Has anyone purchased (or in the process of purchasing) a new MDX that would be willing to share prices with me? I am planning to purchase in the next 2-3 weeks and would like to understand how the market is. I am willing to travel for a good price so if you live in NC or surrounding state and have pricing information, please share.

Anyone willing to share price paid for a 2007 Acura MDX with sports or tech package at St Louis/surrounding cities? Appreciate your help.

We're on a similar time line as you and we live in Charlotte. Hope to stop this weekend for an extended test drive. Want to test diff between sport vs. non-sport model. I'll let you know when we discuss $$.

We purchased an MDX with Ent/Tech on the Peninsula (Redwood City area) in late March. Paid $43,000 for Ent/Tech with Red Cherry Pearl and an additional $500 for roof rails, wheel locks and cargo cover. Edmunds made it easy and nearly all the Acura dealers emailing me back with a first offer than ranged from $43.1K to $43.5K. Amazing. Will post on another thread with first impressions but it is fantastic. Test drove nearly every mid-high end SUV before buying this one, including the X-5, XC90, 400H and Range Rover Sport (I know, I know). The MDX was better in nearly every dimension (value, handling, styling, etc). BMW handling was very good but also quite different than this car. Styling is clearly superior on the BMW and the Range Rover but I really like the MDX. Overall, I'm thrilled with our purchase.

Sorry, forgot to clarify that the $43K was including destination but not tax + licensing fees.

which dealer in PA? which dealer on LI gave you the best price? I personally have not had much luck with acura dealers on LI, I guess they feel they can overcharge and get away with it.

Last weekend purchased a 2007 MDX Tech/Ent for $42,846. Roof rack with cross bars and side steps - out the door with tax lic, etc $47,800. Very happy with the deal and the purchase. Not much of a discount on the West Coast, as there is on the East Coast. Good luck with your purchase.

I live in Raleigh and bought a WONDERFUL MDX TECH/ENTERTAINMENT about three weeks ago at Rosenthal Acura in Gaithersburg, MD. I LOVE IT! I flew in to Reagan National in D.C.one morning, hopped on the metro and the salesperson, who was great (no pressure, just helpful), picked me up. I was on my way home by 2:00, after he spent at least an hour and a half going over the navigation system and bluetooth which was a good idea. By the time I drove it home, I was had all the gadgets pretty much figured out. I paid $42,395.00 for it. The guy at Leith wouldn't come close to that price, but the fellow at Performance Acura in Chapel Hill did do a little better, but I found it was worth flying up to MD. If you would like, email me directly and I will give you the name of my salesperson. The only negative is that they told me they would get my license for NC in two weeks and it is now three and I don't have it and when I called up there, they weren't scrambling to get it for me. Oh, and the bluetooth does have trouble with southern accents! I do love this car!

In NJ if anyone paid more than invoice, then you paid too much. That I can tell you for Sure.
  • ncmdxncmdx Member Posts: 19
That was my exact experience with Leith Acura in Cary, NC when I tried to buy a new 05 MDX from them 2 years ago. I am amazed that they haven't caught on by now. Their diatribe of repressed markets and other excuses did little to deter me from getting the car I wanted and the price I was willing to pay for it. The best part was 2 weeks after I drove it home, they emailed me to check my interest if they threw in all weather mats..... ahhh, the joy of emailing him back that I had already purchased thousands below his best pricing and with the mats.

What was the break down of your deal in Maryland?

I just picked up a silver Sport for $43,750. Added sport running boards and D/N mirror for $500, $250 doc fees, $25.50 title & tags and 7.5% state tax out the door for $47,863. I came in $1,000 above Consumer Reports dealer cost ($41,075). Didn't haggle very hard. I'm pretty easy going and so were they. All over the phone with the internet contact at Park Acura in Akron, OH. AMAZING ride!

I would say you overpaid by 2500. ( 2000 if dest charge was included in you 43,750).

I may not have gotten the discount some of you dreamers are trying to get, but I have mine in my garage now. I absolutely love it. Bought at Buerkle Acura in Minneapolis, MN and had the best buying experience ever. I have a Sport in Black. The vehicle is exceeding my expectations in every way. My advice: Go buy one and quit worrying about a couple hundred bucks. Besides, if you beat the dealers up too badly, it'll hurt the resale.

