Well, if you look at where Infiniti sells the most cars, it seems likely those are the areas that will get large allocations while dealers in Mudwater MI will get maybe 1 or 2 G35 coupes a month.
For anyone's information, based on phone calls I made to 4 dealers in the metro Atlanta area I found out the following: Though Infiniti posted pricing on the the www.infinitinews.com (the Nissan/Infiniti news bureau site) for the G35 coupe yesterday, all the dealers, including one manager said they had no info on pricing as of today. A couple said they didn't have "classes" yet, so didn't know much about the car at all. If I'm a car salesman (which I'll never be) I'd do my homework with all the available info on the Internet and in the chat rooms like this one to stay one step ahead. What a bunch of yo-yos.
Anyway, 3 of the 4 said they wouldn't charge over MSRP (one flat out said they would), 1 of the 3 said the sunroof was not part of the Premium Package even though the Infiniti site said it was. The idiot said you can't trust the web site - sounded like a gimmick to up the price. Well, I called and spoke to Kurt von Zumwalt, Director of Product and Consumer PR for Nissan/Infiniti, and he said the dealers should have received the pricing packet ahead of the press release! He also said he didn't know about the sunroof exclusion from the Premium Pkg. Further, he said they discourage dealers from charging over MSRP, but couldn't control their pricing policies. Finally, he told me they were only producing 12,000 coupes, so supply will be low.
Oh, to i tried to check colors from cheerioboy26's suggestion, but the pre-order wouldn't open. I'll try again later.
I wasn't attempting to compare a G35 coupe to a 530i sedan. I just happened to look into getting a 530i last fall through European Delivery and wanted to offer an alternative price comparison. This is an Infiniti forum, so I don't want to belabor the issue, but since your figures were so much higher, here's what I calculated you could have gotten a new 2002 330ci for:
Base ED invoice price: $29,610 Options at invoice: sport package ($545), premium package ($2,640), bi-xenons ($635), metallic paint ($430) = $4,250 total Destination & handling = $645
Invoice total: $34,505 Dealer profit: $1,200 to $1,500 Total price: $35,705 to $36,005
The key to making ED work is finding a BMW dealer willing to discount the price to $1,200 to $1,500 over the ED invoice. The 3/5 series boards are full of people who have successfully negotiated such deals throughout the country.
If you prefer a G35 coupe to a 330ci, that is certainly your perogative. But if you are doing a cost benefit analysis, the ED program does bring the cost of a BMW down much more substantially than your MSRP figures suggest. I have a friend taking delivery of a the above 2003 330ci in Munich in late October for a total price of $35,950. He was going to take his wife and kids along, but is now going by himself just to get the car. Estimated trip cost is about $800.
If you are interested, check out www.eurobuyers.com for more information, including the actual ED invoice prices.
I would agree that a G35 looks like a good deal if you are comparing to BMW's at MSRP. That's just not how I would look at it.
I just checked out the "pre-order" of the G35 coupe on infiniti.com. Apparently, you can't get the six-speed on the base car. To get the six-speed, you've got to order the Premium Package, bringing MSRP close to $35K. In addition, the Premium Package comes with "summer tires"...something I don't want in Michigan!
Hey Infiniti, how 'bout offering a base car with six-speed and nothing else? (That Acura CL is suddenly looking better.)
Hello everyone and I hope that you are having a great day.
My impression after reviewing the new pricing information on the Infiniti web site is that the base package will not be available initially. Does it look the same way to you?
Maybe Infiniti wants to release the higher profit models first to maximize profits at the introduction.
Please give me your opionions on the following:
1. Will the base G35 Coupe have a problem with resale without leather or the moonroof??
2. Will the lack of a premium package hurt resale value?
Living in Florida I really prefer not to have leather in the summer heat. At the same time I dont want to buy a configuration that I cannot sell down the road.
According to one dealer, the Premium Package automatically comes with the 6MT model, so why is it an option if it's not optional? I'm confirming this info with another dealer. (I don't know about it being included with the base model since I want a six speed.)
Personally, I think resale value will be a wash without the Premium Package if you can order it that way with the base. Someone out there will want it and will pay you less, but then again, you've paid less to begin with.
Infiniti knows the initial buyers are salivating for this car so they can sell the premium 6 speeds first. Give the car 6-8 months and I'm sure you'll see reasonable package options then.
