The better deals you see here compared to TMV pricing reflects a couple important facts, in my opinion. First, TMV probably reflects a much larger range/sample of buyers. The majority of these people don't want to invest much more effort than is required to get the vehicle they want at a payment they can afford.
On the other hand, the people making the effort to study and track these forums represent a small segment of the market that spends much more time researching the best price. Let's face it, these people (US), are nerds about this stuff. For some of these people (myself included) coming as close as possible to getting the best available deal is a big part of the whole experience.
Whether they do or not depends on patience and not trying to learn everything you need to know starting Thursday so you're ready to buy on Sunday.
Also does anyone know if toyota was offering the college grad $400 last month in California?
The salesperson and finance guy insisted there was none @ the moment.. If I find out otherwise, i'm gonna go back and complain.
For those who missed my previous post:
My gf bought 2005 LE Auto in Blue, Floor+trunk mats @ Wondries in Alhambra, CA Mid November
$17500 - 500 Rebate
+ tax 8.25%,tittle $200-300 I think , fees $50
Around $18,650 out the door
$15977 + TTL.
Base model $17,000
rebate (500)
automatic 743
airbags GY 560
warranty 900
alarm 250
destination 540
service credit(150)
Total $19,343
License 150
Tax 1,600
Total $21,093
I purchased the 100K/7 year no deductible warranty with a purpose - my real intent here is to drive the Camry for about a year or two and then sell to get what I really want, which is the 2006 Avalon. But I don't want to pay MSRP for the Avalon in the spring of 2005, so I will just wait it out. I HAD to buy a car now, because my 1999 Avalon with 150K miles needed about $3K to $4K to repair (tires, engine, brakes, strange rattles in the rear axel etc etc).
With respect to the alarm system, I just got lazy...the dealer said the thing was already installed, and it would help me get the car quicker if they left it installed. I said I could not pay $500 for something I did not want, and they agreed to split the difference. I'm not proud of this detail, but I was in and out of the dealer in 90 minutes.
The service credit was some stuff I asked for at the very end of the deal, and represents work they will perform for free (for example, they will install the new Camry tires on the old Avalon alloy wheels).
Finally, the finance rate was 2.9%.
The old Avalon will be donated to a charity and may it RIP.
1. What's a good price for a 0 deductible "gold" level warranty ?
2. Is it worth it to gor for the "platinum level", and what's a good price for that ?
On my current Camry I did not have teh extended warranty, but many of the problems developed after 7 years so having it would proabbly have been braek-even at best. Just wondering what peopel on this forum think - is it worth buying this ?

I am researching to buy a Camry XLE. I am looking for some information about the navigation system, its standing, peformanc,e ease of use, replacement CDs cost, etc.
Thanks.

Anybody had experience getting new graduate rebate for purchasing a Toyota
car? Should I talk to dealer directly or I have to get some paperwork from Toyota first?
Thanks...
MSRP is 22395 + 540 (dest) + 650 (air bags) + 410 (wheels) + 186 (mats) = 24181
Invoice is 20873 + 540 (dest) + 559 (air bags) + 328 (wheels) + 114 (mats) = 22414
There is a $500 rebate in California.
I have an offer of 21499 from Freemont Toyota (21999 - 500 rebate) (just by email, no bargaining as yet)
carsdirect.com price is 21349 (21849 - 500)
There is a Piercey Toyota newspaper ad offering 2588 off MSRP on all Camrys in addition to 500 rebate. SO I should be able to get this for 24181 - 2588 - 500 = 21093 at Piercey Toyota.
Comments on this price ? Does this seem like a good price for the package ? I bought my previous Camry from Piercey Toyota in 1992 and they are straight shooters, so I expect I will be able to get the 21093 price without any hassels. Should I just go for it or is there more bargaining to be done ?
I especially have a question about the 540 destination charge. Does the MSRP of 22395 for the base xle include this charge ? Two separate dealers have quoted me an msrp which is 22395 + 540 (ie, dest charge is to be added to the msrp). If that's true, then the 21093 price seems reasonable. If that's not true, I should take 540 off and hope to get the car for 20553. Comments ??

Carsdirect.com makes a profit if you go through them, which means its price is already too high. The Piercey price sounds good. Try to get an Internet quote from Hayward Toyota. I bought a Corolla from them a week ago. Now that you have an advertised price, see if another dealer would beat it.
I checked with AAA on Saturday and their 7 YR, 100,000 mile warranty matched the Platinum Plan for Toyota. The AAA price I was quoted was $1627. I know a handful of dealers try to sell it around this amount.
I am planning on purchasing the Platinum Plan for 7 yr/100k with no deductible for no more than $1000. I've called a handful of dealerships in various states until I was able to come across a dealer that was interested.
I did the same thing for my brother-in-law who bought a Honda and initially paid $1750 for the warranty. I managed to get him his warranty for $850.
I do not work for a dealership. You can see a few of my earlier posts that I've been researching to buy the Camry XLE with navigation for about 2 months. I am finally picking up my car in Maryland on December 29th as the cars with Navigation are not that common.
If you want the dealer information, just email me (acklarry@yahoo.com) and I will try and get back to you.
Thanks,
Ack
Also, does anyone have any experience or recommendation for dealers in the NY Dutchess County area? Thanks.
Anybody have experience with this "TDA fee" on a Camry ? How much negotiating room do I have with this fee ?
I'll be very interested in responses to this message, also!
2005 Camry LE with driver and passenger side & curtain airbags option.
$17,600 after $750 rebate plus $100 processing fee.
This is equivalent to $1,750 under invoice.
Local tax is based on $$18,350.
Will the price get better later in December?

