Thanks guys! So, I just called one of the local dealers and right off the bat he offered me a G37x AWD with Prem package + wood Trim for $37,035. This seems about $2430 below MSRP. According to Edmunds, MSRP on this car is $39,465, invoice is $36,362 and TMV is $37,448. Dealer's offer is with 0% APR financing. I didn't even start negotiating yet. What do you guys think? What should be my offer?

So I finally found a dealer with a base G37 coupe manual. Exactly what I'm looking for. Apparently, people in the East coast only want fully loaded automatics. It's a leftover 2008 model, but it's brand new.

MSRP is $38,365 (has a spoiler and 1 or 2 very minor options. Otherwise, bone stock)

I called and the sales lady called me back very quickly with a quote.: $29,995.

Pounce on the deal or do you think I can haggle further?

    Thanks everyone! :)

In this day and age forget MSRP its a meaningless number except for calculating a lease payment.

TMV is an average of price are paying, including the people that walk on the lot without any knowledge of pricing and overpay so in my book it is a worthless number as well.

You should be negotiating based on invoice. Since you are taking the 0% financing you should shoot for around invoice. I leased a new sedan last month for invoice and that included the dealer added window tint, wheel locks, 3 year dent-less ding repair and $100 gas card.

2,430 below MSRP is not a good starting offer considering that the national dealership negotiation was $2,500 off this past month (July). I think you should make some calls to dealers mentioned (D.C., Metro Infiniti) to secure a stronger deal over the phone. You should end up at least $4,000 below MSRP if not $5,000 MSRP if you are paying cash. There are tons of G37 AWD left on lots throughout the country - go outside of your local area to increase your negotiating power.

True indeed. Gf got hers at 4.5k below msrp with special 2.9% financing.
  • kingpcgeekkingpcgeek Member Posts: 1,051
You are giving invalid information. The OP already said he was going for the 0% financing, so that means NO $2500 deal cash.

I think you're in the ballpark now - you may get a couple of more hundred off or a dealer to throw in tint. Dealers these days drop close to the transaction price right off the bat because if they don't you will never call back nor go in to look at the vehicles.

Brooke37 is adding in the $2500 that you can get if you don't take the 0%. With the $2500 extra off you would be at $4930 off total. If the dealer is close to you and you like the way you are treated you should get it.
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
Yes, right now on the G37 convertibles - most (all that I know of) are selling them for MSRP (some are charging over). If you wait a few months, that may change. We have delivered about 10 at MSRP and have 14 more on order waiting to come in from Japan. :)
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
Yes - all non-incentive rates through IFS are good for 63 months, regardless of Tier.
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
Pounce! Pre-owned G37 coupes are trading for about that amount! :)

Are you able to tell me where you are looking, b/c that deal looks great?! I have been in contact with several dealers of different makes (G37 included) around Portland via email over the past week, and it seems like the car dealers in Oregon are much harder to bargain down to invoice +500. Does not having a sales tax give the car dealers more bargaining power?

    thanks

I want to buy G37 journey, but don't know how much is a good price when I go to negotiate with dealer. Thanks for help.
  • txflyboytxflyboy Member Posts: 1
I got a quote from Sewell for G37 Journey with premium package, illum kick plates, splash guards, black on black for $32,944. Crest quoted me $32,894 + $299 for tint. What is a good price for this car? Also, I do not believe in paying for Tint when buying a car...it should always be thrown in for free.
  • newmoon9newmoon9 Member Posts: 11
As for the Journey with basic package, how is $30000 plus Tax fee?
  • wongster1wongster1 Member Posts: 6
Sewllgsm is correct. I think you could bring it down few hundred dollars. I'm in the NY region too and got quoted for the same car for $36808. I did not buy yet b/c the dealer is not giving enough for my trade in and I wanted them to throw in tint. I might lose this opportunity to get a good deal especially the $2500 rebate, but I do not want to give in if I'm losing out on the trade in.
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
txflyboy - these are both good prices for the car - it is an awesome car! As for the tint, there is a cost associated with tint - so some people want tint "thrown in for free" where as others rather save the additional $200 or so that tint cost. If the dealer gave you their "best" price then they could not just "throw in" tint; otherwise, they did not give you their "best" price in the first place. If a dealer is making some money on a deal, they will always be willing to "throw in" a few freebies to make you happy at the end because they had room in the deal to throw them in and usually the customer feels great about it. However, when you get the deal down to the bone and they can not afford to throw anything else in - then you know you got the best deal. Remember you trade and the financing are just as important as the price of the car. Feel free to call me. Remember, I am bias - I run the Sewell sales department, so listen to what others on the forum have to say as well. :)

