I am looking for the price for Sonata GL I4 with ABS in Ottawa, Ontario Canada. The MSRP is (cdn)$24,695. Does anyone know what the good price I can get in Ontario Canada? Any comments are appreciated.

After scouring all messages and printing out best prices, I finally bought LX in Paramus, NJ. After about an hour, finally settled on $20,800 minus $2500 rebate=$18,300.
Plus tax and $229 in MV fees. Also gave me
$10,500 for 2002 Camry. Im done! As best as I could determine, the lowest possible price to start negotiating from was $18,642, so Im pleased with this. Those claiming to get it for $17,500...I question the validity.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Congratulations! Keep in mind some people might qualify for rebates that you don't, e.g. someone who is in the military plus owns a Hyundai would get another $1000 off.
  • miamixtmiamixt Member Posts: 600
Pardon me, I Claim the $18,642 ($18.7) for a fully loaded LX. You started at that price, I finished there :).
Your deal took about an hour. Mine took about 6 over two days. Who did more dealing?. We all know prices are higher in NJ anyway. You did however buy a great car, enjoy!

    pt,

this was from maxon hyundai on route 22 in union. Turned out there were other fees like dealer documentation and a $30 gas fee(!!). Have better places to go to. Not interested anymore :-)

Just closed on my new Sonata LX with a spoiler for $17,300 + TTL..... $20,000 OTD! I had the $500 buyer loyalty rebate, but has anyone even got close to this deal in and around the Arizona area? Let me know. :D
  • miamixtmiamixt Member Posts: 600
Great price on the LX!. Any options aside from the spoiler?. Does it light up?. What were they asking for that alone?. It's not fair that you will need to pay Arizona all those big bucks each year to re-register the Sonata based on its value. Plan on $600-$700 on a $25K Car. Here in Florida it's thirty five dollars!

Here's what I came up with in my search. price reflects rebate of $2500.00 (V6) and $1000.00 on (V4) all auto
    GLS V6: $17945.00 Out the door $19,316.56
    LX V6: $17,833.00 Out the door $19,197.56
    GL V4: $17,515.00 Out the door $18,859.66
    GLS V4: $17,999.00 Out the door 19,375.93
Initial contact with dealerships showed lower prices but the add on charges were ridiculous so needless to say I walked away. Will say that both the Honda and Toyota dealerships give up front and honest responses to internet price quotes, the Hyundai dealers want you to come in and talk to various people before getting a quote.

I purchased my '06 Sonata GL in August of '05, so hope it isn't too out of date to be helpful. I paid 15,500.00+TTL at Power Hyundai in Torrance, CA. (that reflects 2k worth of incentives, and then some discounting from the dealer)
I have been quite happy with the car- I now have 10k+ miles on it.

I got an offer for Sonata GLS 4-cyl leasing in following term:

    - $2000 money down
    - 30 months lease with 12000miles per year

    $225/month (including everything)

Is this a good deal or should I look for the better one?
  • randydawrandydaw Member Posts: 20
Bought it today. Freeman Hyundai in Irving, salesman said he could do this until further notice - they were trying to calm down the competition a bit. This was almost $1000 less than my 2nd lowest bid after a week of serious searching.
They also gave top dollar on my trade of an '03 Durango. Freeman has lots of Sonatas right now. All of us who were in there were buying, and all were impressed with the straightforward, bottom dollar deals we were getting.
    :D:D:D:D:D

forgot to mention I DID get the owner loyalty discount of $500, so this is probably not a world record or anything.
  • alamocityalamocity Member Posts: 680
Bit off topic here but I went to their website and saw the price for a GLS of $15,888.00, sure beats the prices they are quoting here in San Antonio. Hopefully they don't try to tack on bogus fees like they try to do here. I may end up having to drive up to Irving for that price.
  • randydawrandydaw Member Posts: 20
Yes, that's a legitimate price and I'm not even sure if it's the very best you can do. I'd suggest making your best deal at another place based on their ad, and then calling and asking Freeman to beat it.
When I called, it was legitimately to tell them thanks for their offer, but I was doing business closer to home. The salesperson asked what it would take to get me to leave the table at the other dealership and drive to see him. I told him $1000, he said he'd try, and when I got there he actually beat my previous deal by a little over $800 - on the first offer. I might have been able to get the other $200, but it was so close to closing time that I didn't want to drive the 120 mi round trip again today to get the car.
Freeman is now in "no one is taking our business if we can help it" mode.

