Any one have any links to pic's/info on the EB premium option? As I mentioned in my last post I will be ordering an 04' and I think I want that option.

On another note, I test drove a new 04' today and did not experience any vibrations on the highway.

Customeyez,

I was in to the local Ford dealership and they now have pics of all the changes for the Premium edition package.

It is basically the monochromatic paint job, different wheels, different headlights and that is it. The funny thing is that the wheels look remarkably similar, as do the headlights and the only notable difference I see is the paint. The paint does make it look different, but I kind of like the 2 tone color on the EB. I think it breaks up the line of the vehicle and makes it look a little smaller than the large vehicle it is.

For $900, it seems to me that the 'differences' in the packages ought to be more notable. I'm still having a hard time understanding why Ford has not one pic of this on the website.

Thanks for the info! I will go to the dealer and take a look. I am/was hoping the wheels would look better then the ones that come standard EB.

I have been going nuts looking for pic's on fords site.
• blockislandguyblockislandguy Member Posts: 336
While I haven't seen the monochromatic paint on the EB, I have on the Navigator. For $1100 you get the front facia, rear facia, and the wheel moldings painted in the same color as the body. Period. All in all something a local body shop could do for $300. On the Navigator anyway, they didn't even anodize any of the large amount of the chrome, black, nor do the side mouldings. I think they could have done a much better, more complete job if they wanted a classier, monochromatic look. (Just imagine how classy the roof rack would look if done in anodized black on a black body).

I went to my local dealer yesterday and they claim to have seen a marketing slick on this option (they could not find it for me at the time) and it showed exterior changes on one side and interior changes on the other. The said the will email me the pic's. I can pretty much picture the monochrome option but I am mostly interested in seeing the wheels and headlights. If I get the pics I will post them.
• tourguidetourguide Member Posts: 190
customeyez,

The marketing slick I saw had no (that I remember) interior shots. Does the interior have a monochromatic scheme too? I wonder if the leather is all one color on the premium edition. This would seem to command more of the sticker this option group is boasting. Although all they'd have to do is take the leather out of the XLT line to make this work.

I saw pics of wheels (I could be wrong, but they looked like a 17" version of the F150 rims), headlamps (which looked like an Explorer with the dual cones), and closeups of the grill (painted to match the body), and a wide angle side shot to take it all in.

I'm going to have to see more pics and I want to see it in person. My local dealership is getting one in. Apparently they ordered one some time ago. I asked them to let me know when it comes in. I'll take my digital cam and take pics when it arrives. That could be a number of weeks yet though.

TG,

I went to the dealer and it sounds like I saw the same marketing info you did. It did not show any interior shots, the rims where not impressive, the monochrome bumpers, grill and cladding looked nice, and I could not tell the difference in the head lights over the standard EB. One other thing, it had a chrome tipped exhaust. My dealer told me they ordered one also, but I don't know when it will be in. I am waiting to see one before I order that option, if you get any pic's I would thankful if you could post them, I will do the same.

Just picked up our new 04 EB 4WD last weekend with regular gold cladding. Checked out one black EB with the Premium Package. Not worth the money. I'll tell you the truth -- it looks cheaper than the regular EB trim. Anyone who doesn't know this is a "premium" Expedition option will think it's a bottom-of-the-line model and think you couldn't afford the two-tone. IMHO.
• m6chem6che Member Posts: 18
Oh, sorry, this is the pricing board -- Our 2004 is the Eddie Bauer 4WD (5.4L 8 cyl 4A).
It includes:
Nav system, Rear entertainment DVD, AdvanceTrac, Climate controlled seats, Safety Canopy airbags, power 3rd seat, trailer tow pkg. MSRP is $49,085 incl delivery.

We got it from Lithia Ford, Concord, CA with a total of $11,000 in "discounts", $7,000 dealer, $3,000 Ford cash, $1,000 Ford Motor Credit. They matched Diablo Ford in Pittsburg, CA which runs an ad each week for this deal on loaded EB models. Their deal applies to any EB with an MSRP of $48-50K. So you should currently expect $7k discount by the dealer, the $3k from Ford, and $1k if you're willing to go to the effort of refinancing since FMCC's rate isn't great.

