Only work with invoice prices. Get the invoice prices from Edmunds or Kelly Blue Book. Only work with invoice price of LX, I think it is around $20,981 plus premium option of sunroof/CD changer, $1300? I am travelling so I dont have the actual numbers. That amount is $22281. Subtract $2,500 incentive plus $500 if you are a current Hyundai owner and you are down to $19281. Take $19281 - $600 advertising fee ( negotiable fee for TV advertising. Will appear on their invoice if they show it to you ). Now you are at
$18,681. This was essentially the net net amount. From here it was playing one dealer off the other. Let them know that the vehicle they have is not the one you want. Make it appear that you are not getting what you ( ex: color of interior/exterior )and negotiate based on what they do have on the lot. They will lower their price to make the deal worth it. The guy took $800 off to take one of the vehicles he had on the lot. At this point, you continue to go back and forth between calling the dealers to say that you have gotten a better deal at another dealer. Don't visit them until you think you have gotten close to their final number. Once I got to $17,800 he said he wouldn't quote any more numbers over the phone. I then visited the dealer and continued to work the numbers from there. Finally, make sure you are talking with the sales manager, he/she is the only one who can get to the lowest dollar amount.

Note that the invoice prices at Edmunds.com do NOT include the advertising fees. The dealer's invoice may show these, however.

Very good point bhmr59 on how the sales slip is written up.
The said on it they gave me $9600 for my trade. They actually gave me $7,650. You're right, when the are prepared to show someone my "old" car they will show them the $9600 amount "trade-in". That way if they sell it for $10,000, they can say "we only made $400", when in fact, they'll make $2,350. Very sneaky move and without a doubt I'm sure they would do this.

I found the same thing with the internet guy at Freeman.

You want a sales guy.... too bad I can't say his name.

Call and ask for the Hyundai showroom. Tell them about the deal I got and ask for the same salesperson who helped me.

And don't forget... they have more cash to play with than they did last month!

Very new to forum. Learnt a lot.
Dealers in Utah have replaied with MSRP-rebates ... lol...through internet query.

dcurran: could you please tell what state/dealership?

    Regards,
    Dave

How did you get to $730 holdback? I think it should be around $440 considering invoice price of $22000, and edmunds.com states " 2% holdback for Hyundai".

    Regards,
    Dave
  • dcurrandcurran Member Posts: 15
I don't where he came up with $730 for the hold back. The math didn't make sense to me either since I had $440 for HB. I accepted since it was a higher amount.
I am based in MA. I have 3 Hyundai dealerships in a 25 mile radius.

Just bought a V6 GLS for $18,400 out the door (that includes all taxes, dealer profit, rebates, etc). Is this a good deal? BTW, I LUVVVVVVVVVVVVVV this car. The best feature are the seats. Never knew seats could be this supportive and yet so COMFORTABLE!!! The power is awesome so I'm willing to pay at the pump. Drove the 4 cyl...it was excellent but after test driving the V6, could not go back to the 4. Neighbor thought I'd bought a Lexus! Ugh, I don't think so. Would never overpay to support some rich Tokyo's exec's Italian vacation. Plus this V6 is made in the good ol' US of A!!!

Sounds like a great deal....where abouts did you buy it?
  • wjmwjm Member Posts: 10
Hey that sounds like a pretty good deal to me. Does it have any options in it besides the basic GLS V6 trim? I ended up buying one too in Michigan for a little under 17400 and 500 bucks less for the second one.

Does anyone know if the manual transmission on a I4 will last longer or if the GLS V6 automatic will last longer interms of the durability of the engine? I wanted a manual transmission badly but I had to settle for what they had in the lot. Let em know if anyone has any ideas.

    Hi everyone.

I just bought an '06 LX loaded for 18,245 before tax, title and tags. I love this car. I went to Antwerpen Hyundai on RT 40 in Catonsville, MD and had a very pleasant experience.

    Cheers

Congratulations for discovering the best-kept secret in the world of mid-size autos!

Here is a link I think you will be interested in. It points to an article about what a great value the Sonata is.

