Thanks for the link to Nissan employees. I do have one question after looking at the site. It says the price is figured and then the incentives are subtracted. Is manufacturer to dealer cash considered an incentive under the employee pricing or is a cash rebate directly from manufacturer to the customer the only incentive that is subtracted?
hey, miata007, my cousin called me just now and telling me that he got an offer for 05 G35 RWD with premium package for 32,7XX, which is nearly 1K above edmund's invoice.
What's the dealer's name who gives u 1K above invoice?
mine is Infiniti of Mission Viejo.
Thanks.
(btw, the interior of TL is really nice. However, my family don't want to have another Front Engine/ Front wheel drive car. We have a A4 and matrix right now, and I really think the G35 RWD is much more fun to drive than those 2.)
If it helps I got an internet quote on the TL at 31,000 even. I am not sure what options you are looking at but the TL for intents and purposes does not have much in the way of add ons.
I am on the opposite coast from you so I am not sure how much this will help.
Just wanna share some info. about my purchase. I purchased a 05 G35 a few hours ago for 32839.99, Black/Black combo, premium and sport tuned package from Infiniti of Montclair. Doc. fee is 45 bucks, and OTD price is 35900.
(MSRP and TMV are $35,390, and invoice is $32,366, so, I got it for 2550.01 under MSRP, and 473.99 above invoice)
I will pick it up on Tuesday. I don't think many dealers will offer such deal at this time for 05. However, since it is raining heavily today, and it's nearly the end of the month, + some bargain efforts, they decided to give me this deal, probably only for today...
btw, they are now offering 5K off 04 too...
Good Luck! and thanks for all the information provided!
sounds like you got a great price. i just checked the edmunds site and it said the invoice for your could would be $32,760, so you got it below invoice. how did you negotiate so well? thanks in advance.
pkl123, I dont think I could get that deal on the G35x, because my G35 comes with sports package, which means the dealer can make more money out of it. Furthermore it was raining so badly that no one went to the dealer. It is also end of the month, so I guess they want better sales figures. Some dealers has already offered me 1K over invoice for 05 G35 + premium (internet quote), Furthermore, after my purchase, the dealer can import another 05 G35 into their inventory, which means they can earn money from the next customer, again. I went to the dealer at 5 something, and start bargain at around 7~8, which they close at 9. So, they want to close the deal eariler so that they can arrange the documents right away.
anyway, the weather really played a major role on determing the price.
However, also because of the rain, I could not check if there were any scratches on the car... it was all covered by rain drops, and the lights weren't birght enough. It is also meaningless to test drive it in the rain.
btw, the invoice price for my G35 is 32366, and i live in SoCal.
Thanks for the information. It looks like you got a really sweat deal. Nice Idea on shopping in the rain. I will keep that in mind as I shop here on the East coast in December.
who was your salesperson at montclair? i was there yesterday too around 3pm. i was looking at the 6mt coupes they had and compared the interior of the '04 and '05s.
We are not allowed to post the sale's peron name in the forum... give me your e-mail and I will give you some more information about the purchase...
according to my readings in the forums, it is really hard to get great discounts on the coupe, and I think the weather really helped me yesterday... (it's shinny today tho )
Posting your email address here is not a good idea. You will likely get a lot of spam. It is better to mark you email public for the Edmunds members. Also, don't you think a dealership is going to have the same set of rules and deals for all the salesmen? Seems like a dealership name and location should be enough to get a similar deal to someone else?
vsix, I got the price for $1000 over invoice from Infiniti of Elk Grove(Sacramento, CA). From what I read, I can probably go in there tomorrow and get it for a little be less...maybe. It's the end of the month tomorrow.
Just keep bargaining! You might even receieve a better deal than I do! I think the size and history of that dealer will affect their "invoice" price. Theoretically speaking, the more cars the dealer purchases, the more discounts that dealer can reveieve from the manufacture. Try to get it 300 above invoice, and I think that's possible if they are offering 1K above already. I went to Montclair because it is close to my home...
Thanks! I will be really happy if I can get it for $500 over. Actually that's the price where I started out. I left to go check out the Acura TL that nite and they say $1000. Today is the end of the month and I will maybe give them a call. What do you think?
On top of the car, because I want the spoiler with air diffuser(underneath), they want to charge $720 for the parts and labor. Is that fair?
