2002MY is really not much different than 2000. Only 2 changes have been made:

Outside temp guage built into clock
Electric Fan in front of the A/C Condensor radiator

Both I could ad to mine easily, and mine already has the upgraded tires, side steps/rocker bars, CB, Nudge Bar, Hella4000s, Front tint, OME Rear Springs, 5-way Adjustable Gas shocks, hitch, and some other stuffs.

As long as we aren't requesting dream machines, my 2000 Trooper is great, and the SVX is gonna be awsome when I get it :)

but one thing a new Trooper has that yours doesn't, is zero miles on it. ;)

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
True True. I only have 42K Paisan miles, so I should have at least another 100K Paisan miles left on it. Normal people would have another 150K left :)

it appears everyone has picked a "fun" vehicle, and a "practical" vehicle.

In my case, the fun vehicle would be my primary daily driver. Not sure about others here...

    Bob
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
the mini-van (the practical one) is hers (would be anyway), and the Legacy 2.5GT/Outback VDC Sedan/Legacy Blitzen-B4 (really the B4 is only the true 'fun' one) would be mine.

For my car, I would love to replace my 98 Civic Coupe with a WRB WRX with about 5 k in mods. Still debating in real life about the sedan vs wagon issue. Definitely going to get a manual.
For the 2nd car (my husband's) replace the 2001 Auto Xterra with a 2003 Manual 4X4 one. Xterra handling is great, and it tows the jet skis to the lake and back, and does some light off-roading. ( I know someone is going to argue with me about the off-road competency, but it does everything we need and hauls the lake stuff and 2 greyhounds fine) If the rules allowed one additional vehicle, It would probably have to be a Silver or Black S2000, cause I always wanted a convertible.
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Is probably one of the better off-road vehicles out there. I'd take issue with it's on-road handling more than it's offroad abilities. Offroad the only ones that might be better or on par in it's class:

    Wrangler
    Rodeo
    Monty sport
    4-Runner

These two vehicles are for yourself, not anyone else.

I'm convinced that car enthusiasts need at least two cars. One simply will not do...

I'll stick with what we have...the WRX wagon and Legacy Sedan...

Of course, since it has to be AWD for most of us...image

I believe the Lancia Stratos was the first purpose-built rally car...saw one this past Feb at the Cavallino Festival in Palm Beach...it was for sale!
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
I'll take one of those thank you!

    -mike
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
I'd just have one vehicle - a wagon instead of a sedan. Outback VDC or Legacy 2.5GT (or Blitzen/B4!!!) wagon, instead of the previously mentioned sedan versions. I might think I want something more than those listed, but in all practicality, I'm happy with my Outback and my list would be a logical next step for it. I'll save the convertible for when I'm 50! LOL!

Guess I'm not an enthusiast since I only picked 1 vehicle :(

Nice Stratos: where was the photo taken, Serge?

Only reason I ask is becuase there's a guy here in eastern PA who collects and restores Lancias and IIRC he imported a Stratos for his collection.

    Ed
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
That's a Stratos, it was indeed a purpose-built rally car, and looks a lot better with it's rally wheels than with those moster slicks on the back. A full rack of lights on the nose helps too!
  • lilbluewgn02lilbluewgn02 Member Posts: 1,089
those tires in the rear are probably the normal size for this car. Here's the car at Goodwood...notice the size here, the fender flares (that you could eat off of!). The street version I saw (burgundy) had the same size...huge.

I just dropped into the chat and back out - very quiet except for juice's announcement that he and the missus had the little juice this afternoon. I caught that his name is Charlie...short for Charles or what I'm not sure. Came in at 9 lbs. 5 oz., a strapping baby. All apparently well. juice a dedicated Crew leader to be posting hours after his child's birth!

    Hey all!

I actually wanted to participate in the chat tonight! Actually, I have to check to see whether Subaru chat is still Thurs eve at 9. Too bad I missed it - AGAIN!

Well, we knew it was too good to be true - 4 Subarus in Florida! So, one had to leave! Indeed, I moved back to New York at the beginning of the month (work related) and Wifey is joining me this weekend. (Anyone want to buy a house in Weston Florida????) Don't curse me, but I sure hope we have TONS of snow this winter!

Anyhow, I am hoping to once again become active in Townhall - I doubt I'll be able to "catch up" on what I have missed, and this new interface.. mmmph... I guess I'll get used to it.

    I hope everyone is well.

    Pete.

We may end up moving back up north, now that I lost my job here. Susan wants to go to eother Rockland County, where her best friend lives, or back to CT.
Rachel, gee, that's what Susan says all the time!

    my dreams:

    1) Porsche 911 Turbo
    2) Mercedes S-Class

    closer to reality:

    1) E36 M3... say 95ish. ;-)
    2) Toyota Landcruiser (new-- my dad had an FJ, been there done that.)

btw Bob-- you brought this up right? my father has a mantra about needing SIX motorcycles: sportbike, dirtbike, dual-sport, touring, adventure, cruiser. he's got the first three already... I think I can live with simply dirt and street.

    -Colin
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
I like the way your dad thinks!

    Bob
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
yeah his six would be something like:

    sport-- Honda CBR 929 (owns)
    dirt-- Yamaha YZ250 (owns)
    dual-sport-- Vertemati 493 (owns)
touring-- probably a BMW K or Yamaha FJ1300
adventure-- upcoming KTM LC8 ('03 debut?)
cruiser-- Yamaha VStar, Honda VTX, or something like that.

    my list:

sport-- Suzuki GSX-R 750 (plenty... literbikes are too much to insure for my taste.)
dirt-- a nice old Honda CR500
    dual-sport-- KTM LC4
touring-- Kawasaki Ninja ZX-12R (comfy! stupid fast too. so it's not a real tourer, neither am I.)
adventure-- pass. dual-sport is plenty for me.
cruiser-- Yamaha V-Max. Couldn't see myself owning any other cruiser.