Is there a good dent removal system available from the dealer at purchase , or a clear bra that is worthwhile ? I recently saw a used G37 with ugly clear coat lines.
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
Most dealers will have a warranty to offer for dent/ding removal (ours is $599 for 5 years, unlimited use) or you can roll the dice and just pay for the dent/dings as they occur - generally cost about $80 or so a panel. As for clear bras, we use a guy who does a great job, he charges $399 for the front bumper and for the hood/fenders/mirrors. If you get right up on it you are going to see it no matter how good a job they do. If your leasing it, I wouldn't worry about it - if your buying I would consider it. :)
  • test007test007 Member Posts: 10
    Txflyboy,

Question Are these prices with $2500 rebate or without rebates.
$32,944 journey with premium package, kick plates, splash guards.
    $30000 Journey.

If these are without rebates, Prices are excellent
    $32,944 - $2500= $30444 for premium ..
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
Test007 - that is unrealistic. The vehicle that txflyboy is looking at (09 G37 sedan Journey with a Premium pkg) is going to have a MSRP around $37,405 (depending on other small options). Prices he as been quoted are around $4500 off of MSRP - this is the going price around Texas ($2000 off from the dealer, $2500 dealer cash from Infiniti) - you can see many examples of this on other post on this forum. To suggest someone could get close to $7000 off is setting themselves up for the impossible. Maybe you did not realize he was looking at one with a Premium Pkg??? :confuse:
  • test007test007 Member Posts: 10
    Thanks for clarification

I was just trying to understand what txflyboy was referring to.
All discount and $2500 dealer cash from infiniti were included in the price. Gotcha.
  • wongster1wongster1 Member Posts: 6
The dealer wouldn't budge when I went back to the dealer asking them to throw in the tinted windows. One good thing is they were able to show me their dealer invoice, which is exactly what they offer dealer invoice less $2500 rebate. But one thing I did not understand is why there's a line item called "warranty supplemental recovery fee", which is $205 on the dealer invoice. Any ideas?
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
Infinitis "warranty supplemental recovery fee" - I hate this one. Here is the story as I've been told. Infiniti realized that in some regions of the US, they had more warranty claims than in other parts - mostly due to harsh weather conditions. So, Infiniti started charging the dealers a fee, the dealers did not think this was fair - so one of them sued Infiniti based on their franchise agreements, etc. So, to stay within their agreement, Infiniti just charged the fee per vehicle sold to the dealer in that region. The "wsrf" changes about every 6 months or so based on amount of warranty claims Infiniti has had. Right now in Texas it is $260!! I think Infiniti should just include it into the base price of the vehicle and not single out like it is some type of option, but they do.

Bottom line is two vehicle may have the same MSRP but have different invoice amounts based on what state they were delivered to. Unfortunately, the dealer has to pay this amount to Infiniti and then the cost gets passed on to the customer.

Guess in stinks to live in tough climates like Texas! Hope this helps. :confuse:
  • wongster1wongster1 Member Posts: 6
Thanks for the info. At least you explained better than the dealer I went too. To me the dealer didn't realized what this is for. I think this is unfair to charge add'l warranty fee b/c all car comes with warranty already. Like you said, if Infiniti thinks certain regions are at higher risk Infiniti should just bump up the MSRP and don't show this line item on dealer invoice. I live in NY, so I don't get the heat but I plenty of snow. Let see could I make this argument to the dealer and get a the dealer to knock down $200. Do you know how much the dealer charge for tinted windows? Maybe I substitute $200 for the tinted windows since the dealer does not want to throw it in.
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
Just remember the dealer had to pay that invoice price to get the car in the first place, so I doubt they will just knock it down $200 more. There comes a point where it just does not make sense for a dealer to sell a car - they are better off selling it to someone else - it sounds like you got them to that point. So, you've done a great job. If you want tint just buy the tint. I'm sure if you bought the vehicle at MSRP,then they would throw in tint and spoilers and free oil changes, etc. because they could afford to but you've gotten them done to invoice, so there is no more room for anything. Enjoy the G37 - it is an awesome car! :D

    1st quote $33,077, any comments?
    Thx.