vsix, Just got the deal over the phone for $600 over invoice. Will pick it up tonite when I get off work. I could have done a little bit better but happy with the price and the saleman have been consistant and nice trying to earn our sale.
The car I am getting is a Seregeti Sand(gold-silver) with Premium C, RWD AT Sedan. I will also be getting a rear spoiler and splashguards as additional options.
Thanks vsix, I have set a price and stood firm on it. It just works with a little patience and is the end of the month.
I will be glad to refer this salesman or dealership to anyone from the area.
Congraduation on your purchase, 007! I think your experience will help a lot of potential owners on setting a reasonable bargaining price. I picked up mine tonight, and I really like it. The backlights look much better at night
Anyway, even it was Tuesday, there were so many people in the dealers for some reasons. It seems more and more people can have a better deal for 05 now!
I'm looking to purchase the 2005 G35x AWD in the Detroit, MI area. Only one dealer nearby, the nearest two are over 100 miles away (of which one is out of state). I've been trying to negotiate via e-mail. The best offer so far is 3% off MSRP. The car is in such demand that I'm not even sure what I should be offering. I'm figuring out that the invoice should be about $33,735 (includes the $1000 dealer holdback I've heard about). Any suggestions as to a fair price to offer and realistic expectations would be appreciated. Does anyone have experience with the dealerships here in the Detroit area? The car I want: 2005 G35x AWD Premium C package Splash Guards Trunk Mat
Not sure about Detroit, but on east coast car is hot. Some are selling @ sticker, which is $36,700 w/ your package. Invoice is about $33,658, but that doesn't include any hold back. On a hot car like this dont even think about grabbing the hold back, thats the dealers. If you are looking for a deal, check out the 04's. Based on what the dealer is offering you on the 05'. it could save you about $5700. (Thats some serious cheddar,yo!)
I would say the best thing is to do is go in a dealership and testdrive the car. Let them know you are in a ready to buy position if the price is right. Offer them $500 over invoice and for sure they will say no and come back with a counter-offer. At this point, act like you really like the car but the price is to high. Get up and leave, but be sure to thank them for their time. If they stop you and lower the price, you can counter offer the new price. If you are happy with that price buy it otherwise need to leave right now. Don't let them wear you out which they are good at. Also tell them you are considering other vehicle such as the AWD MDX or TL. This two cars are in the price range and are selling well for not too much above invoice.
You just want to let them know you have other options. When you leave the dealership, atleast you have tested the water for the car you are interest in. Go to another dealership and do the same thing until you are happy with the deal. Don't tell them you have already been to 1 Infiniti dealer earlier and have failed.
You will never know what kind of deal you can get unless you try and of course do your hw. The end of the year will be an excellent time to buy and hopefully there will be incentives maybe even on the AWD models.
I did no negotiating. There are three dealers in this area (Northern Virginia) and all have an Internet sales department. I sent each the same email. I spec'ed out the car and said I would pay $32K in cash as the gross price. 2 dealers said no way and a 3rd said come on by :-).
I picked up an 05 G35 Coupe in Tampa about 2 weeks ago. It was the first one with 19 inch wheels that the dealer delivered for 05.
Diamond Graphite with Premium, AT, Aero, Sport and Splash Guards.
Got it for $1500 off MSRP. I started at $500 over invoice. They countered that the cars were just coming in and were scarce, and they could sell all of them for MSRP.
The purchasing experience was not as good as I expected when a Corporate "executive trainee" tried to push me into a finance deal that I refused. I prefer buying rather than leasing my cars. He told me that I could not put my full trade-in into the car, that no bank would accept the amount of equity I wanted to put in the car on a finance deal take back $10,000 from the $22,000 for my trade-in and that I should lease the car after taking back this amount and putting $12,000 in to the lease. I told him this was BS, and started to walk.
Another salesperson (local for the dealer) came up and worked out my terms- with much less interest involved than the first person. A bank took the deal.
I do not know if they played bad guy/good guy on me or what, but, this was an unpleasant experience to what should have been a good one when buying a neat car like the G35 Coupe. Apparently, they gave me $500 more for my car then they wholesaled it for, and the first guy was trying to make it back in the financing area?
BTW, the coupe was flawless at delivery and except for some minor rattles that seem gone now remains so.
