You get to make the final decision, however...as I recall "savvybuyer" in San Jose CA bought a 2003 EX auto (no leather) for about $19.3K plus tax and license (look at the messages posted from around 1/15/03). If you subtract $700 for the value of the auto tran, this means he got it for an equivalent price of about $18.6K (no leather). If it were me, this is not enough of a price difference to warrant buying an 02, which is a old-generation Accord design in addition to being 1 chronological year old. Maybe you can go up to Boston, where it seem some really good deals are being found on 03's. www.herbchambers.com has some on-line newspaper ads you can look at. Again, it's your money and your call.

We paid $21,000 for our EX-L 5-speed coupe. $18,000 is a decent price. I might hold out for $17,500 depending on the interest rate they are giving you.

Could I still have gotten my lease (post 1680&1682) at a lower price ??? I forgot abt the dealer holdback...
  • modredabyssmodredabyss Member Posts: 22
The list price on this car as shown by carsdirect is $19,900, which means that you got the car for $645 below invoice. I'm buying the same car but with leather and automatic and the best price I've been quoted is $250 below invoice. You did good.

How close are you finding the published invoice prices on Edmunds and etc to the invoice price that your dealer is using for the quote?

One Toyota dealer gave me a price quote that shows:

base cost + hold back + TDA (Toyota Dealer Advertising) fee + 30 day flooring cost + Gas charge = invoice

The TDA, flooring, and gas fees add about $400 to the published price you see on Edmunds.

What are you guys seeing for Hondas, does the published invoice match the dealer invoice??

For example Edmunds list the invoice price for the Accord 4dr EX-L 4cyl automatic at $21788. Does this match the dealer invoice price?

hold back should be a minus not a plus, the dealer is trying to double dip, suprise huh... I know that the southern toyota dealers have an ad fee but kbb.com and edmunds.com both list the fee so you know what that should be. Pretty much every cost they are giving you is pure BS, go to another dealer if they don't take it off. Those fees are equivalent to the BS dealer prep charges and paint protection. The published dealer invoice is the true invoice, the invoice they give you is a fake or fixed invoice, don't trust it. You would trust what a dealer says over edmunds.com or kbb.com.... anyway, most dealers claim that the online invoices are wrong but they are just lying to you. 30 day flooring cost, that's a good one, you pay because they couldn't sell the car... what a crook. that's just their business cost they are trying to make you pay for. that's what holdback is suppose to be for.

    Hi Paul,
If it is a drive away price, it is good. you know when I was at a honda dealer, they gave me the base price which is $33,350 ( Tax, GST, PST ... exclude)for EX V6 and can only have less than $1,000. discount.but that was last dec. I do know whether there is any change now.
  • jmessjmess Member Posts: 677
    moolman:

I think Edmunds indicates that their invoice price doesn't include advertising fee. When I added the holdback to the dealer's base price I got the invoice price that Edmunds shows. As far as I can tell with some cars, there is a regional advertising fee that is tacked on to cars by the mfg; wether this is real money out of the dealers pocket or a built in negotiating tool is the question. The dealers advertise all the time on the local media and you don't see a fee on the invoice for that.

What appears to be unusual about the Toyota quote I got was the flooring cost and gas charge. I didn't buy the car as a result.

Can anyone confirm that the dealer invoice price for a Honda matches the Edmunds invoice price?

All of these "fees" are BS. It's simply a way for the dealer to advertise a low cost on a car, but get some of that back in "fees". I refuse to do business with a dealer that uses these tactics.

The dealers I've done business with recently, in my area Autofair and Honda Barn charge only for Title/Tags & a reasonable (~ $79) document fee.

Any other "fees" should be built into the price of the car.

I think you got a good deal. Last month I requested an internet Quote from local dealer (Indianapolis) that I had purchased from several years ago.

They came back offering 200 over invoice for purchase. I then asked for their best lease deal for true zero down 36 mo 15k lease. They came back at 340 per mo before taxes which I thought was excellent. That same day I had an offer for the car I was selling so I called and told him I'd be by the next day to close the deal.

