Dweebe, here in midwest Nebraska I had 20 muranos to choose from at the 4 dealers around here. They are not selling well here, one dealer has had the same 8 on the lot for at least 2 weeks. However, I did not find the color combo I wanted so my dealer did a dealer trade. They are actually going to pick it up in Illinois today. Also, I did my second test drive last Saturday morning when it was about 0 degrees outside and the Cvt did not seem affected at all.

SInce we went with a four-year lease, I purchased the Security+Plus Gold Preferred 4/48,000 (in hindsight the Preferred wasn't necessary) for $610. I talked to Nissan about the options and pricing and they said it is up to the dealer to set the prices. So you may be able to negotiate...

The heated seats are great for that initial shock when its cold out, but I usually have to shut it off after 5 minutes or so. Even on low setting it's too warm for me.

As far as the CVT in sub-zero temps - I haven't noticed any adverse effects down to -15 deg. We had a couple in the last week or two and it seemed to run normal.

When we leased ours three weeks ago the dealers in Indianapolis had a total of 6 in stock and our dealer said he's had to dealer trade from Kentucky and Ohio to satisfy his sales...he can't get them fast enough.

Traction control can't hurt. I live in the Philadelphia area and just traded an A6 for the Murano. With my Audi I was able to go through 8-12 inches of snow with absolutely no problems. The only thing that was required was ABS since that kicked in a lot when braking in snow. I could see traction control with the FWD models.

Leather is great, holds up much better than cloth but you definitely need the heated seats since leather gets cold (and hot). My wife loves them. I could have bought a KIA, as long as it had heated seats.

Keep in mind that most well equipped Muranos on dealer lots now have the cold package at no charge so you shouldn't have to pay for it. If you custom order it, you might. Check inventory at the Nissan site and pick a car and you will see Cold Pkg - no chg.

THANKS for clearing up the cold package charges jxlxr !! I was really confused because all the Muranos here in Omaha have a charge of $499 for the cold package but the one the dealer traded for me in Illinois did not. They kept assuring me it was exactely equipped like I wanted but couldn't tell me why the price difference. You finally cleared it up for me. I feel really good about my deal and am excited to pick it up Wednesday. My payments are much lower then I ever thought too. I haggled with a few online lenders and ended up getting 4.45% apr for 60 mos. What a deal.

Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwww if you are on the fence don't be--this is such a great SUV/crossover etc!!!! Drove 4 or 5 different ones as I made up my mind. The sight issue with the pillar I found to be no problem for me and it is so quiet inside when driving. The way it does not shift is amazing with the CVT transmission.

I live in St. Louis area and earlier comment mentioned that they thought only about 7 or so were available in this area. The St. Louis area dealership I bought from had 15 recently come in but were down to 9, 19 set to arrive in February and the salesman that sold me mine had sold 4 and was behind the guy in first place. This is their third allotment. One other St. Louis dealership I visited also had 8 or 9 --if you were at their web sites and checking inventory they are often behind in posting inventory--my dealer recently lost their web site person so they have not updated their inventory for two weeks. Some areas I am sure are selling better than others because of economic conditions.

Took me about a month to compare and price all the vehicles that I was considering.
The dealership I used cannot keep them they are selling great. Every time I went back some were sold that were there the last time. I cannot elieve all you get as standard options. Paid 200 over invoice for base model.

Okay, okay I am a little wired after just getting home but spent lots of time on this board and drove them a bunch and glad I did it!!!! Thanks to all of you for the great info it was soooooooooo much help!!!

    Thanks

Super Black cloth Cafe Latte which is very light coffee color with lots of cream in coffee. At first I did not like this at all but drove it and when surrounded by all the color I began to see the contrasting colors of the front part of dash next to windshield, and lower side door panels plus floor mats. So with that being much cooler in summer and not showing every piece of white lint like charcoal does I went for it. No kids, no pets so no worry about very light color.

I also have a street rod and clean that with California Duster to remove dust---- black cars and my street rod (dark, dark purple almost black) dust shows from just sitting in garage it seems and will buy one for the Murano and save a few car washes when all that is on there is dust from a few days since last car wash. Nothing looks better than black IMO when clean or worse when dirty.

Anybody know who to reset the delay time for the automatic headlights? I know that some folks have gone to the dealership to have that done, but it would be nice if I could avoid the hassle of dropping the vehicle off.

By the way, I've had my SL AWD for a month now, and I haven't had any problems at all. I especially love the cabin spaciousness, and all my friends comment on how much room they have, even when they're sitting in the middle in back. Also, my 6'3" son doesn't have to put the seat back very far to have comfortable leg room.