Some years ago the F&I guy at a Toyota dealership tried to convince me I'd be better off financing with him at 13.9% APR than paying cash! Yes, most of the time the dealership makes money on the financing piece. Financing and insurance make up a sizable proportion of dealership profits.
I'm guessing you were at Infiniti of Tampa, rather than Lokey in CLW. Did they try any other tricks on you beside the financing?
Negotiating for an 05 is much harder than for an 04. I've too contacted like 6 dealers about the 05 and most of them do not want to negotiate from invoice. They really try hard in getting rid of the 04s. One dealer in the bay offer $5000 discount plus 1.9% financing last month on all 04 G35 in stock. The dealer seems really good be after looking gt the 05s, we have decided to get an 05 sedan AT RWD.
If you are interested in buying a new 05 Coupe or G35 AWD, you are going to have a much tougher time. The demands are really high here.
Elk Grove Infiniti, I have to give those guys two thumbs up for the salesguy and the finance manager. I have no trade-in so was much less a hassle here. What's surprising is they didn't ask me at all if I want any accessories or extended warranty. I just told them I want to finance the car through my credit union for 60 mo. They came back with the the rate and the numbers and I signed the paperworks. Best buying experience for me so far and really looking forward to deal with them again.
I believe the people at the dealer really try to see how much hw you have done and how much you understand the buying, selling, financing process for cars. So if they think you know it, they will most likely insult you less and go directly to the point.
Last week I bought a 04 G35 Sedan Auto w/ Prem. Package, Sports Suspension, Trunk Mat and Splash Guards with Diamond Graphite Exterior and Graphite Interior and 30% tint on all windows for $30,700 (about $1,000 under invoice). Also got a great rate of 2.9% for 60 months. Tried for a lower price but this was the last color/options combo in So CA. Love the car!
I'm interested in leasing the 2004 G35X, the All Wheel Drive.
My local dealer is offering what seems like a reasonable deal (there is this new Winter Engagement Event that is geared towards liquidating the 04's) , and i wanted to be assured that it really is.
Here are the details.
42 month lease with no money down except the motor vehicle fees.
the MSRP on the vehicle is 35890 which includes the premium package.
15k miles per year.
the payment offered is 389.99 per month
with a trade that is being appraised at $3,000(Plus the 6% tax i'm saving on the trade in value) i can go down to $299.99 per month.
please advise if this makes sense and whether i'm doing ok. i have no idea how to calculate lease deals.
Any purchase experiences on '04 G35s sedans in the Dallas or Ft.Worth areas? Even if not, other prices paid on '04 G35 sedans would be of interest. Also, what was best interest rate obtained?
Was at a dealer in Northern NJ with the following offer:
2004 G35X 4 Door Auto Leather Spoiler XM Radio MSRP 34270 Out the Door $30,000 even
Unfortunately, the car had the full size spare which ate up too much trunck space. Nice car! Seemed like a great deal! I will probably regret not buying it.
Just picked up our '04 G35X: Garnet Fire-beautiful in the sunlight,I can't wait to wax (Zymol) in the spring. Took them two weeks to find one! Willow-gonna be tough to keep clean, but looks great. Premium/full size spare wood trim(pull handles & shift knob) splash guards. $33,000.00 @4.19 APR. Pepe in White Plains NY. Probably could have done a little better elsewhere, but location of dealership is most convenient and salesman was a gentleman. I was also worried about sell 'em and forget about 'em dealerships far away from home. Well, out for a ride we go!
Interested in 2005 G35 coupe. Live in California and dealerships want to go MSRP citing that it is a car in demand and limited production. Anyone had better luck in getting a good deal? Anybody had experience dealing with Infinity of Thousand Oaks, California? Thanks.
I think it's because I'm going for 60-month term. AAA offered me 4.35 and US alliance offered 4.9. Infiniti originally offered 4.9, but in order to keep it in-house, business mgr. lowered to 4.1 when I mentioned AAA's rate. Saves me some over the years, anyway.
I also went for the 60 month but got 2.9% with Infiniti finance.
Just got back from a 4.5 hr negotiation/wait but finally ended up in my G35 Coupe.
Here is what I got: 2004 G35 coupe - Exterior - Diamond Graphite Interior - Graphite Premium Package Performance Tire & Wheel Package Aero Package with Spoiler Aerodynamic Body Kit
For a total of $33500 (not including TTL) - which is the invoice on this car. But was $1500 more than what I had in mind - just wanted the premium package but had to get the Aero and Tire package as it was the only car that was close to the color I wanted.
I also added Dent coverage and GAP coverage just to be safe. Walk out price was $37,021.00. BTW this was at North Houston Infiniti.

