That is ok if you include shipping charges in that price. It may be a couple of hundred high but it is a good price. There has been a lot written about taking a 2004 or 2005. I believe if you get a good price on a 2004 - buy it. You don't lose much if anything because your mileage will be one year less (around 15000 miles less). Couple that with the difference in price between the 2005 and 2004 and I don't see much difference.

Several reasons. If the car has been sitting on the lot for a long period of time, there might be a reason for this. For instance, I drove an accord the other day that stalled out several times on me. I quickly discarded this car as an option. Since I did not get a chance to drive this car before it was picked up at another dealer, I am naturally more skeptical of its condition.

I'm curious also. Do you feel that a car which came in January 2004 is more worthwhile than one that was manufactured in July of 2004? What harm is there for me to find out when the car was manufactured? It certainly would be beneficial for me to know now before I go to pick it up.

Seems pretty good. Got a quote for 25353.74 out the door for a 2004 EX V6 w/o navi.

Wonder how much you'd be able to get the car w/o the navigation.

Okay... I have an out-the-door price of $22,500. Taxes of about $1600. Chicago area. There are a couple of incidental add-ons on the car: wheel locks, mud flaps.

Since the dealer has not been responsive suggestions of a slightly lower price, I'm curious to know if others think this is a good price, okay price, bad price. Thanks.

I had a little extra time so I ran the numbers in KBB. I used 2001 and a 2000 EX V6 W/Leather to compare because they are the same model and in excellent condition.
    2001 2000
    75000 75000 Miles
    11675 10825 Trade in Value

The difference is $850, if you can get more than that off of the 2004 then it is a better deal to buy instead of wait. This, IMO, is true unless the changes in the 2005 are something you want.

I don't know what your market conditions are, but I had an offer of $21,900 out the door on that exact car in Orlando three months ago which included Florida's 6 percent sales tax. I recently checked and could easily match that price again if I wanted a similar car.

To Isell: One reason to find out the build date is to see if it preceeded price increases. There are some Mazda6s on lots that were built before a recent $300 price increase. I don't know if Honda had any price increases during the model year, but it would be good to know.

Thanks. I believe our sales tax is 8.75 here.

Sorry for the multiple posts... I only clicked once. Not sure what happened.

The manufactured date should be on the drivers door jam--sticker-- at least it is on my 04 coupe
  • randomthoughtsrandomthoughts Member Posts: 6
Since taxes cloud the bottom line somewhat, let me try this again without them...

04 EX AT with side bags for 20,595.

That includes destination but not license, doc, title or sales tax. I think Edmunds also shows a regional surcharge for Chicago but that's included in the $20,595.

Does that make it easier to determine if the price is good or could be better?
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
You are always going to have someone that tells you that you could have done better or that they got a better deal. As long as you are happy with the price and feel like you got a good deal then relax and enjoy your new car.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
I don't think it would make one twit of difference in a cars value if it were built in Jan or July.

Of course, there is no harm in knowing this.

I guess what is unimportant to most people is important to others. I've never been asked this before and I've sold a LOT of new Hondas. That's why I was curious.

Hopefully you'll get a car that you are pleased with.

I'm about to enter the market for an '04 Accord Coupe. want the 6-cyl and the 6-speed. Haven't been to any dealer yet (I'm in South Carolina) because I wanted to arm myself with pricing examples first.

So...who out there has gotten a killer deal on an Accord EX Coupe lately?

And while we're at it...anybody priced the TSX S?

    Thanks.
  • xxonxxon Member Posts: 13
It matters to me. Some manufacturing problems are caught early in the production cycle, and later models may not have them. By the way, I have heard that there may be a recall for the 5 speed auto transmissions on the 6 cyl models. Do you know if this will affect the 4 cylinder Accords? Is it the same transmission?

For those who are interested I have found a link that explains how to read the VIN.