Heck infiniti is already changing the 2003 G35 sedan. They are listening to buyers.
An Infiniti print out to a local dealer here in Atlanta confirmed the following packages for the 6MT (6 speed manual): Aero Pkg + Bose upgrade + Sunroof; Aero + Navigation System + Premium Pkg; Aero + Premium; Aero + Sunroof; Bose + Sunroof; Navigation + Premium; Premium only; Sunroof only. You just can't get it now without "options".
I was so determined that I will get the G35 Sports Coupe soon as it will come out but after looking at the pre-order form as some other mentioned that you can’t get it the way you want; in order to get what you need looks like the only choice you have is to get the highest model w/ full package. That really brings the price really high for a class vehicle. I don’t know how many out there knows that the lease payment is always higher for Infiniti and the insurance as well. So if you really ask me for a better choice I can tell you this much that even a BMW w/ MSRP of $42,000 on special you can get it for about $450 p/m lease where as even with MSRP of 35,000 the payment will be the same, maybe a little higher for Infiniti. So I am having a second though. Right now I am comparing the G35 w/ 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix (Available in Spring 2003). They don’t have much info about the car yet but so far I found out that it’s also a V6 w/ 280hp and 3.8L (G35 is 3.5L). Awesome looking car, seen it at the Auto Show. It’s a sports sedan but the way it looks you will definitely change your mind after you take a peek at it face to face. It will definitely get everyones attention when you will drive by any place. You can check it out at the Edmunds future vehicles line up.
I was wondering where you found a $42, 000 BMW lease for only around $450, unless you meant with a lot of money down? In Northern NJ, any BMW with an msrp around 40 to 42,000 is around $570 to $620 a month depending on the dealership. I've been to almost every dealer around here for a 330ci and haven't found any willing to go even into the mid 500s because they don't need to. When I've been to some of the local Infiniti dealers I found some more more accomodating leases on G35s in the high 400s to low 500s for a close to loaded car. I really would like to know where you've found BMW in the lease price you mentioned because then I might not wait for the G35coupe or the 350Z.
A general rule of thumb, and it is just a rough guide, would be the 2% rule. Take the MSRP of the car, and your lease payment on a 36 month term will be around 2% per month. This usually includes all taxes rolled into the lease. Each $1000 the dealer wishes to discount the car will result in a savings to the consumer of around $30 per month. Keep in mind, that the car is still being sold, but now it is being sold to a leasing company. If a particular car manufacturer throws a bunch of incentives into the car, lease payments come down.
Lets try to get this straight. The 6 speed comes with the following options:
Performance tire and wheel package Brembo brakes Parking hand brake Double mass flywheel Unique console
You will need to have leather and heated seats before you can order a 6 speed.
Every other option is at your discretion. Can you get one without a sunroof or premium package? Probably not at the beginning. With so few cars available, dealers will mostly be ordering fully equiped cars. You can order your car to your own specs, but since each dealer has very few order/production slots each month, you may still have to wait some extra time before your "base" car gets ordered. In answer to an earlier question, historically, higher end cars that do not have sunroofs and premium packages, have lower re-sales values and are much harder to sell.
No this is not Ruski but hey any discussion about comparing cars I’m there if I knew in advance of course. And I don’t live in NJ so I am not sure how a thing works there. But since you wanted to know where you can get a special deal? Well you really have to wait for the right moment and be at the right place. I should have mentioned that you don’t get this kind of deal often and you have to be really up to date with news paper ads b/c when its comes for clearance season there are few dealer in Long Island, NY gives special deal on BMW. Last year a friend of mine got a BMW 330i loaded for only $450 after putting down about $4000 down. Just for the reference I am not encouraging you to buy a BMW b/c I really don’t give a [non-permissible content removed] about what other gets. I really don’t care about any name brand that much but I look where can I get a special deal. If you really want to get a car that you can brag about than you really have to know about your car very well. Just b/c you got yourself a BMW doesn’t mean that you got the best car in the town. Always look for the performance of the car b/c that counts more than anything, unless you want to be like average people who just look for a brand name. Well anyway good luck.
