GLS, white pearl, V6, prem. sport pkg #5 - invoice is $21,530. In stock.

LX, white pearl, V6, S/R-audio pkg #3, - invoice is $23,065. In stock.

I'm pulling the trigger today on one of them. Planning on going with 2.9% Hyundai financing and $1,000 rebate.

Last day of the month - any realistic guidelines on how far below invoice to offer as a start to the negotiations?

I'm also in "big-ticket" sales, so I can appreciate the need for the seller to make a buck and the buyer to save one. I am however, unfamiliar with Hyundai's profit margins and holdback structure.

    Any advice appreciated!!!

    novrain,

18500 OTD is about maximum. Anything more is high, anything less is gravy.

First, these are mostly "come on" ads. That fine print at the bottom always spells out the real deal:

    1) Only One Available
    2) Dealer retains all rebates
    3) Plus Dealer fees

Of course these prices don't include the normal Dealer shenanigans, like Window etching, a better Alarm system, and my favorite, Discounts off the full retail price, which can be a couple thousand more than the MSRP. (See the "Add a Tag", or Dealer affixed aftermarket sticker.)

What a great Car!. Actually saw my mileage drop into the fourteens today at Burger King. I'm glad I paid extra, or really less for the V6. However there's a good chance with the price of Gas, that operating a Car like this will not be feasible in the next year or two. Things are getting that bad in the World :(

It seems to me that you are basing your MPG based on the trip computer read out. If so, were you in the drive-thru lane and if so, for how many minutes? And if so, how long (mles) was it since you reset the computer.?

Any time you are idling, stop light, bank drive up, restaurant drive-thru, you are getting zero MPG. If you've already driven 180 miles since the reset you won't notice much difference, but if you've only driven 40 miles you'll see a big drop in MPG.

Does the '06 trip computer offer a "current mode" as well as "average mode?" If so check that and you will find wide ranging numbers anywhere from 6 to 33, depending on your drive, hills, stops, speed, etc.

One day it took me 25 minutes to drive just under 3 miles to work. If a trip computer had been reset just before that drive it would probably show about 5 MPG. However, the tank full could be 18.

no, they are real prices, at least in oregon. very competetive market for sonata here. portland is more of a camcord type of town i guess.

I went sunday shopping at my local Hyundai dealer last week and noticed thay had 40+ 6cyl Sonatas and only 2 4cyl gl's on lot. Seems odd considering 6cyl rebates, even taking into consideration gas prices. Did Hyundai underestimate 4cyl appeal. Any comments

I don't know much about eBay, and have heard of getting ripped off there, but you might be on to something?. Actually these are just Salesmen & Con Men, like there's any real difference between them?.

    Starting bid: US $0.01

Buy it now price: US $200.00
  • njeraldnjerald Member Posts: 689
That particular buying service may be suspect but is similar to Cars.direct and other buying services. They would have to have a unblemished record for me to bite.

EBAY is the largest car sales place in the world.

I've bought a private party used car on EBAY using an escrow service for the $22,000 payment.

The big dealers should be ok.

I bought my sister a Sonata LX for $4,300 under MSRP but the Midwest dealer is cheaper than that.

There will always be a few dirtbags everywhere.
  • miamixtmiamixt Member Posts: 600
The new V6 Hyundai Sonata LX is everything I have always wanted from Hyundai and more. You can't compare previous models John, the redesigned Sonata is a blast! :shades:
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
I have a feeling Hyundai is pushing the V6 models right now. They have more of a price advantage over competitors there and I suspect more profit. Hence the low rebates on I4s and bigger rebates on V6s--and dearth of I4s on the lot. I noticed the same thing the other day when I was at my local Hyundai dealer--very few I4s, lots of V6s.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
Or it could be, what with the price of gas currently, people are buying the 4 cyl and shying away from the 6 cyl to get a little better gas milage.

Current rebates may have called this correctly when they were set 5 or 6 weeks(?) ago.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
FWIW, most of the '06 Sonatas I've seen on the road have been V6s. Then there is the question as to what Hyundai is selling to fleets--I4s or V6s, or both.
  • ctc1ctc1 Member Posts: 66
My thinking is that Hyundai has under produced the 4cyl engine because of there obligations to produce for other manufacturers, and or the delivery lag to AL factory. If I'm correct engines are still being built in Korea. To me it doesn't make sense to short supply what should be your profit leader. Also a update on dealer stock, went back today and not a 4 cyl on the lot. Dealer a mile from my home so only a walk away and curiosity got the best of me.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
I only drive about 7500 miles per year and prefer the V6. The relatively small difference in MPG doesn't cost too much for someone driving that few miles.

Yes, last I heard the 4 cyl engine is still built in Korea and shipped to Alabama.