We took the FMCC loan only to get the $1,000 rebate. We are going to refinance the FMCC loan (6.2%) with our credit union after the first payment to get our CU's 4.25 loan rate. (Note that the FMCC loan is simple interest, no pre-payment penalty.)

Anyway, I had the salesman from Diablo Ford call me while the deal was being inked but not yet signed; I would have just gone over there to get the same vehicle if there had been a problem. Theirs was a Wedgewood Blue. No reason to, as the sales service at Lithia was very good, everything was smooth, no pitch for extended warranty, just add sales tax and license.

The dealerships are: Lithia Ford, Concord, CA, or call Diablo Ford in Pittsburg for the same deal.

I am interested in the following 2003 EB 4wd with Moon roof, advance trac, Climate seats, Safety Canopy and Trailer Tow, MSRP is 45,955 Invoice is $40,236-3000(incentive) = $37,236
What deals are going on in Mid NJ (Morristown)area and what can I expect to pay. Any recent experiences ?

When going to the AAA site to price out the 2004 EB 4WD I was unable to specify the Advance Trac and Air Suspension on the same order. DOes any one have both these options on their Expedition
• drmad7drmad7 Member Posts: 4
Glad you asked about this. I bought my '04 Expy in January and just started questioning the Advance Trac emblem on the back on the truck. I knew it was not listed as an option on my window sticker so I thought I had received an option that I didn't pay for(a freebie!). Since I have the Air Suspension and the Limited Slip I was curious. I called Ford and they looked it up, called the dealership, and then called me back. They said that the emblem was a factory mistake and that you CANNOT have the Air Suspension along with the Advance Trac. I called the service dept and the guy there said the same thing. I don't know why exactly, but he did say that if I bring it in for service, they would ignore the emblem and look for the air suspension system ( I asked about removing the emblem). He says that the system has to be turned off if the vehicle is gonna be on a lift of any kind or the air bags will explode. And that they were an expensive fix. I would recommend the Air Suspension option if you are gonna tow anything and its an option that you can't add later. It'll add to the value( I think).
• gheimurgheimur Member Posts: 88
Thanks for your answer, As I probably won't tow anything, I think I'll go with the Advance Trac
as Safety is my #1 priority.
• jeff88jeff88 Member Posts: 94
gheimur,

That's exactly the configuration I'm looking at right now. Have 2 prices already, with rebate I am looking at less than 17,500 on each quote. Hope this helps.
• tourguidetourguide Member Posts: 190
>>>with rebate I am looking at less than 17,500 on each quote. Hope this helps.<<<

Don't you mean $37,500? I think this is the reasonable range for X-Plan pricing like you're talking about.

I am going to hold out for a late build 04 or an early build 05 with the new 3 valve 5.4. It is supposed to be coming for sure in the 05 production run. It is the new motor in the 2004 F-150. I'm holding out for one of those.
• jeff88jeff88 Member Posts: 94
ooops.

yes, meant $37,500. Think it was about $37,300 or thereabouts.

Am not going to hold out for the 3v engine since my wife wants this thing done months ago. Have read varying opinions about the performance of the current 5.4 ranging from a dog to quite powerful. Our experience is that performance appears fine though we have not had one in the rockies nor have we towed anything. My guess is that the 3v would also give better gas mileage based on a better power to weight ratio. If we were to get 14 to 18 city/highway, I'd be pretty happy for a truck this size.

also, the dealer is going to customize the truck. we have a 3 car garage, each a single door, each a maximum of 96" across. the expedition eb width is 94.1" from mirror tip to mirror tip. the dealer is going to contact me today about how they will mount navigator mirrors on the eb and place a switch in the truck to power fold them in. this leaves a max width of 80" (from outside running board across) that will neatly fit in the garage w/o manually folding both sides. so far, the mirror, fitment, functionality to the eb is the same. both are heated, both angle down in reverse, both look and mount identically, both are black; slight differnce in the turn signal lens color. the dealer, has been amazing in how responsive they've been on making sure they can do this. other local dealers punted on trying. am hoping this type of effort carries over to maintenance and support. the mirrors will add a bit more to the price and am also considering buying an extended warranty. otherwise, we'd be buying a sequoia ltd w/ power folding mirrors instead.