Depends on your financing. If you are intend to get the special low interest rate financing from Infiniti it is a very good deal. If you intend to pay cash or not use the special financing its about $1000 too high.

well, I would love that car as well. How do you find that kind of deal without phoning? Are they listed somewhere?
  • swy81swy81 Member Posts: 13
Well, I found another deal. I would appreciate everyone's feedback.

The other deal I found and listed on here, the car wasn't exactly "fresh off the lot". It had about 150 miles on it. Possible dealer test drive car. =(

I found a new leftover 2008 G37 Manual coupe. The MSRP on this is $44,800. It's fully loaded with every single possible option. Everything but the kitchen sink.

I've haggled it down to $35,500. Possibly go lower or should I go for it?

    Thanks.
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
I think it is pretty close. Does it have any other small options like splash guards or glass sensors? Remember, your trade and financing are just as important. :)
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
$9300 of MSRP (even on a 2008 model) is awesome! They are obviously desperate to rid themselves of this 08 model - that is a good deal. :)
  • rusduderusdude Member Posts: 41
I've been looking at a used 2007 G35 Sedan (Journey or X, pref. red) but it seems the prices for new 2009 G37 Sedans (and even more so used) are very competitive with used car prices for 2007-2008 models ($25-26K+ for '07-'08).

Does it make sense to buy a used 2007 model which maybe slightly more tricked out (even though I do NOT need Nav or Sport) or should I go for 2009 G37? I'm thinking of taking advantage of PenFed's "auto payment saver" program so payments on 2009 wouldn't be that much higher because of higher residual value.

Also, is it just me or does Texas not have any G35/G37 AWD (X) models for sale? I know, we probably don't need it down here in Houston, but it's pretty strange to see nothing but Journeys listed for sale.
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
rusdude - You make a good point. After the stock market crashed, it seemed a lot of people started buying pre-owned vehicles instead on new. Their values have held steady for quite some time, but Infiniti could not sit around and die. They have come out with some great incentives and the difference between the two is not that much. If you lease a new one, your payment could even be lower than a one or two year old pre-owned one.

As for AWD in Texas, Infiniti does not allocate that many AWDs for the South, plus we don't sell that many, so we don't order that many, and since we don't order that many we don't have any to sell and you get the picture! ;)

I have received offers from several dealers for an 09 G37 Journey with Premium Package. Trunk cargo net and splash guards (non-sport) are dealer add-ons that seem to be included by nearly all dealers with this configuration. So far the best offer I have received for this combination using the $2,500 manufacturer to dealer marketing support is $32,703. There dealer processing fee is $399 in addition to the $32,703 so my out the door price including the processing fee but excluding TTL is $33,102. The dealer is about 1.5 hours from where I live. I would like to get $2,500 below invoice (Edmunds lists the invoice for this config. as $34,378), but so far I have not been able to get there. I tried to get the above offer down by $500 but the dealer wouldn't go for it. I am in a city with only 1 Infiniti dealer (who has not been willing to work with me beyond their initial offer of invoice combined with IFS' special financing of 2.9 for 60 or 3.9 for 72 OR $1,000 under invoice with no special financing), so I have had to go to other dealers in the region to create competition. I feel like there has to be a better deal out there given the current incentives, but I am not going to drive 250 miles to save a couple hundred bucks. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.
  • members78members78 Member Posts: 140
    Hi mboro,

I suggest you get better offers from other dealerships within 250 miles, and when you get your goal of $2500 below invoice, call up your local dealership and allow them to match our outbid them. As an incentive, tell them you will bring your car to them for service and also give them the highest rating on the survey if they should match or outbid the other dealership.

I have a feeling if they're the only dealership in your area, then they might be picky and hold out for better offers. If they dont go for it, then F--- them and buy from the faraway dealership, assuming you were able to save an additional $1500 there. For that amount, you could get limo service to the dealership with two hookers and still save some bucks.

