Okay, a few questions for the experts...

    1) Will VPP be available for the 2011 G37 convertible?

Within that, are all models covered, like the Limited Edition Baltec Black on red and a IPL configured car?

I'm torn...can't tell what the Baltec Black is going to look like in the sun---is it an eggplant purplish black or a solid black? Can't tell from the pics. I love the car, but REALLY like the IPL version too. May get the IPL convertible in more standard colors like red on black or something.

Either way...VPP for the 2011 Convertible? All models? Thanks!!!

    Here is my purchase info.

Emailed 8 dealerships within 300 miles. I had very specific requirements regarding the car and accessories. Four of the dealers wanted to work with me. After doing the best I could letting the dealerships compete with each other I finally threw out the VPP plan "D" request. Much to my surprise the VPP beat the best quote by ~300. So here are the specifics:

2010 G37 Sedan Journey Moonlight white, wheat
    Prem.
    Navi.
    Maple accents.
    all season mats
cargo net, first aid, trunk mat.
    illuminated kick plates
    splash gaurds

    $36080.00 All, minus taxes
    249.00 Doc
    120.00 title registration something
Delivered to the house from ~200 miles from dealer.

    Brewbaker Infiniti
    Montgomery AL.
    Very pleasant experience!

Yea any dealer named "Brewbaker" must be good! Did they throw in a pint of lager with the deal??

Congrats on your new sweet G!

Let me give the perspective of the dealer on your situation. It seems to me you don't understand the VPP process. It is a non-negotiable price (invoice price) set for you by Infiniti. So, there was no reason for you to email 8 dealers and waste time of 7. You simply pick the dealer you would prefer to work with (maybe because they come recommended or distance to your home) and let them know you are VPP. The price will be the exact same no matter which dealer you go to (assuming the MSRP is the same).

Now, if you have a trade-in that could make a difference and any accessories or doc fees could make a small difference.

Next time - save the drama and let them know you are VPP up front.

Others wonder why dealers don't call them back or what takes so long and they assume the dealer does not want their business. We do want the business. But when folks email every dealer in the state - it bogs the dealers down. Most dealerships only sell about 5% of their internet leads, not because they stink, but because folks send leads to 20 dealers and they can only buy 1 car - so 1 dealer wins while 19 lose.

Just my 2 cents. Not recommeding you don't price compare a few dealers

Congrats on the car - it is awesome! Nice they delivered too, nice touch!

Yes, but 1 customer wins while the other 19 customers that didn't do it, lose. I guess I have to side with the customer. Internet sales by their very nature are going to entail a lot of price comparison shoppers and I think dealers realize this. They don't have to participate in internet sales if it's not profitable for them. It's a time saver for everyone involved. Would you rather have a salesperson spend an hour with someone only to have them go to another dealer and play that game? How long does it take to respond to an internet inquiry by somebody sitting in the back room?

If someone has VPP in their backpocket why not see what you can do. For example, 2010 EX35s are selling for way below invoice. If you just went with VPP you would be leaving money on the table and from what I've seen on the EX prices paid and local ads, a lot of money if you bought at invoice! The Gs not quite as much but a lot of times well below invoice with manufacturer money.
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
You have a point. I think the more realistic number is 3 or so dealers, not 8+

VPP is invoice plus the customer gets the dealer cash, so on the EX example you would be $4000 below invoice if you chose not to lease or take rate.

The VPP is the best deal. End of story. If a dealer is offering something better than what they paid for the vehicle - get your radar up, they are doing something to make that money up - trust me (LOL) - I work at the dealership!

FWIW, my take on the VPP is that it more valuable the closer one is to the model year release. For example, in late July I did what some have suggested and contacted (by phone, perhaps to show I was serious) 4-5 dealers about a G37x sedan, knowing I had the VPP in my pocket.

I was amazed that even with 30 + units on most of their lots, invoice minus dealer cash was the best I could do - essentially the VPP. In fact, a few were just marginally under invoice and were rather arrogant about it!

In the end, the VPP was not much help to me. I made the decision that I'd rather not have basically a model-year-old car from day one, and went with another manufacturer.

To my initial point, had I been looking now at the 2011 model, using the VPP may have made more sense. No, I would not get the dealer cash, but I'd have a brand new model.

Interesting replies. I feel certain the dealers I contacted had the opportunity to realize I was serious about a purchase. The email was very detailed about my intentions and the fact that dealers would compete for my business. As it turned out I could not beat the Vpp on my own negotiation. At that point all dealers had their chance to earn my business again via a vpp sale. As you can imagine I still got no response from the same dealers that failed to reply earlier. The dealer that was the most responsive and following MY request initially also had the cheapest doc fees with vpp. Obviously an easy choice on which dealer to go with. Additionally the car i purchased was involved in a dealer trade to get it to their dealership and get it cleaned up. They drove hundreds of miles with a flatbed hauled to get it. The car was driven to my home by the same salesman I was dealing with. He brought the infiniti financing package with him too. Great point on the year model topic. That's not a big concern to me for various reasons. Overall great experience!