I had a feeling that the $450 was with a chunk of money down. With just inception fees down the lease on the BMW would wind up back in the high $500s which is what all the dealers around here are asking. That's the norm. A lot of papers around here list these so called specials, but that's the same deal you can get anytime. They just advertise the reduced number so people think it's a good deal, but if you don't want to put a lot of money to lower the cap cost it's the same basic lease price. The local NY/NJ dealers are famous for doing this, not just BMW, but all the local brand dealers. I spend a lot of time researching prices both in person, the paper, and on the net, so I had a feeling I wouldn't have let a real i.e. no money down $450 lease price on a $42,000 BMW slip by. I've been in love with the 330ci for a long time, but I've always felt that BMW's leases are too high, then again that's based on the fact that they only discount the cars between $800 to $1500 if you're lucky. I'm not into the 330ci for the BMW name, nor am I into the 350Z, or G35c for their status. I love these cars for the way they drive. I've found that the leases on BMWs and Mercedes to be much higher as per their msrps/invoices versus comparable Lexuses and Infinitis which is why I was surprised at your earlier comments. Maybe it's just a NY/NJ kind of thing. I know discounting varies from state to state.
I am undecided on the exterior color among diamond graphite, brilliant silver and desert platinum. I'm certain I want the graphite interior with sport (titanium) trim. Any opinions on which way I should go??
I went to midway infiniti to test drive the g35 sedan again and to take a look at the new coupe and the z. I must say it looks hot. The only problem is the dealer said that when they release them, they will start out 3,000 over sticker price. Yikes
Although anyone who is currently salivating over the new G35 coupe, like I am, wants to run out and get one when they first release...they would probably be smarter to wait a while until the prices go down. And give it time to see how well it performs. I plan to wait a year and then start shopping for the best price. Vanity will cost you $$$.
I have a good discussion with Infiniti's PR folks. The release date for southern California is Nov 2. Call the PR folks and I am sure they will search the order db and let you know. If you think you are getting the run around, tell the PR folks you have money on hand and would like to commit between BMW or G35 and would like to have info on the rolling date for your area.
For most dealer within CA, they are willing to accept MSRP, but getting your hand on one in the first batch is another story. To find a dealer asking at msrp and not $nK over. Go to the Infiniti website and search for dealerships, than call each one up and I'm sure you will find a dealership in your area will deal at msrp. Even at msrp is too high. If anyone know how to make a lower deal with such a hot car at first release stage, please post info.
You can't beat the law of supply and demand. I wouldn't expect to get a G35C under msrp for at least a few months after its release. Unless you have some kind of special connections with a dealership I would wait for prices to fall.
Have anyone out there purchased/ordered a g35 coop? I visited a local dealer (Boston area) and put a down deposit for first refusal on a g35 coop. He did not give me a price and just quoted as "market value". He claimed that they don't know the price yet which I thought was an outright lie. Too bad that has to be part of their job. The salesman told me that it would cost me 39K for a loaded 6 speed. I will have to see the car and talk about the price when the car arrives in December.
They know the price - they just want to get you committted (even if the deposit is refundable) and let the sheet metal work its magic when the car comes in. By the time the car arrives, they'll have a better idea of how many are willing to pay over MSRP so they can maximize their profit by getting what market will bear. I'd view it unlikely you'll get the car for MSRP or below, but you might. It all depends on supply and demand.
You have nothing to lose leaving your deposit, other than the use of your money for a few months, so if the idea of walking when the car comes in doesn't bother you, I'd leave it there. But if you want to get a car delivery nailed down, then I'd find a dealer willing to commit to a price. MSRP is probably the best you can hope for if you want one of the firsts ones.
With the proposed total production for the American market pegged at 1200 per month (divided among 160 dealers) it might take years before the supply actually outpaces the demand. Most Infiniti dealers will sell at MSRP. Why wait what could be years,(or never) for a small discount when you can be enjoying the car all the while. Even at $35,000 for a fully equiped car, it is still thousands less than many of it's competitors. At our dealership, we have pre-sold most of our first two months allotment. One or two are still available, but as we get closer to release date, we expect the wait time to increase.
Ok, here are my thoughts. I went down to the local Infiniti dealer in my part of SoCal as they were showcasing the coupe and the M45. Here are my assesments:
Exterior: Absol UTELY beautiful! Great lines! The wheels are awesome as well, although, you can't rotate the tires (225/45 18's in front and 245/45 18's in back) which kind of stniks. Still, a homerun on the exterior. Some problems I had were with the hood having prop rod instead of being on hydraulics (for $33K, a prop rod is kind of cheap!).