Oh and one more thing... there were no bogus fees, no pinstripes or coatings, and no pressure to buy extended warranties at closing (I had to ask to see the price sheet, which was very reasonable for wrap-around coverage).

The final price given by the salesman was EXACTLY the price at the finance office.

    Good luck! :)

For 1400 over the ad price on the GLS you could get an LX with:

:) leather all around - very nice feel to it,
:) better touches and decor on the dash and console,
:) an improved climate control system,
:) 17" alloy wheels (16" in the GLS), and
    (most important to me:)
:) steering wheel with telescope as well as tilt.
I "sit" 6'4" so headroom was a problem even without a sunroof. With the telescope steering, I can lean back much more comfortably, with much better visibility, without reaching with my (shorter than average) arms for the wheel.

I am anatomically a bit weird with short arms and legs, so this might not matter to you, but telescope is only available in the LX trim.

The saleman invited me to send others for the same deal, so I'm taking him at his word....

Thanks for the information, if the local dealers can't match my offer then I will call the dealership to see what they can do. Here they try to add on all the extra's that you mentioned in addition to VIN etching (395.00) which I want no part of.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
Stick to your guns. The dealership is trying to assume the superior position in the negotiations.

If you don't want pin striping tell them you won't pay for it, whether or not the car they want to sell you has it. Window etching, the same thing--only worse. At least pin striping may make the car look better. Window etching does diddly-suat. Both are unnecesary and just HUGE profit margins for the dealer.

$395 for window etching? It doesn't cost them $50 to do it (labor included). If window etching were so valuable why doesn't the manufacruter do it like they do with most (or all?) outer panels of the car?

Which dealership did you go to? We also saw cars (Subarus) with overspray.

Has anyone traded a car at Fitzmall in Gaithersburg, MD? Was thinking of getting Sonata there but wanted to trade my current car. IF anyone has, how did u feel they paid for trades, (they told me they use black book, blue book and manheim,) in realtionship to what these sources say.
  • tommyc2tommyc2 Member Posts: 9
I must be in a bad area to buy a Sonata, I have heard of dealers adding on high profit things like pinstripes etching, thats bad , but have come across 2 dealers that just change MSRP of 21495 which is standard GLS V6 to 22790(1295 mark up) and another dealer 22990(1495 mark up), I ask what for, they say dealer mark up. What kind of scam is that? So they then say we can take 2000 off but in my eyes thats only like 500 off. Anybody else come across this ?
  • boltguyboltguy Member Posts: 94
I've been to Fitzmall a few times, and they will give you a solid price on a new car, but I have no idea about a trade in. Why not sell it yourself? It's not that big of a deal and you'll usually get a little over payoff, assuming you're not way upside down on your current loan. Personally, I'm never trading in again, after dealerships were offering 7K on my '03 Santa Fe, and I sold it privately for 10,800 (4 cyl, Manual trans.)
  • bobadbobad Member Posts: 1,587
    Tommy,

