Are you saying your price on the 2010 tech is 41,951 less your trade @28,500 for a total OTD @ 13,451? If not, would you detail?
Thanks
1.9% and 0.9% is still valid up to Feb 28 2011 so that keeps me going again however looked at Lexus and no one sell Lexus base model and they all want $5,000 more than invoice .. are you crazy in this economy? How many people buying Lexus? and if they do after 2010 fiasco .. why bother ? So I am back in Acura camp and trying to find a honest (?) salesman who could keep his word for the price he quoted. I want costco experience I buy, I pay and I get out .. (less than 5 min all transaction) .. let me keep dreaming when you buying a MDX!
Now, I am not sure whether I should go for MDX or RDX. I will have a kid may be in 1 year so, not sure whether I need 7 seater or not. RDX has all the luxury options (moonroof, rearview mirror, bluetooth, heated seats) in their standard price while for MDX I have to pay extra for some. At the same time RDX is not as comfy ride as MDX, it's little firm. So, confused between two.
We haven't negotiated a final price on either option, but imagine there will be about a 9K difference between the choices. Wondering which way you would go? Would you be too wary of service loaners to consider the 2011 or has the deal been sweetened sufficiently? How do these prices seem to those of you who have negotiated good deals for yourselves?
I purchased a new 2011 MDX (Metallic Grigio with Toupe) with Tech/Ent packages for a price of $44,000(including destination charge). I also went pre-approved by Acura Financial Corporation on their website for about $54,000 with no downpayment, so I also took 36 month loan with 0.9% APR.
I purchase around $2300 worth of accessories for which I bargained a 15% discount.
Seems like a good purchase for me! What is your take on it ?
Thanks,
Prasad
Personally, I'm not crazy about the idea of plunking down almost $500 today & hoping that I'll get some of it back at an unknown future date. If you're worried that you won't have enough money to pay for damage to your wheels & tires (if & when that happens), then you should put that $495 in the bank so that you'll have it when you need it.
Is this true or just a line? Anyone know of a dealer in CA that will sell out of state?
I email two dealerships in CA. Glendale won't sell out of state. The other will, but they guy told me his best price was $700 *over* invoice.
I dealership sent me mail and offered to sell me the car for $46,200 which is MSRP.
These were all fleet/internet sales.
I'd love to find the car for $42K which is a price others have achieved. I'm willing to buy in Oregon, Nevada, or California.
If anyone has a contact that isn't slimy, could they mind sending me email? Thanks!
If you end up buying for that price, would you mind checking to see if the dealer will sell out of state. Some do, some don't.
So far Glendale of CA won't sell out of state. Center will, but the fleet guy is acting like a typical salesman and playing price games - not what I expected based on the positive reviews of Center Acura on this site.
The best price I could negotiate in Bellevue, WA (just outside Seattle) was $44,686. The guy said this was "invoice" but he had added $200 in advertising and $200 for prep. So really, it was $1400 over invoice. I told him I'd give him $44,286, but he let me walk. He didn't call me back so I assume he was serious.
With little effort, a dealer in LA has offered me the same car for invoice - $43,286 though not without lots of drama and sighing that he can't believe he is doing this. What's strange is this is Center Acura who was handing out $41,999 on this same car at the end of December.
Maybe it really does pay to wait until the end of the month or quarter or year.
New lease - 2011 MDX Tech, $700/mo for 36 mos / 10K miles, in Chicago with APR = 4.03%. $1200 in options included. Total financed value $47000.
I am confused. I asked for a "no money down" scenario, but they asked for a $1000 initial payment which they claimed to be the first months pymt + taxes/title/etc. It was charged as and itemized as a "down payment", however, which I did not authorize. On my last lease, I only paid the first months payment and nothing more, and it was not categorized as a "down payment."
Thanks for your help in advance. I have not taken delivery yet.
Washington State charges a Use Tax on a vehicle that was purchased out of state and registered in state. It turns out my rate would be 9.8% as compared to LA's sales tax of 9.75%. This would be ok as I'd be able to register without paying any additional sales tax.
I'll call the DMV tomorrow, but I wondered if anyone has experience with this?
Please let us know how it works out buying out of state. I have a trip to Vegas in early March and hope to drive back in a new MDX.
Better make sure about your local DMV.. Before I'd risk $4000, I'd take a trip down to the office and have them show me the forms that allow a credit for the CA sales tax.

IMO the deal was decent especially for this area. Other dealers wouldn't go below $45,200 and a dealer in Portland gave me a sob story about how they couldn't sell below MSRP because MDXs were so hard to find.
My deal: 2011 MDX White/Taupe $44,686 + $150 doc fee + tax and licensing. I added $2800 in accessories and received no discount for those.
I said *no* to the 3M rock chip prevention ($1195), the Cilijet paint and interior treatment ($1450) and the extended warranty ($2259).
I could have done better in CA but got tired of dealing with Center Acura in LA. The fleet guys were highly recommended. I don't know why. The guy I was dealing with was hard to communicate with. He agreed to a deal below invoice (I have the emails) and then tacked on the destination charge after I pressed him to send me the line item detail in email. The total was $43060 which is below invoice, but not the $42200 deal others have received. He then told me there was no way he could sell that far below invoice on a MDX w/tech though he would do it for one with entertainment. He also wouldn't send me a picture of the car (said he didn't know how). There were too many red flags. I got a bad feeling about the entire transaction and just said forget it. I could see flying to LA and having the deal change after I arrived. You have to have a lot of trust to fly 1000 miles to close a deal.
In the end, I decided saving $1600 wasn't worth it and decided that I'd swap that for peace of mind of buying from a dealer that was 3 miles from my house. The local dealer also provides 10% off all service, free first oil change, free full detail at 45,000 miles, and free service loaner for life. Small, but nice.
Other learnings -
California does require tax collection if you take delivery in the state. To avoid that you have to have the car delivered out of state.
If you buy the car in LA, you pay 9.75% sales tax. In my county in WA it's 9.8%. I confirmed that you can apply what you paid toward Washingon's tax. I would have owned .05% when I licensed the car up here. To confirm I called the department of revenue and the local licensing department.
It appears that if you buy a car in California and are not a resident you are not covered by the California lemon law. If you are a Washington resident, but buy elsewhere, you are not covered by the Washington lemon law.
Given your experience, I think you made the right choice to get the vehicle, locally. Good luck with it!