While I like your first selection (in dark metallic blue yummy!), it was determined that Bob wanted to know what vehicles we wanted - but were obtainable in your current situation and currently in production in your current country of residence.

You're right, Brian, I cheated. A WRX wagon isn't sufficiently large (cargo-wise) for me, so I'll wait for the rumored MY04 GT turbo. If I had to choose today and didn't have to pay for maintenance (like Ed), then an Audi S6 Avant.

I know that I'll be holding out until the summer of '04 anxiously awaiting what beholds the Legacy line. And if for some reason a B4-like 'hot' or H6 Legacy doesn't make it here, I'll probably end up with what I mentioned a few pages back - an Outback VDC or Legacy #.# GT-VTD.

Notice I left out the numbers in the Legacy model above, since I have to have some hope! :-)

If I were to ever get back into bikes, the only one that holds my interest is the new soon-to-be-released Honda ST1300 sport tourer, with the optional ABS.

    Highly unlikely, though...

for just me, would have to be a WRX sedan (5spd, white) and a long box, crew-cab pick-em-up truck (flavor to be determined), with a camper on the back and a boat in tow. After all, I still have work to do around the place, and kids I have to cart around & entertain! (Me being one of those kids count??)

    Cheers!

Yep, we did. Studebaker was already moribund by the time it saw the light of day. Just got done reading a great book, "More Than They Promised," by Thomas Bonsall (Stanford U. Press) re the long, slow death of Studebaker. Bonsall posits that the company should have gone under in 1954, after disastrous planning in the the rollout of the 1953 sedan models, prohibitive labor costs, an outmoded manufacturing plant, spotty QC as they rushed out coupe models, and the "Ford blitz" of forced sales in the low-priced field. Ironic in that the '53s are considered by many - even non-Stude buffs - to be the most beautiful 20th-century American car.

Oh yeah, the Wagonaire is much better looking than the Envoy XUV, not to mention that it has a lower liftover height. Still want to see GM option that technology into a Legacy wagon.

<< Ironic in that the '53s are considered by many - even non-Stude buffs - to be the most beautiful 20th-century American car. >.

If you're talking coupes (not sedans or wagons), I couldn't agree more!

<< Still want to see GM option that technology into a Legacy wagon. >>

Again, I agree. Hmmm... A Bajaback!?

Mike - right now I'm staying with my mom in Mamaroneck until the wife and I decide where we want to live. We are likely to pick something in Westchester or lower Conn (stamford??) The wife's office is in NYC and mine in Conn, so, a midpoint somewhere. I want to find out about the drives, especially on Sundays, since I'd love to go on some! I really can't wait to drive my OB in the snow! Having now experienced the Merritt (spelling??) Parkway, it already feels like a different car! Don and Serge - the Sawgrass, and 75 don't even begin to let us know how awesome the AWD is compared to the twisty windy roads up north!

Well, all, I hope everyone has a fantabulous weekend - it's great to be back on the Subaru boards. Once again, Patty can refer to herself as a Subaru widow!

    Japanese rumors, including Subie rumors:
    http://www.apexjapan.com/

New Accord gets 5-speed autos, and the coupe a 240 HP V6 & 6-speed manual!
    http://www.auto.com/industry/accord25_20020725.htm

Subaru needs to get the new Legacy turbo in the market ASAP!! I think the '03 Legacy, despite the upgrades, is rapidly losing ground in the "family-size" marketplace. I know if I were in the marketplace for a Legacy-size/type car, and didn't care about AWD, I'd be looking elsewhere. The AWD and hope for more "sporting" models are the only things keeping me from straying back to Honda, or elsewhere.

I think it looks great. Hints of both the Highlander and Rav4, but still very beefy looking. Comes with 4.7L V8 and 5-speed auto, and new 4.0L(?) V6 and 4-speed auto. Interestingly, the V6 has a bit more horsepower (245) than the V8, but the V8 will have much more torque. Tires are 265/65x17.

We had moved down to Florida From Norwalk CT, where we lived for 8 years....loved the hills there. I used todrive on the Merritt all the time...it was Letterman's favorite road also (he used to live in New Canaan) The first time I drove a Subie was in July 2000; we stopped in CT to visit old neighbors and friends, then went up to Subaru of Wilton...Susan wanted to test drive a Legacy GT. While she was out in the Legacy, I took out a 2.5 RS with Michael...the guy gave me the keys and told me to have fun, which is what I proceded to do, being very familiar with the roads and hills between Norwalk and Wilton. We are looking forward to hopefully moving back up north. What is the job situation like there?
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
Honda will add an Accord wagon to its US-mix. I'd be surprised if it DIDN'T include an AWD version.

Acura to add a TSX sports sedan. My guess is that it will be a sedan version of the RSX hatchback.

4Runner looks aw-right, I see hints of the TrailBlazer.

Loosh: E250? My cousin rented a 15 passenger van to carry two families around in Oregon, he's there now. I'll ask what he got when he returns.

Colin: S class? Drive the E55 AMG and the S class back-to-back, and I bet you change your mind.

I like dirt bikes, but a nice touring bike might lie in my future. Depends on where Tati and Charlie go to college, but I'd love to visit them on 2 wheels if they're in a warm climate.

    lol Juice,

of course I've never driven an S or an E55, but I have seen both. I was wildly dreaming that I'd have a *big* luxury sedan. Who needs performance when the 911 turbo is in the garage? ;-)

Interesting article. It doesn't really say it will be an Accord wagon though but I suppose that's where it would fit in their lineup. Here's a link to the Honda Japan site with info on the Stream which the article says the new wagon will be based on:
