I am getting a 2006 LX loaded on Saturday.
I am undecided as to purchasing the car or leasing it.
    Here are the scenarios:
Lease is 268.00 X 36 months, 2200 out of pocket. (taxes, bank fee, etc).
Buy is for 21700, less 3000.00=18700.00
I have a 2003 Sonata Gls loaded with 26,000 miles.
They offered 9200.00 (i owe 1700.00 on it.
Which way would I be better off?

Me personally I would say buy. I have had my loaded LX for a week and it's the best car I have ever owned. :D

That's far better than the $500 for which the dealer was going to steal it. Is the $18,750 OTD still good as a cash deal ?

For whatever it's worth, I paid $19,200 OTD (with standard $2,500 rebate and $500 loyalty rebate) for an LX in Western PA. without sunroof or White Pearl paint, which as you know is shown on the window as a $200 option. I assume it is White Pearl vs. Arctic White but even with Arctic White you have a very good deal compared to what I paid. Around here (5 dealers) that was the best I could do. I'm satisfied, so if you get your's for $18,750 OTD, you should be ecstatic!

Let us know how you do.

    Again, good luck.

    Hi, tarheel96

This is an incredible deal. :surprise: Can you provide the dealer name and city. It's worthy to buy it from there then drive back to Georgia.

If without the Sport package, what price would you think will be a good deal?

    Thanks
  • iperiper Member Posts: 12
I am wondering anybody can PM or fax me a related document that can show the OTD price around $19,000 for a LX? The dealer here said they will honor the deal if I have such as low price in writen...
My email is in my profile.

    thanks.

today i bought a new 06 sonata GLS v6 with just standard features and no other options for $16100 plus TTD.. Is this a good deal? plus i also bought five year extended bumper to bumper warranty that hyundai offers for $895 after a long negotiation.. do you think the extended bumper to bumper warranty worth it?
  • alamocityalamocity Member Posts: 680
I'm curious, was the price given before or included with the quote on the extended warranty?
  • jmonroejmonroe Member Posts: 8,989
.. do you think the extended bumper to bumper warranty worth it?

Why are you questioning the price of something you have already purchased, can you get your money back when you find out that you have over paid ? There is ALWAYS somebody who has gotten a better price than you have.

You got a good deal on the car but gave some of it back when you bought the extended warranty. When I was considering the standard GLS V6, MSRP $21,495, (I finally purchased the standard LX, MSRP $23,495, see my post #2327) I could have purchased the extended warranty for $650, which was also good for the LX but I didn't want it.

It's always best to be sure you are satisfied with all of the numbers before you sign. Questioning a purchase after you buy only leads to aggravation.

Enjoy your Sonata, it's a good car.

yes, the price was given before the quote on the extended warranty. sales rep and i did not even talk about the extended warranty at all. It was the business manager who started talking about the extended warranty during my loan paperwork.
  • inocarsinocars Member Posts: 6
i think you misunderstood the point of my post.. perhaps you went two steps too far ahead.
i am not questioning the price.. i am rather ASKING OPINIONS of other people whether they would pay $850 for 5 year extended warranty or not. I had NEVER bought any sort of warranties until yesterday, and told a friend of mine NOT to buy extended warranty on his Matrix when dealer offered extended warranty at $1050. I just want to hear peoples' opinions on the extended warranty. THAT IS ABOUT IT!!
also, yes i could get my money back if i decide to cancel the warranty within 30 days. even though i am not considering the return, i will give some thoughts to it if large majority says it's not even worth it.
I was satisfied with all the numbers, and that is why i spent FREAKING SIX HOURS at the dealership without having any meal all day, and signed all that papers.
  • alamocityalamocity Member Posts: 680
Wow, six hours at the dealership? You have more patience than I do. As for the extended warranty many may scoff at the idea I think it's good to have that piece of mind, especially if you plan on keeping the car beyond the 5 year 60,000 mark.
  • jmonroejmonroe Member Posts: 8,989
I guess I'm not a good person to comment on the value/need of an extended warranty since I did not want it even though my price was a little better than what you paid, $650 vs. $850 (difference gets lost over the 5 years).

I am going to watch how others respond to wether an extended warranty is worth having. I might change wy mind and go back and get it since the price is good for at least 60 days.

As for spending 6 hours negotiating, I'm with alamocity on this (post #2335), I could never do that. What do you talk about for 6 hours ? I did my negotiating over the phone and it took 30 minutes and that included waiting about 20 minutes for a call back after the salesman took my offer to a higher authority for approval.

Enjoy your Sonata, I plan to enjoy mine. I think we both got pretty good deals.

    Thanks

My post was deleted by webmaster. Anyway, can you email me more detail about your deal? My email is in my profile.

