Miamixt, you got an awesome deal. You paid less than $17,500. If others are envious or jealous, that's just tough.
    Great buying!

Nothing wrong in calling a spade a spade. And in your case, that spade is LESS THAN $17,500.

    WOW!
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
I like the way you reported your price: MSRP less any identified rebates and dealer discount. Although you didn't list dealer discount it is clear that it was $1995 including any dealer add-ons that may show on the sales contract. If $19,500 before tax and any other state fees was the price, it doesn't matter if the doc. fee (which is paid to the dealer) was $29 or $500. $19,500 would be the price paid to the dealer. State taxes and fees are what vary depending on each state.

Trade-in allowances also muddy the prices some people report. If I trade in a '92 Taurus and you trade in a 2001 Accord, the figures are meaningless for comparison purposes, regardless of whether one of us feels we got a generous allowance or a low ball.

What is the price that the dealer keeps of the new car? I think that is what is helpful in giving others an idea of the current car market for a particular make & model.

OTD is a marketing tool dealers use to offer a comparision to a local buyer in a local market to show the price includes all state fees in addition to dealer's total price. It is meaningful to buyers in the same market.

Good to see you again!. As you know Joe, I have tried to explain my transaction, and as simply as possible. Along with my paperwork & 3 purchase orders I obtained over an 11 day period is the final transaction on audio tape. One day when I have nothing better to do I might listen to it. I hardly slept the previous night, rehearsing what I was going to say (yell) at them, and was concerned that I would need to return the vehicle, or pay an extra $1000 as my financing kicked. Let's just say I had a great morning with the new Sales Manager on that final day of the Month :)

Why buy the 4 cyl, when you can buy the GLS V-6 for about the same price or cheaper!!!The 4 cyl. has a$1000 rebate, the 6 has a $2500 rebate.
  • bfridellbfridell Member Posts: 10
I bought mine in the Seattle area $2495 dealer discount less rebates,GLS V-6 $21495 MSRP.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
So your purchase price was $16,500 paid to the dealer plus tax and any other fees paid to the state? No doc. fees or other dealer add-ons. That's a great price.
  • bfridellbfridell Member Posts: 10
I also got the $500 owner loyalty rebate, so it was $16000 plus tax and Lic.and transfer fees. in King county in the state of Washington.

Because I want the better gas mileage... bottom line. The V6 is a nice car but the lower gas mileage is a negative in my opinion. (Check the other forums to see what folks are getting with their V6s -- not bad, but the 4 cyl should do better).

Well, I admit I am jealous of your excellent deal. Instead of bisparaging you, I congratulate you! :)

Finally did it, purchased the LX base trim with no opiton. $18300 (no dealer or doc fees at all) before tax & registration............very happy with the deal. Been looking around and this the best deal available in my neck of the neigborhood (south jersey and philly area).

In reply to backy's post #2058, I spoke with my dealer again about the Hyundai extended warranty plan. Their interpretation of the Hyundai plan is that it's a "wraparound" plan and the 10 year /100,000 mile powertrain coverage does NOT transfer to the subsequent owner. That's because the extended plan does not cover the powertrain in the first place. The original warranty covers the powertrain.

If my dealer is correct then the Hyundai website is very misleading. If my dealer is wrong then they are fools for insisting that the website is incorrect.

Anyway, most important is to read the contract before signing and paying for any extended warranty/service contract.

I have been following this board for a while now and wanted to share the information I have received from local dealers in San Antonio Texas. Average price for 2006 Sonata GLS V6 with AT (17,945.00 plus TT&L) and for the Sonata GLS V4 with AT 18,867.00 plus TT&L. Granted they have hail damaged ones for 16,500 but no interest in buying a car that needs to be fixed to keep warranty valid. And here I thought Honda was suppose to have the higher prices but I can get a similarly equipped V4 Accord for the price of the 4 cylinder Sonata. I do a lot of in town driving so the gas mileage is very important and prefer the 4 cylinder as based on what I've read here and on their boards there is a noticeable difference between the two. Would be curious to hear from anyone who has purchased a Sonata recently in the San Antonio area and their buying experience.

I have bought two new Hyundais. Each time, I discussed the Hyundai extended warranty with the finance person. Each time, they assured me that the extended warranty transfers to the 2nd owner--that was one of the key selling points in fact. You might ask the dealer to show you the warranty contract, and point out the language that states that only the non-powertrain part of the warranty is transferrable. Or you could call Hyundai Customer Service and see what they say about it.

I agree with you that if the dealer you talked to is correct, the web site is very misleading. Here are some quotes from it:

For starters, both Hyundai Protection Plans cover just about every part and component on your Hyundai (more than 14,000 parts and components, to be exact).

Call me picky, but I don't think that excluding the powertrain is consistent with "just about every part and component on your Hyundai".

To enhance the resale value of your Hyundai, you (the original purchaser) can transfer the Hyundai Protection Plan to one subsequent purchaser.

