the charoal (which is basically black) I had a dark blue interior in my last car and it held up very nicely and didn't show too much wear or dirt.

The tan is classy. But I have a kid and at some point will get a dog. I need something that hides the dirt.

Now that I'm totally sure what colors and options I want, I can order the car from the broker and begin the long but happy wait for it to arrive.

but it isn't really a option for me being in Florida. Dark leather gets way to HOT down here. And my current car has light tan leather which is just to much of pain to keep clean all the time. So, going to try the Cab. color.

As, for exterior colors I have narrowed it down to Sunlit Copper or the Polished Pewter.

ppower, have you seen the Cab leather? Really? You're okay with it? Amazing. And good for you! I've never seen anything quite like that Cab leather...

What about cloth..? I think if I lived in a really hot, or a really cold climate I would consider cloth. And I've been very impressed with the Nissan cloth quality.

Hi. Just checking in after a few days away. To J. Fred Muggs...A quick measurement of the cargo area yields 36" from seatback to hatch trim, and 46" from inner wheel well to inner wheel well. Hope this helps.

Ppower and Cookie...I have the cabernet interior and really like it. It looked orange to me in the brochure, so I held off until seeing it "in the flesh." There's just enough brown in it to keep it from being too "hot." I really like it because it's different without being jarring. I've seen the black interior and like its richness. My "fallback" position was the Cafe Latte (though I haven't seen it), but I wanted something a little more interesting after having driven a car with a gray-on-gray leather interior for five years.

By the way, my exterior is Polished Pewter...a phenomenal color. It dark gray-green in most light, but actually appears gold under some sunny conditions. The combination of Pewter exterior and Cabernet interior actually works well...it's even received kudos from some of my more conservative friends.

One of the reasons I was drawn to the Murano is that Nissan seems to have taken a "no compromises" attitude in designing it (this also seems to be their philosophy in the new "Z," Maxima and even Quest). Whether its the exterior design, interior design, features or colors, you either like it or you don't...no wishy washy in-between. With the interior colors, at least we're given a real choice, and not just a choice of shades of gray.

BTW, the best thing about this car is that...I can't wait to get out of work to drive it!

Sorry...I forgot to comment on the smoke issue mentioned above. So far (just 450 miles), I haven't noticed any smoke streaming from my exhaust after turning off the engine.

Thank you Sean48 for taking the time to measure the Moo, but since Muggs sounds like a modest guy I'll speak for him... I think he wondered about the distance from behind the FRONT seat to the hatch, i.e., the full cargo area with the back seats down. You guessed it: I'm curious, too.

If I had access, I'd measure it for him, but that's a few weeks away.

    Many thanks.

    Thank you sean48,linzybel and ppower!
Yes, I did get a copy of Car and Driver and it is stated that a 73 inch x 46 inch panel or "sheet of plywood" will lay flat on the cargo floor.

Above the wheel wells, I think it would be quite possible to place a panel at least 50 inches x 73 inches. This would require support from underneath to raise the panel above the wheel wells. (An actual full sheet of plywood is 48 in. x 96in.)

The cargo area of the Murano is more than adequate for my needs. If I haul plywood I usually have it cut anyway.

I will be test driving soon and will report my experience. Hope to
purchase on Washington's birthday week. This forum is very helpful.

    Kind Regards,
    J. Fred Muggs

Just got a quote on an SL Murano. Loaded with everything except navigation system. No money down, except taxes. Lease quote is $465 per month for 36 months. 12,000 miles per year.
    Sound reasonable?

also, would someone please give me any info on any aftermarket accesories for the murano. so far, the mod we have done is put a new K&N air filter in our murano. would love to get alteza tail lights if any one made some.

Have you brought your Murano yet? I was at Carmax of Greenville Friday night after the local autoshow. They had about 7 Muranos on the lot. I sat in two of them, a Black on Black SL and a Sunlit Copper on Cabernet. I don't particularly care for Cabernet, but the leather was of good quality.