For the San Diego County resident, the Hyundai dealer in Poway gave me a quote of $18447 + Tax&License. This price did not include the customer loyalty, military, or graduate discount, which I do not qualify. This was a really good deal so I took it. The other best price I got was $19300. This is an internet deal, so call the Internet Department and let them know you want a competitive :) qoute.
  • cellneuroncellneuron Member Posts: 22
how much did you say total? Thanks. (looks lime more than 20K).
  • tarheel96tarheel96 Member Posts: 17
I bought the car from Antwerpen Hyundai in Baltimore, MD. Please keep in mind that the $16,900 does not include tax and tags. Total out the door was about $18,200. Maryland charges tax on the total price before applying rebates. Price w/o Sport Pkg would have been $15,450 plus tax and tags. Hope this helps.

Not bad. I bought fully loaded LX (with sunroof) at $18771 (with graduation discount) before TTL on Jun 4th. I think you got a better offer than mine. I bought my car in houston, I visited almost all dealers in houston, that's the best I can get. I should have waited sometime, :)
  • mokiavellimokiavelli Member Posts: 60
Congrats. That seems to be a pretty good price. I am too in the San Diego Area. I might try Poway. Can you tell me if it included the Sunroof package? Thank you.
  • ej453ej453 Member Posts: 5
I got about that same price three weeks ago, see post #2231. I would think that you should be able to get it for a little less with the 2007's coming around the corner.
  • unity1unity1 Member Posts: 2
This did not include the sunroof package. You might be able to find better deals than me though.

Bought an 06 GLS V6 through Carsdirect for 17300 +tax and etc, 2500 rebate applied. Ended up at 19200 with everything included. I probably could have gotten an even better deal negotiating on my own but I did not have the time to spend going from dealer to dealer and didn't want the stress.

I never actually set foot at the dealer until it was time to pick up the buyers order paperwork to take to the bank. The Jim Ellis Hyundai Atlanta salesperson and the F&I manager were both excellent and easy to deal with, as was my loan officer at the bank. Nobody tried to upsell anything or make me pay for dealer prep stuff. I was stunned. I've had more sales pressure from salespeople at the big electronics stores. The car dealer was easy.

The car itself is also excellent in every possible way, far better than I had ever expected. :) All in all, this was just a fantastic transaction and I can't recommend the dealer highly enough. Carsdirect worked for what I needed so I would recommend them as well, but it should be possible to outdo their pricing for those people inclined to spend some time on it.

Bought the same car (06 Sonata GLS V6 with no options) as wel. $15,650 + TTL after $3,000 rebate from Huffines Hyundai. Similar experience, where all conversation took place via email/phone. Most of everything is in place, so trip to the finance office took less than 15 minutes. Pretty good experience in all. :)

Did a sunday shop at Brad Benson's after hearing ads on local radio. Found they were adding almost $3000 in dealer add-ons before discounts making the prices still good but not as low as one would think. About what I paid in november at same dealer, this is just a gimmick.

I got a quote of 2006 LX + premium + Powder white. Internet selling would not be a problem. But deller at prescott arizona gaves me unfamiliar number.
What would be a nice reply for this deal ? I'm a foreign student and I guess i'm not good at dealing with sales person. Comments would be appreciated !
    Sam.

OK, I'll give this a shot, but I bought 4 months ago. First, your MSRP is inflated. Don't look at the ADD-A-TAG©, or Dealer added sticker, as the MSRP on the LX with all options should be $24,495. There might be a slight extra charge for that Powder White.

Right off the bat an email quoting $250 under invoice sounds suspicious. An incredible deal would be true invoice (price it here at Edmunds) minus the current cash incentive of $2500 or $3000, whatever it is now. But wait... there's more!. The Dealer will then attempt to add fees, all sorts of fees.

If you can pick up the LX for Invoice, then subtract the rebate, pay no fees, and just add Sales tax & Registration, you have made a great deal. Good luck, and happy Honeymoon to you!

Hey, I just purchased a 2006 Dark Cinnamon with beige interior Sonata LX pkg 3 (sunroof)and added tint, mudguards, trunk liner and cargo net for $20935. Is this a good deal? We went in to purchase the LX without the sunroof but there was none in the color we wanted in the entire Houston area. So, we were given the standard "What would it take to get you in this car tonight?" spill and told them we wanted "e pricing" and all the aftermarket add on's for free. We are in Houston, TX so I am not sure what the pricing is elsewhere.

I am about to purchase a Sonata GLS Deepwater Blue from a dealer here in Michigan and I am wondering if this is a Good Deal. We are settling for $22,700 and I will get back $2500 rebate making my buy 20,200 with tax title license transfer!
    Please post response ASAP

  • alamocityalamocity Member Posts: 680
That price sounds too high for the GLS model with no options. Did you check the Edmund's True Market Value price for your area? In my area the true market value is $17,995.00 so you might want to check there first before committing yourself to that price.
  • miamixtmiamixt Member Posts: 600
"We are in Houston, TX so I am not sure what the pricing is elsewhere."