When I looked at the lease contract they listed an agreed upon value of the vehicle 23,745 and the gross cap cost of 24,295. Money Factor was .0024 with the same exceat residual as you 15,493.

I think if I would have had time I may have been able to take their 200 over invoice and calculate my own exact lease numbers from info Carman provides here at Edmunds. Probably would have only saved $5 bucks or so a month. So for me, having to lease quickly and with the local dealers not having many V6 sedans in stock the deal made sense.

    enjoy!

May be useful to some as a bargaining tool... Texas limits documentary fees to $50. In 2001 they turned down a bill to raise it to $75. It is NOT a legally required fee.

I was able to get my 2003 LX Accord for $17,762.00. I feel I got a pretty good price (although the lot was full of Accords!)
Good time to buy right now also.

  • redselredsel Member Posts: 19
Bob, I too am price shopping for an EX-V6 sedan, have not rec`d.as good an offer as the $22,995 as mentioned. Was that on a car with no miles? (not Demo etc.) Would be very much interested in which Dealership this is in St. Louis. I have a possible deal at a Store in an outerlying area, awaiting availability of color choice. $22,995.sounds appealing, I would say it is a good price, do they have assortment of colors? Want Eternal Blue.

What are the chances Honda will match toyota ands give 1.9% financing? I've been waiting for then to give. Toyota Camry XLE comes in at about 23700. Honda EX 4 should be less than that with leather correct?

I am thinking about buying an 03 EX auto in March and wondering what kind of deal can people get. I saw a post about EX auto in Bay Area and it is 19255. Can I get a quote near that in MA? Anyone please drop me a line?

    Thanks.

Dealers in this area are advertising around 13K for Honda DX 5 SPD with no air conditioning. A salesman told me that I could by the car for $13K and then get a new A/C installed for $1200. Do you think that is possible?

Do dealer installed A/C units have any concerns for quality?

Do you think this is a good deal?
  • billiam70billiam70 Member Posts: 54
I wouldn't worry about the dealer installing the a/c unit. 10 years ago that's how most Honda products were. I had a 92 Integra that did not come standard with A/C so the dealer had to install it. Never had a problem in the 7 years I owned the car.

c`mon bobfeld, need to know Which Dealership offered 03 EX-V6 for $23,995 and if that is just a one off due to miles on car etc. Am eager to know if this is the price available on any car at their store and if they have selection. If reluctant to list Dealership here please E-Mail me at: sinnedm@msn.com

I plan to purchase the 2003 Accord LX-G 4cyl automatic within the next couple of days. The best price I have seen in Montreal is $25570 (prep. of $850 included). Is this a good deal?

Thanks and in advance and good luck in your own car purchases!
  • kudikudi Member Posts: 8
The 19255 quote in the Bay area looks pretty strong. Unless you specifically find ads for it, you may have to work a bit to get the price down that low in MA. For comparison, here's a Boston dealer's site that lists internet prices (http://www.hondacarsofboston.com/offer.asp) for all types of Hondas (acccords, civics...). Note that prices include shipping. It basically says that you can get a no haggle EX auto for 20,200 + shipping. Most of the prices range for various models run from 400 under (LX Auto) to 400 over (EX v6 Nav) invoice. The web site also says that they'll match lower prices. In short, the listed price on this site is the MAXIMUM you should pay, wherever you go (Herb Chambers, Boch, Bernardi...). And if you don't mind haggling, you should be able to get better deals.

I know this is off topic, but has anyone else been experiencing the larger fonts Edmunds has been using on it's message boards today. It's a little disconcerting to me.

This post refers to #1702 03 EX-V6 for $22,995 in St. Louis by bobfeld. In post # 1710 I fat fingered and typed $23--- instead of $22--- oops would not have been that great of deal. Still waiting for follow up on $22,995 deal, which St. Louis Dealer?