My salesperson was Sean Olson. Carmax is the best dealership in this area. I am from Union, South Carolina (Home of the infamous Susan Smith)

of the Sunlit Copper? Looking at that exterior color and Cabernet or Polished Pewter and Cabernet. I think the Cabernet interior is an acquired taste. :)

Not sure if the Copper with the Cabernet is over kill though.

That all depends on what your residual is! You might also try Lease Questions - Ask Here.

The Murano brochure lists two stereos, an AM/FM/CD Player, and an AM/FM/Cassette/CD player. I know the last is the Bose premium system, with 6 disk cd changer, but my question is, does the stardard system have built in 6 disk changer ?

After checking out a 4runner LTD and Pathfinder LE I decided on a Murano SE AWD with everything but navigation. 48month/12K sign and drive at $543 a month. That figure includes tax. The dealership is also cutting me a check for the last two lease payments on my GMC Envoy. Just hope I'm paying fair market value on the lease. Any comments?

I could have done a 36month/12K sign and drive on a Pathfinder LE for $450 a month but after driving the Murano I decided I really liked the car ride feel and extras. Better gas mileage is nice too. The exterior has some MDX and RX300 characteristics. Those were two SUV's I was also considering but price tag was a bit too high.
  • minaldominaldo Member Posts: 10
Tidester, I don't perticularly care what the residual is as I will not be buying the car at lease end. Question still stands, is 465 per month for 36 months a reasonable deal. Nothing down, but taxes. 12,000 miles per year.
  • knockoffknockoff Member Posts: 72
Ahhh but residual means a lot because it helps determine what your lease payment will be!

Murano owners, Is there are front access AC adapter, as in plugging in a Radar Detector or Cell Phone ? I can't see one in the pics anywhere, although I did notice one in the rear storage area.
  • dklaneckydklanecky Member Posts: 559
Sales brochure lists 3 12 volt dc power outlets.

If memory serves me there's one on the lower part of the console in front, another one in the back of the console, and in in the rear hatch?

At the time, I remember thinking, great, one for the radar detector, one for the cell phone and another "spare" in the rear cargo area.

The going rates for Murano leases from NMAC w/o Nav are

    Residuals .56 36/39 mo. and .46 48 mo.
    Money Factor is .00231

$465 sounds like a great deal but you should find out what the cap cost is, or what the dealer is selling the car for. Here is the formula that you can figure it out for yourself:

    A MSRP
    B minus Cap Cost
    C Residual (MSRP x Residual %)
    D Depreciation (B minus C)
E Monthly Depreciation (D divided by lease term)
    F Interest ((B+C) x Money Factor)
    G Total Payment (E+F)

If you have any type of cap cost reduciton you need to subtract that off of 'B'.

    Murano Example:

    35000 MSRP
    33000 Cap Cost
    19600 Residual (.56)
    13400 Depreciation
    372.22 Monthly Depreciation
    121.50 Interest (.00231)
    493.73 Monthly Payment

    Hope that helps.

Has anyone seen the Glacier Pearl ? According to how I read my brochure, it's only available with Cafe Latte interior. I'd only be interested if I could get it with charcoal leather. When I went to the Autobytel website, it had Glacier Pearl, and Charcoal as an available combo ??? Just wondered if anyone knows the answer, and have you seen this color/how does it look ?
  • stew24stew24 Member Posts: 28
Just wondered if the base radio has the "SAT" button for XM Radio option ? The brochure only shows the Premium stereo in the pics.
  • minaldominaldo Member Posts: 10
Well, I don't care if I get a better residual or money factor, but with a monthly payment that is is higher. The way I can tell how good my lease is, is by the monthly price itself. When I lease I put no money down, only paying the taxes and first month up front. On this deal there is also no bank fee, no security deposit, and no lease end termination fee. So I ask, would you rather have a great monthly rate, and no up front or lease end costs - or would you rather have a great residuyal factor and money factor. You see, I don't care how the dealer gets's to the price I want.

There is one at the bottom of the dashboard just to the right of the console, one inside the console's main compartment and one in the cargo area.