Can't even find a deal below $17500 for GLS, let alone LX. Is there anybody got a good deal in zip code 18612?

    Thanks a million.

Why always some posts missing in this threads? I can't find #2280 and #2282.

Hi, I'm thinking of buying a Sonata gls v6 with premium sports package. I received a quote of 17500 + ttl, including rebate. I know I can get a better deal than that. What do you guys think is a fair deal for me and dealer? I'm in southern california. thanks in advance
  • dcurrandcurran Member Posts: 15
I bought an LX on Tue, loaded, for $17,450 plus my trade.
I got $7,650 for my 2003 LX with 67K miles. Go for the LX loaded. Play one dealer off another. This works great. Also, call the different dealers. Don't visit them. Only visit them when you get close to the dollar amount you're willing to spend. When you get to the dealer reduce the price farther to keep you from going to another dealer.
Be willing to leave as well. As long as you're not in a hurry to buy the car, they'll call you back, most likely the next day or maybe the same day to negotiate the pricer fiurther. Good luck!

    hi dcurran,

can you send me more information about your deal? It's almost mission impossible for me.

    Thanks.
  • gerbriogerbrio Member Posts: 8
Thnx Dcurran, What state are you in? Going for the lx instead has crossed my mind. If i do go for the gls v6 w/ prem sports package, do you think I can get it for the 17500 out the door. I'm in california.

Aloha! I'm in hawaii. I'll have honeymoon around california "mid" August and start my job "later" August at Phoenix,AZ. Since Hyundai gives good offer until 4/7/06, I'd like a good deal and buy new sonata LX before the deadline. But I should be stuck here in Big Island, Hawaii until the honey moon. I'm boldly thing my first hyundai LX would be my honeymoon car ^^ or I could get it in Phoenix. New car and new life! Can I make it "by 100% internet and phone work?" ?
Or I'd better start off car research again at phoenix? Honda, toyota ..blah.. blah... model 2007 ... -_-

Let me have any comment on these issue ?
  • dcurrandcurran Member Posts: 15
Only work with invoice numbers. If you are a current Hyundai owner, you will get an additional $500 off as well as th current $2500 rebate. If you add up the invoice LX price with options, minus the $3000, subtract $600 adv fee,
you should be around $18,655. From there, I would call dealers to say you got a quote for $18,600 from a local dealer. You don't have to say which one. See if they will take additional money off to buy from them. Go back to another delear with that lower quote. In my case, at $17,800, he said he wouldn't quote any more prices over the phone. At that point, meet manager, and battle from there. Be willing to walk out as well. YOu can always come back.
  • miamixtmiamixt Member Posts: 600
Remember you can always get a divorce, but you will have to live with your Sonata. Good Honeymoon choice by the way. You can do anything on the Internet and phone, but I'd go in person, get to know whom you are purchasing from, bring the Wife :shades:

I just paid $20,639.00 for a fully loaded LX(sunroof and 6CD). This was the "out the dorr price" and INCLUDED tax, tag and title. This is with a rebate of $2,500.00.
  • eric39eric39 Member Posts: 15
Mine was 20,269 out the door, LX fully loaded. The thing that sucks is that the state of Maryland charges you tax on the before rebate price. So instead of taxing me on 18,235 they taxed me on 20,735. That is so wrong. Still lovin' this car a lot!
  • miamixtmiamixt Member Posts: 600

While I find the "out the door price" the most realistic way to post a price, I paid $2000 less for the same car :confuse: .
I did get an extra $500 Rebate :)

Long live the LX!. Wait, it has been discontinued already

The LX has been discontiuned in name only. The new Limited is the same trim level with only minor changes in standard equipment.
  • bobadbobad Member Posts: 1,587
The LX has been discontiuned in name only.

Doesn't "LX" stand for "Limited"? (Or is it "Luxury"?)

"The LX has been discontiuned in name only".

"Doesn't "LX" stand for "Limited"? (Or is it "Luxury"?)