Note that it doesn't say, "you can transfer only the non-powertrain part of the Protection Plan to one subsequent purchaser."

I am currently collecting price quotes from dealerships, and so far I have one reply. 19,110.06 (before rebates and without TTL) for the Base GLS V6 (1200 extra for the Sports Pacakge: 17in wheels, sunroof, rear view mirror autodimmer, power front seat). I'd qualify for the $2500 rebate and a $400 education rebate (just graduated). So total for me would be 16,210 for the base, and 17,410 with the options. Is this a descent price? Im still waiting for the other two dealerships to give me their best offer, and then go back in forth for awhile. Still have two weeks to haggle, looking to buy on Memorial Day weekend.

    Hey uthscsa19,

Bought mine in April...new GLS-V6 w/ Sport package I got it for $20,213 before rebates. Invoice is $21,350 and MSRP is $23,145. So $1137 under invoice and $2932 under MSRP...before rebates.

My rebate choice in April was $1000 and 2.9% 5 yrs. So $19,213 at 2.9%.

No trade in, April 26th, Cincinnati area (Northern KY, Alexandria for the dealer).

Sounds like your deal is just a bit higher than when I bought in April, but only by $100. Plus your rebates are much better now. From what I've seen on the boards it sounds like a good deal to me.

Bought my GLS V-6 05/06/06 in the Seattle area.MSRP $21495, less dealer discount $2495, less $2500 rebate, less $500 owner loyalty rebate, so price was $16000 plus tax and lic. That was the best price I could find in the whole Seattle area.
  • bobadbobad Member Posts: 1,587
Excellent price! I got mine for ~16,500+ TT&L
  • alamocityalamocity Member Posts: 680
Which dealership gave you that price quote as I too am looking to buy this month.

I need the feedbackof this forum. I am looking to buy a 2005 Sonata. The reason for the 2005 is I hate to pay the first year depreciation for any vehicle. I am sure people have varying view on this. My question is what should I pay for a 2005 Sonata? I am being quoted 12,500. This vehicle has 17K miles, automatic transmission, above good condition and power sun roof. Any suggestions on what should be a reasonable cost for this vehicle in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.

    Thanks

What trim level is the car you're looking at? There's the GL, GLS, GLS SV & LX. There are significant differences in equipment depending on the trim level.

The GLS SV isn't listed on KBB or NADA, but it is essentially an LX minus leather and power driver seat. It's price should be somewhere between the GLS & LX.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
A thought... I recently saw a 2006 Sonata LX (V6, leather) with low miles advertised in the StarTribune for $11,900. That is shockingly low so I wonder if anything is wrong with it, but what it points out is that there have been 2006 Sonatas around for a year now (including I4s made in Korea), so if you want to save the 1st year depreciation you don't have to stick with the 2005, which is literally a generation behind the 2006.
  • vkgvkg Member Posts: 3
It is a GL with power sun roof.

    Thanks

i want to purchase a new gls V6 or LX, base models. the dealers i spoke with cannot,or will not come close to the prices that i have read on this forum. anyone have dealer experience in the chicago area suburbs, that can mirror some of the prices on this website? thanks
  • jgoldmanjgoldman Member Posts: 4
I believe the $400 education rebate is only if you go through Hyandai finacing. Since Hyandai interest rates will probably be significantly higher than what you can get off the internet or from a credit union, I would consider the total w/o the $400 rebate.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
What a buyer needs to looked at is 1)amount financed, 2) length of loan & 3) comparison of interest rates.

A higher interest rate, after considering the $400 price discount, could still be a lower net cost to the buyer.

Some months Hyundai was offering an additional discount of $1,000 for those financing their purchase through HMFC. Many financed their purchase with HMFC and then either paid it off (if they had to cash) or refinanced with their local bank or credit union. Those buyers came out hundred of dollars ahead compared to financing elsewhere at the time of purchase (or paying cash).

    A $15,000 loan @ 9% for 60 months has a monthly payment of $311.38. The first month's interest is $112.50.

    A $15,000 loan @ 6% for 60 months has a monthly payment of $289.99. The first month's interest is $75.00.

So, if a buyer can refinance in a month, the additional interest he would pay in the above examples is only $37.50. That would still make the $400 discount worthwhile.
  • jgoldmanjgoldman Member Posts: 4
Notwithstanding your examples (which I agree completely with the numbers), you make it seem very easy to refinance. It's not. Even for those internet companies where it is relatively easy, the refinacing rate is at least a point higher. One point over 60 months is worth over $400 and you have to deal with that extra paperwork and any extra fees. (Even at 48 months, the point is worth pretty close to $400) You'll be better off saving the one point of interest to begin with. It only makes sense to take the $400 if you can (and are willing to) pay off the loan very very quickly or you can't get a loan more than 1% off the non competive Hyandai finacing.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
I bought my car a year ago so refinancing was not an issue for me.