I'm in the Bay Area CA and I just bought a Nissan Murano on Saturday. I had gotten a pretty good price quote on the phone from one dealer an hour away but I wanted to go to a closer one and see if they could match or beat the quote. So on Thursday I called the closer dealer to find out if they have the exact vehicle with options that I want. They tell me it is in their warehouse and that I could get it right away on the same visit. I was busy on Friday and couldn't go in and finalize the deal so I called them Friday night to make sure they still had the one I wanted in their warehouse. They said they did so I told them I would call them Saturday morning to let them know when I was coming in.

I call them Saturday morning to make sure they had it and the guy told me they did. So I got there in the morning and they made me wait as the manager got "in touch" with the warehouse to prepare it. Well the manager sure made me wait a really long time and finally they told me that the car was "sold." When they said that, I knew I had been had. First of all this is a very big national chain with many different makes of cars stored in a centralized warehouses. Second of all this company only has one Nissan dealership in the bay area CA and a couple in So Cal. I think it is highly unlikely that my car would get sold while I was driving there in the morning because the only places the car could have been sold to are the other dealerships in So Cal and I'm sure they have their own warehouses down there as well. I don't have complete proof but I'm feeling that they never had the car that I wanted and they were just making me go to their dealership. I know something fishy was goin on because while the manager was getting in touch with the warehouse the salesman subtly asked me why I didn't like the Murano in the showroom (it was not the color I wanted and had more options).

So after the manager says its sold he says he will try to dealer locate a matching Murano from a different dealer. So he makes me wait again for a really long time and finally says nope, we couldn't find one. So I tell him that I'm leaving to go buy from the other dealer that we knew had the matching Murano and he asks which dealer. So I tell him which dealer and he immediately tells me that that dealer had sold the one I wanted. So I'm thinking.... what bad luck! That other dealer had the car Friday night when I had called to verify and has just sold it this morning? But I decided to call the other dealer anyways to see if he still had it.

Sure enough that other dealer still had it on the lot so I just left and bought my car there. When I bought my car I was told that they had gotten 4 dealer requests for my car and that they turned them all down. I'm thinking that the first place I went to requested this vehicle and got denied because my specific Murano was limited in the area, which then prompted the manager to tell me that the other dealer had sold it when they obviously had not.

If you are in the Bay Area and need either a Nissan, Saab, or Volkswagen then I highly recommend Diritos Brothers of Walnut Creek. It's about an hour drive for me but it was definitely worth it because they are a high volume dealership that doesn't play games. I called Diritos Bros up on Thursday and talked to Lawrence-Christopher and he was able to see that the Murano I wanted was part of their allocation and coming in soon. Then he gave me a quote over the phone that was $1,000 over invoice. I was able to work the price down a little bit but $1,000 over invoice is already a good price compared to other dealers that were quoting me MSRP.

The first dealership I went to where I had the horrible experience is the Autonation Hayward Nissan. I didn't appreciate the runarounds I was getting and they wasted a lot of my time when I could have gone straight to the much better Diritos Bros in Walnut Creek.

My new Murano: Midnight Blue SL AWD with Premium, Sunroof, and Charcoal Leather.

    Pics to come soon.

I also have heard that noise, sort of a pop, in the area of the left rear door or cargo area. I first thought the back door was not shut completely, that's the type of sound it was, but quickly ruled that out. I am going to ride in the back while my wife drives to see if I can isolate the noise. Will update when I can... Also see post gust334 Jan 11, 2003 5:43pm
  • gust334gust334 Member Posts: 75
I still haven't located the source of the noise. I've pulled out the jack, tools, covers, subwoofer, and spare tire and it still makes a plastic popping or knocking sound over bumps. Another Murano at the dealer made the same sound, but a third didn't. Still clueless as to what it might be.

Received Murano service manuals on CD Friday. The CD was damaged (had a crack) so I'm sending it back for a replacement, but I was did find a bit of trivia.... The next time someone says their vehicle transmission is a 4-speed, 5-speed, 6-speed, etc you can tell them that your Murano has a 211-speed. (!)
  • maxamillion1maxamillion1 Member Posts: 1,467
I actually kinda-sorta like Sunlit Copper, BUT I would be worried about how it would look in about three of four years. Cabernet fits Sunlit Copper the BEST. Would I buy it? Maybe, but I like Midnight Blue, Polished Pewter and Glacier Pearl better.