I agree, the "Limited", which will be anything but limited, should be the "LI". Luxury will always be with the LX :)
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
the "Limited", which will be anything but limited, should be the "LI".

All auto makers use terms, such as "limited", which they hope will sell vehicles. I can't think of how many "limiteds" have been on the market by how many different manufacturers. Ford LTD (when first introduced) comes to mind immediately. Then there's the "SE" or "special edition." But my favorite has to be "sport" which has been slapped on to minivans and SUV's. [And, what is sports car like about a "sports utility vehicle"?]

Just got a quote for $15999 and the only rebate included was the $2500. So far that's the best I have gotten. This is in Seattle. Not sure if I want to pull trigger. Insurance goes up another $60 monthly to add it =(

    Hope this helped.

Envy you guys, I never got a quote below $18000 for GLS V6 in PA (18612), crazy.
  • xiandaixiandai Member Posts: 3
Hi, when you guys said quote, you meant the invoice price or the price they promise to sell you?
  • njeraldnjerald Member Posts: 689
The price they offer it to you for....

    Hi ...

I am in WI and looking at purchasing a Hyundai Sonata LX fully loaded. I saw you paid $17,200 at Freeman Hyundai in Irving. I was wondering who your salesperson was, and if you could send me any documentation to back that up. I called Freeman and they didn't really believe anyone got that price.

Any information you could provide would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Nicole

take note that you can still get a lower price than your quoted price. contact another dealer, tell them about your quoted price, and then ask for a better deal. do this back and forth until one dealer is unwilling to lower the price further. this gave me a price about 500$ better than just the initial e-mail quote.

Just purchased the GLS- V6 with sunroof. Out the door price of 19,000 taxes (NY),rebate, and other costs all included. Dealership in N. Plainfield, NJ. Nice experience also.

my GF is looking to buy sonata.

we went to the antwerpen hyundai(baltimore).
they gave us the out the door price of 18750. it's white lx with beige leather without the sunroof.

but she didn't buy because appraised her 2000 ford focus zx3 for only $500!!!!

we will probably buy the car after we sell the focus first.

Don't be surprised when the deal isn't good without the trade. Sounds like you got a very good deal but only because they are trying to steal your trade. Ask them if you can get that deal without the trade and if you can grab it !! Don't wait to sell the Focus, time is money.

It's easy to give good deals on new cars when you can steal the trade. Even I can do that.

    Good luck,

Edmunds shows a charge of $134 for "Regioal Adjustment" in southern NJ included in the TMV price for the 2007 Sonata.

Just what exactly is the "Regional Adjustment". BTW, The amounts differ by Make and by zip code.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
It means market prices in a particular part of the country are different (in this case higher) than in other parts of the country.
  • xiandaixiandai Member Posts: 3
Did you buy it? Is it out of door price ?
  • xiandaixiandai Member Posts: 3
Hey I don't quite understand the number here. Someone said they get a quote around 16,000, but is it the OTD they finally paid? I found most of the GLS V6 has a OTD of 17000-18000. Can it be lower?
  • herbertyuherbertyu Member Posts: 1
I am looking to buy a GLS V6. I tried very hard but the best I got from dealers in Boston area is $17,500 + TTL.
dcurran, is it possible for you to refer me at your dealer? Send me email if you don't mind. Thanks a lot.
  • iperiper Member Posts: 12
Hi, Dcurran or other friends here,
I am shopping around for a LX and the dealer here said that he will honor the price you guys paid if I can have them in writen. I am wondering if you can email or fax me a copy of something that can prove the deal. That will be a big help and I really appreciate your help. My email is in my profile if you prefer private msg.

    Thanks for your attention,

    Michael

It is possible to get GLS around 16,000 OTD, but it depends on your Location and luck. So, 17,000 is a good price but 18000 is high.
  • hope10hope10 Member Posts: 5
my quotes have been around the range of 1800o+ OTD in philly. unfortunately i have never gotten a quote OTD of 17000. unless you have $500 rebate for loyal customers
  • iperiper Member Posts: 12