To the folks that are having the "popping" sounds, first thing I did was take out the cargo cover as the one I had in my Explorer rattled like a mariachi.

From the service manual, it looks like the only way to do it requires the special service dongle that the dealer has. If there is a way to do it without the dongle, it isn't obvious.

I realize it's cold in most parts of the country and maybe you haven't tried this yet but can you fit a set of golf clubs in the rear compartment? I'm talking about fitting them flat across without folding down the rear seats.

I took a look back there while getting my Maxima serviced at the dealership recently and it looked a little tight back there.

    Just wondering.
    Thanks.

looks can be decieving you know. i think it is possible to fit golf clubs back there without having tpo fold the seats.

anyone purchase a murano in texas yet and if so what kind of deal did you get?
  • artdechoartdecho Member Posts: 337
Being as Nissan has priced the Altima-based Murano
above even the Maxima (and even infringing on Infiniti QX-4 territory)...that's $47-55,000 including taxes in the Great White North, maybe they need to do a Sentra-based "son-of-Murano" with a CVT and the Altima/Spec-V four cylinder.
Especially since the affordable, available-everywhere-in-the-world-but-here X-Trail has yet to make an appearance. What do you think, cb70?
Would a raised awd Sentra-based sportwagon fit the bill? It's time Nissan started paying attention to the other end of it's lineup.
  • ambuonoambuono Member Posts: 15
you are right, looks can be deceiving. You're basing your opinion on looks as well, correct? Have you tried to fit clubs back there?

My brother fit both his clubs and his wife's easily. He claims he can get four sets in there (bag only, no carts) if he stacks them.

Take a set to the dealer, they're not going to mind.

I just purchased my Murano and the dealer said that he would give me the cold pkg at no cost..

Ok... I've made up my mind - I'm going to get an SL, loaded with NAV - Polished Pewter w Charcoal Leather. Was torn between the Blue, Black and Pewtwer - but with all the salt on the roads, etc during winters in NJ - the Pewter looks easier to keep clean.

Has anyone gotten their insurance bill since they bought the Murano? NJ is the highest in the US, so I'm curious to see how much of a jump in rates I'm going to deal with...

    Thx

I replaced a 1994 Ford hatchback with the 2003 Murano, and my insurance here in IL went up about $17/mo. More of a step than a jump....
  • skillet1skillet1 Member Posts: 10
I replaced a 2001 Outback with my Murano and my ins. went DOWN $86 every six months. Couldn't believe that, especially since the Murano cost $14000 more and is 2 yrs. newer. My agent did not have an explanation, just said some of the new cars are rating cheap.
  • dirlinkdirlink Member Posts: 8
I wanted to take a second and thank you for the CarMax information in your postings in the Murano forum at Edmunds.com. I am glad to see accurate and reliable dealer pricing on the web for these hard to get (in the Atlanta area) vehicles. The warranty pricing information is invaluable as well, especially knowing these were Nissan warranties.

I have not treated myself to a new car in 8 years, but after driving the Murano SE AWD I don't think I will be able to deny myself further. My Birthday is next week and I just might have to show up at my own birthday party in my new...

That is if the car actually exists in-stock anywhere.

    Again, thanks,

    John

I am confused. Several posts allude to heated seats without getting the Cold Package. Could heated seats come as part of the SE Popular Package when you get the leather seats?

Nothing on www.nissanusa. com to support this, but I would love it as a freeby. Beats the nearly 500 bucks and I don't care about heated mirrors. I have the feature on my Volvo, had the car 8 years and never had the need for heated mirrors, but the seats are great!
  • jxlxrjxlxr Member Posts: 61
Right now, and of course that can change, the cold package is no charge on most cars currently in the US that have the premium pkg. Either Nissan decided to add it to the Premium/Popular package or they had decided it was cheaper to manufacturer all cars with it.

Printerman, tell your dealer you would prefer an extra $500 off the car instead of the cold package. Since they can't get you a car without it, you'll make out. See their face go cold.