With VPP, you should still get any and all promotion available, including dealer cash. However, greedy dealers will try to keep the dealer cash for themselves, since they figure that you have got a good price already.

I have seen a lot of talk about VPP pricing(I am eligible for plan D), and I will be going to do a test drive tomorrow evening. WIth the 2011 g37 on the lots now, will vpp be the best price on the 2010 models? WIll there be any additional incentives added soon on the 2010 models? Or will the VPP pricing be the best on the 2011 models.

So which dealer did you go with?

    Brewbaker in Montgomery Al.

Looking at a G37x Sedan with Premium and Sport packages. Dealer has it on sale for 34330 before taxes, is that better than vpp? Or aboue the same? Supoosed to finalize it tomorrow.

I made my first trip to a dealer in Mass hoping to get a 2010 G37X. with premium and Nav.

I had a true car quote on a 2010 for $36,800. Surprise, surprise, when I go to the they didn't have any 2010's with Nav, only 2011's. I didn't have my trade in car with me but the salesman said he thought the 2011 was going to cost roughly $1500 more than the 2010, and that the best financing for a 5 year was 2.9 While these #'s aren't horrible for the 1st pass, I still felt like there was some bs going on.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.
  • m6userm6user Member Posts: 3,181
There was very little official price increase from '10 to '11 so it sounds like the salesman was talking about "street price". If, in fact, he is indicating his pricing for the '11 is only about $1500 that is pretty reasonable IMO. After all, it is a model year newer and unless you keep it for 5+ years you will get most of that back in resale but even then you will get some back for a year newer car. The financing for 5 yrs at 2.9 is not bad either. Usually the best rates are for 36 mos from what I've read.
  • smokee2smokee2 Member Posts: 6
    @m6user,

That was my thinking as well. The salesman mentioned that there was less of a dealer incentive for the '11 models which again, makes some sense to me, but I'd still rather not pay much above $36 for the car.

    We shall see.

You can probably get a 2011 G37 with Prem + Nav for $35K. I only paid $33K for 2010 Journey sedan with with Prem + Nav.

    That gives me some hope

VPP will get you invoice minus incentives on either car - so go with the 2011! The difference in incentives is only $500. The 2011 will be worth around $3000 more than a 2010 3 years down the road. :)
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
    Mid-Month update:

Infiniti just gave another $1000 on the coupe and convertible! This can be used with a purchase or lease. This is on 2010 - I think this will be the last/best incentive to help us sell our final 2010 units.

No help on the sedan because those are very limited in supply (so no help needed). :(

Got an offer of $2300 under invoice (SoCal area). Seems like a pretty good deal, plan on inking the deal tomorrow if I have time. Best other dealers in area have offered is $2k under, with a couple dealers that would not go even that low.

I really wanted an AWD version, but they are extremely rare in 2010 here in SoCal. Was wondering what the best deal is I could likely get on a 2011 G37X with premium only?

I priced a 2004 G35 against a 2005 G35 both with 80k miles and there was only a $600 estimated difference (kbb). Since I plan on keeping the car for at least 5 years, I don't figure it is worth paying much more for a 2011 version. Was thinking if I could get $1400 under invoice on a 2011, I would take that deal...any chance of that?

I'd like a G37x coupe with premium and nav. I'm not in a hurry. Should I wait a little bit or buy now? I noticed last year around this time Infiniti added some awesome incentives. Incentives not so great right now, compared to last year. Dealers in my area seem to have quite a few coupes. Any advice?

I am looking for a G37S with prem + Nav and one of the local dealers told me they can't find any in the whole country. What area are you in?
  • daddyreadaddyrea Member Posts: 3
    I'm in Chicago area. I haven't seen the G37S, just the G37x.

just picked up 2011 G37xAWD with premium & nav + mats & non-sport guards for 37,400. with tax & tags (6%) I was on the road for $40K. three weeks ago. hope this helps.
  • lmcjcaolmcjcao Member Posts: 16
    wow, that's good deal.

Anyone got good deal in Tx for 2011 G37 Journey with Premium + Nav? Can I get somewhere below the invoice?
  • chakpchakp Member Posts: 6
That is an excellent deal with $1000 under invoice. Would you mind sharing your dealer location? Thanks.