anybody know the invoice costs of the extended warranties? thanks in advance.
• gheimurgheimur Member Posts: 88
Thanks Jeff88. I always get extended warranties.
As as I already have some Ford vehicles, 2001
Escape, 96 Taurus, plus a 2003 Saturn and 95
Voyager (as soon as the Voyager goes with 159,300
I'll be getting the Expy and have looked into
extended warranty's. Found this site regarding
a discounted Ford Warranty at http://www.fordwarrantycentral.com. I usually go with a 100k one and it has usually paid off.
With the Escape at 49k, I have only had 1 or 2 minor items. On the other hand my sister-in law with a 2002 Honda Odyssey had to have the tranny
rebuilt at 42k. It definitely paid off for her....

Will check out the site.
• blockislandguyblockislandguy Member Posts: 336
Jeff88, just wondering. How do you feel about a 2003 Nav with the power folding mirrors for the same price as the 04 EB? With the ued Nav you would get the same three years (the 03 Nav had 4 years, presumably one is now gone) of warranty, better interior, cleaner exterior, the correct mirrors, much less depreciation going forward because the big hit has already happened, etc.
• jeff88jeff88 Member Posts: 94
hadn't thought about that. have to say I'm not a real fan of the looks & isn't the 3rd row smaller on the Nav?

We already ordered the expedition and are awaiting confirmation of arrival date. Good suggestion, though.

I was wondering if anyone in the Chicago area can point me in the right direction for a dealer who is dealing on the 2004 expeditions. I would appreciate the help.
• tourguidetourguide Member Posts: 190
I've been quoted a price of $41,633.82 on an order for a 2004 (Fire Red) EB - 4x4 with

- Heavy Duty Trailer Tow Package
- Rear Seat Entertainment DVD w/Wireless Headphones
- AdvanceTrac® w/Non-Limited Slip Axle & Message Center
- 1st & 2nd Row Safety Canopy™ w/Rollover Sensing
- 2nd Row Captain's Chairs
- Climate Controlled Heated and Cooled Seats w/Power Passenger Seat and Power Rear Quarter Vent Windows
- 3rd Row PowerFold™ Seats

This is an out-the-door price and includes sales tax (6% in MI) and fees. This figure is a hair under what Edmunds TMV pricing comes out to.

Most of the other dealerships I checked on price were $1000-$2000 more than the one I am probably going to buy from.

I just bought a 2004 EB Expedition for 10K off MSRP 40,360-10,000=30,360 + TTL this was after $4000 in rebates which included the FMCC rebate of $1000. This was 3-4 weeks ago. I have seen one dealer advertising EB's for $11K off this is in the DFW area.
• jeff88jeff88 Member Posts: 94
We'e picking up our '04 eb tonight that is optioned just like yours except it does not have the power fold 3rd row or rear seat entertainment. it does have the moonroof and we also are paying $1000 forblack lincoln navigator mirrors to be mounted for the fold-flat capability. (narrow, 96" garage door openings.)

our total/drve-off price w/ttl is 40,717 @ 6.25% tax rate. your deal looks pretty good to me. we also got the estate green color since we're in a hot climate (lighter) but have to admit that the red and medium wedgewood blue colors also loked really good on the eb. best wishes for your mission.

btw, if anyone is interested in brand new expedition mirrors in basic black, I have a pair... ;)

I was able to locate an X-Plan number and ended up with an all inclusive price of $40478.00 on an order from the factory (optioned as noted in my last post). I placed my money down today to start the process. It should be 6 to 8 weeks and I'll be driving it off.

All in all I was happy with the price I got. X-Plan ended up saving me ~$1500 give or take. I am glad I was able to get a pin.

In this process I did my homework and I've been researching this for some time so my expereince was good.

Oh FYI - If you're looking for extended warranties. I've come to the conclusion in shopping ESP plans around that it is better to buy these online, at least in this area. Every dealership I've talked to wants MSRP for the plan I'm interested in (7 yr/100,000 mile - $0 deductable).