Other reported that they arranged alternative financing, explaining the details, before before buying the car and financing through Hyundai. I also thought the refi would carry a higher rate, but these buyers reported that they qualified for a new car rate due to the newness of the car at the time.

If you're in the market now, check it out. Maybe it won't work, but maybe you'll save over $350. Good luck.

Elgin Hyundai had a quote of $17.2K (after $2500 rebate) for the GLS V6 with sunroof.

    SELLING PRICE: $19,900
    GLS V6 REBATE: ($2500)
    OWNER LOYALTY REBATE: ($500)
    FINAL SELLING PRICE: $16,900 :D
  • heehawheehaw Member Posts: 8
Q: What model did you buy and what was the price? thanks much.
  • rj123456rj123456 Member Posts: 140
Sunnyvale Hyundai is advertising the LX V6 for 17,900 (I presume this includes the $500 owner loyalty rebate) and doesn't have any option packages.

So without the owner loyalty rebate, it's $18,400 - is this a good price?
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
It's about what you could get an Accord LX I4 or maybe a Camry CE, no options, for on a real good day.

It's $661 below invoice, before rebate. Not the absolute best deal ever posted here, but IMO a good deal. You could always try to see if there is any wiggle room before pulling the trigger. Month-end is coming up. :)

I bought 07 Sonata GLS w/XM with premium pakcage in powder white pearl color. MSRP was 20030. After dealing with couple of dealers, I got car for $14758 + Tax + DMV + $55 doc fee after $2500 + $500 HFMC rebate. I am in sacramento area.

After driving for three days, I am really happy with car. Nice features at much better price compared to Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.

    On a GLS V6 (option 1): $18,831, less a $2,500 rebate (i.e. $16,331)

Wondering if there may be others in the area who have made a recent purchase or have received similar quotes, to compare.

Was also concerned about an earlier post (#2122 Prices For Hyundai Sonata by alamocity May 17, 2006 (3:01 pm)) about hail damaged vehicles selling for $16,500, Is there a possibility that they could surface in NJ (!)
  • alamocityalamocity Member Posts: 680
Now to be fair about my hail damage post it was clearly stated up front at the dealerships that the vehicles had been damaged during a recent hail storm so don't think you'd have to worry about being deceived.
  • jeffy2jeffy2 Member Posts: 7
I have watched for 5 months... seems like the best I can do is around 18,500 AFTER the 2,500 in rebates for a 2006 GLS V6 with NO options... Even though about buying in CA and shipping out... Thanks for the help...was hoping to get it done by end of May...
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Anyway to get a good price in Hawaii?

That is a totally different market than the mainland. Literally an island without much competition. For example, you can't drive 250 miles to get a better deal. The price you pay to live in Paradise. :)
  • frugal2frugal2 Member Posts: 1
Finally got everything under control, and purchased my Sonata on Monday night.

    Details:

    MSRP - $24995

After incentives, rebates (loyalty included), and dealer discounts, price before tax, title, license was $18750.

Let me tell you all... it was a fight to get them to this number. The internet seriously was my friend...
  • jeffy2jeffy2 Member Posts: 7
Thats why I may try Oakland dealers or even Seattle.... and ship it to hawaii...looks like that may be cheaper than buying locally

"Let me tell you all... it was a fight to get them to this number. The internet seriously was my friend..."

Thank your internet friends here at Edmunds!. Great price. That's exactly the price I claim to have paid including package 5, tax, title, & license. My fight took two sessions. Was it worth it :):):)

What was the name of the dealership in NJ that gave you that price? Where are they located? Did you begin with their internet depratment? Thanks for any info.

I'm new, and maybe I'm overlooking something, but where are these good deals? I'm trying to buy an '06 Sonata LX right now, and could use a deal like this.

I'm in Tyler, TX, 100 mi. east of Dallas. Will drive to Houston, Ft. Worth, or Shreveport if need be.

Thanks. My best deal so far is 20,750 (before rebates) on the base LX that stickers for 23,495.

    Thanks... share the good fortune!

    Sunnyvale where?
  • lakegrl28lakegrl28 Member Posts: 2
Hey, I'm considering trading my 2002 Tahoe for the 2006 GLS V6. Test drove overnight, nice car but big change. How do you like yours and have you had any problems with it? I thought it could use more headroom but guess I can get used to it.

Also are people saying that the extended warranty is none transferable in the state of Florida? My salesman said it would be in and I live in Panama City.
  • lakegrl28lakegrl28 Member Posts: 2
I was wondering if anyone has purchased a Sonata either LX or GLS V6 in Florida. If so, what kind of deal did you get and where?
  • averigejoeaverigejoe Member Posts: 559
So, you say 23,495 MSRP. Dealer asking for 20,750.

What final written offer did you make before walking out?
  • miamixtmiamixt Member Posts: 600
I have bought two Hyundai's in South Florida. Do a search here and it will bring up some Florida deals. There is one poster from Florida that got a great deal on a loaded LX :)
