Has anyone had experience with the Costco program wrt the Pilot? Is it a certain amount off of MSRP, or a certain amount over invoice?

    Thanks,

I just got screwed by Plaza Mall Honda in Brooklyn. My fault I should have gotten everything in writing however,I believe this cast of characters would have found another way to F#K me. The car business is a sad state of affairs when these people look for anyway they can to get over on somebody.

This is what I was quoted over the phone. The above vehicle in Nimbus Gray, 15k/yr-$399/month before taxes 36 month lease, $1199 due up front(1st month, doc fees, aq fee). Received the quote on Dec 27th, confirmed it the next day with the sales manager, submitted finance info, got the vin, insured the car, and was told that it would be availale for pickup the following day or next. Guess what, car didn't show up until Tuesday Jan 2nd and would be available for evening pickup. I have no way to get over to the dealership so the dealer offers to pay for a car service since "this has to be done today because the money factor changes tomorrow" which I still don't know if it did or not. So, I agree and take a car service over, (i pay, and the money will be deducted from my upfront payment-scam)meet the delivery guy, and the finance [non-permissible content removed]. The sales manager and the sales rep I originally spoke to are not there. I check out the car with the deliv guy and yes its what I asked for-great. I sit down with the finance tool and review the lease and thats when he tells me its for 12k a year and not 15k-I show him all my notes, he leaves to go talk to another crook, comes back with two stooges and right off they're confrontational, they both tell me no deal, they are rude and insulting. Tell me they checked with the sales liar (probably didn't even call the guy)I spoke to and he says no he quoted 12k. They refuse to show me the sales managers notes or let me talk to him. It gets heated, very heated,I should have walked but eventually agree to $414 because I just didn't want to start the whole process over again and didn't know for sure if the money factor was changing or not. I leave at almost 10pm, totally unhappy, pissed off, and disappointed in myself that I let these lowlife scumbags get the best of me.

I believe the whole thing was orchestrated from the getgo. I believe the car was there the whole time and they arranged for delivery the evening before the rates would change. The fact that I had to take a car service just reinforced their scam, not paying for it upfront so if I walk I'm out $30.

End of the day, I'm the [non-permissible content removed] for expecting people to be honorable, I'm the [non-permissible content removed] for not walking away from these crooks.

I was offered a EX-L 4WD cash price OTD for $31620.09 which I believe it is included the new cash incentive ($1500).

I am waiting for the OTD price for the finacing thru Honda dealership.

If it would go with the cash price OTD, would it be a good deal already?
  • austexaustex Member Posts: 62
I have a OTD of around $31050 for a 07 EXL 4WD in Dallas area which includes the new incentive. Think I could go lower since I need to add options. This is around $1330 more than that the Mass person could manage.
  • jsmahonjsmahon Member Posts: 2
I'm looking in the Boston area, can you tell me where you found the best deal?? Were you trading in a car and if so, did you get a good price for that? Thanks for any help
  • plchanplchan Member Posts: 66
Any recommendation on the dealerships in LA / OC area, and which one I should stay away from?

Some of the dealers do not want to put the OTD price for my request in email / writing. Are they afraid that I would use it and price match with others?

Any tips to get around in order to get quote in writing?

First time buyer and I am glad I found this website. It will be my first brand new car / truck. Yahooo!
  • austexaustex Member Posts: 62
AvgJoe : I dont know how you managed to get that in Oct last year but the best I managed was $28700 from a dealer in Dallas,tx. I know 7th is the end of the month for them and basically have tomorrow and day after. I am wondering if they can give me a better deal like the one like $27500 for the Mass guy. :confuse:

Watch out for Herb Chambers. They are masters at bait and switch. They will give you a low price on the phone and jack it up with fees once you are there.

Last August I got a great deal on a 2006 Honda Pilot from Santa Ana Honda. I suggest you send an e-mail directly to their internet sales dept and request a quote. Happy shopping.
  • changrjchangrj Member Posts: 3
Definitely stay away from rock honda in fontana. They were(at least to us) very condescending, deceiving and played bunch of sale tricks on us; they threw in bogus price number and kept rotating 4 sale persons at us; they even asked us to fill out a credit application and promised not to run a credit check when we were only there to talk about the car price, what is up with that?? I don't know what they were trying to achieve with this kind of dirty tricks, but when we would not bite and were walking out, they quickly stopped us at the doorway and showed their "lowest offer", which was more than $2500 of difference from their first few numbers, but it was too late then even they wanted to make the deal
  • jumper71jumper71 Member Posts: 3
Purchased from Herb Chambers in Westboro. No trade in - I should be able to get much more selling on my own.
  • justaveragejoejustaveragejoe Member Posts: 268
According to the DMV website the registration fees are $250 and tax is $2212 for a purchase price of $28,500 (I used Newport Beach as the zip code). That would get you OTD for $30,962. Using those percentages, you have a price of $29,110 for the car. I imagine the dealer has some doc fees and other fees, but I would not pay more than 50 bucks for those total.