  • cvistacvista Member Posts: 54
    Open road .Wayne and E-brunswick.
Online quote will be around 700 more than invoice. U can bargain to make it close to invoice. Basically tell them u need that price but with dest included.

I can well afford a 50k vehicle and one of the ways I accumulated my wealth was saving on a few items, especially ones that depreciate, such as a car. $1000 is $1000. Paying an extra grand for a car is equivalent to handing some sales guy an extra 1000 dollar bill. Its my money and I don't just hand out extra 1000s to car dealers.
  • jmpage2jmpage2 Member Posts: 268
The point of my post was that not everyone can get the same deal. Just because a dealer in New Jersey will sell a hot car at invoice price doesn't mean that someone in Atlanta can get the same deal.

The best deals are on cars that aren't selling well. If you are looking at a hot import sometimes you don't have any choice but to pay MSRP or close to it. If you aren't in a hurry then sometimes it pays to wait a year for things to settle down and then you find that dealers are more willing to negotiate.

In the end though, if the car you really want can only be had for $1000 more than a guy in another part of the country is paying, does it really matter if it gets you what you want?

Has anyone bought the MDX in Eastern PA, especially around the Easton area? If so, for how much over Invoice. There are only a few Acura dealers around here, and the Internet price at the LeHigh Valley Acura was about $45,865 for Sport/Ent, still about 2500 over invoice. I'm willing to buy it in Jersey but if so, do I pay the Jersey tax or the PA tax?

Apreciate any info you have. Hadn't planned on buying this car until next year but my 02 Altima's engine pretty much died  and now I need a car ASAP.
  • mtairyordgemtairyordge Member Posts: 144
I decided I wnated to buy the MDX when I went shopping with my wife for her RDX. I want the tech/ent package about 2 months ago MD dealers were at 44-45K w/o dest. The dealer told me to wait till summer, there will be less demand. Now he called me and said that 43.4K w/dest would be the price. That's about a 2K drop in 2months. I think the demad is slowing or stock is catching up. Im targeting end of May or July 4th.

Anyone have direction on how to swap out the steering wheel for the wood grain steering wheel?

I just bought a base mdx in chesapeake, va Priority Acura. It was $36,800 plus dealership fees of $399 plus state tax and registration fees. It totalled $38,446. I mentioned an email quote I got from Springfield, NJ and asked them to match it. They did and we were finished with pricing process in 10min.

Wonderful salesperson. Very fast, no hassle. No hassle about accessories or about financing. I will buy all cars in the future from Priority especially priority acura. This edmunds forum helped me a lot. Thanks.

NOLA(new orleans) walker acura dealership gave only $1000 off of MSRP. Thats after 1hr where the salesperson went to the manager three times and came back to us whispering that he did not want the manager hearing him tell us that he felt we could get another $100 off if we came back tomorrow.

Salesperson not very enthusiastic or helpful initially. Had about 15 mdx's on the lot. MDX's came with accessories that we could not bargain on or remove. Needless to say we purchased the MDX elsewhere.

I bought the 2007 Acura MDX base model (aspen white) today for $37400+ $150 for title/registration plus tax. Paid another $2510 for Acura care 8yr/120K extended warranty. The lowest FINANCE APR I was able to get was 5.99% for 60 months.

    Here is the breakup-
    $37400 + PA state tax of $2618 + $150 for title/registration + $2510 for extended warranty- TOTAL $42668.

IS THIS A GOOD DEAL? I guess it is a stupid question to ask since I already bought the vehicle!

This is the deal I got for Acura Sports MDX on 04/28/2007 at Morande Acura - Berlin - CT

Acura MDX sports - $42004 (Includes Destination)
    Con fee - $249

    Total $42253

Accessories (15% on the dealership retail cost with installation)
roof Rails + Sports Running boards + Wheels Locks
    All the above for $980

Total with all above - $43233
    Tax 6% - $2594
    [non-permissible content removed]+reg+Lien - $100
    total on road - $45927

    Finance
    4.74 % for 60 months

What do readers think about this deal?

I did my research for nearly 2 months.
  • cvistacvista Member Posts: 54
I would say it's a good deal. May be you paid little more for roof rails etc(MSRP was around 500) but overall pretty good. The best thing about your deal is 4.7 APR. You saved atleast 2000 in interest. The lowest I'm able to find is 6.5% for 60 months with excellent credit.
  • lexbarlexbar Member Posts: 5
Took delivery of MDX w/ Tech/Ent, Nimbus Grey(Odometer 37 miles) @ Open Rd Acura, Brunswick, NJ. Here is the breakdown. Of course, a few days email haggling went around.