I paid $18712 ($250 over invoice) for my 4-door LX Auto in mid-December at Open Road Honda in Edison. I think the prices should be a bit less now. Great car, good dealership. No BS, etching, mop-n-glow, etc. Straight easy deal. Dealt with the internet manager.
  • atlantabennyatlantabenny Member Posts: 735
Friday ad shows above with "15 units at this price, no additional accessories, etc." Almost certainly excludes destination. Overproduction/low-demand ?
  • creddycreddy Member Posts: 8
This is what I was quoted and placed an order for the same in NJ. Also the only additional charges are destination 460 and Tax, title plus doc fee of 138$. Did speak to other dealers, some of them quoted about 23K plus destination etc...if anyone knows of a dealer having Silver EX V6 please let me know....so that I can have my car earlier....Please dont ever go to Planet Honda, those guys are pure cheats, They first refused to negotiate on price and when i walked out, they catch me while i am driving out, call me back in and then gree to sell the car for my requested price..then make me fill out all the paper work and charge money on my card and then say they just sold the car and now i have to run behind them to get my money back.. its been a week and i am still trying to get money...
  • northwest1northwest1 Member Posts: 65
Does your $13K figure for a Accord DX 5 speed include the $460 delivery fee? Is this price commonly avaliable in the Boston area, or did you have to haggle for it? Also, have you seen decent stock availability of DX 5 speeds? Out where I am in the Pacific Northwest, DX's are almost non-existent. The dealers here say nobody wants them, so they don't order them.
  • atlantabennyatlantabenny Member Posts: 735
$22,995 is for the the dealer's 02 left-overs. Sorry. Makes Creddy's price very attractive indeed.
  • 03honda03honda Member Posts: 96
What dealer in NJ quoted you that price??
  • 10561056 Member Posts: 2
I live in the Sacramento area and have seen most add prices here well above 18000 for an LX Auto. I bought an S2000 late last year here and found it cheaper here than than Bay Area. But right now Anderson/Direct is quoting 17610 on the internet and Capitol Honda will go 17500 for a Graphite LX inc. destination. So, I plan to drive down and pick one up on Sunday. So far a very easy purchase, and I've printed their email quote. Also getting 4.9%. Has anybody gotten lower rates on an 03 Accord recentely?
  • modredabyssmodredabyss Member Posts: 22
I just purchased (or agreed to purchase) a 4-cylinder EX-L sedan with automatic. The invoice price was $21,922; I'm paying $21,522 plus TTL. The transaction was all cash with no trade-in.

The dealer did not have the car I wanted, and I did not want a dealer swap. Fortunately, one is coming to this dealer from the factory in 10 days, and that's the one I’m getting.

I shopped for and priced this car through the internet and e-mail. I had never done this before but found it to be a pleasant way to buy a car. Having the "how much did you pay" background from this group helped a lot.

BTW, I live in Southern California.

1056 -- I live in the Vacaville/Fairfield area. Did you try Honda of Stevens Creek in San Jose. I had a quote from Capitol but went with Stevens Creek. I bought a 2003 Honda Accord Sedan EXL Automatic w/Navigation for $23,185 (plus Tax and License)in Graphite Pearl. It was hassle free. I dealt with Vince from the fleet department. I have an old quote from them for a 2003 Accord LX Sedan Automatic for $17,388. Not sure what their current prices are; but they are re-paving their parking lot and are pushing vehicles out for space and may go cheaper--not sure though. They also advertise they will beat any price by $100. The finance rate was 4.49%. This board saved me a lot of money...thanks to everyone!

If Honda dealers have the huge backlog they are adevertising isn't it reasonable they will have to come up with a 1.95 interest rate or lower?
  • mbfjackmbfjack Member Posts: 23
    Thanks.
It has been a week I didn't look at the board, but I just saw your suggestion about '03 Accord EX V6. I will now look for that page from...2 weeks ago now, I suppose.
    Thank you.