That Sunlit Copper SE was downright sexy looking in the snow.
  • jxlxrjxlxr Member Posts: 61
Your reasoning is correct that if you are comfortable with a payment than that is what will help you decide on a car. To get a great monthly payment you need both a high residual and low money factor. There is no other magical methods to get a low lease payment other than discounting the car by many thousands.

If the dealer gave you a great lease payment of $500 dollars and no money down, would that be acceptable to you if you found out that you paid $1000 over MSRP for the car? If so, then payment is all that matters. If you were able to get the car at $1000 less than MSRP you would have knocked around $60 per month off.

Just focusing on payment is how people get taken. To answer your question though, $465 for a somewhat loaded Murano, priced at 35K for 36 mo., is a great price if there is no other fees involved.

Stew, the pearl color is very much a milky white. It looks a lot like the white Lexus uses for the 300. The one I saw had Latte leather. It looked very nice together, but if you have a kid or dog.. you may not have that same "look" after a few hundred miles!

Someone said they bought the blue with charcoal leather. I saw that on the lot as well this weekend. Man... that is an amazing looking combo. Very cool, very classy.
  • ppowerppower Member Posts: 93
the copper like color is the new trend color. Silver was last year's number one selling color. I remember before that champagne like colors where the in thing. Don't consider black, red, or white trend colors they are staple colors. Blue can be though because of the variations in it

The concern you voiced about how it would look in 4 to 5 years is kind of the sameone I feel. Is it too trendy.

I must say after seeing the Silver this week it looks very nice though.

Gust, from whom did your order these puppies? Do you have a parts number? We've been told they're not available yet and can't be ordered (by our local dealerships)
Maybe your parts number would help motivate them.

    RE:
    A MSRP
    B minus Cap Cost
    C Residual (MSRP x Residual %)
    D Depreciation (B minus C)
E Monthly Depreciation (D divided by lease term)
    F Interest ((B+C) x Money Factor)
    G Total Payment (E+F)

Why is F (B+C) which is much creater the the MSRP?
why is interest not calculated from just B?
  • gust334gust334 Member Posts: 75
The owner's manual references http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/ as the place to get them. I didn't even try to order them through the dealer.

A hardcopy is a stunning $315 and comprises 3 volumes, according to the web site. I passed on that one.

The CD is a whopping $210 for what turns out to be a cheap CDR in a cardboard sleeve. At least they bothered to print a label on it. It was about six days order to delivery via UPS. I called this morning about the defect and they said they'd send another out right away, so I presume they're generally in stock (maybe they make them on the fly?) Don't remember the part number for the CD, I'll look on the invoice when I get home.

The translation from Japanese to English is very poor to really bad, depending on the chapter.

Also note that the Murano has a local area network on board; six or seven of the modules communicate with each other over the LAN. It would have been sufficient to say any module can talk to any other. For some indecipherable reason Nissan felt it necessary to begin every chapter with a complete enumeration of every possible sender-to-receiver combination, and then include a diagram for each one. I suppose that's why it is three volumes instead of one.
  • jxlxrjxlxr Member Posts: 61
Your right that that this would seem off but that is how the monthly interest is calculated. It isn't a mistake. You could go over to to the lease board and ask why.

When I go over some uneven slightly bumpy road the back area starts rattling with a plastic sound too. When I look in the rear mirror while this is happening I can see the rear seats jumping up and down but I'm not sure if that's whats causing the sound. I guess I'll sit in the back while its on the road soon. Hopefully we can figure out what's causing this sound.

I own an SE AWD with 1,200 miles on it. It has navigation, so it has all "the brake assist", etc. I just wanted to tell you all the experience I've had with its brakes. The brakes are OK in city driving, but not OK on the freeway. Here is my experience:
The other day I was driving on the 405 FWY at 60 mph, and I was keeping more than enough distance from the car in front of me. Suddenly, the said car started braking hard, and when I applied the brakes on my Murano, it was taking too long to stop. When I realized that, I started to brake hard, and the rear of the Murano started to pull to the right.