OK...first of all, thanks for all of the input. I have been following this message board for months. I bought my Sheer Silver, Charcoal Cloth SL 2WD with Premium Package and Sunroof last Friday. I couldn't get any of the dealers in Las Vegas to budge off of MSRP (they even have a 3k markup, that they will remove and take you back to MSRP). So, I contacted a couple of auto brokers and the Clark County Credit Union's auto brokerage was able to find my vehicle in Phoenix and the MSRP was 31,484.00 and I paid 29,963.00. The dealer had already added black pinstriping which looks great. Now...my prior vehicle was a 1987 Nissan Maxima (I keep cars forever!) and I loved it, but after 167,000 miles it was time. The Murano is a dream...the beast just wants to go. I noticed a slight growl with the CVT, but after a couple of days I actually grew to welcome it as a kind of power meter. My Murano is tight...unlike others, I do not notice any rattles or squeaks. I also love the Bose sound system.Bottom line...I LOVE this vehicle! If you are sitting on the fence, go ahead and make your best deal and take the plunge. You will not regret it!

Since I'm no longer on the fence regarding what crossover vehicle to buy, I'm looking a little deeper into the options and packages for the SE. As it turns out, it's either all or nothing at all. I'm set on the Charcoal cloth interior which means I get the bare bones setup (no roof rails either). So, my question is this - does anyone know if the roof rails can be added later? With the obvious follow-up - are they mounted THROUGH the roof ? (which means the interior head liner has to be removed) If it's possible and the interior doesn't have to come apart, I'm looking to do this myself !
  • al63017al63017 Member Posts: 149
You know I have had those on my last two SUVs and decided not to pay extra for them. I did not want the package that they came with anyway. But I never have used them and have not seen anybody with luggage on top of their SUV using them either but maybe 2 times in 10 years. They are strictly appearance items like pin stripes. I bought mine without and could care less about them. Saved me 1500.00for the pkg that they came with.

But probably did not answer your original questions. No doubt they could be added but packages are always cheaper for the parts you get.

Could not say if bolts come through roof.

Ok thanks to gust334 and skillet1 for the info on Insurance... very interesting to see what happens when I get the quote from my agent.

I worked thru my credit union auto broker and she was able to get me an SL AWD fully loaded with NAV for 1500 above invoice. Took that price to several dealers, and found another who's willing to take it down to 1200 above invoice... so if anybody's looking in NJ - don't let them tell you they are only going to take the MSRP - looks like a lot of dealers are willing to deal :)

Did any of you purchased the Vehicle protection plan? If so which package and how much?
I am not sure if I need this protection plan. The finance department from Nissan in Virginia, he wants to sell this to me for $1400 (6 years/100,000 miles Gold Preferred package). Please let me know if this is a good package to have. My car's Insurance also has this similar package for $60/year with $250 deductible. Thanks.

Maybe you can confirm, but I'm assuming that you are talking about an extended warranty (as opposed to a prepaid maintenance plan).

The drivetrain warranty on the Murano is 5 years/60,000 miles. So unless you're worried about the electrical components or navigation system going on the fritz, you're really only buying one year/40,000 miles for what I think are the most expensive parts to repair.

And you need to check to fine print to make sure the warranty covers everything that may go wrong. If it's not in writing, don't count on coverage.

Usually you can buy the extended warranty anytime before the basic 3/36 warranty expires too, so don't be rushed into something. Extended warranties are a big profit center for the dealer.

Finally, I recommend that you go to the very top right of this page and click on "Search" and then go to the very bottom of the search page. Type "extended" into the Key Word Search box and browse some of the articles that will show up.

The Cold Package has Heated seats and heated outside mirrors. If your Murano does not have the Cold package, you can ask the dealer to add the heated seats for you free (after market). The dealer can not do heated out side mirrors.
  • dklaneckydklanecky Member Posts: 559
Nissan's Gold warranty is sold with a couple of options, namely length (months)and mileage but also deductible's can be different. If your getting the Gold plan with 0 deductible and 6 years 100,000 miles, then $1400 isn't too bad.

As to whether of not it's a wise investment, that's a personal decision.

I think I'd put the $1400 in a savings account of some kind and wait to see how the vehicle behaves.

I think that you can add the extended warranty at any time after purchase but before the factory warranty expires?

hear in canada, heated seats come standard on cloth and on leather trimed surfaces.

All I can say is the Murano is the best vehicle I've ever driven. After shopping for 4runners and Pathfinders the Murano makes them all feel like moving ice boxes. What a vehicle! Notice I don't call it a truck?

I just wish I would have done my homework before I signed the deal. After a full day of shopping I kind of wore down at the dealership and wasn't thinking on my toes. I was more interested in my monthly lease payment rather than what value they were assigning the vehicle.

Basically I paid MSRP for a SE AWD, sheer silver with charcoal leather. Loaded except navigation. The dealership paid my last two Envoy lease payments and gave me a $50 internet incentive check. I took delivery without a money down. 4yr/12K sign and drive lease at $543 a month. That includes tax. Bad deal?

and thought it was a great car. I don't like the styling much though and would rather pay about $6k less for an X-Trail any day. Ah well, I keep e-mailing Nissan of America and keep getting the same canned responses. Looks like we are going to get a Honda Element instead.

