    I have a 08 MDX sport/tech/ent with 65k mi for trade.
Are you saying your price on the 2010 tech is 41,951 less your trade @28,500 for a total OTD @ 13,451? If not, would you detail?
    Thanks

I was getting quote during the holiday seasons for 2011 base model in norpth NJ. I got $39000 including destination from Springfield. I sent couple of email to ask for the OTD price and did not get answer. I called the guy in the email and asked if the deal still held before new year if I came in on Jan 3rd and the answer was yes. I drove about 45mins to the dealer, waited about 15mins at the front door, then one sales person came to me and told me that things changed, they couldn't sell MDX at that price. What a waste of time! So be aware, car buying definitely not a thing that I enjoy...

FYI, I bought my New 2008 MDX with Tech in Dec 2007 for 41500 including all (no sales tax in OR). Also I traded this on Apr 30, 2010 for 35K in Chicago.

Buddy I had the same experience with Springfield Acura. We discussed price over the holidays went on Jan 3rd and salesman said prices are changed since its a new year .. not sure they want to sell the MDX to you ... they bid low try to get you in showroom and ask you to pay higher ... some people pay and some people walk out .. i walked out ... as per their email their prices are valid upto 5 days .. they don't keep their word.
  • tofanitofani Member Posts: 8
IF I buy MDX this will be my first luxury purchase .. I bought Civic, Accord and Odyssey so love Honda Quality and craftsmanship however buying Acura nothing but removing a root canal. Never had any issue buying Honda from Joyce Honda NJ.. Great people and easy dealings however Acura salesmen are just 180 degree. As per me they are liars, deceivers and in some case downright racist.
1.9% and 0.9% is still valid up to Feb 28 2011 so that keeps me going again however looked at Lexus and no one sell Lexus base model and they all want $5,000 more than invoice .. are you crazy in this economy? How many people buying Lexus? and if they do after 2010 fiasco .. why bother ? So I am back in Acura camp and trying to find a honest (?) salesman who could keep his word for the price he quoted. I want costco experience I buy, I pay and I get out .. (less than 5 min all transaction) .. let me keep dreaming when you buying a MDX!

Same here. I was confused between RX 350, MDX or RDX. Now I ruled out RX 350 with the only reason that every dealer wants $4000+ options installed. I asked base model and they said, it's 4 month wait. What ? 3 out of 4 dealers didn't even reply to my internet quote request. They said, come to the dealership and we will give you the best price. When I insisted online that give me the internet price they didn't even bother to reply. I expected that since RX350 is doing this bad, they will be better customer oriented than before. But, I am wrong.

Now, I am not sure whether I should go for MDX or RDX. I will have a kid may be in 1 year so, not sure whether I need 7 seater or not. RDX has all the luxury options (moonroof, rearview mirror, bluetooth, heated seats) in their standard price while for MDX I have to pay extra for some. At the same time RDX is not as comfy ride as MDX, it's little firm. So, confused between two.
  • tofanitofani Member Posts: 8
I would go with MDX .. I bet Lexus/Toyota paying all those glitzy showroom to keep the lights on .. I wonder who buys Lexus? Which is overpriced and dealers insist getting thousands of dollar over the invoice .. my take is they don't want to sell car to you ... its like welfare .. if its keep coming .. why bother for work?
  • stonescotchstonescotch Member Posts: 10
May I ask why you think you would for MDX over RDX (other than you have to have 7 seater) ?
  • tofanitofani Member Posts: 8
As per consumer reports RX 450H beats MDX by I guess two to three points so definitely 450h must be better than MDX however Acura gives you more car for the money you put it in .. i would do compare online and see the differences . for me since I am honda fan my natural progression is Acura and also wanted to buy SUV since I was 25 but never had a money to buy one... And as you also mentioned lexus over price is major nixe for me.

Thanks for your suggestion. I asked between MDX and RDX (not RX). But looks like small SUV RDX is not in your list at all. Glad you can now buy your dream SUV. Same here. Goodluck...

