Fishing: I suspect your quote is for the Standard Camry (not LE). I don't know how good the price is (auto or manual? other options? price after rebate?). These cars are typically advertised as "loss leaders" to get you into the showroom, but this price doesn't seem very low (Edmunds target price is $16.6k (manual), and $17.4k (auto) after $1000 rebate).

I had a similar experience 18 months ago when I purchased a Camry LE 5 speed manual for $16,999 (as per newspaper add). I specifically asked the sales manager if there weere any additional "dealer fees". He said no. When they tried to add the $399 for the VIN etching, I protested and explained the no additional fee promise. They backed off and made me sign some paperwork saying that I didn't want all the extra protection, etc. Having said that; I would look at the final price, possibly contact a few other dealers, and decide if it is a fair deal overall. Good luck!
  • ian721ian721 Member Posts: 93
I know this doesn't answer the questions about what the fee is for, but...

It really doesn't matter what the fee is or what that mumbo-jumbo stands for. Just make it clear to the dealer that you will consider all the fees, extras, etc. as part of the price of the car before you buy. Don't let them get away with adding fees onto a negotiated price.

In some places DPA equals Dealer Profit Added and it is a way to slip more dollars out of your pocket. I would not accept it without and acceptable explaination. Like many hidden charges the dealer added it and can wave it.

The best price so far I got is $23000 out the door. No dealer in Dallas, TX want to match OTD $22,200 that #1622 bought in Southern California.

Any sugestions to lower the price from dealer? Thanks

Bad experience with the TOI yesterday. After 40 min. negotiation, the salesman cannot accept our $22500 offer and want $23000 instead. As we leave the dealership, the salesman ask us to hold and agreed the OTD $22800 for 2005 Camry SE V6 MSRP$26455 with The Extra Mile Option Package B, Vehicle Shield Package and offer to add the tinted windows. As we go back to the office, the salesman said his sales manager decline the agreement and refuse to sale the car. This is horrible experience to me. The salesman is very courtesy and professional and said sorry to us, but I feel sorry for him to work under that manager.

This is my 1st post in this forum. Just want to thank everyone in this forum for great information.

    I paid $20666 OTD for 2005 LE 4cyl 5A with 36mo 0% finance under 8.1% tax rate.

    The car has GY/CF options.

The dealer also offered me 100K mile extended warrenty for $350. I think this is a great deal. Should I take it?

    Thanks.
  • ultratechultratech Member Posts: 142
Are you talking about 7 yr 100k Bump2Bump extended warranty for $350?

That's a no brainer... ( although you may already paid some of that on the car price)

I'm in the Dallas, Fort Worth Texas area. It should belong to southwest or South USA. Just like to share my experience in this group.

See my post message #1625 for the 2005 Toyota Camry STD 5 speed manual I bought back in the beginning of December 2004.

What is the MSRP of this LE V6 and what kinds of packages you have with this car. Thanks
  • taimaixutaimaixu Member Posts: 2
its the 2005 camry LE V6

    options include:

    1) floor mats

    2) moon roof

    3) 8 Speaker system

numbers 1 and 3 are included in every LE V6 being sold on the lot. I was unable to get the side air bag package or traction control on it. (a shame)

whatd you think of the price of 20,800?
  • pantrupantru Member Posts: 14
I am in Boston area and got a quote for a 05 Camry 4cyl. LE including my tradein.

    It has following options:

    a) Moonroof (SR option)

    b) JBL 3-in-1 (DJ option)

    c) Floor mats

I have a 97 corolla dx for trade-in with 117k miles on it. The dealer is giving the new car for 15,000(inclusive of dest. and rebate)+trade in.

The invoice price for this Camry is around 19,473 and MSRP is 21,885. Is it a good deal?

    thanks

I have recently been working with an internet sales person who quoted me a price (via email) for a car. I agreed to the price (via email) and now he says that he miss-quoted the price. What recourse do I have to hold them to the price they gave me?
  • slafaroslafaro Member Posts: 3
Can I expect to do better than a price of $17,800 for a new 2005 Camry LE 4 cyl w/ 5 speed automatic and w/ front side/curtain airbags? This includes destination charge and $500. rebate but doesn't include tax, fees and license?

The OTD price here in Southern Calif. is $19,500. Does anyone know what dealer in Southern Calif can beat that OTD price by Jan 3rd, the last day of the $500. rebate?

Also is it customary for Toyota to give an even higher rebate during Jan. or Feb. since it gets nearer to when the 2006 models start coming out?