You have a lot of dealers down there, keep sending out email requests.

Don't rush, the deals are only going to get better.

Remember only to deal with your internet contacts and not the showroom salesfolks.

A big thank you to everyone for making this forum so informative!

    I drove home a 2007 EX-L 2WD w/ Navigation last night.
    - Pin Stripes
    - Door Edge Guards
    - Splash Guards
    - Wheel Locks
    - Cargo Tray
    - Moonroof Visor (This may be standard?)
    - Paint and Leather Treatment w/ 5yr warranty

    $32,874.19 OTD or $30,700.00 + TT&L

Also arranged for the 0.9% financing for 36 months.

In the Boston area contact Ernie Boch Honda, they are the #1 Honda dealer in the country.. I talked to Keith Steinger this morning who quoted me $30244, plus tax tags and registration for an EXL 4WD with NAV --- but this is with the $1500 credit from Honda... OR you can get the 0.9 percent financing for tier 1 credit but the price goes to $31544. VERY easy to deal with. They do charge an additional fee of $298 for document prep, but I can live with that.. I would not normally agree to pay that.
  • jsmahonjsmahon Member Posts: 2
Thanks so much for that info. I will give them a call in the morning. I also got price of 31544 from someone there on the internet, now I see how they came up with that number.
I haven't heard anything about a 1500$ credit from anyone yet (hope you can still get it)I will try! Thanks again,Stephanie

I would check out carbuyingtips.com for their methodology. Last time I bought a Honda, I used the methodology described there and I ended up buying a Honda for ~$1,200 under invoice. I recently bought a VW Passat for ~$1,800 under invoice, too. I'm not happy with the room on the Passat, so I'm looking at the EX-L, too.

The other thing I've found gets you better deals is waiting until the end of the month, as dealers are more willing to give the store away to make sales quota numbers.

I bought an Accord EX-L w/Nav in Jun 06. I'm not pleased with the size of it and want to trade for a Pilot EX-L w/Nav. Does anyone know approx how much of a loss I can expect on the Accord? It has about 3500 miles on it and looks like brand new. Thanks, Carolyn

I got a quote of $30,617 before tax and license. Is this a reasonable deal? Does anyone have a better quote from CO dealers? Thanks.

    Hi, christinam1..

Post a description of your car here: Real-World Trade-In Values

I am in CO and the best quote I have received for the EXL 4wd Pilot with RES is $31,717 from Ralph Schomp. What dealership did you get that at? I would love to use that as a price match if you do not mind. Thanks!
  • hsixsixsixhsixsixsix Member Posts: 8
A real quick and pleasant experience. 24 Hours from e-mail negotiations to driving off the lot.

    Got an EX-L 2WD NAV 2007 + Splashguards/Wheel Locks/All Season Mats for:

    $29,450 + 2433.34 (8.25% tax) + $45 Doc Fee + 264.75 Official Fees = $32,193.09 OTD.

I think the wheel locks and splash guards were "free" and I only paid for the all-season mats ($129)

All they asked me to do was to give them the best rating when Honda called. Um, duh.. of course.

Wow, sorry to hear that. I am very surprised that no one responded to this post. I guess that may be the way things are in Brooklyn, not sure, but I would have walked. $30 is a small price to pay to avoid that kind of experience. Not to mention the fact that now you will either continue to deal with those people, or you will have to find a different dealer for service anyway.

Good luck with your Pilot, hopefully it will treat you better than the dealer.

Did you get the special finance from Honda? What state/city are you in? Thanks! :)
  • hsixsixsixhsixsixsix Member Posts: 8
No financing. Cash price OTD. I got it in the San Francisco Bay Area.