Interior: Here is where this car falls short. The interior plastics, IMO are about on level with the new Altima. My 02 Maxima is WAY better (again IMO)! I was NOT impressed. After seeing the exterior, I was sold. I then got "unsold" when I sat in it. You guys be the judge, but it was really cheap in there. Plus, no auto headlights (for $33K) and no auto-dimming rear-view mirror (for $33K). Plus the rear-view mirror felt as though it had come out of a Geo. One thing I liked was the way the clutch and the shifter felt. I am sure this thing drives awesome.
Which brings me to my point. I think when Nissan spends more on the exterior, the interior loses out (a.k.a. the Altima and G35 Coupe) and when they spend more on the interior, the exterior loses out (a.k.a. my Maxima). Maybe all this still has to do with Nissan trying to make up all the debt they got from the 90's. Any other opinions?
Oh yeah, the M45 was AWESOME!! Sign me up for one of those bad boys!
I sat in the sedan version this weekend when I was at the dealership. I agree that the interior does not have the quality compared to the Audi A4 or the BMW. However, as a total package, this is a much better value. I think once you drive this car (sedan or coop) you'll forget all about the initial impression of the interior. Since they are going for that new sleek look, the clean interior design does go well with the exterior style. I think of it as more of a refined sports car rather than a luxury anyway. I think it's about time we stop associating wood with high interior quality. I had a Country Squire with wood paneling. That was enough wood to last me for a while. )
You make a good point, but initial impressions sometimes keep a person from even bothering with a test drive. It took me a seat in the G35 for me to decide to not seriously think about Infiniti for a few years. The headliner in the showroom model was already coming off and then, to my shock, I pulled off the passenger's side grab handle. I certainly wouldn't mind putting up with an Altima interior to get that engine but I don't think the interior of the G35 was even quite up to the Altima's standards. It was closer in quality to an Oldsmobile Alero. Not good.
I got a brochure in the mail. It advertised 280hp but had no interior shots. I still think the trunk is way to high.
I truly hope that the interior is not as bad as you guys have mentioned. I have first refusal on a 6 speed with premium and sports package. I may have to wait until next year until they can take care of the complaints.
The first coupes are not scheduled to arrive in the US until the first of November or so. What you sat in is probably one of the very few pre-production models that are making the rounds of all the Infiniti dealers. We had one here about three weeks ago, and it was a little rough around the edges. Some buttons were not working, and some of the inside features will be changed once production cars are available. As a side note: I was able to drive this bad boy after hours. It was equiped with the 6 speed MT. The handling was fantastic and the quickness of the car was not to be believed. I had it up to 80 in third, and it got there very quickly. This is going to be one heck of a car, and very hard to get. Do pay MSRP, but don't pay more.
Isn't the G35 Coupe interior just lifted from the sedan and identical (except for those drilled aluminum pedals)? All that hard plastic (with the faux metalic finish)looks inelegant and unlikely to wear very well. (The G35 sedan I test drove already showed signs of wear on the plastic dash...)
One concern I have is how will the Navg system holding up with the pop-up config. The current design let the user pop-up the unit and after use push-down. To me that seem to be too many moving parts. What is the wearing going be like, if I am hearing the fadding of the center console. Most car integrate the Navg screen directly to the dashboard. Only one other car play the hide and go see trick for the Navg screen is the new Camery, there it was the flipping type.
Your head touches the rear window. I am 6'1, though, so it might work for smaller people. I am sure the model I saw was a pre-production, but the if the interior does not improve, I could care less about performance. I can always buy a Z and save money.
Obi P.S. Most likely the car I sat in DID NOT have the premium package.

Base ED invoice price: $29,610
Options at invoice: sport package ($545), premium package ($2,640), bi-xenons ($635), metallic paint ($430) = $4,250 total

Invoice total: $34,505
Dealer profit: $1,200 to $1,500
Total price: $35,705 to $36,005

I would agree that a G35 looks like a good deal if you are comparing to BMW's at MSRP. That's just not how I would look at it.
What in the world? Tack on the premium, shipping, sport and xenons and it's at 38k again.
Addendum: Okay, you're talking about the euro delivery wholesale prices! wow. That's a tremendous bargain.