    Thanks

Does anyone know why there are no V6 Camry's with VSC in the Southeast Region? I would like side airbags and VSC but there are none in the Southeast. Most seem to have the JBL upgrade and a few with side air bags but none with VSC. Is the case in the rest on the U.S.?
  • realoldgeekrealoldgeek Member Posts: 5
Here in the the Washington DC area (Central Atlantic region) all the V6 Camry sedans seem to be XLEs with both side/curtain airbags and skid control. Plugging in various zip codes at www.buyatoyota.com provides some clues as to the commonly available option combinations in each area. For example, I've only seen 4 cylinder Camrys with skid control in the Pacific Northwest.
  • xinyuxinyu Member Posts: 3
I think safety is more important than comfort and luxury. Theoretically, Camry has the advantege over Accord because of VSC option. Unfortunately, I can not find any LE or SE models coming with VSC option in my local dealers (Orlando). I will never purchase a camry without VSC option. From this forum, many people also complain that they can not find a camry with VSC option. I hope Toyota company realize such an issue and change their strategy in the future.

On 12/28 I purchased the above car from Toyota of Orange (Orange, CA)for their advertised price of $16,995, less the $500 rebate in effect in CA. As a result of researching Edmunds, following this forum since July, and obtaining several internet quotes, I know I got a great deal. The OTD price was $17,942. (sales tax of 7.25% is computed on the rebate too).

I'll relay my experience and other quotes I received in case it may benefit others who are shopping for a similar car in southern California.

Their ad in the Sunday paper (Register) for 12/26 stated they were offering 25 Camry LEs with a MSRP of $20,701 for sale at the price of $16,495 with the rebate applied. The ad (and others that appeared in the same paper) stated that their prices were only in effect for that day. I didn't see the ad until late Monday, but I went to their website and saw names and phone numbers posted for three internet/ fleet salesmen.

On Tuesday I called the name listed as "manager" of fleet sales and told him I was in southern Cal. for a few days and intented to buy a Camry within the next 48 hours. I mentioned the ad and told him if he had the color I wanted, at the price advertised, then he had just sold a car and I would be there within the hour to pick it up.

To my pleasant surprise he said they would honor the price in the ad. Of the colors I was interested in (Salsa Red, Mineral Green, & and Sky Blue) they only had the Salsa Red in the base LE automatic with just the floor mat option. He had the Salsa Red in both the taupe and the stone gray upholstery options. I looked at both, selected the taupe, took a test drive and he wrote it up.

I give high marks to the people I dealt with at Toyota of Orange. It was a professional transaction with no hype or unexpected add-ons. (I WAS offered an alarm system for $400+ that they supposedly install on the cars and remove if the buyer doesn't want it. I declined it, and there was no pressure to buy it). There were no offers of upholstery treatments, paint protections, warranty extensions, or the smoke & mirrors nonsense many of us have experienced before.

I brought a pre-approval letter for 60 month financing at 4.6% from my credit union and they offered me Toyota financing for 4.4% for the same term, which I accepted. (Rates have gone up since July). I was at the dealer for a total of perhaps two hours from the time I arrived, until the time I drove away in my new car. Oh, they gave me a free tank of gas too!

The best quote I had prior to going to Toyota of Orange was for $17,025 from Toyota of Oxnard, and $17,338 from Carson Toyota. My plan was to call Carson and see if they would match the Oxnard offer. I would have been happy with a price of $17,150. I never expected to buy a car from a newspaper ad, but when the ad mentioned they had 25 cars at that price (instead of the typical one or two) I figured they wanted to move cars.

I noticed that Fridays and Sundays seem to be the days that the full page Toyota ads appear, so watch those days if you are ready to buy. Patience pays off. Research pays off. Letting them know you are ready to buy now helps. (The fact that I was buying in the last few days of the month AND the year may have helped. Also it was raining, which may have helped. (Slow sales day?)

To all those that have posted your experience and knowledge of the Camry in these forums, THANK YOU! I just drove over 600 miles in the car today, returning home, and the car is great. The 5 speed automatic is a great transmission... on down grades, if you apply your brakes to slow the car's tendency to pick up speed, the trans. downshifts out of O.D. to help you stabilize your speed -- a great feature.
  • peterpanpeterpan Member Posts: 120
Wow! This is one of the best deals I've seen for LE !

Toyota of Orange offered to order a 05 SE 4cyl with GU option for me for $21.7K before TTL. I feel this is still high. I will wait until MY 06 to buy one off the lot with steep discount.

I have shopped cars all over the country and normally I find that Houston is one of the most competitve markets. Knowing my experience my uncle asked me to help with a camry purchase. However compare to all the prices posted here from California, I can't get anywhere close. So what's the deal?

