As we both know, there is a big difference from getting a low low quote, and actually purchasing a Car. With that said, when are you getting your GLS or LX :P
My guess is backy just bought a pre-owned Mazda 626 LX for his wife.
miamixt, I am not an expert on Web protocol, but IMO :P is not a "friendly" symbol.
P.S. I love my two Elantras. I am just sad I need to sell one of them. It's been a great car for almost 6 years, but my son wants the 626 because it's got leather and alloys and is more of a "chick magnet" (his words). But the good news is, since my wife got the minivan now, I get her '04 Elantra GT hatchback!
You did quite well. An equivalent 2006 Sonata LX goes for $19,292 at Fitzgerald Auto Mall in Gaithersburg, Md.
Been reading this forum for a few weeks and decided to post my Sonata buying experience thus far.
I am employing the "fax attack" strategy this week from fightingchance.com. I am in the Phoenix area and have faxed 14 of the 15 Hyundai dealers in AZ. About half have responded. I am looking for GLS V6 with option pkg 5 (sunroof, power drivers seat, etc.). Not into LX as not into leather in general, plus I live in AZ and I think leather generates too much heat in the sun. Suprisingly, many of the dealers I spoke with claim the LX sells well here.
Anyway, GLS V6 with pkg 5 invoice is $21,213. So far the best quote I have is $1500 below invoice price, $19,713, before rebates. The best rate I can get outside of Hyundai is 6.59%, so probably will go with Hyundai's 2.9% + $1000 rebate offer. I did the math and it's better than taking the $2000 with the higher APR. I also qualify for college grad rebate. I may trade in my old 96 Pontiac Grand AM as well, perhaps $600-800 so I figure the OTD will be under $20K, maybe $19,660 or so. Tomorrow (Wed) I will call all of them and see if any of the others will lower their price to earn my business.
Under $20K for this vehicle sure beats the heck out of Camry, Accord, Altima or whatever. Just hope the depreciation doesn't bite me in the back end in 5-8 years.
My wife and I are kind of divided on the leather, we'll see how bad it gets in the summer. They didn't seem all too bad so far in around 80-90 degree heat so far and the AC seems to work very, very well.
Which dealer in Houston gave you that deal? Also, does "out the door" include TTL?
Thanks.
I like the show, but I cringe when people are negotiating this way.
OTD price includes TTL? how does it work? I bought a sonata several days ago with OTD price which I negociated before I went in to buy it, and I was told by the dealer that they will mail all the documents to me in 3 weeks and then I will need to take the document to a tag agency to pay the TTL by myself.
Thanks!
$1000 HFMC
$1000 Loyalty
$400 graduate
$1500 below invoice, GLS V6 option pkg 5, plus alarm system. OTD $20,621. Second lowest quote I got was well over $21K for same vehicle. Most others were above $22K. Felt I got a good deal for this area (AZ).
They would have negotiated similar price on LX but didn't want leather seats. Also, the one I bought has sunroof and standard LX doesn't have sunroof.
Qualified for 6.5% financing, but plan to flip the loan to my credit union at 6.25% in about 3-4 weeks after loan is processed. Could have done credit union finance initially but of course would have lost the $1000 rebate.
This vehicle is such a steal on the market. It's still hard to believe why people spend thousands more for same or even worse vehicle (less features).
Thanks.
I got a quote of $16,500 plus tax, license, tire, and doc fee on this car. Its pretty good.
I also asked for a breakdown of fees, and verification of the rebates. One insisted that there was $3,000 in rebates from what I posted previously - the ones I qualify for. But I know there is only a $2,000 rebate -so you know the price may not be so good.
5 dealers in the Seattle area quoted from $20,550 - 20,640 after the $2,000 rebate.
Bought a Silver one for my sister after she looked at the 2006.5 Kia EX. She liked Sonata better and it was ~$2,000 cheaper than the Kia.
She will keep the car for 10-12 years so resale is not a big consideration.
I think the Hyundai's are more money on the West Coast also.
MSRP $23,145
Invoice $21,945
Cash price $20,445 ($1500 below invoice)
Sales tax $1438.63, 7.8% (In AZ sales tax is based on location of purchase - this is not the same in all states)
Tire tax $5.00
Tags, docs, etc. $933.98
Rebates - $3000 ($2000 GLS V6 manufacturer, $1000 dealer)
Alarm $799
OTD - $20,621.61
If I understood my options correctly, I had the choices of:
A) taking the $1000 manufacturer rebate and Hyundai financing of 2.9% ($1000 total rebates)
C) taking the $2000 manufacturer rebate and financing on my own ($2000 total rebates)
I choose B, then I could make full use of the rebates offered me in the negotiation, and still flip the loan at my credit union for a lower rate of 6.25%. The 2.9% financing did not make up the difference of the extra cash offered me in rebates.
