This is my first time buying a new car. Last week went to talk to a local dealer in Salt Lake city, and he said, "I won't sell the car for $1 below the invoice because I paid the invoice price". Make me so frustrated. Anyone knows how to deal with guys like this? Thanks a lot!
  • indianriderindianrider Member Posts: 30
Ignore them. They are not the only dealers. It is not you who is losing but them.

If the dealer is rude, do the same to him. If the dealer is rude, just blast him in front of other customers so that the others do not deal with him and then walk out. Here is a case of a dealer being rude - The dealer will say that it is a joke that anybody will sell for below invoice and laugh / smirk at you. I consider that rude.

If they are not rude and do not give u a good deal, walk out. They are losing ur business.

Considering that buying a car is one of the most expensive purchase we make it should not be stressful. There are a lot of Toyota dealers all over. You don't need to put up with obnoxious or rude behavior and feel frustrated.

I purchased my last car by going through Edmunds.com and Cars.com., they put in touch with several Toyota dealers around, they contacted me with a price. I arrived at the dealership and they gave me no games, gimmicks, bull, rude or obnoxious attitudes. I also received a very decent price for the car. In 20 minutes I bought the car, and waited 2 pleasant hours chatting with the staff while the car was being prepared and alarmed. I will never walked into a showroom cold turkey again. That's my opinion. Others with a stronger stomach for negotiations and more savy will use other strategies.

    Good luck!

I've recently purchased Camry STD 2005. I noticed that some of 2005 STDs came with no ABS. Does anybody know how to find out whether my car has it?
  • meppmepp Member Posts: 5
The dealer invoice was $25059.00, and we got it for $600 below, so $24,459. Also, we got a $700 rebate which was applied to the after-tax amount.

    The invoice shows

    TDA ........................................: $ 325.00
    Dealer Holdback ............................: $ 511.00
    Whsl. Financial Reserve ....................: $ 255.00

so I probably could have haggled down the price another couple hundred dollars.

    Hope that helps.

Open your hood. On the left side of the engine compartment as you're looking at it facing it, if it has what looks like a block of aluminum with a bunch of small (1/8" inch diamater or so) tubes sticking out of the top of it, with right angle bends, it has it.

    Hope this helps.

Just talked with a guy from 355Toyota in Rockville, here in Maryland. He said that there is a $750 rebate or something, but not a $1000 rebate. Not sure if he's talking about just 355Toyota, or fo Maryland in general.

Does anyone have any info or current information about the $1000 rebate in Maryland?
  • weez126weez126 Member Posts: 6
I am currently looking for a Camry in MD also. Every place I have looked the rebate is $750.

    Thanks!

Since our Camry shopping experience was not positive, we ended up buying a Honda Accord LX. The price is comparable to Camry LE, but it also has side airbag.

The Honda salesman is a very nice older gentleman. I decided to buy from him even before the car is there.

Hi, could someone let me know whether "OTD" price means everything (after tax and all fees)? So I should negotiate the "OTD" price, not the before tax price? Sorry ask such a dull question, coz a little bit confused. Thanks.
  • edge71edge71 Member Posts: 12
OTD=Out The Door. So basically, it means how much smaller your wallet is at the end of the day, tax, fees, rebates, and all.
  • edge71edge71 Member Posts: 12
could you tell me about your experiences a little if you've been around to dealers and such? i'm planning to check out 355toyota on Rockville Pike tommorw, but i'm really not sure what kind of price I should be looking for. I'm just looking for a base Camry LE, but havn't really been able to get a feel for what a good price is.
  • chsunchsun Member Posts: 1
Picked it up yesterday at Fremont Toyota in Fremont, CA. Car price $18,565(chose 0%APR instead of $1000 discount), plus tax (8.25% ), license, doc. fee, and pre-paid service plan ($995 for up to 4year/55k miles) OTD $21350. This was the only white one available in the area. Could do better on gray or green or black ones.

Just got called a liar and a crook by a manager at 355 as I was pulling out of their dealership to leave.

The guy dealing with me was a nice guy, his boss/manager wasn't I guess. Basically, don't go to 355, they're not worth the trouble of wasting your day.

    hey terrygut,

could you tell me what you payed for your Camry STD 2005, and whether it is auto or manual?

Am considering an 2005 Camry LE Auto with side airbags in LA area.

Best quote on Internet I got was $17,617 + Fees (Net after factory rebate) from a dealer in Culver City.

Anybody has better deals? Or other dealers to recommend?

Looking to get the car by end Aug 05.