Want to lease a G37 or FX, first time leaser. Used this website to get a great deal on my wife's MDX, so I am wondering, are dealers going to negotiate a price for lease, the guy at Ann Arbor Infiniti seemed as if he has no room to work the price for a lease. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

So its 2000/ marketing support to dealers. Be nice if it was available to find somewhere on the internet.
  • milogaltmilogalt Member Posts: 6
which dealers in SoCal did you find good deals with? I am speaking with South Bay (Torrance), Mission Viejo (South of Orange County), and Metro (Monrovia)...currently have deals of 1.2K below (invoice + freight) for the 2011 G37 sedan premium (no nav)...

am willing to bite @2K below (invoice + freight) for the premium without nav...dunno if I am aiming off the market...

I like the exterior color, especially in sunlight where the deep red flecks show up. I don't love, but don't hate, the red leather seats. A salesperson told me a majority of customers don't like the red leather, and many hate it. I also don't need many of the appearance options. I'm looking at RWD sedans, not the AWD.

So I'm thinking, after these have been collecting dust in inventory for a couple-few months, there should be willingness to discount pretty heavily since they are costing the dealers in holding/carrying costs. Since I'm expecting they will be slow sellers at most dealers, there might even be a factory-to-dealer incentive toward the end of December just to clear out the LE model.

I'm in no rush so I may hold out for that, and if it doesn't happen, not a big deal. With say a $2000 FtD incentive, and realizing each dealer has different ability/willingness in a given month to cut further, I'm looking for $36000 before tax/registration fees.

That may be wishful thinking (it's a heavy discount), but my question is whether you'd consider that an impossible target for the average dealership? I suppose it gets more likely the farther into 2011 the LE's are still in inventory.
  • lhn5lhn5 Member Posts: 37
Any thoughts on the blue slate color? It is quite dark but of course less so than black. I wouldn't think it would be too popular but I like it. Would also consider black or less likely white.
  • hx699hx699 Member Posts: 20
    neeco51: "I am looking for a G37S with prem + Nav..."

What exactly is a G37S? Are you talking about a 2010 model and does it still exist for 2011 models (e.g. as the "Sport 6MT" or the Journey with the Sport Package, or the Sport Appearance Edition? Something else?)
  • milogaltmilogalt Member Posts: 6
closed the deal @2.1K below invoice price...2011 G37 Journey (Black on Black)...Premium, Navi, IKP, First Aid et al...Invoice price shows 37157 for the above config...got it for 35K even...
  • hx699hx699 Member Posts: 20
A nice deal milogalt! One of the best I've heard for a 2011.

If you don't mind, could you list the "closing costs" (tax, title, documentation fees, etc) that were added to your $35,000 even, and the final "out the door" price?
  • milogaltmilogalt Member Posts: 6
HX699, OTD is 39K even...if it helps, also got the zero down @0.9% (albeit on a 36-month payment timeline)...
  • bagmanss1bagmanss1 Member Posts: 3
Didn't end up getting the $2300 under invoice on 2010 sedan deal I talked about earlier...I had a noon appointment to buy it in Riverside but when I got there they said they sold it earlier that morning. Wasn't too happy about that, don't know if I was baited and switched or not, but they seemed extremely nice up there. Then they did me a favor by offering me $400 under invoice on a 2011...yeah right.

Anyways, ended up getting the same car in a different color ultimately from Tustin Infiniti for $2k under invoice (again, 2010 sedan). They were very easy to work with, held the car until I got there late the next day, and had all the paperwork done, so I was in and out in no time. No high pressure to buy other stuff either, which was nice.

I had a couple dealers offer me $1k under invoice on a 2011, but it sounds like you are doing better than that already. Some good deals that I passed on that might interest somebody else:

Infiniti of Montclair has a Silver/Black Premium only G37 Sedan with $3000 OEM Chrome wheels added on. They were willing to do $2k under invoice and I am betting you could get the chrome wheels for only $1500 extra. So if you like the OEM chrome wheels, that might be a good deal for you. Talk to George King.

Infiniti on Camelback in Arizona, had a Smokey Quartz/Premium only 2010 G37X they wanted to get rid of pretty badly. Really hard to find AWD in SoCal, but I was looking to get AWD, so I shopped a ways away. Anyways, if you want AWD, they will work you a great deal ($2k below or more). They also have two 2010 Anniversary Editions with Gray exterior and Red leather interior. They seemed quite anxious to get rid of those too, so if the red-leather is your thing and you wanted a loaded car, I bet you can work a really good deal with those guys. Talk to Casey Bruce.

If you are want a white exterior/stone-interior, there seems to be plenty of 2010's around in that config, so you can likely get a great deal on that color combo. I know Kearny Mesa Infiniti had 3 of them in stock in those colors, so maybe the best deal can be had there. However, I found they were a less willing to negotiate than most dealers...they seemed to take offense that i was shopping their pricing against dealers in OC. They offered me $1800 under invoice, but a few days later when I said I would do that deal, they told me they weren't going to do that deal after all since I wasn't buying an extended service plan from them as well. Your mileage may vary.