Hope this helps. I'd be real surprised if someone got a significantly better deal on this same exact car. If I'd have negotiated on a regular base GLS V6, I'd probably be under $19K OTD. I didn't check prices in my area on 4-cylinder engines. Wasn't interested in that engine configuration for that size of car.
I believe all Sonatas do come with alarms but this particular dealer installed a higher grade alarm system on most of their vehicles. I'm sure they make money on this, but with the price they were offering me, I wasn't complaining. They also offered me some kind of rust/paint protection nonsense which I promptly declined. Also window tint for an extra $300 I think. Also declined.
Went back to the dealer the next day (Friday) to get the speed sensor auto lock enabled. The service dept. said this costs money and is not covered by warranty. He asked if sales dept. was paying for this. I gave him my sales manager's name, service guy called him, within a few minutes I was out the door with the auto lock set at 12 mph. When I get the CSI survey in my email, gonna give good marks to this dealership.
I understand the $2,000 factory rebate, but what is the $1,000 rebate you mentioned. Is this the military rebate/owner's loyalty rebate, or was this the finance rebate.
I have two dealers insisting that the rebates total $3,000 for the GLS V-6 ($2,000 manufacturer's plus $1,000 finance rebate).
Thanks.
I started looking in Feb., no extra rebate in March or April. But, O'Brien Hyundai in Naples FL gave me a great price and made it worthwhile to fly there to get the car & drive it back to CT.
As I recall, the rebates on the '05 Sonata dried up in July or so. If my recollection is correct, they either sold out all the '05's or were relying on the price difference to the new model to eliminate rebates on the old model.
What will happen to rebates amounts, we never know...and the dealers won't tell you in advance.
1) a $799 Alarm? Is it a Lo jack, otherwise you got hijacked!
2) Arizona Tax, yikes!
3) Arizona Tag, doc fees. You paid $934, I paid $60 in Florida. And in Arizona each year you will pay about $600 to re register the Car (based on Value, California used to do that). Here in Florida $34 per year.
4) Rebates. Your rebates don't make sense, as it's an either/or when it it comes to the $2000 Rebate, and the $1000 Financing rebate. The Hyundai website says "and/or" which is also confusing. Yet I have no reason to doubt you.

Enjoy your Car, the Sonata is spectacular!
Comparing prices and offers is informative. But when someone has already made a purchase, what is one to say? I've seen what I consider to be very good deals and some deals where the buyer got hosed but thinks he/she got a good deal. What does one say to the person who just over paid by $1500 to $2,000, or thinks OTD means the money paid to the dealer before fees & taxes paid to the state?
After the fact, it's difficult to tell someone who just bught a new car that they overpaid, especially when they think they got a great deal.
Hyundai will do "price adjustments" on the 2007 according to an article I read. They make some base prices cheaper or make some options cost less. But rebates will not be available immediately. They should be available towards the end of summer on the 2007s. This mid size market is just too competitive right now for manufactures to maintain high prices (ie at MSRP or above) for a long period of time.
Got quote of %16,500 plus ttl on 2006 GLS V6
$17,300 plus ttl on 2006 GLS V6 with sunroof.
(only includes 2 rebates - $2,000 manufac. and $1,000 finance rebate). As my previous posts indicate, perhaps not necessarily on this specific thread, I could not verify the finance rebate.
Rebates are down by $500 this month from last since we lost $500 on the Owner Loyalty.
Targeting this vehicle at $18000 after rebates but before TTL
Is this possible?
MSRP $23095
Doc prep $45
Sales tax $1522.10 (7.875% in N. Cali)
Lic/Reg $198.72
Total before rebates $24860.82
Dealer disc -$3500
Rebate -$1000 V6
-$1000 HFMC finn @6.25%
Total OTD $19360.82
Not too shabby for being in N. Cali.
I got this great price because the dealer had an overspray incident caused by the construction of a new dealership on an adjacent lot. All vehicles affected (minor if @ all) had to marked as such w/full disclosure per Ca state law. The dealer had all vehicles completely detailed and as a result you would never even have known unless you were told! I purchased on 3/31/06 so the manfctr rebates were a little different. I didn't own another Hyundai, otherwise I would have got another $1000 off making my OTD price $18360.82!!! Darn, maybe next time. Can I just say I LOVE THIS CAR and knowing I got an AWSOME deal makes it that much better. Good luck all!!!