I am in the s.e. Va./n.e N.C. area and I'm looking for an '07 2wd EX-L. Is $28,000 (incl. dest.) a good starting point?? Carsdirect.com has the target price at $27,776!! Thanks for any advice
  • goodlivinggoodliving Member Posts: 7
Which dealership you purchased your Pilot from? I live in the bay area and I am in the market for the same SUV. Is it Anderson Honda or Capitol Honda? Thanks.
  • tpiersontpierson Member Posts: 1
how long ago was this quote and who did you deal with there? I'm looking at $32,400 from Fisher in Boulder for 4x4 EXL with Res, and would love to have another competitive bid

    Thanks for your help!
  • hsixsixsixhsixsixsix Member Posts: 8
I was quoted last Friday (1/8?) and picked it up the next day. This was from the San Francisco Area though. Our tax rate is 8.25%/
  • hsixsixsixhsixsixsix Member Posts: 8
No and No. Anderson Honda (Palo Alto) despite their radio ads are not giving good deals compared to what a little leg work will get you.

I wound up with Oakland Honda and El Cerrito Honda would probably have matched, but the early bird gets the worm.

I also tried to work with Concord (annoying) via Costco and Winter Honda (good CR).

It came down to who had what I wanted at the time.
  • codrivercodriver Member Posts: 21
Try Fisher Honda in Boulder. I used my Costco membership and mentioned the $1500 dealer cash incentive. They said that I bought a car (Odyssey) from them before, so they gave me the entire $1500. You can also ask Ralph Schomp if they can give you the dealer cash incentive, too. Good luck.
  • codrivercodriver Member Posts: 21
The quote was given on Jan 06. I got a little higher quote ($31117) from John Elway. But they charge $399 dealer handling charge on top of the price.

Im getting a quote for an 07 Pilot EXL NAVI 2WD for 28,597.00 (car price) and 30,634.08 drive out in texas. The only
thing is the dealer said it is just an "older" unit that needs to go, but it has 100 miles on it, they say from test drives and all. should I be concerned or grab it?? It looks brand new and im afraid to wait too long.

    Help me out guys!
  • christinam1christinam1 Member Posts: 18
I was offered $31,851 OTD price for 07 Pilot EX-L with Nav.
If I trade by 06 Accord EX-L with Nav, they offered a 24,000 trade in. This comes to a diff of $7851.00 OTD between the two. This is my first experience trading a practically new car and I desperately need advice and comments. Thanks.
  • tmock13tmock13 Member Posts: 38
Why are you trading a one year old car? The first year is when a vehicle takes the biggest depreciation hit. You probably lost around $4-5 thousand dollars(includes what you pay for tags, taxes) if you trade it in. It wouldn't sit too well with me.

I could understand if you needed a bigger vehicle but you should known this before you purchased the 06 Accord. I owned a 07 Pilot EXL 4WD Navi and a 02 Odyssey EXL. If your intentions is for hauling the family with room to spare, get a Odyssey. Pilot is okay but third row seating is extremely tight even for kids. It is really a 5 passenger SUV with good trunk space with the third row seats down.

Is the $31,851 OTD price include the destination of $595? Are tags and taxes included?
Is the vehicle a 4WD or 2WD? I paid $32300 (DESTINATION OF $595 INCLUDED) for my 07 Pilot EXL 4WD Navi in Nimbus Gray Metallic. Tags/Taxes are not included with my price.

For curious sake, What is the special program or incentive for the Pilots right now? Is there a dealer cash rebate going on? The Pilots seem to be much cheaper now than 3 months ago when I purchased it with the 4.9% financing being offered.

I am still getting quotes in for the same Pilot you want, and the last one I got yesterday was $29,320 (car price), which is $1 less than what I paid.
  • spursfan2007spursfan2007 Member Posts: 17
So what you guys are saying is hurry up and get it and stop worrying about the 100 miles that are on it.....

So I guess ill call them up and tell them im on the way.
  • hsixsixsixhsixsixsix Member Posts: 8
I put a hundred miles on my Pilot the day I drove it out of the showroom. Not a big deal, and heck that nasty smell from all the lubricants they put on it should at least be diminished by now.
  • spursfan2007spursfan2007 Member Posts: 17
I was a little late ...maybe...supposedly there is a hold on it for some one until Sat. Morn. and if they decide not to buy it, Im gonna get it...because I have a hold on it after that.

The sales guy told me if I was just an hour quicker i would be driving it now...but the guy in front of me might be getting a 4wd so we will see what happens. Thanks every 1 and ill let all know what the out come is.

this is what i got from one dealer (who im buying from Saturday)

07 Accords ...at or below what they call their cost (not invoice) over 100 available
    Example: SE 4cyl auto 4dr - 18,337.00 to 19,773.00

Congrats on your soon-to-be new Pilot! I couldn't agree more about the deals at Gunn Honda. I bought an LX 2WD back in Dec. for well under what Edmunds states as invoice. We initially looked at a CR-V but jumped on the Pilot when we saw the pricing. Haven't regretted the Pilot one bit. Enjoy.