    I've gone to
Frederick Darcars= Sales person was pretty nice, selection didn't have car I wanted with options and color. Price was pretty close to what I wanted.
Koons Westminster= Have great selection of cars I want. Sales people are also nice. Price is Really high. (currently trying to deal with them)
Silver Spring Darcars =Great selection. Price was High didn't want to deal on the "special Model" I wanted. Sales people were worst I've dealt with. Either didn't know what he was talking about, or just lied to me a few times.
Most Darcars are offering 1500 below invoice. Print out the email though before you go in, and call the sales manager before hand. Koons in annapolis said they will beat that by 100 for me with their "Best Price Gaurantee". Currently trying to get westminster to match the 1500.
    Hope that helps.

I ended up getting a Camry STD from the Silver Sprint Darcars Toyota on Cherry Hill Road. I've really never been as offended and insulted as my trip to 355 Toyota on Rockville Pike. The guy literally came out and walked up to my car, which me and my mom were in. We had the windows down because it was hot, and he started yelling at me about how insulted he was by me and that I was a liar and a crook (presumably because I lowballed, and somehow he was offended by that to the point of flipping out). They offered me a Camry STD for 16,500 before freight, tax, etc. and after the 750 rebate and my sales guy's manager was very bent on not negotiating and told us to take it or leave it, so we walked out (which I'm pretty sure he hadn't anticipated). I have dealt with them in the past and they were fine, nothing amazing, so they're not all bad apples. But this experience was quite offensive, and I don't plan to ever return their to do business with them.

Today me and my parents walked out with a new auto Camry STD for around 17,500 OTD. They guys were all really nice, and the finance guy was really a pleasure to deal with. I don't feel like I got the best deal ever, but I don't think my parents wanted to go from dealer to dealer, so we just used one of the internet prices (16,806) as a basis for negotiation. Also tossed in the 400$ college grad rebate.

Anyways, let me know what you think of the price I got.

  • weez126weez126 Member Posts: 6
I think you got a good price. Is there much difference between STD and LE? Also I'm looking at the College rebate, with that did they give you a good %? How long do you have to stay with them before you can refinace with out penalty?

    Thanks

Thanks all of you for you info. i think i got a some decent deal based on all your valuable input.

i picked up a camry le with auto and SRS for 16850 (incl. 1000 off) in southern california (toyota of orange). I tried the dealers in sacramento region but they won't go lower than 18300. I did find another dealer with an advertised price of 16400 the morning i was in LA for the deal but i was to far into already it. oh well, still better than what i would have paid around in sacramento.

I am sure you know this but i am new into the car purchase process. I hope you find this useful in your search

    1. work with the fleet mgr only
    2. get pricing in writing after verbal pricing
    3. get the vin and a copy of the window sticker or invoice (to ensure the car exists and has all the features)
    4. confirm that they have the car in the lot (in writing)
    5. tell them not to bump you (i learned that this means upgrading you to a more expensive car) or play games
    6. have financing arranged in advance.
    7. validate the car's vin is the same as invoice/window sticker
    8. say No to the finance guy on options, upgrades, warranties, alarm.... it is generally cheaper as an after market.

    Hi everyone,
I am looking for a 2005 Camry LE or LE v6 auto in MD (around Rockwill or Bethesda). Would you please give me some information on the OTD you have got within 2 weeks?
Is it better to buy a 2005 Camry in the next month?
Could you please introduce something on how to negotiate with a dealer.
I know nothing about buying a car, please help
    thanks a lot

Power toyota in Cerritos has LE with side AB for 16688
North country toyota in anaheim for 16488 (they are also throwing in a 20 GC for daphne)

they are net prices. i got my at 16850 at toyota at orange.

    good luck.

    Hello mfu,

I am in Orange County too, and also planning to buy a camry LE within a week. Thank you very much for your information. Is $16850 the OTD price or the price before tax and rebate?

    thanks,
  • rnfurnfu Member Posts: 5
16850 is just the price of the car itself. the OTD price was 18400 (took the $1000 rebate). i live in N. cal so my tax rate might be a little bit lower.

btw, ask them for a full tank of gas. given how much fuel is these days, that is another $50 for you.

    good luck on your purchase.

The southeastern distributor for Toyota is offering $1500 cash back or it can be
applied to the down payment of purchase of a Camry LE 4cy/AT. With a $1500 offer like this, is the dealer likely to reduce his clearance discount? What kind of
price should I expect? Would a $17,500 offer before the cash back be reasonable
for me to make? (This LX has a MSRP of $20,500)

I appreciate the postings which are very informative. I am in the market to buy a Camry XLE but am unable to get info on the differences between the 2005 and 2006 for one. Also the car will be for export to overseas where I am transferred, therefore tax free status and shipping are important issues. Last, is it better and cheaper to get some options in the aftermarket such as navigation and audio system? Any comments, references, recommandations and/or suggestions are most appreciated. Thanks for yr attention and consideraion. :confuse:

Anyone knows what Camry style that comes with leather seats as part of the standerds? Does XLE come with leather seats? Thanks
  • rnfurnfu Member Posts: 5
couple of thoughts on this area. having lived overseas before, here are things to consider.