I paid about 16,500 for the standard GLS V6. $500 higher or lower is not unusual, and stll a pretty good deal in most areas. The $16500 includes all the tacked-on charges with the rebates deducted. Of course you must must add TT&L to that $16500. I didn't get any etching, pinstripes, etc. for that price, just the basic GLS package.
  • bfridellbfridell Member Posts: 10
I paid $16000 for my base GLS V-6 in the Seattle area on May 6th.MSRP $21495 less $2495 dealer discount, less $2500 rebate, less $500 loyalty rebate.I think thats a pretty good deal.
  • tommyc2tommyc2 Member Posts: 9
I have been to 4 dealerships here in SE VA, spent at approx 2 hrs at each working a deal and the best I have come up with is 1705 off Basic GLS V6 of 21495=thats 19790-2500rebate I dont qualify for any others. Thats 17290, so thats about 700-800 more then the deals just mentioned. Are you guys getting more that just 2500 rebate? If you are getting more rebates then that makes sense. Fitzmall is 16,831 and 300 less on paperwork. Are u getting more than 2500 rebate? Dealers around here are tight otherwise.
  • miamixtmiamixt Member Posts: 600
First that is illegal & they can't do it. Second, MSRP is a suggested price. The Dealer can retail the unit for any amount they choose. My Car came with the $895 3M appearance package and the stripes look great, until they break of course (made of foil). In fact every Dealer I have ever seen on both the East & West coast adds these packages on the "ADD-A-TAG", or they just inflate the selling price, nothing new. And that's just the starting point with their magic bag of tricks. Sorry for those having a hard time finding a good price. Dealers sometimes get together in town and do the local racketeering thing :surprise:
  • kbikbi Member Posts: 1
To Bfridell, I also live in Seattle area. I was wondering if you could share the name of the dealer. I am pretty interested.
  • averigejoeaverigejoe Member Posts: 559
Just curious: What were the final written offers you made to those dealers before you walked away? And what were the MSRPs of those cars on which you made those final written offers?
  • caspernccaspernc Member Posts: 1
I am considering checking out Keffer Hyundai tomorrow and was wondering if anyone has bought from them or any other area dealerships in the area. I'm thinking the V4, though the discount offered on the V6 is tempting. Anyway, any feedback on dealers in this area would be appreciated.

    Hi Tommyc2,

Why don't you get a quote from NoVA and ask your local dealer to match the price? I got my GLS V6 basic in Fairfax, VA in the middle of May for $17K OTD. The breakdown is $16.1K for the car (after $2.5K rebate), $600 for TTL, and $300 for dealer processing fee. I am not qualified for other rebates.

    Good luck.
  • alamocityalamocity Member Posts: 680
I can relate to the problems you are having. The dealers here were not willing to budge on their prices whatsoever, in essence $21,500.00 for a 4 cylinder GLS and 20,500 for a six cylinder GLS. Granted I could drive to the Dallas area for a much better price but at this point will give serious consideration to the Accord and Camry both priced lower out the door for comparable price of the 4 cylinder model.
  • njeraldnjerald Member Posts: 689
    Check EBAY listings.
  • tommyc2tommyc2 Member Posts: 9
MSRP was 21495 at each dealer, 18995-2500 rebate was my last offers, 1 dealer started at 20631 ended at 19995-rebate, 1 dealer started at 20295 ended at 19790-rebate, next one was 20731-rebate, wasnt budging from 300 over what they said invoice was, the latest one says only can do invoice 20431-rebate, didnt bother any at this one

I think I will go outside of SE VA, They all plead poverty and that there isnt any mark up, and if they go lower they would be losing money....lol yeah right, they just want to make a 1000, must be high demand here or they are in cahoots with each other here, I think I may do better in another city from what Im working on over the internet.

    Hey all, remember me?

Hyundai has their new incentives out. $2,500 minimum rebates for GLS V6 and LX models.

I finally broke down and bought a new 2006 Hyundai GLS V6 with an MSRP of $22,391 for....

    ....drumroll please....

    ...$15,248 plus TTL.

I drove the car for at least an hour over every road surface to make sure there was no K-thunk sound.

