kohinahikohinahi Member Posts: 112
    Thanks Irish!
We have owned two Accords prior to this one and have enjoyed each one of them. The new car drives real well. It is extremely spacious, confortable and quiet. Though I find the interiors a little bland, I also appreciate the positive externality of it being non-intrusive. I think the combination of comfort, quality and price makes this a desirable car.

I may go with them now, however I still want to check out a Passat.

Any idea when and if these will drop below MSRP? Premium for 6 speed manual over the auto is $3500.
  • jmessjmess Member Posts: 677
I predict the price for the 6sp coupe will drop when people refuse to pay a preimum for the car. The first 30-60 days is usually the time when demand is the highest. Once the 6spds start lounging on the lot the price will drop like a rock. So wait 3-6 months and you will save a lot of money. By the end of 03 you will be able to buy one for invoice.

I would suggest you go look at the G35 coupe or even an IS300 or G35 sedan (now available with manual). With these cars you get a longer warranty, much better service, and will be money ahead.

Heck you can buy a Acura CL-TypeS with a 6 speed and limited slip diff for invoice now. You need to consider the depreciation hit you will take by paying $3500 over MSRP; it will be huge a year from now.

!!!These people will not budge!!! Help....$900 $1000, $1200, $1250, all over invoice...Had dealer in Tacoma offer $25,100, asked him to do better he told me through email, good luck shopping, and thank you for shopping. Thats it, no return call or email..My thoughts.....Washington has high overhead costs and/or a market for Accord EX V6 at MSRP or above, and my requests are futile. I'm going to venture over the Cascades and check in Spokane market. If no luck then I must got get the 2.3 I4, and looks like pay pretty much what they ask :0( What quotes are people getting on Accord EX 2.3 I4 with leather..your help will determine where to start from for me....aaarrgghh.
P.s. I've been talking with these people over a week now..
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
Have you tried the carsdirect price for your area? In Atlanta they have the 2003 EX-4 with leather for $20,718 for the manual and $21,437 for the automatic. The EX-V6 sedan is $23,574. It's worth a shot to see what they are offering in your area and then you can either use that to negotiate with a dealer or just buy the car directly through them.
  • redkey1redkey1 Member Posts: 270
The ex v6 coupe w/ 6speed is going for msrp, not $3500 over msrp. I'm somewhat confused as to why you chose those other cars as comparison. The Acura's invoice is over 28.5k, the G35 is almost 30k and the IS is over 28k. All are at least $3k more than the accord even at MSRP.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 266,064
info on acura cl-s. You can indeed buy these for invoice minus $1500 dealer cash. That puts the price right down around $27K, definitely competitive with what they are asking for six-speed accords.