    $42000
    2940 (NJ Tax )
    7.50 Tire charge
    79.00 Title registration
    298.00 Doc
    + Two FREE oil changes

    $45324 Total OTD.

I declined most of the rarely used add-on services and extended warranty since all were with bloated markups.

They said it had 37 miles since they have to get it from a different dealer.
  • kat101kat101 Member Posts: 14
Just got a base model MDX for $37,036 plus $299 doc and Title, tax, and reg. This is $100 over invoice. Probably could have gotten to invoice, or maybe even lower, but it was close enough for me.

I e-mailed internet managers and asked them if they could beat each other's prices. Did all the negotiation in 1 week and went to a dealer in N. Virgina with a lot of color options. Picked the color and was on my way.

Good luck if you are purchasing, it's a great car!

    Hi,

Thanks for your advice. I looked at the site which was offering the extended warranty for $500 less than what I paid. The online application form for Acura extended warranty at http://hondawarrantyinfo.com has Honda care written on it and the application form given by my dealer has Acura care written on it. Moreover the site you mentioned is a Honda dealer and NOT an Acura dealer. So an extended warranty purchased from a Honda dealer will not be honored by an Acura dealer.

Price for accessories is as following:

    Item Acura $$ RetailDealer$$ My $$
    Roof Rails $219 $389 $299
    Sports Running Boards $560 $765 $587
    Wheels Locks $85 $123 $94
    ------ ----- -------
    Totals $864 $1277 $980
Compared to Acura listed price I paid only $116 more for the accessories.
(I do understand that the installation of the above would take nearly 2 hours * $80 = $160 would cost the dealer)

    Acura MDX sports Invoice $41334
    destination Charge $670
    -------
MDX was offered to me at $42004
(I tried for 1% holdback to be given to me but they were not ready. Holdback would generally be 1% to 3% from factory to dealer)
After I got the confirmation from different dealers that they can't beat this price I made up my mind to take for the above listed price.

What more could I have done to get a better deal? Any idea Cvista?

I calculated for cross bars instead of running boards. It's a pretty good deal and you are a smart shopper. Why pay more by being ignorant when you can get better price for the same car.

At this time, you can't go any lower unless you wait til memorial day !!

Where did you get 4.7 ??. APR is the one delaying my purchase.
DCU credit union gives me 6.5 for 60 months. MY FICO score is around 780
  • pvsaig949pvsaig949 Member Posts: 11
Your credit score is really good as is with me.

Here are the links I can give you to find the best rates I could get during my car buy.

    www.northwestfcu.org -
    60 months 4.74% - 4.99%

    https://www.usalliance.org/welcomeX.aspx
    60 months 5.75% - 5.99%

How much would you expect that they could go down during the memorial day sale? Guess is OK for me?
  • pvsaig949pvsaig949 Member Posts: 11
-how much should i put as car payment

$500 - $1000 by credit card only. At any cost NO cash or checks.

-should i lease or own? (i dont want to change cars every year-this would do just fine)
Buy, I mean Own the car.

-any hidden costs i should be aware of ?
    lemon law - $5 - $10
    Title + Reg + Lien = $150 (Max)
    Documentation Charge $300 (Max)

Don't let the dealer tell you to get the VIN etching with him (dealer may tell that is the state or federal law). There is no law that the VIN etching as to be done at the dealer and you can get get a package for doing your self for $50 max on the internet.

-i want to keep my old license plate nos, how do i do that?
Just tell the dealer that you want to keep your plates but are you doing a trade in?
  • cvistacvista Member Posts: 54
On memorial day, may be they can give you for $1000 less ??. I don't know. It's Acura not Honda/Toyota.
Probably they might offer 1.9 or 2.9 APR where you could save some money.

For NCU, can anyone become member ??? or do they need reference ??
  • pvsaig949pvsaig949 Member Posts: 11
You need references. Employer/Family or for other references please check thier website or give them a call.

I just now got a call from Sunnyside acura of New Hampshire - Nashua and was discussing the deal I got for my Acura MDX - Sports - they were still not able to offer any where near to it.