Our limited experience in Chicago pricing that car suggests you have a good price. We eventually chose the Camry, but investigated the Accord pricing. The best we had (similarly equipped) was about $22k before tax. That was about a month ago.

    ntruroman,

I purchased from Honda Cars of Rock Hill, in Rock Hill, SC. No one else could touch the price they gave me for my '04 EX V6. All options I wanted to add were at dealer cost. In addition they treated me very well. If interested DEAL WITH THEIR INTERNET DEPARTMENT. Visit their internet site and go from there. IMHO anyone walking into any dealer from off the street is asking for a hassle.
  • chiguy1chiguy1 Member Posts: 14
To be clear, that was for a V6.

I am happy to announce that after doing my HW, and emailing different dealers in the Central FL area, I got my Accord, EX L with Navi- its AWESOME.
I highly recommend Classic Honda in Orlando. Their Internet Sales Dept was extremely professional.

Dealer in North Philly suburb of Roslyn - car manufactured in 8/04 - with 1.2 miles - by the time took delivery had 9 miles - Excellent dealer experience - nice car

I'm reading a lot of messages saying that people are getting rock bottom prices on Accords. Even though I have figured out what the dealers are paying for these cars, I'm getting no where near as good a price as I would like. I'm wondering if my market (Dallas) is a tight market or if I'm handling it all wrong. Are the markets that different?

Using e-mail, I have tried asking what price they can give me which is high then not getting any action when I give a counter offer. I also tried sending a rock bottom price hoping to negotiate up to a good deal. I'm starting to believe the lack of response means they don't need my business. Any comments?

    Thanks!

I just took delivery on Sat. of a new '04 Accord EX V6 from Right Honda in Scottsdale, AZ. Excellent experience; it was actually my second '04 EX V6 of the year - got one in April for my wife. I've been looking and looking and kept coming back to the Accord, particularly given the deals to be had.

    Anyway, the details:
    - Color - Black w/ tan interior
    - Mileage - 22
    - No navi
    - Price - $22,544
    - Tint (need in AZ) - $169
    - Pinstripe, mud flaps, door and wheel well guards - $229 (they call this their "Arizona package" and charge $1,475 for it on the sticker).
    - Rear-wing spoiler - $458.25 (that was retail, but oh well)
    - 6-year/100K mile/$0 deductible Honda Care - $1,200 (I got them to match the Warranty Direct price, which I was going to do)
    - Title/dealer doc - $290 (absolutely non-negotiable)
    - Also had tax of 8.1% and license fee of $461 (sucks in AZ)
    - Total OTD of just over $27K

Before I did the deal, I sent a personal e-mail to Internet dept. contacts at every Honda dealer in the area - there are 7 - specifying what I was looking for ($2,000 off invoice, incl. dest., as a starting point). 5 of them just said 'no' or were way ($1000+) high; the other one - Showcase - was within a few hundred, but could not beat it. Right Honda went to $1,700 off to start.

That's my story. If in the Phoenix area, buy from Right or Showcase.

I want to thank everyone in this forum for the great info which helped me decide on both the automobile to buy and how much to pay.

Last Friday I bought an 2004 Accord EX-L 2.4L Auto PZEV (no nav) for $21,086 + tax + dmv fees. It had 1.4 miles on it before test drive.

I did get quotes from the edmunds service but ended up buying it from Sierra Honda in Monrovia, after getting a tip from a salesman from another dealership that didnt have the color I wanted.

Now I am off to the accessories forum to find out which hitch to install so I can carry my mountain bike with me on my Honda!

    Thanks to all!

Hi all, just bought an Accord LX Coupe, V4, Automatic for:

    CASH PRICE: $ 17,221.21
    Sales Tax: 8.7500% $ 1,510.79 (Alameda County)
    Doc Fee: $ 45.00
    License Fee:$ 152.00 $ 15.00
    Calif. Tire Fee: $ 5.00
    Total of Payments: $ 18,949.00
    (No Financing)

At Stevens Creek Honda in San Jose.

I hope this was a fair deal.
All other Honda Dealerships were giving me quotes $100-$500 more.
What pushed me over the top was that they had my first color choice... Black. (Though I would have taken any color as long as the price was right.)