When I was there last week, all of their in stock lunar mist LE with side & curtain airbags are damaged (scratches).
They will sell you one at these price ONLY if you agree to purchase their $875 "maintenance package"! I'd stay away from them.
Also, the rebate is $500 in the Chicago market ...so would $1500 under invoice the rule of thumb here?
Thanks!
The Camry has a theoretical safety advantage over the Accord in that stability control is available on all models. However, one Atlanta dealer did a search and found only 5 Camry LE’s here in the southeastern United States equipped with the VSC option (package “GUAT”). The dealer also wanted to charge $700 extra for that option package (full MSRP should be only $650 more than the side-curtain airbags alone in the “GYAT” package).
Pushed to compete with Honda’s current 1.9% APR financing for 60 months, Toyota dealers offered either a $1,000 rebate –OR- 0.0% APR for 36 months, 1.9% APR for 48 months, or 2.9% APR for 60 months. (The lower APR would be a better deal for most people.) Of course, unless your credit is stellar, the finance person could claim that you don’t qualify and try to stick you with a higher rate unless you’re prepared in advance.
Several dealers noted that Toyota’s powertrain warranty is 5/60 instead of Honda’s mere 3/36.
Overall, the competition is closer than I expected.
I'm taking the extra money and buying the Extended Warranty.
As great as it is to get the best price, you have to be comfortable with the dealership. I spoke to a handful of the other dealers there and didn't have as comfortable of feeling. I'll pay the extra $200 to $300 knowing that I can pick up the phone at any time and I'll have a call back at the worst 24 hours. I did not have as much success dealing with a few other of the dealers over the phone.
I failed to mention that they had to order my vehicle as not many XLE V6's with Navigation were in the area. It's taken some time, but it should be worth it.
Does anyone have any experience with XM being installed in the 2005 Camry's? Any feedback is appreciated.
2005 XLE V6
VSC + Side Airbag
Heated Seats
Carpet Floor/Trunk Mat
Adj Pwr Acc Pedal
All for $24,400 + tags and taxes. This price includes deduction for $500 cash rebate. I could have have gotten it a little cheaper from a NYC dealer but why bother.
This price is probably as good as I can get around here.
I just bought a Camry LE (2532) w/ 'GY' option (side bags), and floormats for.. $18,070 after $500 rebate from a Piercey in north san jose (through the internet dept). The carsdirect price was 18,912.
I was a little bummed when I got home because I had a message that Hayward Toyota offered the same car (minus floormats?) for $17,777 (after rebate).
Overall however, I really preferred the internet experience to the normal car buying experience. No one budged much from their initial price until I told them "I am leaving to pick up the car from.. and I plan to pay this much, call me within an hour if you think we can do business." That is what it took to get serious price movement, but unfortunately the lowest bid came a couple hours later. If I had to do it again I would send the same message, a day before I plan to buy.
In my case today.. I really wanted to get a car asap (been w/out one for a month) so I ended up paying a little more. Hope this pricing helps someone out.
Toyota had to prod the local dealers a few times before they sent me a quote for about $2,800 below invoice. The quote did not mention AT so I assume it's a manual trans car. I have to have AT and the SE trim.
The SE's firmer suspension coupled with the VSC should reduce the probability of losing control of the car in emergency maneuvers, thereby reducing the probability of causing accidents and fatality/injuries.
I was driving a 93 LE with 150K miles, at night at about 65MPH, in dry and sunny San Diego a few months ago. When I changed lane quickly to avoid merging traffic, the car wobbled from left to right, with the struts appearing to travel the whole range, while the car careened and fishtailed on 2 freeway lanes for about 30 seconds before it stabilized.
I seriously thought the car was about to flip over. Did you ever watch any cops and robbers movies where cars were made to stumble over and over? It's not physically impossible. OTH it even looks like an easy trick, doesn't it?
Luckily I had a couple years experience driving in snow and ice in upstate New York (hi Alpha!) which I put to good use. I gently went along with minimal control correction until the car stabilized itself. If I had panicked and reacted harshly, the car could have gotten much more unstable!
The dealer said that the FWD design coupled with worn struts could have caused the instability. I woud rather spend an extra $1000 for the GU option than facing the same instability again!
When this dealer actually shows me the 4cyl SE with AT and the GU option, I will test out the VSC (hopefully not the airbags) before I even start talking money to them!