    Best wishes....
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
mboro - I think you are there. I assume the vehicle you mentioned stickers for around $37,225, so you are around $4100 off. That is a fair deal, sure if you were in a big city with 4 dealers - one may undercut the other for $100 or so, but to drive a couple hours away seems silly. members78 is right, if you could save $500 or more, it would be worth the trip - but I don't see that happening. Remember, your local dealer is the one you will be taking your car to for warranty work and maintanence - it is beneficial for you both to buy the car there as well - it gets you off to a good relationship. The car is worth $33k all day long - that is the most important thing to remember, be sure the financing and trade are fair - they are just as important as the price. :)

We just purchased the G37 with Premium, and the Navigation Package through Costco auto program. It included the splash guards, cargo net, illuminated kick plates and window sensor alarm. We had to pay a transport fee as they did not have the color we wanted on the lot ( we got stuck with that) and we paid $33,300. + 450 to get the car from a different lot. We added a change order to get the chrome rims and burl wood in lieu of the chrome trim inside. That bumped the price up.
  • wongster1wongster1 Member Posts: 6
sewellgsm - I finally got my car G37x w/ premium & wood for $33808 before TTL. This is $5980 off sticker, but remember this also includes the $2500 discount. Of course whoever read this will say this is an awesome deal. To me it's a good deal. On paper I got this car $500 below invoice, but received $1000 less than the trade in value according to KBB. So techincally I paid $500 over invoice, which is not to bad.

mboro - Like sewellgsm said, price is important, but trade in and finance is important too. If I did not have a trade in, I might not get this price. I believe the dealers will give you something, but at the same time take something back from somewhere.
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
Enjoy the car! As long as your happy, that is all that really matters! :D
  • mchang413mchang413 Member Posts: 11
We just purchased a G37 premium pkg, splash guards, and cargo net from Grubbs in the DFW area. the MSRP $37225.00. We paid 32,100 + TTL with window tint included.
  • dbltdblt Member Posts: 6
The reason our car was $1,000 more was we have the navigation package. Then we paid an additional fee to have the burl wood interior. It replaces all the chrome on the dash, side doors and gear shift. It looks beautiful. Enjoy your new car
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
That is a great deal for Dallas - the people at Grubbs are good (like Sewell :) - I'm sure you got good deal on your trade and with the financing package as well - enjoy the G37 - they are awesome! :D
  • mboromboro Member Posts: 2
Thanks very much for the feedback everyone. I have been watching this forum for months now and have learned a lot.

One last question - a dealer has quoted window tint "at their cost" of $159. I prefer to have it included "free of charge" obviously, but assuming I can't get the delaer with the best quote to throw it in, $159 seems reasonable to me. Agree?
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
Yes $159 is reasonable, you can always get your windows tinted at an after-market shop, but they are around the same price. ;)
  • dat2dat2 Member Posts: 251
That's an insane deal. The 08 manual coupe is identical to the 09 except for the switch to rotary seat heater controls. I just bought a leftover 08 coupe in San Jose for 7000 off and thought that was a great deal, but you've got me beat! What dealer is that located??
  • kingpcgeekkingpcgeek Member Posts: 1,051
I have seen two other small differences between my 08 & 09 sedan, not sure if its so for the Coupe. The 09 adds the auto lock feature when you hit 15mph and the green light in the cluster when your headlights are on. BTW I like the toggle versus the rotary. My wife drove for a week, in the middle of summer in Phoenix with the heater on because its impossible to see if they are on during the daytime.

That's probably what I'd like (kind of wavering on Nav package though). What color interior did you get to go with wood? I'm think garnet red outside & graphite inside.

@sewellgsm -- thank you for the response! In your opinion, do auto purchasing programs (like Costco or credit union) make a difference toward the final price if we already know how what is the reasonable price? I doubt that a dealer is going to go lower than $2500 off invoice either way.
  • jyguy915jyguy915 Member Posts: 2
Hi, I have been looking for a G37 journey with the premium package for a while now but still have not decided to pull the trigger yet. I have been quoted $32,405 with the premium+splash+glass senor+cargo net+destination fees. This is without the $2500 discount if paying cash. So that will be around $29905+TTL. I did some research and found out that last year around october-december time, all combined incentives was $4000. Do you guys think infinti will come out with some better incentives after this $2500 manufacture to dealer expire on 9/30/09? This is from nor-cal area. Or do you think they will probably cut everything out or be the same? Of course, no one really knows other than Nissan/Infinti but just want to know what you guys think. Thank you
  • members78members78 Member Posts: 140
hey jyguy, could you tell me what other incentives they had last year? i am also about to pull the trigger but dont want to miss out on a better deal. and btw, i think you got a great price already. i hope i can manage a great discount like that with the coupe AWD next month...

the dealerships around me have plenty of sedans and coupes lying around. im thinking there are some good deals to be made!