I tried to get his thoughts on buying the same during the memorial day sale and he was some what not sure if I could get below invoice even during the memorial day sale.

Any of the car makers are not ready to offer good APR's even during the "good sale day" (Like Memorial Day) for SUV's but offer a good APR for small car sector in thier make/market, Like sedans and so. Acura MDX 2006 was and is being offered at APR 3.99% even today. So, can you expect that they will offer 2.99% APR during the memorial day!

    My personal thought for all:-
During my car buying process (even today as the car has not yet been delivered to me. Delivery is on 05/03/2007)) I am learning new methods and tricks dealers use to hit you, that to badly to keep your money or take money from your pockets. Don't trust the talk they have with you or do with you, turst the paper they write upon only. Remember that they are not your common/daily friends/family members to provide trust for you. After going through the process of buying a car, I decided to help those in the market to buy cars by making them aware of few tricks I know off.

    1. Always take a BUDDY with you and ask your buddy to engage any other person trying to talk to the buyer during the Purchase. The buyer need to concentrate on the paper work.

    2. Don't go to the dealership late in the day or 2 hours before the close of business to make your purchase.

    3. For negotiations go late in the evening.

    4. For buying go early in the morning such that you have pently of time to read and decide to sign the purchase order.

    5. Take your laptop to connect to the internet for anything the sales person tries to sell you during the purchase order.

    6. Just tell the finance guy, please give me the purchase order with all the numbers in it. I will read it completely and then get back to you - I mean go the cafe at the dealership - connect to internet - check all the listed prices in the market - check if the listed prices are applied because of state or federal law - if not you have the option of asking them to take them out from your purchase order.
    - talk to your friends about the listed items - take other dealership numbers - discuss the charges they put on your purchase order with other dealers if in doubt.

DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING AFTER YOU REACH THE FINANCE GUY - LIKE THE WAX PACKAGE - PROTECTION PACKAGE and so on - just tell " no no no no" to everything the finance guy tries to offer you. Don't trust the marketing words the finance or senior sales guy doing your purchase order telling you during the write up.

    Happy shopping!
  • cvistacvista Member Posts: 54
2.99 is unlikely. MDX sales are not good these days. That's exactly why they are selling for invoice. Milage, Gas prices close to $3 and MDX 2007 price is not helping the cause.

Of-course MDX is a great vehicle but not doing great as Honda had expected, so they might be willing to provide more rebates for dealers enabling them to go below invoice in summer.

The lowest quote that I have in hand is 400 below invoice and open-road Wayne wants to beat it. But I'm not ready to buy right now due to personal reasons. Not everyone has enough time like me.

Just now got a call from the dealership and the sales person told that I am given One Free Oil Change Coupon for my First Service during the vehicle delivery.

Try to pull them for Two Free Oil Change Coupons but couldn't succeed.

Are there any other requests that I need to put in front of the dealer before I can take the delivery of the vehicle?
  • cheapskate21cheapskate21 Member Posts: 49
    PVSAIG,

I think you're getting a very good deal. You're paying invoice price for the car and the accessories. I don't think it could get any better than that. The dealer must be desperate. :confuse:

Shopping around my area, the current best price I get is $2500 above invoice. I may as well just buy it out-of-state and ship it here. Shipping is about $1000. I still will save $1500. :shades:

Do you have the name and email of the salesperson you bought it from? Btw, what color did you get?
  • pvsaig949pvsaig949 Member Posts: 11
Color - Black and Black - Always the best on the road.

I can, but let me ask them if they don't mind me sharing their name?
  • cvistacvista Member Posts: 54
I spoke to my credit union. They will price match for 4.7 APR.
Wow that's 2% down from my original offer.
  • pvsaig949pvsaig949 Member Posts: 11
So, are we on our way to shop the vehicle now or are you still with some other thoughts?
  • msindallasmsindallas Member Posts: 190
cheapskate21: I guess you are shopping in the Dallas area, too. Keep us informed what happens to the shopping. I will send out e-mails to dealers middle of May, and plan to buy the vehicle at the end of the month (shooting for Memorial Day). If my research results are similar to yours, I might consider buying out of state and shipping it here, too.

Btw, did you try hitting the dealers in Austin and Houston? You could just fly there and drive the MDX back home if you get a good deal. Best wishes, - MS.