I generally drive a pretty hard bargain but I can't get dealers to budge. For instance I offered several dealers offers of 3500 off a camry with sticker of 21,500 to 22,000. This is considereing that Texas has a $1000 rebate compared to $500 in CA. Nobody would even talk to me at $3500 off. Then I offered $3100 off. A couple dealers were encouraged enough to at least bargain but others didn't even return my phone call. In the end I got a car with Toyota MSRP of 21,460 for 18,700. A discount of 2760. I also got free floormats, window tint, seal protectant, glass etching, vin etch, and pinstripe. The dealer sticker for this stuff was like $2300, though we all know its not worth more than $500. So I figure my discount to be about $3100. This is after bargaining with 8 dealers, visiting 4, and walking on a deal ater he added $385 DPA fee. I really don't believe that these dealers were holding out on me knowing that I would buy anyways. They knew that I would walk if they didn't come down in price, but they chose not to sell to me anyways. Finally I had to buy today or risk losing the rebate, even though I know people in CA are paying much less.

Compare to CA. People just read the paper and walk out with a camry LE for like 17K. That's 3500 off sticker and the rebate is only 500. the post two prior to this got 4200 off and they were doing that on 25 cars. These cars are way below invoice even without rebate. How are they selling for so cheap? Have sales in CA been slow enough that dealers are really dealing to meet quotas? Is there some incentive in CA?

Are cars elsewhere flooded with dealer options? The typical car I saw had probably $1500 worth of useless dealer options. While its mostly worthless to me, I guess it cost something. Maybe all the dealer options have caused high prices in houston.

What is a new car dealer's (in Southen Calif) legal obligation if a buyer decides the day after buying a new car for cash, that the car just isn't for him?..

Doesn't like how the car handles and or is too big for his needs.

Does the dealer have to take it back?

Can the dealer withold some of the amount paid e.g the document fee, registration fee, $500. rebate if bought on the last day of the rebate?

    thanks

I don't think a dealer obligated to take the car back - you BOUGHT this car, the transaction did take place, the deal is done and closed. The problem is that this car can't be resold as "brand new" anymore - it's "used" now. Your best bet is to resell the car by yourself. Or get used to this car - you may start to like and appreciate it later. With all this said, however, why don't you talk to the dealer - strange things happen sometimes.

Now, if you to buy a different vehicle from the dealer instead, especially something pricier, it would make him interested and motivated...

Here in Oregon, I've seen 05 Camry LE automatics go for less than $17,000. There's a $750 rebate going on, but still that's a pretty cheap price. It seems the Camry LE has been a loss-leader in these parts. I scoured the paper, both locally and in Portland and I've seen LEs generally going for $16,800. There's no tax here, which makes the deal even sweeter. Doc fees usually turn out to be around 200 dollars.
  • slafaroslafaro Member Posts: 3
Thanks for your response gklatv..All that you said makes perfect sense..I will take your advice and get used to the car and I am sure I will appreciate it later. My main problem is that it was too wide for my parking space but a wider space just opened up so that problem is solved.. The car seemed massive in that space.. The car is a new 2005 Camry LE. Having driven an 88 Buick Regal for the last 12 years and this being my 1st Toyota I'm sure it will take some time to adjust to the height of it, the super sensitive steering wheel and also light touch of the accelerator and brake pedals and all those new buttons and gadjets...So it is a keeper...I gotta great deal too. $19,200 OTD.. 4 cyl, 5 speed automatic, + side/curtain airbags and floor and trunk mats....

    thanks

Hey Hokie, tough loss to Auburn.

Try darcars.com or millertoyota.com. I've found those two dealers to be pretty places to start your search. Their prices are pretty low. You can probably do better, but their numbers give you a real good place to start the process. You can use this info to shop around to other dealers. Keep in mind that VA has really HIGH dealer "paperwork" fees; it's limited to around $100 in MD. Also, beware of quotes that don't include the transporation charge. Some dealers get "cute" with that. Shop the numbers -- it's a virual lock that you can do better. If they start out low, you know they'll go lower. It's real competitive here!

A dropped touchdown, and a missed field goal will do it everytime, but hey this was a rebuilding year anyways.

Hey thanks for the websites, i never knew it was cheaper to buy cars in Maryland. The first site is great, right when i went on the site i found the car for $900 cheaper than i was looking already.

    Thanks,

As a post script to my buying experience at Toyota of Orange (msg. #1664), I received calls from two different people from the dealership during the past week, asking if I had any questions about the car and if I felt I had been treated well by them. Great after-the-sale service.