My wife and I were perusing the Murano at a dealership today in NW Atlanta. We noticed that most were Nissan sticker prices between 30 and 34k depending on opts and SL/SE. We also noticed that next to the sticker the dealer added their own sticker on all models with an extra $900 for weather proofing and 3k for ADM. I asked the sales guy what ADM stood for and he said "Atlanta Dealer Markup." He tried to tell me that they were selling so well in Atlanta that all ATL dealers are marking the 3k over MSRP. I basically told him he was on crack and laughed it off. Wife and I will probably buy the car next year when the '04s come out, but we sure as hell won't be paying these prices. Another ATL area dealer near my place of work has 25 of these on the lot...and they are always there. If he thinks they're going to sell the thing at 37k I have a bridge to sell him...
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
lol, that's a good one. Usually ADM stands for "Additional" Dealer Markup. In this economy, the dealer has to be pretty brazen to stick to the ADM....

    dirlink,

I bought the extended warranty from Nissan at the time I bought my 00 Maxima SE in September 1999. I purchased the 100k 48 months no deductible on a $30k MSRP sticker for $980.

This was the first time I ever bought an extended warranty and at the time thought what the heck, the Max was loaded with every option except Nav and I must have my car working to get to work and make any money (I'm in a 100% commission industry).

I will say that whenever I had any complaints or issues with the car right up to the 100k, (I'm at 120K now) the dealer just fixed it without any hassles.

Based on my prior experience,I'm pretty sure I'd buy it again on the Murano. I used it three times on the Max. Once to get the windshield replaced at about 55k, once for a bad front strut at 85k, and again for a squeaky blower motor in the HVAC system at about 95k so I know I got my money's worth. (The windshield alone would have been $700).

I'm a bit worrfied about the CVT and how reliable will it be? My gut tells me it'll be fine but if anything does fail I bet it'll be huge $$ to fix.

How do they manage to exclude the Nav system and the Bose? Seems to me the Bose was covered in my 00 Max.
  • artdechoartdecho Member Posts: 337
Yeah, i have no doubt the Murano is a great drive. I'm even warming to the looks, at least from the front. I think an X-Trail would be about 12K less in Canada.....at least if it's priced like the CR-V, Forester, Tribute etc. I saw my first Element today at a dealer (closed) & was impressed.....wish it had 4 conventional doors and a bit better mileage but may check it out anyway.
  • ownersiteownersite Member Posts: 4
While I was going through the color selection process, I visited several dealers in the Atlanta area, including one that includes the name of a very famous street/roadrace/state nickname/etc that included an additional $995 markup for their "environmental protection package."

When the salesman approached me, I asked if the pricing was negotiable off MSRP and he told me that "Definitely not. These things are moving like crazy. We can't keep them on the lot!"

When I contacted that same dealership (and 9 others in the Atlanta area) by email via the Nissan website, telling them I was a serious buyer, the model I wanted and the options I wanted on it to determine if they would beat or match Carmax SC's price, they did (as did 6 others, including two that beat it by $100).

The moral of the story? If you are a serious buyer in the Atlanta area, contact every dealership within 25 miles with Carmax price letting them know you have no interest in playing games and they will match or beat it. It worked for us. The demand is simply not that high in Atlanta. The proof is on the lots.

I drove by yesterday, that same dealership appears to have more Murano's in inventory than they did two weeks ago. I imagine that their sleezy dealership games have prevented a sale or two.

I ended buying our Murano SL 2WD w/Nav for $500 over invoice at the same dealership we bought our 2002 Altima SE 3.5 from last year.

Overall it's a great vehicle. Now if we could only get the SAT radio issue worked out...

This literally just in from Nissan:

    "Dear Dklanecky,

Thank you for contacting Nissan North America, Inc. and allowing us the
    opportunity to be of assistance.

We appreciate your time and concern in contacting us. The satellite radio
for the Murano is late availability and should be available in May, 2003 or
    later.

If you have any further questions or comments, please feel free to e-mail
    us.

    Sincerely,

    Latrice
    National Consumer Affairs"

    Here's the e-mail I sent them on January 23rd.

    Good Afternoon,

I have an aftermarket XM Satellite radio currently installed in my 2000 Maxima SE. It has increased my enjoyment of the Maxima dramatically, to the point where I feel that I must have the option in all of my vehicles from now on.