Yup I used Carcost canada as a bargaining chip and it worked fo me as well. I got my GLS premium for 29,200 plus AC tax (100) and tire tax (20). I am thrilled with this car as it is so much fun to drive. I also had to deal with that 399 security package but they relented when I refused it. I actually went to a dealer that was not part of the carcost canada program as they were closer to my house. My Car stickered for 30,800. Oh I also used the 5 years at 0% financing. I also did not pay the 300 doller documentation fee that they like to sneak in at the end. All in all it was a pleasent buying experience. I bought this in Calgary no PST!!!! :)

    Hi bae146,

    Sounds like a great deal!

How much did you pay for other cost?
    Pre-delivery Expense
    Freight
    Tax for fuel consumption
    Administration Fee
    4-way protection pkg
    extended warranty

People complained that some Hyundai dealers charged for very PDE (~$500) and Admin Fee (~$250). :(

    TIA
  • heehawheehaw Member Posts: 8
    Hello,

Does anyone have an idea on what the May Rebates are going to be for the Sonata? Or will their be no change from April's?
  • ken_zenken_zen Member Posts: 6
Got $250 back from dealer for the miscalculation of Destination charge: freight, PDE, Admin fee (should be $1345, dealer charged us $1,595 yesterday).
  • bae146bae146 Member Posts: 10
That price includes all costs. You have to lump all their costs together and then make your deal from there. I didn't get the 4 way protection or extended warrenty. I didn't feel that it was needed. I paid no admin fees. They did charge me to get my liscence plates but no more than I would have paid if I had got them myself. Great car so far. I would buy another for myself if I had the cash. My luck wife drives mine. She loves it. Especially the heated seats.

I just purchased a new Sonata LX with the sunroof and CD changer. I had to go to multiple dealers, but the sticker was $24,945. The dealer gave me a price of $21,655 before rebate. $2000 rebate made it $19,655. A doc fee of $189 was added for an out the door price of $19,844. That was in the Kansas City area and seems to be very competitive with what others have found.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
"out the door" should include taxes and other fees paid to the state in addition to the money the dealer keeps for the dealership.

The price you mention is excellent if it included all costs including taxes and state fees. It's still good if you had to add taxes and state fees.

Many happy miles & years with your new Sonata.

Bought a GLS-V6 with sunroof on 4/29/06. Paid 17,661 plus $99 processing fees plus Tax,Tag,License. This price included the $600 destination fee. This price is after the $2,000 rebate. This was in Fairfax, VA.

Three days later the rebate increased to $2,500. I don't mind if others paid less than me. I do feel bad that I could have paid $500 less if I had waited two days.

Does anyone have a suggestions about what I can do about it? Talk to Hyundai? Talk to dealer?

They wouldn't let me have the $500 loyalty cash. My fiancee owns a Tiburon but we don't live together at the same address, which apparently is necessary, not just being married or engaged.
  • wheeldealwheeldeal Member Posts: 6
Yea, I knew I did not get the best deal since I was in a hurry to get a car and that is the color I wanted. I totaled my other car :-( Thanks for your feedback, though.

On the Hyundai website it states the $500 Owner Loyalty thing is a coupon. How does a current owner acquire this coupon?

  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Dealers have the coupon. All you need to provide is proof of ownership.

Just to be clear, you got $18.5K out-the-door (with Tax, tags, license included) for a brand new 2006 Sonata LX with sunroof with under 100 miles on the ODO? If so, which dealer?
  • vchiuvchiu Member Posts: 564
16K USD for a V6 Sonata in the US..

I am very jealous as here in China, a locally assembled Sonata 2.4 (no v6 available, sadly) costs nearly 30k USD, no rebate possible.

This is the price I paid for my FIT. If I could get a sonata, even a 2,4 for this price, I would have bought it immediately.

I think the 21K you paid is a decent price for the LX.

Just to be clear, you got $18.5K out-the-door (with Tax, tags, license included) for a brand new 2006 Sonata LX with sunroof with under 100 miles on the ODO? If so, which dealer?

Don't let what he paid for his car ruin your fun!
If you go back and read his posts he will tell you that he got a car which sat for 6 months in the dealer's lot, by the sea; and went thru 2-3 hurricanes... so far he had the brakes replaced and bodywork I believe; and a few other things...
So, relax and enjoy your car; and don't let anybody spoil your fun!

There is a $2500 rebate for the Sonata V6 and $1000 for the 4cyl
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
And add $500 if you already own a Hyundai. :)

    I live in the Seattle area, I bought a new Sonata GLS V-6 for $16000 yesterday.$21495 less dealer discount $2495 less $2500 rebate,less $500 loyalty coupon.Great car,great price.
  • craigmricraigmri Member Posts: 243
    bfridell,

Did your $16000 deal happen to include a trade-in? Seems like the dealer discount element of your deal was below invoice even before you applied the rebates.

If this is a repeatable deal I'm very interested in a Sonata!

