on a rollback, what looked like a freshly painted Chevy C10 (the late 60s vintage). SB, step side. Stunning paint (baby blue with white roof and trim). Must have just been completed.

These 60s pickups are starting to become more valuable in the last two years, and they are easy restorations.

20K for a Ford Elite, hilarious.

An almost new looking early 90s Chevy Lumina Euro. Black 4dr with gray interior. It looked original, no dents, great depth and shine to the paint.

Had to run out the other day to one of our locations and saw this 80s gem.  Couldn't tell you hat last time I saw one.

Jay Leno's garage featured a GLH-S a week or two ago .. along with a couple other Shelbys, and two of Carroll's grandsons.

My dad had an 86 Shelby Charger.  What a cool car back then (I was 8).

Dream Ride is in town, but not going anywhere near it.
Probably why I saw a green 67 Mustang fastback, with gold C stripes.
    Also, a medium blue 69 Mach 1.

On the roads today, an absolutely pristine Lincoln Mark VIII, all shined up, metallic red with polished wheels and beige leather, driven by an older guy (i.e. my age). Really turned my head. A handsome car that you don't see often nowadays in such condition.

Out on the road today, saw an immaculate as-new Fox Continental bustleback - of all the things to preserve.

Also a 1940 Pontiac, obviously restored to original, seen for a moment in the oncoming lane here:

And a couple of Fairladys, cars that make a Miata look big. The lead car had 1965 year of manufacture plates:

Of all things, a '55 Studebaker coupe on Highway 680S heading toward San Jose. Moving along smartly, looked perfectly stock.

Many old domestic cars appear SMALL--it looked so dainty on those skinny tires.

I saw that Dodge Dynasty again, looks like a two month old car - either someone restored one (LOL) or inherited grandma's baby. Also 2x Geo Tracker, Ferrari 360/430 cabrio, 2x MGB, MB 300CD with California blue plates.

A "Bugatti" kit car, with VW power. Painted in proper Bugatti blue, and somebody put some old Model A wires on it, and painted 'em red. There was also a custom dash full of gauges and I have to say it did look like it might be fun to drive around town--presuming one is not embarrassed to be such an imposter. I would guess that any random part you took off a real Bugatti would be worth the entire price of this kit.

I had a '84 Horizon SE some years back. It was pretty responsive with the 2.2 and 5 sp. It also had PS,PB and a/c.

That Horizon reminds me of a "fancy" one I rode in with my dad on a test drive around 1985. I remember how plush the velour seemed compared to the vinyl in his Horizon.

Never knew Marantz made car audio back then.  The interior is identical to the 85 Dodge Charger my Mom had.  (and 86 Shelby Charger dad had).  We were a Mopar family through the 80s, my Uncle was GM at a Doge dealer.

I'd ask if Marantz is still around, but if it is, it is probably like Sansui - entirely different ownership outside of Japan.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,414
I saw the W201 190D 2.5 I have seen a few times. Paint is in iffy taste (flat black, either a wrap or thick primer), but it purrs like a kitten, sounds like it is running like new.

I remember when Marantz had the top rated home speakers on the market.. (around 1980).
I bought a '76 Jeep from a friend, because he wouldn't sell me his Marantz speakers. (If you sell me the speakers for $350, I'll buy your Jeep, too for $2800.)

It worked, got the Jeep and the speakers.. ;)

I loved Marantz gear in the late '70s, especially their receivers. Just really handsome stuff. I still have in storage a Marantz cassette deck from the early '80s. I bought it because it had soft-touch electro-mechanical control buttons, which I thought was way cool back then.

Marantz is now based in Japan, but they still make very well-regarded high-end audio and HT equipment. I'll definitely consider their AVRs if/when I evet upgrade to 9.2 audio and UHD video

The Marantz was a good head unit, had a clean look and nice tactile feel. It worked well with the upgraded speakers that I had installed. Replacing the factory head unit and speakers made all the difference. After upgrading sound systems to several cars, I learned that other than the listening enjoyment I got out of the upgraded system it wasn't money well spent.

They're around but all I see are ones that are all miled up and/or dubiously modified.

an assortment of old stuff driving or street parked (so being used) in Toronto. What I remember:

1970 Dodge 4 door fury (I think, not the huge one). Primer gray. Full of hipster types. and a 1974ish 2 door (the really big ones) LTD barge, in pretty good shape, also driven by a younger dude. Actually pulling into a parking garage. Brave man.

a 1981 300CD 2 door HT, Brown, for sale! and a 75ish Volvo 145 (maybe a 245, but the classic square back end that started on the 145 in the 60s), In the same classic Volvo blue our '69 was.

back home, on the PA tpke, a VW bug (looked tweaked), and a 64 or 65 malibu convertible. And near my house, a 69 Chevelle. Must have been a 383, since it had stripes on the back that said "stroker". Looked good. smelled like it was running rich, but rumbled nice.

Saw a 00s era Camry in pearl white with a beige cabrio top. Looks like someone moved from Joisey or Florida - nothin but style and class.

Also 2 minty looking late run W124 sedans

It might have, I was just far enough away not to be able to tell. I think gold trim was a thing on Toyolex cars well into the mid 00s. There's a fad that I doubt is missed by many people.
