thanks in advance for your opinions.
If you don't need leather, telescoping steering wheel, 17" wheels, or the climate control system, then the GLS is a comparative steal. I got the LX because of the telescopic steering, period. If my arms had been longer, I'd have saved the money and gone with the GLS V-6.
Oh it has NO sunroof and it is cloth interior, he said the basic package..which is what we want.
The Korean automaker said total sales in May rose 5.2 percent to 42,514 from 40,416 a year ago. The company's Sonata sedan, which saw volume more than double to 17,035, and its Azera sedan drove the gains. Hyundai's other models all posted year-over-year declines.

thanks
The only Chrome worth mentioning on the Sonata is the Dual exhaust pipes, and they sure do look sweet!
$21,000 invoice
-$2500 Rebate
- $500 Trade in (almost 200K miles on it)
--------------
$18,000 +TTL
Also got free oil changes for life due to an early message left on my machine from a salesman. Had to really fight for these.
The two different dealers I have spoken with here in Utah, orem and Sandy are both trying to feed me the B.S. that there is not much markup in the sonata and therefore only claiming about $600 off MSRP.
The sticker on the Sonata I'm looking at list for 24,895.00
What would you suggest that I start my offer at on this vehicle before dealer rebates or incentives?
Any suggestions or help of any kind would be greatly appreciated and I forgot to mention I will be paying cash on this car due to a recent inheritance. does paying with cash make any difference?
As for your offer... did they ask you for a counteroffer? That is a good sign they are willing to bargain. Looks like they are using the old "Buy low, sell high" strategy. If I were you I'd start no higher than invoice (before rebates). If you want to show them you know the "Buy low, sell high" strategy too, you could start at considerably below invoice and see what their reaction is.
I was asking for GLS V6 + Sunroof for an OTD price $17000. The dealer then asked for $18000. I left and said I would go to another dealer. On my way to the second dealer, I got a phone call from the first dealer saying they could do it with $17900 OTD, and then $17800. I still think it's too high and rejected the offer.
What do you guys think? Is $17800 good enough for a brand new GLS V6 + Sunroof?
Example one: "I love your GLS Sir, this is good quality cloth but I would really prefer Leather, and that Electric Chair, wow!".
Example two: "What a beautiful LX, but I don't need this fancy Seat, and the leather smells, that is the leather right?. 6 CD Changer, you know Sir one Mp3 Disc can hold 250 songs, that's 15 regular CDs!".
$22,885 - 2,500, $500 owner loyalty, $730 hold back. I don't know where the $500 bonus cash comes from, nor do I care.
That amount comes to $18,655. How he gets to anywhere in the 17's, I don't know. How that guy JoeDirt, got a fully loaded GLS below 16K is anyone's guess.
Always work one dealer versus another.
They hate to give the business to another dealer.

I really can't answer that, but you should not be asking, let them do the talking, of course you have the final word!. Remember, I bought the top LX at this price. If there is another Dealer in town, I would spend some time with them, as that payments thing might bite you in the butt. (Dealers have unlimited tricks they try). You know Edmunds has the most helpful advice on buying a new Car at www.edmunds.com, click on tips and advice. Good luck, but do get the Sonata!

Go in at the end of the month, and tell them you are here to buy today! (Do all homework beforehand)
I don't know if this is the markup from invoice to MSRP. If not, if could explain (more than holdback) how dealers can sell below invoice, before rebates.
If there's $2500 rebate on the 6 cyl plus $2,000 dealer incentive from the factory, anyone should be able to buy a 6 cyl Sonata for at least $4500 below MSRP. Add in a dealer discount of at least $800 and other rebates, like military or graduates and a smart buyer should be able to get a 6 cyl for $5500 to $6000 below MSRP. But watch out for the dealer grabbing back several hundred through documentation and other dealer fees.
The idea of getting a better deal for paying cash is so, so old school...at least 40 years old. Yeah, they'll lower the price bor cash, but not any lower than they would have taken on a financed deal.
$17,450 is less than I paid for 2003 LX. Not bad.
I figured the oil changes are worth another $180 bucks.
If you're going to buy the car, you might as well mention the oil changes as the final close. That will close the deal.
I just came across this report that Hyundai has upped their dealer incentives for the Sonata this month:
http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2006/06/05/010045.html
Apparently the dealers now have $500 more to work with than they did a few days ago. (Sorry, I just realized that others had already posted this info)
Fellow buyers: take charge! Pick a VERY low number, and stick to it! Walk out if the price is $100 too high! Let them know you have other options! Good luck.
The first one Steel Gray basic GLS V6 for 17377.86 out the door (including the 2500 dollar cashback, tax, docs, all other fees)
Second one is a powder pearl white GLS V6 basic for 16877.00 out the door (500 dollars owner rebate on top of the 2500 dollar cash back)
They were offering me a GL 4 cyl automatic for 17100 out the door so I didn't think that was worth it
However I really wanted a manual transmission GL 4 cyl and they just couldn't find any around michigan, ohio or illinois....
Let me know if these prices were reasonable. Thanks
I did, and I'm wrong
Perhaps I'm the one who should have waited! But then I would have had to drive my old car over memorial day weekend...
Had 1 salesman (not impressive at all) who told me no way are loaded LXs going for under $19000 after the rebate. He wouldn't even get near $20K - needless to say we walked and fast....He was one of those guys who said he had a "great deal" for us (needless to say his definition and mine were different) but only on that day!! Name of the dealer was Hyundai Auto Mall in Kyle, TX, just north of San Marcos on I-35.
Their doc fee was $299. I said that was a ridiculus amount for paperwork and he said "we have to make money somewhere". Anyway, total taxes, feed registration was $800
What is very interesting is how they write up the sale. The sales numbers put into the bill of sale don't reflect anywhere near to how the actual deal was done.
Used to be, maybe still is, dealers would show on paper a higher trade-in allowance offset by a higher new car price so they could show a person buying your used car what they paid for your car in order to sell your used car for more money.
