Well, that may not be true. It depends on the true rate of money supply inflation, which affects prices of assets.
If the dollar is losing value at a fast enough rate, you can pay back your car loan with future dollars that are worth much less than what dollars were worth at the time of purchase. In that case, you may come out ahead by buying your car on credit, particularly if you convert your unspent dollars to something which is not losing value.
If the value loss of dollars was very fast, you might even find that the price of your used car increases as time goes on, even though its real value is depreciating. A rising price on a used car does not mean the car is becoming more valuable (appreciating), it just means the dollar is quickly becoming worth less (worthless).
The real #1 rule of finance is never save your money in a form which is losing value faster than your paycheck is increasing.
Plenty of forums here for general finance questions.. This board is for Hyundai Sonata: Prices Paid & Buying Experience only..

Don't even go to a dealer until you are ready to buy having received a best quote on the exact vehicle (color, options) from all the dealers in the area.
Use the fax or internet to contact the internet salses manager. Some won't quote but who cares. You should get 40-50% response.
Read this and other forums for help.
The quote my dealer gave me is $17,995 and they will give me $500 and $400 rebates so it will be around $17,195

I have given this more thought. Go ahead and purchase your GL, no need to review all 2000 posts, or even take the drive to Miami to save an additional 10-15%. You'll love the Car!. Just keep in mind that some of us driving the GLS V6 or LX with most or all options paid about the same as your GL
Backy please, if someone said they bought a Brand new Sonata with 58 miles on it, why doubt them?. My Brand new LX came with an amazing 110 miles on it. Was I thrilled about that fact, no. However the price, absolutely unbeatable, and the drive is thrilling!
At this point, the best price (before rebates, tax, title) I have received from a dealer is $19,995. I've seen other postings from other parts of the country that appear to indicate a better deal is possible. Any thoughts/guidance to the KY region?
Also, is there any info available on the updates for the 2007 Sonata? Are there changes worth waiting for instead of buying the 2006 model?
I appreciate any information.
50 miles). My wife could get many choices in the lot, but no Whitle available at that time.
i am in the market for an LX in NJ/NY. At which dealer did you purchase your sonata?

Wait, let me put my Karnak hat on first... I have no idea how your car was treated prior to your purchase. Which is why I like to buy cars with as few miles on them as possible--who knows how they were treated? I was livid when I found out that my '04 Elantra had been an auto show car for HMA for a few months, and the sales rep and sales manager had neglected to tell me that little fact. Well, I got some compensation for that in the end. All I am saying is, if a car has any miles on it, there should be some kind of compensation. If you got a fantastic deal, maybe part of that is because of the miles on the car and that's good compensation.
My car came in to the FL dealership on a Monday while I was on the phone (in CT) with the salesman, literally still on the truck. I picked it up the following Wednesday and the odo showed 8 miles...6.8 mi on the trip odo.
I don't think the electronic odometers can legally be set "below zero" as manufacturers used to do years ago with mechanical odometers.
A few miles may even be a part of dealer prep (which wouldn't have shown on the odo 15 or 20 yrs ago). Any way, with Hyundai's warranty for "new" cars, a few miles shouldn't be a concern.
So this is not some sky-is-falling issue, but given the choice between a car with 2 miles or 50 miles, for the same price, I'll take the one with 2 miles.
NY is offering a $500 auto show rebate + $2k Mfg rebate.
The Deal: OTD $19,929
Negotiated price: $17,995
Taxes: $ 1,716.50
DMV/Fees: $ 217.50
$19,929
No option Package or other add ons.
The car does good for my family of four. Hope the car can hold up to NY stop and go. Really like the shiftronic Tran. I was fortunate, car only had 8mi on ODO :shades:
I'm happy with car choice and deal, family loves it.
I know this seems ludicrous to think you could make money by buying new and selling used, but its not. I've worked at dealerships and their not on top of everything. It wouldn't surprise me if a Honda dealer had no idea you could by a new one so cheap. Plus they could probably sell it anyways. A lot of car buyers look at only used, and never realize they can buy new for less money. If I lived in a zero tax state, I'd probably buy one and try selling it in the open market. My money says if you buy a GLS V6 for under 16K, you'd make money on it.
Carsdirect has them at invoice less the $2000 rebate equaling $18,331 with no options selected.
The DMV fees covered two years and the dealer (Hyundai of Manhattan) charged no Doc Fee. There was a $50 DMV processing fee which in my estimation is similar to the doc fee. As a new driver, they processed all of my DMV paperwork at the dealership. I think they have a separate unit that does this exclusively.
$16,995
CarCost's report is useful as far as it goes (lists invoice price and customer incentives) but nothing on dealer incentives. 5 reports for the price is pretty OK. Didn't appreciate their allowing their selected dealer to sneak in a "security package" for $399; it sounded like an offer but the dealer tried to include it as part of the cost. However, they backed off when I disagreed.
I also had no problems with my Door handles & Cup holder, however those were part of my 3 recalls. The Sonata seems like the perfect Car, get one today!
BTW, I didn't want all the LX features like sun roof, leather seats, etc.
Next stop : after-market front grille shopping :-)
Not good, even though you bought a great car. Putting a deposit down, and signing a sales order in advance, especially when you are committed to only one Color and Trim, eliminated any chance for that good deal :confuse:
I paid $2500 less, and have all available options. If I decide to sell when Oil reaches $120 a barrel, the resale value of my LX + will possibly fetch an additional $2000.