The Internet/Fleet team was friendly though they could be a little pushy. Price did not change after 1/2 an hour of me threatening to walk out the door. (This is 1/2 an hour more than it should have been since I wouldn't walk onto the lot without a fully disclosed OTD price in writing).

I used www.carbuyingtips.com for information and www.cars.com to get dealer quotes from within a 100 mile radius. Then simply took the lowest OTD price and e-mailed each dealership asking if they could beat it. My lowest quote was actually from Autowest Honda in Fremont (the same $18,949 OTD price). Stevens Creek was obviously willing to match (though they had sent me an e-mail saying they would beat any e-mail price by $100... they seemed to forget about this e-mail... hmmmm) Again, it just so happens that Stevens Creek had my color of choice, so I bought.

I didn't get the Honda Care warranty because I don't expect to own the car for 7 years/100,000 miles. I was surprised to hear you get your money back if you don't use the warranty at all for that period AND you can roll the warranty over when you sell the car (both these things tempted me but the normal warranty seemed reasonable to me).
I am thinking of getting low jack but I need to do more research on its effectiveness and if it will lower my insurance.

I'll update on service because the car had 3 paint chips that need to be detailed.

BTW... I like this car a lot. Reasonable power, reasonable features, and supposedly a reasonable depreciation value (though I'm sure a 4 door would do better). All things considered, I had an enjoyable car buying experience.

I picked up a satin silver metallic 2004 Accord EX-V6 this weekend at Wilde Honda in Milwaukee area. Decent experience.

    Vehicle $23,077
    Mud guards $98
Internet fee $89 (because I got an internet bid - sounds a little fishy but I knew about it from the beginning)
    TTL add'l

    Car drives great

xxon: All the Accord EX's I saw at the dealer's today were manufactured in the "A" plant (the letter 7 spaces from the end). The last six digits of the VIN numbers for seven different EX's (the digits that are supposed to indicate the order in which the car was manufactured) were so widely spaced I saw no pattern to them. The link you cited did not explain how to read the last six digits -- do you (or does anyone else) know?
  • rcc8179rcc8179 Member Posts: 131
The last six digits are basically the serial number of the car. They are numbered approximately in order of manufacture from 000001 to xxxxxx. I believe the numbers are for ALL Accord sedans or ALL coupes, not separated by EX, LX, DX trim lines.

By the way, when I was looking at the 2003s before I bought mine, one dealership whose lot I wandered around had several that were separated by only a couple numbers.
  • wellhallwellhall Member Posts: 20
Got an Accord EX L, 4 cyl, no accessories, no nav for $21,490 (plus a $20 fee for registering it), plus sales tax and DMV fees, in NYC. A real struggle to get it. michaelw (#5323) did better in LA, and he had to pay the extra $135 for PZEV! At least it was the color I wanted. Dealer said on Monday that the 2005's will be there in three weeks, so I guess the 2004's are going fast.
  • wellhallwellhall Member Posts: 20
The dealership I visited had numbers for 2004 EX's that ranged from 0123XX to 0860XX to 1421XX. (I doubt the last two digits are relevant if it really is in numerical order of manufacture.) It seemed odd that the dealer would have had one of the first 12,300 made this year (with such a low number, I presume the numbers start over each year, since the 10th character identifies the year) still on the lot next to one made almost 120,000 cars later.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,589
The first number in the VIN denotes country it was manufactured in.. If it is a -J-, it was made in Japan.. If it is a -1-, it was made in the U.S. There is only one factory in the US that assembles Accords, and that is in Marysville, OH.

If you look on the driver's door jamb, there is a label with month and year of manufacture.

You bought a great car at a favorable price.

Please note, however, that the discounts I've seen posted in this forum seem to show that the "sale-priced" '04s are selling for only about $1,200 $1,700 less than what the cars cost a year ago when buyers had a full year's use of their cars before they were one model year old.

