I just got an e-quote from them yesterday too on a Tech (same #) ... they said "At this point we pretty much have all the colors available" Funny. Thanks for the warning.
Thanks.
skipped the saleperson
You should ask them to include in order to compare price Apple to apple among dealers. It will be too good to be true if the prices you got included both fees.
anyways, after all that, i am pretty satisfied with the deal, all things considered... the central region really is selling these cars well.. i could tell this by having such a hard time getting my color choice, and the fact that dealers really only had 4-5 vehicles in stock.....
but my question for everyone is this... i used a lease calculator to plug in the number that the dealer gave me (http://www.leaseguide.com/calc.htm) and it is coming out cheaper than his calculations by about 20-30 dollars... i don't know where the extra money is coming from as we are both using the same numbers for money factor, residual, and cap cost... are there some fees that are calculated into the lease that is not accounted for using this calculator?? he said something weird about there being a 500 dollar fee that covers gap insurance that is in every honda financial lease... but the cap cost is still the same at 41,750... anyways, just hoping that this makes sense to someone and they can tell me what's up...
thanks in advance...
"We are not able to sell you a 2009 Acura MDX Sport Package for that price, but we are able to sell one to you for $40,999 + tax & license fees."
Could this be it or should maybe counter with another offer?
GAP insurance is included on all Honda Finance leases... no extra charges..

I tried to get a better price, but they seemed pretty adamant that they cannot go any lower, as they have limited supply, and are positive that the remaining vehicles will be sold in no time.
Any suggestions on the pricing above? Is this really the best I can do, or can I do better by going elsewhere, or speaking to a manager at DCH?
Thanks in advance!
If you don't mind posting it, what price did you end up paying?
-- Sales price: Invoice plus destination ($43090) minus Incentive ($2000) for a total of $41090, then add accessories- roof rails, cargo mat, all weather mats- and fees/document/title/tags ($954) for a final total of $42044. Tax is separate. We used the 3.9% financing, and I may get an extended warranty from Bernardi Acura (best prices online).
-- Based on this board, the range recently for a Tech/Ent (without fees and accessories) has been at best $39500 or so to around $42500. I was happy with $41090 as a comparison. Last fall, with $4 gas and a $3500 incentive, the Tech/Ent could be had below $39000.
-- I think the disparity in prices has everything to do with supply, demand, and competition by region. I'm in the Great Lakes area- lots of snow- and looked across 4 cities. No one would come close to the invoice minus incentive deal I got, and it has to be because inventory is low, the car is popular here, and there aren't that many dealers around.
-- I think the folks who got better deals recently benefitted from cities with higher inventory or less demand or more competition. Of course, I'm sure they were good negotiators also!
-- For what it is worth, for folks using this board to help guide your negotiating, I think that using the figures posted to guide your offer makes sense, and shopping across dealers and cities makes sense, but if you find that you can't get a Tech/Ent for $39500 in your region- don't feel bad. If you like the car and got a good deal in your region (and you'll know it because other dealers won't match it) then buy it, drive it, and enjoy it. You just can't compare a deal someone got with a desperate dealer in Boston to a dealer with low inventory and high demand in Pittsburgh. No point feeling bad over a few hundred bucks.
Anyways, happy shopping.
i really need advice from people on this board... i had negotiated a adjusted cap cost of 41,750 for tech/ent with all-weather mats and trunk tray... but when he was telling me the monthly, it just wasnt working out on the lease calculator... when i asked the dealer to fax me the contract before i signed it, low and behold there is an adjusted cap cost value of 41,995... so when i called back he was like, this is a state tax which must be paid by everyone, yadah yadah... i told him that i don't mind paying legitimate taxes, which i am paying upon delivery of the vehicle before drive-off, but he totally sneaked this one in... and what's worse, he rolled it into the lease payment and thus made it like $7 more... i know that at this point it may seem like nothing when buying a 40k plus car, but its a matter of principal and i couldnt have been more clear to him that i wanted a 41750 adjusted cap cost... it jsut pissed me off when it just threw everything off...
so i told him to give me back my down payment that i made to hold the vehicle and he said that he would have to wait till the morning when his sales manager comes back in... so i am gonna wait it out and call his bluff, and hope that they agree to my terms as i really like the car and think that its a good price... but i don't want to have a bad taste in my mouth when paying so much for a car, especially in this economy....
so what input does everyone have, sawllow my pride and go for it (if he doesn't agree to my terms in the morning) or just stay put and wait for the next best thing (whenever that comes along)?????????
In my experience, the acquisition fee is always added to the negotiated price as an extra- no getting around it. I don't think dealers view it as a normal DMV fee.
Also in my experience, the Leaseguide Calculator is a great tool, but is often a few bucks off what the dealer comes up with.
Having said all that, if the dealer agreed to $41,750 inclusive of all fees, and he included a $245 dollar fee at the end, you have every right for an explanation. In some cases, they do that with a "document fee". That happened on my deal. I researched the doc fee in my state, and basically the state law allows it, doesn't require it, and all dealers charge it. I decided that it was nonsense and just profit... but I also decided to pay it and move on. Even with the $250, it was the best deal I was getting in the region by a long shot- and we like the car.
So, if I were you, I'd get the explanation, I'd tell them how displeased you are and you want it removed. If they refuse, it comes down to how much you like the car. I let the $250 doc fee slide because this was the car we wanted and I was still getting a good deal, but you'll have to decide what is best for you. If the principle of it bothers you too much, definitely walk. But if you like the car enough and will later regret not getting it for the cost of a Starbucks and bagel each month, go get it.
Just my 2 cents. Good luck.
thanks for the advice, and the starbucks analogy... i think that it just hits the point home that i will need to budget other, non-sensical costs in my monthly budget... i think that i will go for it... thanks
p.s. - just hope that the car is still there in the morning... dealer threatened to sell it..
IMO, no, not a good deal. Why buy a used 08 when the same 09 can be purchased for 4k more (including destination, before TTL)?
Also, considering this is the time when Acura starts ramping up the incentives on the MDX, equally poor decision. You could get a base 2008 MDX for 32k or a MDX w/Tech pkg for 35.5k last year in sept-november.
I'm currently shopping for a new 2009 MDX w/Tech, and the best price I have now with little negotiation yet is 38.6k.
Of course, as long as you're happy with your purchase, who cares?
I'd have to check, but last year they kept them through July before they started increasing the incentive amount until it peaked at 4k, and at that point there were still plenty of MDX inventory to be found.
Economy much worse this year than it was this time last year.