Went to the dealer to see a 2008 MDX Tech with about 55K miles on it listed at $29,900. Wasn't thrilled about how many miles are on it, but all their pre-owned stock had about that much. The sales agent offered us a 2011 Base, service loaner, with 5K miles. They are selling it as a CPO for about $37,500. The car looks great, had its service, and they added a CPO warranty on top of the factory warranty. I know that service loaners can be iffy propositions, but it seems like a good deal. (The dealer only has Acuras, so everyone coming in for service would already be an Acura owner, if that makes a difference.)

We haven't negotiated a final price on either option, but imagine there will be about a 9K difference between the choices. Wondering which way you would go? Would you be too wary of service loaners to consider the 2011 or has the deal been sweetened sufficiently? How do these prices seem to those of you who have negotiated good deals for yourselves?

Picking up our new 2011 MDX Tech on Monday and was wondering what people thought's where on Wheel and Tire Insurance. The cost is $495 it does cover curbs and My wife who I love dearly always finds them. Thank you for your thought's

Bought Silver/Ebony MDX with Tech for $44.5k +$150 doc fees (before ttl) on Jan 2nd. Happy with dealership in Seattle, least "salesy" of the bunch experience but still able to negotiate a bit on price.

    Just a price information!
I purchased a new 2011 MDX (Metallic Grigio with Toupe) with Tech/Ent packages for a price of $44,000(including destination charge). I also went pre-approved by Acura Financial Corporation on their website for about $54,000 with no downpayment, so I also took 36 month loan with 0.9% APR.

I purchase around $2300 worth of accessories for which I bargained a 15% discount.

Seems like a good purchase for me! What is your take on it ?

    Thanks,

Personally, I'm not crazy about the idea of plunking down almost $500 today & hoping that I'll get some of it back at an unknown future date. If you're worried that you won't have enough money to pay for damage to your wheels & tires (if & when that happens), then you should put that $495 in the bank so that you'll have it when you need it.
  • matth2matth2 Member Posts: 12
At just over $1000, dealers are still making money. You could have done better on the accessories.
  • matth2matth2 Member Posts: 12
I agree with jimbres. Dealers will just make the wheels look better cosmetically and patch tires. You won't get brand new wheels, unless you really destroy them. Probably by then, your car insurance will kick in. Save the money for some nice dinners with your spouse.

I also just purchased 2008 Base. was in same delima. I went with 2008 base for various reason as it has only 29.5 k miles, was in great shape, one owner, CPO, done all services at same dealer where we bought, dealer did 30 K mile service on it, it has dual headrest DVD player installed (orininal Install price $1798), gave us copy of all the services done and last gave 7 years 100 K miles warranty from orinial first time new car sale date which left us 4 years and 70 k miles warranty to use. Price was 30.3 k + title and tax.

Prasad- That is like $1k below Invoice. Who is the dealer? I am looking to buy in NJ.
  • c_williamsc_williams Member Posts: 28
So far, the dealers in Washington state haven't been flexible on price. Their 'special non-negotiated' rate is $2K to $2.5K over invoice. I sent an email to a high volume California dealer's fleet guy and he said they couldn't sell out of state as this was a rule from Acura. He said if a dealer sells out of state they are breaking the rule.

Is this true or just a line? Anyone know of a dealer in CA that will sell out of state?
  • 49ers49ers Member Posts: 12
not in MD; not sure about CA

I'm trying to find a 2011 MDX w/Tech Grigio/Taupe. I'm ready to buy today if I can find it for the price. I'm in the Seattle area and can't get even close to a reasonable deal from Bellevue or Lynnwood. They both are sticking to Microsoft/Costco pricing at $2000 *over* invoice. The invoice already includes a destination charge. They have repeatedly told me this is a really, good deal. One guy even tried to show me how they were only making $1250. BS.

I email two dealerships in CA. Glendale won't sell out of state. The other will, but they guy told me his best price was $700 *over* invoice.

I dealership sent me mail and offered to sell me the car for $46,200 which is MSRP.

    These were all fleet/internet sales.

I'd love to find the car for $42K which is a price others have achieved. I'm willing to buy in Oregon, Nevada, or California.