I know these cars depreciate FAST, so I am planning on keeping it for a long, long while.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Congratulations! Can you break down the deal for us and share with us how you got such a great deal? It would be instructive for the Sonata buyers out there. Thanks.
  • randydawrandydaw Member Posts: 20
Absolutely fabulous! Did you get loyalty discount, or anything else besides the $2500? This makes my deal (17,200 for a 23,495 LX) look anemic!

Most importantly, WHERE did you get the deal? I've read lots of posts without specifics, and that doesn't help the others who are buying. But if all you want is "attaboy" you got it.

    :shades:

PS RE: depreciation: the depreciation for TCO (True Cost of Ownership) reports is calculated off of avg selling price in your area. When you buy right like this, your depreciation looks a whole lot better! I'm figuring that saving $2k on the purchase price brings the total cost per mile after 5 years/ 100k miles down from .55 to about .52 - making your buy among the "best in class." None of Hyundai's competitors are offering anything like these kinds of discounts, from what I am reading on the other forums.

I think we should always consult TCO before making a purchase decision. If I could fit in a Civic, I would sure have liked that .28/mile over 5 years!!

Has anyone gotten a great price from a dealer in upstate NY or NJ, The best price I can find in my local Albany NY area is about $500 over invoice. I'm looking to get an LX, no options.
    Thanks
  • zhuskyzhusky Member Posts: 3
I've seen multiple posts where buyers are getting a better deal on the LX than the GLS. I was just given an offer of $17,450 on a GLS-V6 after $2,500 rebate (Denver, CO). Can I really get an LX for that same price or better?

    Hoping to buy TODAY. :D
  • randydawrandydaw Member Posts: 20
apples to apples (I got a $500 loyalty rebate also), my base LX was 17,700. You have a good deal there, I think you'll need to get lucky to do better by very much. But joedirt just got his GLS for sub 16k.... we're waiting to hear the details about that one.
  • alamocityalamocity Member Posts: 680
Sounds similiar to the price that Freeman Hyundai in Irving offers, as they were selling the GLS for $15,388.00 which included the $2500.00 rebate and $500.00 for owner loyalty. Just goes to show how the market drives the price, here in San Antonio both Honda and Toyota dealers are more willing to make deals.
  • averigejoeaverigejoe Member Posts: 559
    Wow!
Congrats, Joe, on your bargain price!
You may have the record for a GLS V6 with a $22,391 MSRP.
    Nice going. Enjoy!
  • tarheel96tarheel96 Member Posts: 17
I got my GLS V6 w/ Premium Sport Pkg for 16,900 (including 500 loyalty rebate). Would have been 15,450 without Sport Pkg. Best deal I could find in the Baltimore/Washington area.

I am not "good" at the whole haggling thing. I currently have an Elantra that I think I did fair on. This car is for my mom. We are in the 32712 zip code if that matters. But I just want to know what I should not go ABOVE as far asa pricing goes!

    Thanks,
    Lee
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
If you want a rough rule of thumb, don't go above the published invoice price (as per Edmunds.com for example) LESS any rebates you qualify for. That is before any taxes, license, or other fees. So for example if invoice is $20,000 and you qualify for $2500 in rebates, your target ceiling should be $17,500, plus tax, license, and reasonable fees like a small documentation fee. Keep in mind that is a rough rule of thumb; some dealers will not sell the car for invoice less rebates, and at others you can do substantially better with some negotiations, and depending on what hidden incentives are available at that point in time. If possible have someone go with you who is good at the "haggling thing."
  • zhuskyzhusky Member Posts: 3
After much dealing and many dealers, we finally settled at $20,427 plus $2,500 rebate. Edmunds.com Invoice price shows $20,661. TMV shows $20,788. :D

Rebates for June should be posted in a day or so. In the meantime you could call your local dealer; they should have info on current incentives.
  • tarheel96tarheel96 Member Posts: 17
Rebates for June already posted. $2500 for LX and GLS V6 good through 07/04/06