We visited the dealer in Montclair and had an amazing experience. The sales guy Paul Pudgets is very friendly down to earth and most of all reasonable. We got the MDX for an out the door price of 46K ( tech / Ent, roof rack, cross bars and chome side rails!!! ) HE even threw in the all weather mats!
On top of this they gave us the blue book value for the camry of 3K that counted towards our final price. If you are a costco member you save additional money, I believe 400. He did give us 2K dealer incentive reduction on price.
He spent 2 hours after closing making sure they put the chome bars on so we could take the car home that night and went over all car functions in detail. The manager Ric Coyle is also excelllent. It is his job to explain all the warranty packages but in no way does he pressure you. We ended up getting the remote start and the tire protection for a combo deal.
All in all the experience was a 180 from east brunswick and we highly recommend going there to purchase your acura.
I got quotes from nearly all of the Chicago area Internet salespeople. After Arlington, Libertyville had the next-best price, but their Internet salesperson was unbelievably frustrating to deal with - quoted me a price of $38,968, then said she "got in trouble" with her manager for quoting a price lower than she should have and that the offer was only good for 72 hours, then never called again after telling me that she was checking to see what they had in stock and would call me back. I had heard good things about Libertyville on this forum, but she was a mess.
Most of the other quotes I got were in the $39,200 to $39,600 range (incl. destination). For what it's worth, it seemed clear to me that inventories are definitely very low. I didn't feel like I left any money on the table buying at $38,950.
He did not try to sell me a whole laundry list of things. Highly recommend their dealership.
McGrath Acura was the worst experience. Their salesman was very unprofessional. Would never go near them ever!! He was pressuring me to buy at his best price which was lousy. He kept feeding horror stories about bad dealer exerinces. He made really parnoid for a while there.
This forum helped a lot in deciding my target price. I expected it to be $500 less than what i paid but i can't get that from any dealer and i am not a very goos bargainer too. giv e me your thoughts on this deal.
Which dealer did you buy from? Did you get quotes from other dealers? Did you get any accessories included?
Enjoy your drive!!
I actually test drove the car first at McGrath and had a pretty decent experience with them. They had no Techs in stock, though, and so couldn't come close on price (invoice - or about $39.6k - was their best offer). Sales guy was really honest about what they could do, though, and didn't waste anyone's time. Always interesting how much the experience can vary from person to person, even at the same dealership.
Naperville was probably the biggest joke for me. Quoted $41,900 incl. destination, or almost $3k above what I eventually paid. One would think the Internet guys follow these forums and know what people who request online quotes are realistically going to pay.
just got my tech/ent puppy for 41,750 (with free protection package) + TTL from nashville,tn... from all the research that i did, this was the absolute best deal that i could pull in the mid-south... not as cheap as some in the north east (40,200 was the cheapest that i heard) but not bad, all in all...
now here is my (slight) dilemma... i really want to lease-to-buy this vehicle... i fought tooth and nail to get the cap cost down... but i realized during lease signing that the buy out price is based on msrp, not adjusted cap cost... due to religious restrictions on doing transactions with money borrowing/interest, i couldnt do the 3.9% finance, which would have turned out very sweet for me... but i wanted to know, are the buy out options in the end negotialbe?? and i am assuming that in case it isn't and i buy out with the end of term price, which is $21,850 (46%) i suppose that it will come out about $2750 more than if i were to have purchased it right now instead of leasing?? are my calculations correct - i took 46% of the $6000 that i negotiated down....
Negotiating the residual at lease end? That will depend entirely on the market for the vehicle at the time. Some banks won't negotiate at all.. Others will negotiate if the value of the vehicle is far less than the buyout amount. There is no way to know in advance. However, residual percentages have been adjusted down, compared to the last few years, and may more accurately reflect actual market value.
If you can't borrow money, how will you pay the $22K for the car, three years from now? (not to be nosy...

Does anyone know whether or not the $2000 market support for MDX in May is still available in June? I spoke with a CT dealership this morning, and according to him, the $2000 market support is gone now. Anyone has the information and can confirm whether this is trure or not? Thanks.
Anyone in the New York tri-state area been able to get the $39,200 including destination pricing that several on this forum in CA and FL have posted? I am in NJ and seem to be hitting a brick wall at $40,600.
If so, appreciate if you could steer me to the dealer.
Thanks.
This is why I usually buy used but the used ones aren't much cheaper than a good deal on new now a days. thanks for info!!
Elizabeth
Good luck.
