by the way, i got the same car but with manual. The leather is something i wasn't sure of, but once i got the car i couldn't imagine having gone with cloth. awesome interior, eh?! Enjoy your car !
Can someone explain how this process works? My goal is get their trade-in price before we even negotiate the new car price. I have the kbb value so I know what range I want to hear. But how do they determine the price? Do they take it around back and kick the tires...and how long does that take? Or do they just look at it and say we give $xk for that vehicle?
The retail price is what the dealer can sell it to someone else for. The spread has to be a few thousand to allow the dealer an opportunity to make a profit after he invests in repairs to your car.
You should sell your car privately if you expect a "retail" price.
If you are going to trade, you should consider that in many states you can deduct the cost of your trade from the price of the new car when the sales tax is figured. In Florida, where I am, that can save you several hundred dollars in sales tax.
My advice to you is to go over to the real world trade values board here at Edmunds smart shoppers and post the specifics of your trade so that Terry can give you an appraisal. He is in the biz and will give you an accurate assessment of what your car is currently worth.
Include all the specifics of your car (color, mileage, options, where you live, the car's condition including tire wear) and Terry will give you a retail or trade number, whatever you request.
When you get that number, simply figure it into your offer for the new car. If Terry says your car is worth $10k on a trade, and the new car costs 20K, then offer your car and 10K.
Make your offer in out-the-door dollars, which includes all fees and taxes. That way you won't be ambushed by extra fees after you and the dealer decide on a price.
Hope this helped. Happy hunting!
Thanks
I'm in Cen. Fla. also. What dealer are you working with?
A better approach is to settle on a price you want to pay. Then say to the dealer "I will pay $xxx for this car." If they say no then use this line "I am going to go to other dealers and see if they will meet this price. If you think another dealer will sell me this car for this price then you should match it. If they don't I'll be back but if they do I am going to buy the car from them"

We get this all of the time and we know when the truth is being "adjusted". When this happens, I know, I lose interest quickly and look for my next customer.
You might also try Coggin-Osteen on the Trail. They seem pretty aggressive with their prices, but go through their internet department. It will save you a lot of time. They gave me a reasonably good quote right away. Coggin also seems to have a pretty good selection of most models in stock.
The warranty states that you should use your selling dealer if you are in that general area, but in practice, almost every dealer wants your service business. If they are really backed up on a recall, then they might try to shuffle you off to the selling dealer, but for scheduled maintenance? Every dealer wants that business.

Here it is again.
I got my quotes from various websites including Autobytel.com and Stoneage.com
All are Internet Sales Quotes.
Here's the exact quote from an e-mail (Captitol Honda).
*** Start Quote ***
2004 Honda Accord Sedan (auto)
YOUR LOW E-PRICE: 19,339+ tax/license (includes dest)
Call XXXXXXXXXXXX at 408-XXX-XXXX for details. This is the time to take advantage of this great opportunity.
***Offer valid only through XXXXXXXXXXXX, Internet Sales Manager***
*** End Quote ***
Autowest Honda will beat that by $100 --> $19,239.
Add the side curtain airbags for MSRP of $270 and you get $19,509
** All incl. destination $490
Invoice - $21,009
Steven Creek - $19,794
Anderson Honda - $20,065
Honda of Hayward - $20,258
Technology Credit Union - $19,944
These quotes were back in late May. If inventory is still available, I expect prices as good or better.
Car Purchase, 7-28-04 $22,750.00
Alarm $385.00 (We upgraded the alarm system)
Taxes $1,912.35
Other fees $283.00
Total $25,330.35
We bought it in Honda of El Cerrito. This is the best deal in town. Everyone else scoffed at us saying they'll never be able to beat the price. WE LOVE THE CAR! The only other dealership that said they'd match it was Steven Creek Honda of San Jose.
Without the Alarm upgrade it would've cost you $24,911. THIS IS THE BEST PRICE YOU'LL GET. I promise.
PS: MY husband read www.carbuyingtips.com the whole thing and it helped him greatly.
thanks
BTW, Dan Manrino is an ex NFL quarterback for the Miami Dolphins
has anyone bought an ex v6 with navi recently ?
What should I be paying for this car now?
Also does anyone have an idea of how much the doc fees (or what they call TTL) should be in the NY area ?
thanks
Is the one that it comes with not enough ?
Thanks!