I'd strongly suggest that if a current buyer doesn't find the color or model Accord he/she wants in a 2004, wait a week or 2 for a 2005. The '05 has some improvements over the '04, is new for a full year, will cost only about $1,500 more and will be worth more at trade-in or sale time because it's a model year newer........Richard

True enough. Driving away with a bargain is not an easy task with Honda.

Last night, we purchased an '04 EX 4 cyl, auto trans, with wheel locks and mud flaps (okay, so every dealer adds those to their cars, right) for 20,325. They sold seven cars while we were there (new buyers ring the bell and everybody cheers... do they do that everywhere?). We drove away about 10:45 pm and there were still customers inside buying cars. Our salesman said they sold 50 cars in the last two days. Nothing like the last day or two of the month in the car sales world, eh?

We did get the exact color we wanted plus, with the '04, we were able to take advantage of the 1.9% financing. That's cheap money.

It'll be interesting to see what incentives or price discounts will be available on the '05s... regardless though, we're happy. Beautiful car.

A reporter is looking for consumers who have traded in a paid-off older vehicle for a new(er) one. Did you trade in because of repair costs, or worries about reliability or safety? Was the peace of mind worth the cost (payments, depreciation)?

I used the Edmunds.com price quote service to get the price on Honda Civic EX sedan w/auto. I get a response from their Internet Fleet Manager. I replied via e-mail to see if they can do better and they responds by saying that they can't go lower. Since they gave a good price in the initial response, I call them and ask them if they have the car in blue.

He responds by asking me in a nasty tone of voice, "Did I say that we have it in stock?"

I ask him, "Why are you being so rude? Do you not want to sell the car?"

And he replies, "No, I don't want to sell you a car," and hangs up on me.

I call their Customre Service Person, and she was really apologetic and tells me that she will make sure that they will be reprimanded for their actions. Then I get a call from their manager who tells me that he can't sell me the car at the price they quoted because they don't have any EXs on the lot.

So I ask him, "You mean to tell me that you have no 2004 Civic EXs on stock?"

    He says "Yes, none."

I felt a bit suspicious so I ask my friend in the area to check the lot since I'm 100 miles away. My friend calls me and tells me that they have several in the lot.

I had a very good experience buying my sister's CR-V from them but this experience totally makes me unhappy. I plan to write to Honda Corp. to make sure these things don't happen to others.

    Hi all,

I just came back from a local honda dealership in my area and was quoted a price of 299.01 a month for 36 months - with 1066.00 out of pocket. Does this sound liike a good deal on a lease? Should I be paying less? Should I keep shopping?

Thanks for all your help in advance I appreciate it

I purchased an LX Accord 4cyl Auto with side airbags and all the appearance package like mud guards and door trims, in Maryland. The out the door price came to $18,777.95 I think that could have done better but I wanted a graphite pearl with side bags that not many dealers seemed to have. If you're interested in the specifics of the deal I'd be happy to share them with you. Just email me.
I would like to thank everyone on this board for sharing their experiences to educate the rest of us, especially Musicboy.

We are on a tight budget but we also have safety as a top priority. The Accord DX with the standard ABS and side-curtain airbags is the model we have chosen. Does anyone have experience buying one of these or have information about how much we should pay relative to the invoice price?

    Hi All:

___“Grand Honda” of Elmhurst here in the Chicagoland area has 04 - EX-L V6’s going for $22,695, EX-L I4’s for $20,895, EX’s w/ Auto for $19,400, and LX’s w/ Auto for $17,175 according to this Sunday’s Chicago Tribune - Transportation section. With the 05’s arriving, I would look for an 05 deal in a few months myself.

Just wanted to let y'all know about the price we paid for our Honda. It's not as good as some I see out there but I feel it's the best I could do in this market. I've got to wonder how some of you are getting deals that make it look as though the dealers are paying you to buy the car. We had no extra fees on our contract besides the standard $55 doc. fee. TTL and inspection.