Does your LX have leather and a sunroof?
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
All LXes in the U.S. have leather. The post was clear there are no options, including moonroof.
  • craigmricraigmri Member Posts: 243
Nearby dealer offering a new 2006 LX with sunroof and Upgraded audio package. MSRP $24,945 Less $2500 rebate less dealer discount less $500 owner loyalty plus $299 dealer fee I'm at $20,000 plus tax and tag.

I'm thinking this is a deal I'd be a fool to pass on. Thoughts?

    Craig
  • bobadbobad Member Posts: 1,587
Others are getting it for 20K (and slightly less) out the door.
  • njeraldnjerald Member Posts: 689
$19,600 in the Seattle area + T&L (with the $3,000 in rebates you mentioned) and we are one of the higher price Hyundai areas.

    and no $299 dealer fee!!!!

I just purchased a new Sonata LX and love the car. I have had both an Accord owner and a Lexus owner comment how it compares very favorably with their cars. Initially I turned down the 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty, but am thinking twice about it. It was priced to me at $999. Is that a firm price, and is it worth it. Would appreciate any opinions.
  • osaka75osaka75 Member Posts: 88
I don't know so much about the price. However, I spoke to my dealer about the bumper to bumper warranty. They actually had two products. One backed by Hyundai and one backed by another company. The price they asked for was $995. Both were refundable if you decided that you didn't want it. However, the pro-rated amount started from the purchase date of the car (or maybe the contract?). So, if you drove exactly 5 years and 60,000 miles then asked for a refund you'd only get 50% back even though the warranty would not have been any use to you since the original warranty would cover everything. Ask your dealer for details. Then, I was told that if you sell the car before 100,000 miles, the Hyundai backed 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty would only tranfer the non-power train coverage to the new owner. Additionally, the original 10/100,000 power train warranty that comes with the car does not transfer to the new owner. (Sort of stupid and unfair of Hyundai, I think.) The extended warranty that was backed by the third party would transfer fully to the new owner. The brochure for that one said "The Mechanic" on the top front of the tri-fold brochure. It was the Gold membership that was offered to me. My dealer's finance office suggested that one over the Hyundai one. (Don't know if he had an incentive to do so.)

Anyway, make sure to ask questions so you know the exact details of what is covered. Hopefully someone else on this site can help you with suggestions for a good price. Good luck.

I did have a trade in. Where do you live?
  • sleeperbeesleeperbee Member Posts: 4
Made what I thought was a fair deal on a 2006 Sonata GLS, but I told them I wanted to check pricing elsewhere when they want an ADDITIONAL $845.00 in fees:

    $500 advertising fee
    $345 dealer doc. fee

I realize that the doc fees can vary wildly, but what's up wuth the advertising fee???
  • ksdriverksdriver Member Posts: 3
Thank you for the information. The one that was offered to me was the Hyundai backed warranty. That was more appealing because it is backed by the manufacturer. The 3rd. party warranty is only as good as the company backing it and may not even be around in a few years when it is needed. I have a grace period to decide so would like any other suggestions.

No, it was more like 120 on the ODO. Potamkin South Hyundai, Miami Florida.

Any adv. fee and doc. fee is a part of the price of the car. If they're offering the car at $18,000, they're really charging you $18,845.

Some say the adv. fee is legit for some dealers who participate in a company advertising program. Others say it's BS since advertising is a cost of doing business.

You need to focus on what the dealer is charging you before fees paid to the state like tax, registration, title, etc.

You didn't say what the "fair deal" price was, but it sounds like they quoted a low ball figure and then were planning to hit you with add-ons by these fees.

I bought from a dealer whose doc. fee was almost $100 higher than a local dealer, but my actual cost was over $1500 lower. Be concerned about the price you pay to the dealer, not necessarily the break down of the price.

Actually two really bad Hurricanes, and after the last one my Elantra looked like it was growing a coat of grass!. I am by the Sea, and I saw my Dealer replace my rusted Rotors. In fact they all rust, no biggie, check yours. True my LX was one of the first made on 09/30/05, and had a few scratches, so invest in a sharpie marker or Hyundai paint pen. As far as bodywork, the bodywork ploy allowed me to purchase a discounted GLS V6 with all options, and then turn the deal upside down, walking away with a fully loaded LX, as the GLS "went missing"?. And even though I will stick with my figures as certified by averiegejoe, , all I paid was a trade (a low mileage Elantra), and a check for $9250. To obtain that special price, we are looking at a $17K V6 LX, with all options & all rebates included, add T & L, lol :)
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
If this is true then it is a major change for the Hyundai extended warranty. In the past it has always been fully transferrable to other owners--including the 10 year powertrain warranty. You might ask to see the warranty documents to confirm this. Sometimes salespeople are mistaken on details like that.

The warranty prices are negotiable. You can buy the Hyundai extended warranty from any dealer. You might call around and see what kind of offers you can get.