Then on Friday I got a letter from Toyota Financial, who I financed with at the time of sale, at 4.4% for 60 months. The opening sentence of the letter stated they wanted to modify the financing agreement. I thought, "what kind of joke is this... yeah, like I'm going to let them change the terms after I signed the agreement!" The next sentence said they wanted to lower the rate to 4.15%, dropping the payment about $3 per mo., or $180 in total interest over the term of the contract. I couldn't believe it! Naturally, I signed it and mailed it back. My buying experience got even better.

Has anybody else had this happen? What kind of rates on 60 month contracts are being offered now?

Go in BUYATOYOTA.COM and inquire about the car with all your desired options. The inquiry will go directly to the sales/marketing people at Toyota headquarter, and they should get a hint!

    To alpha01:

My 2005 Camry SE V6 has no extra packages; and the only accessory I bought is the floor/trunk mats.

After I paid $22,200, I found the car for a lower price of $21,885 at one of the Internet car sales websites.

Good luck, and enjoy your new Camry.

What can I expect to pay for the fully loaded XLE V6 with Nav (few accessories, too)? CarsDirect.com list the following:

    MSRP: $29,275

    Invoice: $26,273

CarsDirect Price: $26,023 (includes the $750 rebate)

What do you think would be a reasonable price at the dealership in the North East (Massachusetts or Conecticut)?
  • jhs70jhs70 Member Posts: 213
I'd offer $25,400 and see what they say. That's inv-$750-holdback+$500profit. A local dealer has an an xle v6 that msrps for 29,334 and you can get it just like that for 25,595 just for showing up at at the front door. If you were here (DC) you could no doubt get it for less. Carsdirect is a guide, not a bible. Be aggressive. Good Luck!!!
  • future1future1 Member Posts: 103
Can you explain what you mean by the "holdback"? How do you know what this amount is?
  • rutger3rutger3 Member Posts: 361
Okay, I am close to purchasing either an Accord LX or Camry LE/side bags. I like them both, so it may come down to price. Received a price of $18,500 before tax/title for the Accord. Live in New Jersey. What is the best price I could hope for on a Camry? Currently have a 99 camry with 171k miles.
  • peachtreecitypeachtreecity Member Posts: 10
Car dealers don't actually pay the full invoice price for a car. They pay the invoice price less a discount, called a dealer holdback. For Toyota dealers, the holdback is believed to be 2% of the base MSRP, not including options. So if a dealer sells you a Camry at the invoice price, he is still making about a $400 profit: 2% x $20,000 = $400.
  • peachtreecitypeachtreecity Member Posts: 10
That $18,500 price for an Accord LX seems low; I suspect there are dealer fees to be added to that. I found that a comparably equipped Camry LE (with side airbags) was about $800 less than an Accord LX, and I bought the Camry for that reason. Edmunds also shows that difference in prices. The cars are almost identical, and are both highly rated. The Accord does seem to retain its value better than a Camry, so if you only plan to keep it for a couple of years, you might want to buy the Accord.

I went to Jim Coleman dealership today looking for a XLE 3.0L V6. I test-drive it and am very happy with it ( I got a 05 LE Camry from the same dealership 3 weeks ago for around $18200 OTD w/ 5% tax and am satisfied with it. That is why I came back for a second car.) I went to Acura and Honda dealers earlier and decided to stick with Camry.

Here is the detail of the car:

4-door XLE V6, Model number 2554A, Accessories: FE GU HD 8E WL V2 DK CF.

    Vehicle Base Model: $25405.00

    Total Accessories: $2104.00

    Destination Charge: $540.00

    Total MSRP: $28049.00

    INVOICE: $25264.00

    Standard Specs:

    Engine: 3.0L V6 DOHC SMPI

    5-Speed Automatic Transmission

    Leather Seat Trim

    FM/AM Stereo w/6-Disc CD

    Major Optional Accessories:

    Driver & Passenger Heated Seats

Driver & Passenger side and curtain air bag system

    Vehicle Stability Control

    Carpet Floor/Trunk Mat

    VIP Glass Breakage Sensor

    Alloy Wheel Locks

I got a quote for $24000 after $750 rebate, plus $1242 for tax, $100 processing fee, and $208 for title and tag. So I am going to pay $25550 OTD.

CarsDirect.com list a similarly equipped car at CarsDirect Price: $24,765 (includes the $750 rebate)

I am wondering if this is a good price for this car in DC area? Is there any room for further negotiation?

Will decide to go to the dealer again tomorrow evening. Any suggestion will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    David

I believe you can get 2.9% financing now on the camry, and maybe even a $750 reabate if your credit is good. Check Toyotas website.