i got offer - 17,900 + tax and title (the price 17,900 includes destination fee and dealer/administration fees)
this deal is good only till tomorrow, therefore any info about the price from a professional car salesperson will be highly appreciated also.
thank you very much
As for "good till tomorrow" -- don't believe it.
novatraffic> than double what they offered after
novatraffic> one day of advertising. Crooks!!
novatraffic> They laughed when I said I was
novatraffic> going to sell it for that much.
Now you know why they have had the nickname "Rosenthieves" in this area for many years.
There are actually 4 Rosenthal Honda dealers in the area: Rosenthal Tysons Corner Honda (VA), Landmark Honda (VA), Fairfax Honda (VA) and College Park Honda (MD). Buyers beware!
I saw the post on the same car for $22,750.
Right, now I have recvd the following quote via email from a dealer here in Orlando (as posted by Patriot- Courtesy Honda)....first quote I've gotten via email
23,664.07 Invoice
490.00 Freight
-700.00 Adjustment
23,454.07 = BASE VEHICLE SELLING PRICE
0.00 - Trade Value
499.00 + Dealer Fee
23,953.07 = Taxable SUBTOTAL
1,462.18 +Taxes (@ 6%, 6%+$25, or 6%+$50)
183.50 +Tag/Title Fee ($183.50Trans) or ($283.50New)
+ Payoff
$25,598.75 =TOTAL CASH PRICE
I think I might be able to do better after reading the post on the lower price, maybe another 500-700 off. I also have to factor in how much I can possibly get for my 96 honda civic dx.
anyone thoughts on the price I got quoted? good/bad/fair?
thanks,
I took the same deal to them from another dealership (sent to me via email) and they matched it without haggling. They had a bigger selection of colors so I bought a blue one from them. No pressure to buy warranty or any other options. Test drove, chose, done.
Essentially the base, then, was $17092; rest was dealer fee $250; + VA tax, tags, title, freight.
Good deal?
Go to a site like carsdirect.com and configure your car to get the invoice price. Minus 3% MSRP for the holdback and another $500 for the current Honda-to-dealer incensitive. That's the "dealer cost", although I don't know if that's really true or not.
For the Accord LX auto with side air bags and CA partial zero emmission I bought today, this is the data:
MSRP: $20,990
invoice: $18,942
holdback: -$630
incensitive: -$500
"dealer cost": $17,812
I paid: $17,800 + $45 doc + tax and registration
tax and Title(new plates)included:27332 (NY City)
So 26000 sounds a lot.
I am trying to work with them too. They're pretty responsive it seems. I am not pleased with their dealer markup either $499 dealer fee. I recvd a quote from them, and don't know what to make of it, any advice is appreciated.
Per your post, if they are going as low as $1250 below invoice, then why did I *only* get quoted $700 off invoice. I think I can do better. Isn't it "honda clearance time?"
Thanks,
you live and you learn!
We just had a very disheartening experience with Dick Ide Honda and are writing to advise others in this region to avoid this dealership at all costs.
We were in the market for a 2004 Honda Accord EX with leather. We printed out the invoice information from Edmunds and have been keeping up with these forums.
On Saturday, we visited Dick Ide Honda in Penfield, NY. They are constantly advertising that they have the best deals/prices in the area.
We went in and requested to test drive a 2004 Honda Accord EX with cloth and side curtain airbags (automatic transmission). They had told us over the phone that they had one in stock. They pulled the car up for us, and it was a *manual*, so we said we were only interested in an automatic.
They fumbled and after about 10 minutes said that the car had been "mis-listed" on their sheet as being automatic and that they didn't have any automatics in that style in stock. However, they offered to talk with us in terms of price because they would be getting more in in a few days.
We asked for them to show us an invoice on that model of car, and the salesperson said that he could NOT show us the invoice!!! We thought this was ridiculous, especially considering that all of the dealerships we had ever dealt with in the past were willing to show the invoice.
Dick Ide Honda is very much preying upon unknowledgeable people. We told our salesperson we had invoice information from Edmunds-- to which he responded that customers could look up the invoice numbers themselves online. We believe that our salesperson was the floor manager. He went into the back and returned within 10 minutes, offering us a price a little above invoice.
We told him that we were aware of the $500 manufacturer-to-dealer incentive and the holdback, so that we would like to discuss a price below invoice.
To this, he responded, "You guys just don't want us to make any money off this car, do you?!!!" and THREW the paper with the quote down on the table. We found this behavior entirely childish and unprofessional. At this point, we left and vowed to never set foot in that dealership again.
We would suggest avoiding Dick Ide Honda at all costs. Compared to Dick Ide Honda, other dealers in the Rochester, NY area are much more professional and treat people like actual human beings.
In contrast, we had a VERY GOOD experience with John Holtz Honda. We reached a very fair deal on a 2004 Honda Accord EX with leather (we ultimately decided upon leather instead of cloth), below invoice, with John Holtz Honda that same day. We called 2 other Honda dealers in town, and they were not willing to beat Holtz's price. John Holtz Honda was completely professional. We have also had great experience with John Holtz Honda in terms of servicing a Honda that we previously owned. We would highly recommend John Holtz Honda to others.
I don't have a time frame for the non-Hybrids.
At a $5k-$7k premium over the EX-V6 I figured it would take me about 10 years to make up the difference in gas savings. Not worth it. Plus I figured the mechanics probably wouldn't know how to fix it and/or it would be too expensive to fix.
Wanted to know what type of prices i should be looking for on this car. I saw that theres 1000 manufacter to dealer cash......i got a couple of offers for invoice on the car. The best offer i got is for 23,000 for the car (MSRP is 26,990....invoice is 24334) hes selling it to me for 23000.....total drive out is 24,687 with everything included on the ex v6 auto! Let me know please if thats a good deal? THanks