There are 2300 plus posts, along with the Edmunds pricing Tools that could have saved you at least $2000. I'd say no good deal there :(
  • vinterbrivinterbri Member Posts: 4
I want to thank you for your response, I have not closed a deal yet!
  • vinterbrivinterbri Member Posts: 4
I just joined Inside Line and already I have saved myself $2000 dollars on what could have been a very bad deal. I am elated!
  • godeacsgodeacs Member Posts: 481
Please explain! First, you say a "good deal" is invoice less the $2500 rebate, no other fees plus taxes. OK, a loaded LX invoice is $22885 - $2500 = $20385. Then you tell a recent buyer who paid just under $21K that the price is about $2K too high! Which is it???... :confuse:

For the record, here in the San Antonio area, the dealers laugh at you if you offer to buy for $20K OR tell them others are buying for $18.5K-$19K ..... ;)

PS I know about your great deal....
  • alamocityalamocity Member Posts: 680
I live in San Antonio and ran into the same problem when pricing the GLS model, seems like either the local Hyundai dealers are doing quite well or not willingly to deal. Have noticed that one dealership has them going for $15,888.00 or so (GLS) but last visit they had added a lot of fees to that price and I grew frustrated with them.
  • alamocityalamocity Member Posts: 680
Quite welcome, I have learned much from the forum. Some get great deals and others not so great, but if nothing else you can use the information that others provide to be informed on prices when negotiating with the dealers.
  • vinterbrivinterbri Member Posts: 4
The TMV in Michigan is 20049 going down to 17,549 after the rebate and before taxes. So I should be paying the 20,049 + 6% sales tax or 21,251. Right now that is priced out at $22,700
  • alamocityalamocity Member Posts: 680
If the TMV price after the rebate is $17,459.00 then that is the figure you should be looking to pay plus the tax, title and license which should be you around $19,000.00 or so.
  • miamixtmiamixt Member Posts: 600

God, I don't know what to tell you, but I do know this... Any advice that I have posted here in response to a "loaded" LX, is based on an MSRP of $24,895, which includes $850 for the Sunroof, $550 for the 6 Disc CD changer, and $600 for Inland Freight & Handling. You need to read the MSRP sticker again, and look at the bottom of the sticker, not just stop when you see $22,885?.
  • seriusblackseriusblack Member Posts: 7
That's exactly what godeac's saying. MSRP of 24,985 has an invoice of $22,885. $2500 (rebate) off invoice is good deal according to you (post #2351) which drop it to $20,485. So how come you're saying someone paying $20,935 is paying $2000 too much (post #2355)?
  • mango06mango06 Member Posts: 4
Thanks for the post but I have to agree with the others that your giving mixed signals. We researched Edmunds completely before going to the dealership and this is what we based our decision on....
    MSRP: 24945
    Invoice: 22885
    TMV: 20622

All figures were from Edmunds.com and we did not even mess with looking at paperwork stuck on window to get our totals.

So at the last offered price from the dealership of $20835.00 we said no. Then they came back with the "what can we do to get you in the car tonight" spill and we said tack on full tint, mudguards, trunk cargo net and custom rubber trunk liner and you got a deal.

So basically we got the car for $$213.00 over TMV but with almost $900.00 after market items added on.
  • cellneuroncellneuron Member Posts: 22
It's just funny. We were talking about $18000 OTD as good deal for LOADED LX one week ago, now it seems more than 20K for a LX still a hot deal. Are we talking about same year Sonata (2006)?
  • mango06mango06 Member Posts: 4
I hope we are talking about a 2006 beacuse that's what I bought. After all is said and done I think 20,835 for a fully loaded LX with sunrooof package and aftermarket add on's is a good price.
  • seriusblackseriusblack Member Posts: 7
With the exception of Miami and dcurran who else is getting a loaded LX for $18000 OTD? That would mean they're selling it for about $16900 ($6000 below invoice), with TTL of 6.5%. Those were excellent deals that most folks/dealership won't be able to duplicate.
  • bobadbobad Member Posts: 1,587
I don't think you're going to get a LX loaded with max option package for under $19500 OTD unless something freaky happens.
  • David EhrlichmanDavid Ehrlichman Member Posts: 47
I just picked up a loaded LX with pearl paint, mud guards, and sun deflector.

After the rebates, I paid 18,500 + taxes.
  • seriusblackseriusblack Member Posts: 7
Which @6% tax rate will be around $19,600 OTD. More inline with what bobad mentioned rather than the $18,000 OTD figures.
Of course some states don't have sales tax...wish I lived in one
  • aceshigh73aceshigh73 Member Posts: 2
Its funny because I cant get anywhere near the $18-19k price either....

I think we need a new clarification....

When we say "loaded", do you mean the roof and radio package?
and I think the important thing to mention, did you have a trade involved, because sometimes the dealer will see a profit in it and choose to sell a car lower.
I dont have a trade, and the lowest I think I'll see is $19.9k for a LX with roof and stereo package.

I understand playing one dealer off another, but in my part of the country, the 06's are getting scarce.... and most of my hyundai dealers dont do pricing over the phone....
  • bobadbobad Member Posts: 1,587
"Loaded" is with all available factory options, which I personally wouldn't spring for for. The standard LX options are a pretty full package as is. The only thing I envy in the LX is the power leather seats. I actually consider 17" wheels, sun roof, 6 CD changer, and climate control to be liabilities.