If anyone has a contact that isn't slimy, could they mind sending me email? Thanks!

that's a good price i think. I bought a 2011 MDX tech package (black ext with black interior) on Dec 30th in NJ for $42150 (before tax) with all season mats included in the deal. I got the wheel locks ($90) and roof rails ($440) installed by the dealer. Total out the door price including tax, title and registration was about $46300
  • metheniacmetheniac Member Posts: 1
those 2 numbers do not include state tax correct? I need to add about 3K for taxes to that if I am correct.
  • reverorevero Member Posts: 3
I am looking for a 2011 MDX with advance package and have received a quote for $48,300. Does this seem like a good price? The dealer is in southern CA. Also, trying to decide between grigio/taupe or grigio/ebony. Any input would be appreciated.
  • matth2matth2 Member Posts: 12
Not bad, but see about getting some accessories for a little more $. Common are all weather mats and trifold cover. If you got these items at the price you were quoted, it be a good deal.
  • c_williamsc_williams Member Posts: 28
Dealer invoice is $48,681 (includes destination). You might be able to do better but it'd be fair - especially for Grigio/Taupe - that seems to be a hot hard to find color.

If you end up buying for that price, would you mind checking to see if the dealer will sell out of state. Some do, some don't.

So far Glendale of CA won't sell out of state. Center will, but the fleet guy is acting like a typical salesman and playing price games - not what I expected based on the positive reviews of Center Acura on this site.

I am looking to buy a 2011 MDX with Tech package in PA. What price should I be looking for..right now I am at 44,600 which seems high based on the posts that I have read. Any help would be appreciated.

    :)
  • coolkevcoolkev Member Posts: 3
Look to make a deal in the 42k range. As I mentioned in my post, I got it for 42150 about 2 weeks back. There were several dealers in NJ willing to sell at that price.
  • snoopdogg1snoopdogg1 Member Posts: 2
I got a 2011 MDX w/Tech & Entertainment last month for the same price ($44,600). I thought it was a decent deal. I live in NC, and almost went to DC dealers Radley or Pohanka, which had lower prices. I would have saved several hundred, but would have been more of a hassle. You may want to check those dealerships in northern VA. Good luck!

I just purchased an MDW w/Tech package yesterday in NJ, for $43,500. Got a good deal on my trade as well so I am happy with my deal. I did get 4 internet quotes before I finalized my face to face deal with my local dealer. So far I love the vehicle!
  • c_williamsc_williams Member Posts: 28
I thought I'd give people and update on my search for an 2011 MDX w/Tech.

The best price I could negotiate in Bellevue, WA (just outside Seattle) was $44,686. The guy said this was "invoice" but he had added $200 in advertising and $200 for prep. So really, it was $1400 over invoice. I told him I'd give him $44,286, but he let me walk. He didn't call me back so I assume he was serious.

With little effort, a dealer in LA has offered me the same car for invoice - $43,286 though not without lots of drama and sighing that he can't believe he is doing this. What's strange is this is Center Acura who was handing out $41,999 on this same car at the end of December.

Maybe it really does pay to wait until the end of the month or quarter or year.
  • tom298tom298 Member Posts: 14
Paid 43,786 for 2011 MDX tech on Sept 30, 2010. $500 over invoice--you would think price would be less now since first 2011s are now 4 months old--Lindsay Acura, Columbus Ohio--

Found a 2011 Base with 5,500 miles being sold as a certified pre-owned vehicle. It's the color I want and has a warranty that extends beyond the factory new-car warranty. Negotiated the price to $37,100. Thoughts?
  • c_williamsc_williams Member Posts: 28
If you worked a deal you could get a brand new one for $2K more. I'd rather have a new one.
  • pparekhncpparekhnc Member Posts: 3
Trade in - 2008 MDX base pkg lease, 12K miles/yr, 1 month left on lease, only 18K miles on the clock (50% of allotted mileage). Excellent condition. Buy out was for $25500 to transition into new lease below.

New lease - 2011 MDX Tech, $700/mo for 36 mos / 10K miles, in Chicago with APR = 4.03%. $1200 in options included. Total financed value $47000.