I bought my new 2003 Accrd EX-V6 Coupe for $24100 + tax/tag/title. The invoice on Edmunds is $23795, so I figure that I did pretty good. But, the car I got was in the back lot, and not prepped when I bought it, so the dealer got their holdback and incentives. I bought at Hennessy Honda in Woodstock, GA and had a very pleasant experience, expecially after paying over MSRP for my 2001 Odyssey.
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
Congratulations on the car. We bought our first SI at Hennessy and they were pretty easy to work with. They just didn't give us the floor mats they had promised. Otherwise they were great.
  • prep21prep21 Member Posts: 17
My brother got a 2k2 SI yesterday at Planet Honda on Route 3 @ 1.9% apr.
  • brodwaybrodway Member Posts: 85
Just got a quote for $339 for 36months 12k miles...'03 EX V6....first month and motor vehicle fees up front....everything else rolled into the lease price....no termination fees and a nifty 1500 credit/deductible for any tear and wear through American Honda.

Does this sound consistent with what lease deals you have been seeing out there?
  • irishironirishiron Member Posts: 5
I am looking to purchase a 2003 Honda Accord EX V-6. I am wondering if the price I have recieved is good. With T,T&L in Pennsylvania and a rear spoiler the price is $26,114.00. I am also going to be financing the car at around 4.75% is the best I can get right now. I am currently in a lease that is up March 14th so I need to move on this quickly please offer any help.

    Thank you for your time
  • brodwaybrodway Member Posts: 85
Honda Motor is offering 2.9% on purchase until February 18th i believe....so the 4.75% is a bit out of line....

I also think you can do better than $26k on the EX V6....$23675 is invoice....add on the spoiler and tags and you should be close to that number.
  • jxlxrjxlxr Member Posts: 61
The price looks right. If the spoiler is about $700, and the tax is 6%, and about $200 in fees, then the car costs you about 23,700 which is close to invoice.
  • modredabyssmodredabyss Member Posts: 22
The best way to determine whether you're getting a good deal is to price the car at carsdirect.com and note the invoice price. Most people are paying from about $100 over invoice to about $500 below invoice. If you are in this range, the price is competitive.
  • billiam70billiam70 Member Posts: 54
How did you hear of this financing? I checked with the dealer I'm working with and they said there are no finance specials on the Accord right now.
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
Don't pay $700 for the spoiler. You can get one off of www.handa-accessories.com for $250. It's an OEM spoiler. Add in 1 hour of labor if that much and the most you should pay is around $350.
  • 10561056 Member Posts: 2
I just picke up an 03 Graphite AT LX for 17,400
at Stevens Creek Honda in San Jose. Dealt with the Internet Mgr. Charles Bayard. Also got 4.45%
financing. Very pleasant experience. Also I'm really impressed with the car. Even though I'm
breaking it in, I briefly hit 90mph on the way back to Sacramento. Only 3K RPM and smooth as glass. All from a 4cyl iVTEC engine that get's over 30MPG, very impressive.

I was just over at the Honda site reading some of the FAQ's, and two were pertinent to recent discussions. I suspect these are in the manual and are old news to many of you, but my car doesn't come until next week, so I'm not sure. Anyway, I thought I would pass this along as a BTW.

The first FAQ relates to when the severe driving maintenance schedule should be followed:

Follow the "severe" schedule only if you drive in one or more of these conditions most of the time:

    * Trips of less than 5 miles (less than 10 in freezing weather).

    * Extremely hot weather (over 90 degrees F).

    * Extensive idling or stop-and-go driving.

    * Trailer towing, driving with a car-top carrier, or driving in the mountains.

    * Muddy, dusty, or de-iced roads.

The second FAQ concerns the first oil change on a new car:

Your Honda engine was delivered with an oil that is specially formulated for new engines that have not yet developed their "natural" wear patterns and may contain minute particles from the manufacturing process. American Honda strongly recommends this special oil be left in the engine long enough for these wear patterns to develop, usually until the first maintenance interval specified in your Owner's Manual, based on your specific driving conditions.