Looking for an Expy to replace lemon Honda Odyssey...
Been reading these forums for info & have come across a few mentions of "X-Plan" for better prices. Would someone kindly explain & give info on where to find this plan?
Thank You
• tourguidetourguide Member Posts: 190
X-Plan is a special pricing incentive for (it is intended for these people) employees of parts suppliers to Ford. In the past couple of years this has been expanded to anyone. All you need to do is find someone who works for a Ford supplier and is willing to give up one of the pins they are supplied with each year. (there are a limited number given to each employee)

X-Plan pricing is invoice - ~$200 or (MSRP * .87)= X-Plan pricing. It is a good price and *should* be the same no matter what dealer you go to. The only people getting better prices than this are A or D Plan people (employees working on the assembly line, or for a dealership).

Hello, I was just quoted the following price for an EB expedition 4X4 of 43174 with the X-plan prior to rebates for the following:
-Nav System
-Power 3rd Row Seat
-Tow Package
-Power Moonroof
-2nd Row Captain Chair
-Saftey Canopy
-Air Susp
-Climate Control Seats

The sticker price is 48,940. After rebates I can walk away with 38,174 w/o tax. With tax added it would be about 40464.44. Is this a good price? I expected the X-plan price to be a little more then $77 below invoice. Any feedback would be appreciated. Should I take it, this was the first offer I received without looking anywhere else, should I continue to look.

Thanks
• tourguidetourguide Member Posts: 190
X-Plan pricing 'should' enable you to choose the dealership you want as price is supposed to be the same no matter what dealership you go to. At $77 under invoice (that sounds a little high to me too) I bet you they forgot the doc fees or somthing similar. In my experience, even with X-Plan pricing NOT all dealerships came in at the same price and this sloppiness in pricing for this plan was common.

It WAS a surprise to me as the dealerships themselves can get into trouble for selling an X-Plan vehicle at a price higher than they're supposed to.

Bottom line - DO get two or three other prices for the SAME optioned vehicle (apples to apples).

I bought an '04 NBX (off-road version; used to be called FX4) last March. It has:

- 5.4L
- Leather
- Powerfold 3rd row

MSRP was $41,310 and I paid the invoice amount of $36,965 less $400 for the college graduate. Also got 60 mos at 0.0%. I bought the truck in Texas, but am an Oregon resident...so no sales tax.

The quote was a no-haggle internet price. Since there were only about 3 or 4 NBXs in all of Texas at the time, I was more than happy with the price.

I bought it at New Braunfels Ford, just North of San Antonio.
• newdoc2002newdoc2002 Member Posts: 7
Careful about the no sales tax. Wherever you register the vehicle when new will want to know where the tax was paid and the state will want their share on these big ticket items. It's called a use tax in many states and on these registered items, it's hard and illegal to get away with not paying the tax. FYI.

Just bought a new Eddie Bauer Expedition on Sunday. We got $14000.00 off MSRP, which works out to be $8,756.00 under invoice. Even if you minus the rebates we are still way under invoice.

I looking at buying an Expedition. I've found a 2004 and the dealer has made this initial offer:

Eddie Bauer 4x4
MSRP 50185

The car has:

58F Nav system
91V DVD entertainment
90D Climate seats
87P 3rd row power seats
67D Safety curtain airbags
536 Tow package
47T Advanced traction
43M Moon roof

Std Rebate: -4500
Matching rebate: -5500
If I finance -1000

Resulting total 40098

Good or bad?

Thanks

First off, take the rebates off the INVOICE, not the MSRP. Factor in the holdback too (I think it's 3% of MSRP plus another 1.25% if the dealer is a blue oval dealer) and make an aggressive offer. Heck, it's already a car that's a year old! They can't expect a king's ransom for it anymore. I did a quick check on Carsdirect and it came up with a target price of $39,284. Try it with Edmunds and any other service you can find. I can find dealers here in the metro DC area offering $11,000/$12000 off MSRP on these trucks without even trying too hard. I found one dealer selling what appears to be an Expedition very similar to yours for $34900 (w/nav/dvd). It might not have everything yours has but I bet it's realy close (they didn't say the MSRP tho). So the point is, your offer is ok, but IMHO, you can do much much better. Especially since it's an '04. Sure hope you like the truck, because, afterall, THAT'S what's really important.