I am taking the Murano in to the dealer to get the brakes checked, but I am curious if anyone else have had a weird experience when braking on the freeway.

I have the Bose and I'm not too satisfied with the bass. I'm looking into the Infinity Basslink to help give me some oomph because it comes in a small package and I hear that the sound quality is pretty good. I don't really know too much about car audio so does anyone know how easy it will be to install this with the Bose headunit?

SL AWD. Have not yet had a panic stop from highway speed, did have one from about 40mph when a van launched over the center median and stopped in my lane. I believe braking assist kicked in, because (although I stabbed at the brake pedal suddenly) I don't think I fully applied my weight to the pedal. Everything loose in the cabin went sailing forward. The stop was controlled and straight line. I didn't have the opportunity to steer/evade due to surrounding traffic.

Still hanging around bmarko? You seem to be the only other person noticing the drag. I took my Murano to the dealer today and was able to demonstrate the drag on both my car and another on their lot. They said it was normal for the CVT, part of the engine braking feature, and that a computer program would be coming out soon that would allow service technicians to adjust such aspects of the CVT. Don't know if it was the truth or just a blow off, but I'll keep checking back with them. Good luck.

We're just about to buy, at $700 over invoice for an SL AWD (w/Nav, Premium , Dynamic Control, Leather, Roof, Cargo Protector, Mud Guard, & Mats) I've heard folks mention that we should request any system tweaks before purchase, else possibly pay for the service afterward.

I'll be asking them to turn off the delayed headlight shutoff (if 45 secs is the minimum). Does anyone know if it's possible to prevent the horn from sounding when the keyless lock is used?

During an extended test drive of an AWD, I noticed the reported tire pressure was 48-50 PSI. This made for a rough ride (max PSI is 44). This led me to wonder, can we 'mere owners' change the setting for the auto tire pressure monitor?

Any other pre-buy issues come to mind?
  • gust334gust334 Member Posts: 75
I've heard folks mention that we should request any system tweaks before purchase, else possibly pay for the service afterward.
I would think if you're paying in the neigborhood of 30 large, you should be able to get stuff like that changed gratis within the first month or so.

I'll be asking them to turn off the delayed headlight shutoff (if 45 secs is the minimum).
It has two settings: enabled and disabled. Enabled, it is 45 seconds if you simply leave them on and then exit, plus 5 minutes each time you activate the headlight switch. Both are designed to prevent the battery from running down. Any particular reason you want to have this disabled? This delayed shutoff is ONLY if you leave them turned on in the first place. If you turn them off before exiting the vehicle, they're off completely with no delay.

Does anyone know if it's possible to prevent the horn from sounding when the keyless lock is used?
Yes, the owner's manual tells you how to do it from the key fob. Two modes, noisy and quiet. Noisy is the default, honks the horn on locking, blinks on unlocking. Quiet blinks twice on arming the alarm, and does nothing on unlocking.

During an extended test drive of an AWD, I noticed the reported tire pressure was 48-50 PSI. This made for a rough ride (max PSI is 44). This led me to wonder, can we 'mere owners' change the setting for the auto tire pressure monitor?
Not that I know of, but why would you want to? Also, the recommended pressure is in the usual place in the door jamb, thirty-something per wheel. If you want to run them as hard as 44psi you can, but the ride will be jarring. Just remember that all pressure readings should be made when the tires are COLD.

JXLR, The fact is the dealer did not give me a great lease payment of $500, but $380. I'd like to ask how many folks in the New York City area have gotten a lease for a 2003 maxima GLE, with no money down and with no fees for less than $380 per month. Lease term is 36 months, with 12,000 miles per year.

considering the Murano has about the best brake rating in 70-0 of 170 feet for any SUV.

What did you drive before having a Murano?

I believe the formula is like that because the Money Factor is actually the interest rate divided by 24 (and not 12 like you would expect). This means that you are actually calculating (B+C)*((interest rate/12)/2) which is the same as ((B+C)/2)*(Interest rate/12) where (B+C)/2 is equal to the average of what you owe over the life of the lease and (Interest rate/12) is the monthly interest rate(sort of). Hope this answered you question.