The guys at Hoehn Infiniti in Carlsbad were very easy to work with and offered me good pricing on 2011's, but I was looking for the extra savings of a 2010, which they had none.

I found Santa Monica infiniti unwilling to deal at all...they had a config I liked, but were slow to email me back and would never budge below $1250 under invoice on a 2010...not really on par with what everybody else was doing.

I'm not a great negotiator, so you may be able to do better.
  • milogaltmilogalt Member Posts: 6
Thanks for the info! I got the best deals from South Bay (very aggressive, almost makes you think they're best avoided) and Cerritos (certainly more positive energy than South Bay)...

Am not sure lowest price is the only way to go...anybody have any inputs on who is known for the best service in SoCal?
  • kaliforniakkaliforniak Member Posts: 51
Thank you. Your in put is very helpful to me since I'm looking for the exactly same configuration with prem + nav and live in SoCal, too. I'm waiting until January to see if Infiniti comes down with more incentives. Can you post the OTD price?

    Thanks!
  • jefftrolljefftroll Member Posts: 8
Some of you are posting that you got the car way below invoice. Truecar does not seem to reflect very many purchases like this. I was looking at purchasing a 2011 G37 w/ Premium for $500 under invoice using VPP. Am I better off avoiding VPP and just shopping around for more under invoice? Invoice is $35,122 + infiniti's regional warranty fee of about $150 for my area. So $500 under that. I would buy in a heartbeat if I could get the deal posted above, Nav, IKP, Prem for $35K even? Wow. I just don't want to have buyers remorse knowing I could have got $500 or even $1000 more below invoice. You are reaching dealer cost at those numbers. Maybe the dealers are just hurting in those areas but the Dallas area seems to be doing pretty good with some of the top dealers in the nation located here. I would do a road trip to get that 35K deal. Where was that?
  • bagmanss1bagmanss1 Member Posts: 3
OTD price broke down like this:

2010 G37 Sedan, Prem/Nav, IKP, Splash Guards, Cargo net, first aid, trunk mat

    MSRP = 40040
    Invoice = 36733

    Sale price = 34733
    CA Tax = 3043
    TTL = 490
    Doc fee = 55
    Misc gov. fees = 29
    ---------------------------------
    OTD price = 38350

Financed for 60 months through the Infiniti special rate of 1.9%, which saves a couple thousand in interest compared to market-rate financing.

The 2010's invoice for $554 cheaper than the 2011's for the same car, combined with 1000 better deal and the special financing, I figure going 2010 was going to save me about 2500 compared to a 2011. Since I tend to keep cars for about 7-8 years, the residual value difference at that age is almost nothing, so for me it made sense to find a 2010 and save some money. Your value equation may differ.
  • jefftrolljefftroll Member Posts: 8
There is one 2010 g37 with Prem, Nav, IKP, Trunk Mat, Net, First aid kit locally but it has 3000 miles on it. What would be a fair asking price for it? I think they are expecting to offer $1000 under invoice. I was thinking about asking for 34,700
  • milogaltmilogalt Member Posts: 6
For a 2010 G37 (I assume sedan) that has 3K miles, you should be able to get 2K below invoice...

I think you can get 1K below invoice on a 2011 G37 sedan with less than 200 miles on it...

Would recommend Cerritos Infiniti if you are buying in the SoCal area...
  • lmcjcaolmcjcao Member Posts: 16
I agree the DFW area is hard to get a good deal on the G37... so far I've seen 2011 with Premium + Nav @ invoice, but not any lower...
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
VPP is the best deal - 99% of the time. The other 1% is when a dealer is trying to dump a demo or vehicle that had damage, etc.

Watch trade-in value and financing....but VPP is set in stone.
  • sewellgsmsewellgsm Member Posts: 775
Here is the deal for November.

2010 (we only have 3 sedans left)

    Sedan: $1000 + Special Rates
    Coupe: $2000 + Special Rates
    Convertible: $3000 + Special Rates

    2011

    G25 Sedan: Special Rates
    G37 Sedan: $500 + Special Rates
    Coupe: not available yet
    Convertible: not available yet

As for October price averages: remember we are but one store (finished 3rd in Nation with 116 vehicles) in Texas, also these are averages - so some bought loaded vehicles, some bought demos, some had accessories, some had trade-ins, etc.

    8 G25 sedans: $807 over invoice
31 G37 sedans: $673 over invoice (remember on the 2010 folks got $1000 more off - so they were actually an average of $327 BELOW invoice)
    6 G37 coupes: $1187 BELOW invoice
    3 GCV: $1751 BELOW invoice

Hope this info helps with your shopping, if you want a 2010 better move quick, but realistically there is not enough difference in savings in my opinion - so if buying go for the 2011, if leasing compare payments because they are basically the same vehicle so whatever payment is better would be the way to go. (in my opinion) :D