Good luck, and keep us posted.
• jhs70jhs70 Member Posts: 213
Sorry to follow up on my own reply, but here are some #s for you.
Invoice $43,834
minus all rebates $11,000
net $32,834
The heck with holdback.
Factor in $750 profit and the total is $33,584. Offer it and see what happens. This is what I do when I buy and I've gotten some really great deals in the last few years. I have a hunch they'll consider it. ;)

Good luck.

Where do you live that you are getting a "5500 matching rebate?" That does not come up in my zip code (80226). All I get is the 4500 + 500 dealer incentive.
• lle1020lle1020 Member Posts: 2
Hi All,

thanks for the replys. First off,

This is the dealers 1st offer. We have not sat down at the table yet. I was surprised by the "matching rebate" but that is what they put down. They are throwing in $5500 right off the bat.

I will crunch some more numbers tonight but thank you all soooo much on the feedback and the example numbers. It gives me something to go on.

I do like the truck (as it is called) however I am concerned about the reliablity. Any thoughts? I know this is the prices paid place. Email me if you would like:

Ok well after much deliberation and number crunching I purchased my Expedition this morning. Here is how it turned out:

The total invoice on the car was 43,800

I offered 33,500. They countered with 34,500.

Final price out the door was

34,500 + tax, license, DH, etc.

That equates to about $9300 under invoice. Maybe not as good as possible but good enough for me. Plus... I talked them into throwing in the following free:

2 years of free maintainance (oil, etc).
2 year extended warranty (bumper to bumper) so total is 5 years or 60K. Includes free rental car for any service longer than 1 day.
Tires for life. 2 free sets of tires within 5 years.

Now I just hope that I don't have any major problems!

Thanks everyone for your help.

Curious if you checked into an 2005 with less options. It is already a year old. I just sold my 04 EB, 5.4L with 20K miles. I was stunned, resale dropped like a stone.
• markholbrookmarkholbrook Member Posts: 5
Hi Johnny,

I did check 05s. This was a very tough decision because we have a perfectly good 87 ford explorer and I have a wonderful 2001 toyota tundra. Both cars are in excellent condition and needed zippo for repairs since owning.

The decision to purchase something new was due to the fact the my son and I are doing more traveling and he needs room to spread out. Riding in the back of the Tundra was tough. We also moved to colorado and are just in general doing more day trips.

So our decision was to keep the two cars we have. Turn the tundra into a work truck (take shell off and use it to haul stuff with). Get me a larger SUV for these trips.

I looked at everything. The problem was the Sequioa which is really a Tundra just didn't do anything for me. For the extra $10K I got virtually nothing. None of the other big SUVs had as much to offer.

I rolled the dice on the Expy because my sister had one, a 2002 and loved it. I met several people in the area 2003s and one 2004 that all swore by them. Now I just hope that mine will not be a problem car. So far with 75 miles under my belt not one complaint.

I looked at the 05s but the dealer was dealing hard on the 04. I feel like I did well on the price. I don't plan to sell it anytime soon.

Sorry to hear about the price drop.

Mark.

If I understand your figures correctly you got that Expedition for $15,686 under MSRP?

MSRP $50,185

Final price $34,500

Thats a great deal in my opinion. on top of that you got them to throw in some free service.

The best offers I have gotten so far on '04 EBs are $9000- $11000 under MSRP.

As a rule of thumb, should my target price be more than $11,000 under sticker for an '04 EB?

Any guidance would be appreciated

jeff... do a search on something like 'ford extended warranties' btw, get a ford warranty, although some after market products may work.

maybe you should price getting 2 of your garage doors swapped for a double door. might be less headaches in the long run. have 8 1/2 foot wide doors, didn't have to fold in a mirror like my neighbor across the street to get the expy through it.

the 5.4 has plenty of power, it's just not available under light throttle. if you boot it, it will run; if that is important to you.