I started with emails to about three dealers. My mistake here was not stating the price I wanted to pay. That got me nothing but high offers. It also was slow going. I finally made a low ball offer when the salesman where we took our test drive called. He said he would get back to me. Missed his call, he didn't leave a message, finally we went in. Had wanted to deal with everything online but it wasn't happening.

Paid $500 below invoice which I know is a manufacturer to dealer incentive so that was easy to get. We had wanted a total of $750 off invoice which I believe is just about $116 over dealer cost when the buy back is figured in. Instead we offered $500 off invoice and free window tinting which we wanted dealer installed anyway. We had been quoted $300 to $199 for this add on. This was accepted no problem. We got the added bonus of free car washes for life. It's a new dealership and this was their promo. We will see how good a deal this is after our first wash. Luckily they are just up the street from us.

Not a great deal but I don't see any posts from anyone in my area. Land of the gas guzzlers. I suspect the smaller cars are selling well here with the high gas prices of late.
  • aitchpee44aitchpee44 Member Posts: 16
So, what was your out-the-door price for the LX AT (no taxes should be mentioned) and what was the name of the dealership in the Dallas area? Was it in a suburb? Thanks boxie.
  • richards38richards38 Member Posts: 606
Be sure you buy the 2005 Accord DX, not an '04 because the side curtain airbags are standard on all Accords starting with the upcoming model.

The 2004 Accord DX does NOT have curtain airbags which were standard on EX-L 4s and EX V6s and optional on other EXs. LX and DX Accords didn't have curtain airbags available for the 2004 year.

Also, I think the DX lacks a rear stabilizer bar which means that it might not handle quite as well as an LX or EX. The LX is a better deal than the DX if you can afford it.

I bought my Accord EX-L 4 cyl. AT sedan in late August of '03, so it was one of the first '04s avaiable. I paid about 91.2% of the total MSRP before tax and license. The document fees were about $50. I think that was a good deal at the time because end of the year Accords now seem to be selling for about $1500 to $1800 less and they'll be a full year old when the '05s hit the streets.

The upcoming year is the 3rd in the Accord's 5 year cycle, so even though it's a popular car, the Accord will be readily available and I think should be discounted about 9% or more from the MSRP.....Richard

In over nine years, I think I've sold four of these. They are VERY slow sellers so if you can find one you should get a great deal.

Remember, they don't have A/C. You can add A/C to the car but then it's almost as much money as an LX.

Because they are slow sellers a lot of stores don't bother ordering any.

Folks, I am new to this forum. I am considering buying a 2003 EX V6 from an Acura dealer in the Chicagoland area. The car has 18000 miles on it, but has 23 months of warranty still left on it. Obviously it has been driven a bit more than average, but we are considering it because my wife and I typically drive less than 4000 miles a year. We were quoted an Internet price of $19995 (which is lower than the TMV on Edmunds and the KBB value - around $21000), and we got an agreement on $19250. With taxes, etc., the total cost is $21300. Am I making a mistake here? Should I be very bothered about the miles? Why do you think the Internet price was so much lower than the TMV? The car has a clean vehicle history and has had only one owner. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
You should be more worried they sell the car to someone else than about the miles which are nothing in that car's life.

That's a great price. Hopefully it's still there.

    Hi Surpass:

___Since you live in the Chicago area, “Grand Honda” of Elmhurst was advertising brand new 04 EX-L V6’s for $22,695 in this weekends Chicago Tribune - Transportation section. IIRC, the ad listed a sedan and said Automatic but I would call to find out if this is a real price. Grand Honda has been commented on in this forum in the past with positive comments so I would at least make the call before I purchased used.

___I don’t know but if it were me, the extra $3,400 for a one year newer Accord V6 w/ no miles and especially given it is leather equipped w/ dual zone auto climate and heated seats plus a full factory warranty instead of just half of one would make me balk at your $19,200 price for the used Accord.

    ___Good Luck

I just put a deposit down on an Accord Ex-L. I need to pick it up tomorrow, but would like to check first what folks have paid for the car. The out the door price was $22,500 at Koons Honda in Mannasses Virginia. Any comments on this? Has anyone else had better luck ?