I am interested in purchasing a Nissan Murano SE AWD (within the next 90 days) with the factory installed XM Satellite option. My dealer(s) are unable to provide me with any information as to availability, pricing, or operation of the unit (controls, antenna's, etc.).

Could you please let me know when this option will be available on the Murano? I want to purchase the Murano but may have to buy a competing vehicle if the XM radio will not be available soon enough to suit my needs.

    Thank you for your time,

    ...that I just received:

    ==================================================
Thank you for contacting Nissan North America, Inc. and allowing us the opportunity to be of assistance.

Your vehicle is Satellite Radio capable from an after market provider. However this after market option has not been factory pre-wired and will not integrate into the factory radio. A satellite radio unit purchased from retailers such as Circuit City, Best Buy, etc. will work in the vehicle, but it will not integrate into the factory radio. Consequently, the aforementioned unit will not integrate or operate with use of the "SAT" button the radio faceplate.

A target date of April 2003 has been set to launch the optional factory-install and dealer-install satellite radio programs for factory pre-wired vehicles. Please note that April is strictly a target date and subject to change if required.

Once again, thank you for allowing us to be of service.

Yesterday called (Unnamed large national dealer who sells Nissans in Greenville SC and the DC/Baltimore area) internet sales number in Greenville SC. They are about 2 hours drive from the Atlanta market straight up I-85 and located adjacent to the freeway. Their web site shows a half dozen Muranos in stock at listed prices a few hundred dollars over base invoice. My sales consultant immediately offered to special order a vehicle according to my exact specifications.

Got a quote faxed to me in minutes on a Murano SE AWD with Popular Package, Cold Package, Dynamic Control Package, Navigation System, Floor Mats, Splash Guards. "No-Haggle Price" Quote was 34778, base invoice is 34184, MSRP is 38063. Thats 596 over invoice and includes the Destination Charges, a savings of 3879 off MSRP. Unsure if that includes a $99 prep fee listed on the dealer web site for doc prep. Think I would decline to pay that anyway.

This leads me to believe that Nissan puts substantial "trunk money" for the dealers in each car...

Dealers in ATL are dreaming if they think I will pay MSRP or an additional "ADM" (Atlanta Dealer Markup). Interesting tidbit: (Unnamed large national dealer who sells Nissans in Greenville SC and the DC/Baltimore area) web site asks if you want to pick up the vehicle at another of their locations. I wonder if they would send a vehicle to their location in ATL for delivery?

Was also quoted for the Nissan Security Plus Gold Vehicle Protection Plan extended warranty:
    84 months/100K miles 1499
    72 months/100K miles 1299
    60 months/60K miles 1049

There are two different deductible options: $50 and $0. Think this one is priced for the $50 deductible. Trying to get that point clarified.
Nissan includes 36 month/ 36K mile Bumper to Bumper warranty and 60 month/60K mile powertrain warranty with vehicle. Trying to decide if extended warranty is worth it. Doesn't cover the NAVSYS or BOSE system. I wonder when this has to be purchased and if it can happen at any time before the included 36M/36K warranty expires...

Salesman was quite professional, isn't that refreshing?

    Anyone know:

Price differential between the Extended Warranty $50 deductible and the $0 deductible?

When you must purchase the Extended Warranty?

Any experiences with Nissan Extended Warranties?

    Happy Motoring!

I can help you guys out. I live very CLOSE to Carmax, and I can check the "Real" inventory for you guys.

As someone stated, Carmax is right up 1-85 about two hours from Atlanta, I am about 2.5 hours from Atlanta.

Good luck with your purchases. I went to Carmax back in the beginning of January (to the autoshow) and I stopped by Carmax. A Sunlit Copper SE was on the lot with all options.

I cannot afford the Murano, but I can afford the Altima, so I go look at Altimas all the time. After I graduate from college, you can bet you money that I will add a Murano SE in either Midnight Blue, Sheer Silver or Polished Pewter alongside my soon to be brought Altima 2.5S in Sonoma Sunset.

    To: bigheadtooler:
I'm in Chattanooga 1.5 hrs from Atlanta. Bought an SL 2wd with just about every option other then DVD for 33,200 excl. tax. I think the MSRP was 35,800 with the dealer added protection garbage the total price listed was 36,200. I also purchased the Nissan warranty for $1100 that covers everything to 75K and if I don't use it the full amount will be refunded. Dealer is Mountain View Nissan. BTW: have logged about 2500 miles on it and my wife loves it. Gas mileage averaging 20.5.