I've received a few offers on '04 Sedan 6MTs. One of the offers is interesting in that the car involved has over 400 miles on it. Does anyone have an opinion, professional or otherwise, as to how much of a discount this mileage should be worth? Thanks.
I got a quote from Grubbs for a '04 G35 sedan w/ premium package, invoice at $31369, back in October for $30369. You should be able to get one for at least $1500 below invoice now. Good luck.

Actually the dealers have an additional incentive of $1,000 from what i was told starting December 1, so they should have that as a negotiating tool....I believe the deal i was offered on a $36,320 vehicle was closer to $2,500 under invoice.
George..
As for the 400 miles, i don't think its that much of an issue, unless it bothers you....Probably being a demo car, i would expect them to give you at least an extra $1,000 off a car that wouldnt have those miles on it....But if the car is otherwise in good shape, the 400 are no big deal.

Did you comparison shop with Sewell Infiniti in Dallas? We live closer to Grubbs, but my wife's job is closer to Sewell. We are interested in the G35, too.
Brodway -- Thanks for your comments. The mileage isn't a deal breaker for me, but I am trying to figure how much I should shoot for on that. I was figuring on about $500.
The offers I've received aren't directly comparable. The car with the miles has nav, which I am kind of interested in, and is out of town, while another offer has no nav, but is local.
Both offers are about $1000 under invoice. Where are you and what did you do to get an offer that is $2500 under invoice? That sounds like a really good deal. Can you give the details, or have they already been posted?
[My original note appeared twice, many hours apart. I have no idea why. It certainly wasn't anything I did intentionally.]
I did shop around at Sewell and Crest. Sewell was quoting only $400 below invoice and Crest was above invoice. You should still get a quote from each dealership. Keep me posted.
We bought my wife a 2005 G35x from a Denver dealer on Thursday, through the VPP program. Here are the details, including the requisite number of weird things car dealers love to put customers through:
Dealer Invoice/35331.39 VPP discount/-582.97 Dealer options/171.61/Locking lug nuts and wax job Delivery fee/868.71 Destination/590.00 Marketing Assessment/0.00 Incentives/0.00 VPP Price/36378.75 Clear bra/395.00 Dealer handling/359.00/Pure profit, even according to the sales person Total +TT/37132.75
Not counting the bra, it worked out to about $815 over invoice, which I figure you could negotiate yourself without much difficulty. We traded a 2002 Honda Accord coupe and they gave us $14350 for it, essentially matching the best offer we had from a private party, though that thing was really hard to sell. We paid cash for the rest. They didn't hesitate, at all, to sell the car for VPP, though they really didn't honor that, once you count all the crap they charge.
The experience was fine, and the deal pretty average, though I was out of my seat headed for the door over the silly $359 "handling" nonsense, but my wife talked me out of it. (Her car, remember. :-)) I don't understand why car people behave the way they do. You ask a question that virtually every customer must ask, and the obviously experienced sales person calls someone to "find the answer". What's the point of that little charade?
A few questions for you who've done this before:
1) Does NNA allow dealers to add their raw naked profit charges on top of VPP? If so, what's the point of VPP? You could do as well just subtracting whatever figure they post on their little signs from whatever you offer and negotiate the price yourself.
2) Are dealers really required to run a credit check even when you're paying cash? This one claimed it was because of the Patriot Act, which I found laughable, but I suppose it could be true. Can anyone comment, and state the section of the act that requires it?
While the experience was nothing you couldn't get from any dealer, the car is really cool! I don't drive luxury cars - the nicest car I ever bought myself was an '86 Mazda 626GT - so I'm really impressed with this thing.

I will be more than happy to give those info out through emails in a safe way of course.

i got a better offer than that today in Northern NJ...close tor 5.5 k off MSRP...
sticker 36,320...slightly under 31,000
i basically have the deal done...trying to locate the color....email me privately and i will share the source.
just to share, Infiniti is offering 1.9% on a 36 month finance and 2.9% on longer deals for the 2004's...not sure why you are paying over 4%

I also added Dent coverage and GAP coverage just to be safe. Walk out price was $37,021.00. BTW this was at North Houston Infiniti.
Just got back from a 4.5 hr negotiation/wait but finally ended up in my G35 Coupe.
Here is what I got:
2004 G35 coupe -
Exterior - Diamond Graphite
Interior - Graphite
Premium Package
Performance Tire & Wheel Package
Aero Package with Spoiler
Aerodynamic Body Kit

George..
As for the 400 miles, i don't think its that much of an issue, unless it bothers you....Probably being a demo car, i would expect them to give you at least an extra $1,000 off a car that wouldnt have those miles on it....But if the car is otherwise in good shape, the 400 are no big deal.
Sewell was quoting only $400 below invoice and Crest was above invoice. You should still get a quote from each dealership. Keep me posted.