    1. fuel. given cars in California have strict emission standard, i wonder if the fuel at your destination will cause possible problems to your exhaust system if the grade of fuel is different than what is in US..
    2. service. at your destination, there might be a toyota dealer. however, sometimes the parts are different depending on the target market. they might have parts for a 2005 camry but for their local market. they are not always the same. also, this assumes that there is service and dealership that will work on your car.
    3. insurance. i doubt your insurance co. will cover you overseas. you might want to check into that
    4. local drivers. it is hard to believe but drivers in different countries do not necessary obey traffic laws. for instance, the lines on the road are irrelevant. so, just be prepared.
    5. lefthand or righthand side drive. in much of asia, it is a righthand side drive. not sure if you need special permit to do so. even if you don't, it might make things more difficult (paying at the toll booth, valet, drive through ...)

as for navigation, i think it runs off a DVD. if that is the case, you will need something for the local market.

    good luck

Thanks Richard for your interest and contribution with with pertinent remarks.

I think other than CA the car will be fine with premium gas
    Car will be insured locally
Decent dealerships for Honda and Toyota + there is always a quick exit to Spain if needed
Yes, local drivers are somethin else, so you have to adapt to their style otherrwise you are cooked

    Thanks again

I just bought dealer used camry for 16300 (OTD 17700). The car has 7200 miles on it. It's a Automatic Camry LE with sun roof and JBL Single CD Player. The car is in excellent condition and looks new. It is also still under warranty by Toyota. After reading some of the posts here, I am wondering if I paid right price for my car or not.

    Any comments.

I've been looking for a 2005 Camry LE with manual transmission. I test drove the only manual Camry at dealer #1 and her first quote was $17,650, give or take, plus a $750 Toyota rebate. I called dealer #2 and he had two to choose from. A telephone call to dealer #3 revealed that he had one. It is from him that I learned that LE manual transmission cars where either not being manufactured at all or at least not being made available in my area, western New York. He said he could do $17,500 plus the rebate for the Standard Camry, i.e. not the LE.

Last night I actually went to dealer #2 and confirmed that he had two standard, non-LE Camry's with manual transmission. Unfortunately, they both had the Z1 option, Preferred Accessory Package, which includes front and rear floor mats, cargo mat, cargo net, emergency assistance kit and first aid kit. While test driving the car I noticed a large piece of paper on the floor on the passenger's side. It had a date on it, in very large letters that said October of 2004. I don't know if that is when it was built or delivered to the dealer.

The dealer showed me the invoice. The car listed for something like $18,900 and the bottom line invoice price was about $17,660. After some price discussion and his spending ten minutes with two or three other guys, he said they could sell it for the invoice price but no lower because they would be losing money. I said that I wasn't interested in the optional package so the price at dealer #3 was better. I said that if his sales manager changed his mind to give me a call. We left on good terms.

This morning that same dealer had a commercial on TV that said, almost verbatim "We're overstocked. I want to give out customers a chance to make me an offer before I take some of these to auction".

They definitely had a lot of cars.

    Questions:

#1: When do the new 2006 Toyotas start showing up?

#2: What do I do to confirm that I actually get the Toyota rebate?

#3: Any recommendations on how to deal with dealer #2? He has a better color but I'm not sure I want to spend the extra money for a better color and that option package that I'm not interested in.

New 2006 Camrys are now on the inventory lists of several dealers. I cannot verify whether they are actually on the dealer's lot though since I have not been there.

I've found a 2005 Toyota Camry LE at what seems a good price and I was wondering about how rebates typically work. There's currently a $1500 rebate offer that expires on 08/31/05 and I was wondering if anyone had any opinions about the likelihood of another, better, rebate offer replacing that in the coming months. Do rebates typically increase as year-end approaches?

Thanks for any light anyone can shed.

I think you paid a fair price ( I am assuming it is a 4 cylinder 05 model). You could have done slightly better if are a skillful negotiator or if you checked out other Toyota dealers but if I were you, I would be happy with what I have gotten. Enjoy your Camry. It is a great car. :)
  • motownusamotownusa Member Posts: 836
Yes absolutely. If the dealer still has any surplus 05 Camry left in September or October you could do better. But the question is will they have any left.