I am confused. I asked for a "no money down" scenario, but they asked for a $1000 initial payment which they claimed to be the first months pymt + taxes/title/etc. It was charged as and itemized as a "down payment", however, which I did not authorize. On my last lease, I only paid the first months payment and nothing more, and it was not categorized as a "down payment."

Thanks for your help in advance. I have not taken delivery yet.

The California dealer is telling me I have to pay CA sales tax if I want to drive the car off the lot. I looked this up and it appears he is telling the truth. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Washington State charges a Use Tax on a vehicle that was purchased out of state and registered in state. It turns out my rate would be 9.8% as compared to LA's sales tax of 9.75%. This would be ok as I'd be able to register without paying any additional sales tax.

I'll call the DMV tomorrow, but I wondered if anyone has experience with this?
  • jeb14jeb14 Member Posts: 1
From what I read you would owe the .05% difference when you register in Washington but the DMV call is a great plan. I had the very same experience with Bellevue Accura. Same exact price and they wouldn't budge nor did they call me back. This was supposedly the "Costco" price but its really what they would try to get out of anyone. I guess they must get only so many cars and are able to sell them all at higher prices.

Please let us know how it works out buying out of state. I have a trip to Vegas in early March and hope to drive back in a new MDX.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,279
That is my understanding.... you can't take delivery in CA, without the dealer collecting sales tax..

Better make sure about your local DMV.. Before I'd risk $4000, I'd take a trip down to the office and have them show me the forms that allow a credit for the CA sales tax.

Initially with Springfield Acura but they didn't have the color combination in stock. They said I would have to wait 10 days for the new stock to arrive. I called DCH and they had it in stock and were willing to price match and so bought it from them. This was the year end and all dealers were desperate to sell to make their year end numbers.

Let me know if this is a good deal for a base MDX in NJ

    $40653-
    $24648- Residual

    $595/month
    $1300-down

    Thanks

Oh... it is also 15,000 miles/year
  • c_williamsc_williams Member Posts: 28
I bought the car tonight locally at Acura of Bellevue (WA). I paid more, but it was way, way simpler. The salesman was a pleasure to work with from the test drive through the deal.

IMO the deal was decent especially for this area. Other dealers wouldn't go below $45,200 and a dealer in Portland gave me a sob story about how they couldn't sell below MSRP because MDXs were so hard to find.

My deal: 2011 MDX White/Taupe $44,686 + $150 doc fee + tax and licensing. I added $2800 in accessories and received no discount for those.

I said *no* to the 3M rock chip prevention ($1195), the Cilijet paint and interior treatment ($1450) and the extended warranty ($2259).

I could have done better in CA but got tired of dealing with Center Acura in LA. The fleet guys were highly recommended. I don't know why. The guy I was dealing with was hard to communicate with. He agreed to a deal below invoice (I have the emails) and then tacked on the destination charge after I pressed him to send me the line item detail in email. The total was $43060 which is below invoice, but not the $42200 deal others have received. He then told me there was no way he could sell that far below invoice on a MDX w/tech though he would do it for one with entertainment. He also wouldn't send me a picture of the car (said he didn't know how). There were too many red flags. I got a bad feeling about the entire transaction and just said forget it. I could see flying to LA and having the deal change after I arrived. You have to have a lot of trust to fly 1000 miles to close a deal.

In the end, I decided saving $1600 wasn't worth it and decided that I'd swap that for peace of mind of buying from a dealer that was 3 miles from my house. The local dealer also provides 10% off all service, free first oil change, free full detail at 45,000 miles, and free service loaner for life. Small, but nice.

    Other learnings -

California does require tax collection if you take delivery in the state. To avoid that you have to have the car delivered out of state.

If you buy the car in LA, you pay 9.75% sales tax. In my county in WA it's 9.8%. I confirmed that you can apply what you paid toward Washingon's tax. I would have owned .05% when I licensed the car up here. To confirm I called the department of revenue and the local licensing department.

It appears that if you buy a car in California and are not a resident you are not covered by the California lemon law. If you are a Washington resident, but buy elsewhere, you are not covered by the Washington lemon law.

Thanks for the information on buying out of state... very interesting.

Given your experience, I think you made the right choice to get the vehicle, locally. Good luck with it!
