    jbv,

I sent you an email earlier, I hope you received it.

Anyway that price sounds to me like it does not include your taxes. at the "dead Nuts" price you are something like 27k OTD.

please check with that dealer to make sure they quoted you correctly, or that the Pilot is not an 06.

good luck and look for my email.

Hi - I've already begun e-mailing ~ 20 dealers (max) off the Honda web site and have received initial prices for the majority of them in 2 days. have a starting point. plan to buy however am waiting to see what Honda's next financing options will be (won't lease).

What is recommend way for someone to negotiate remotely with a dealer if a trade-in is involved? so that you can "secure" a guaranteed minimum trade-in before driving the distance? The last thing I'd want to deal with is someone trying to haggle at last minute.

    How have others done this?

    Hello everyone,
Been working the dealers in the Bay Area (Silicon Valley) very hard. Trying to get the best deal on a 07' Pilot 4wd EX-L w/NAV. Results so far: MSRP $35,445 ; Base Invoice $31,912 ; Sale Price $31,763 ; OTD $34,709.

Can't get any dealers in my area to go lower than that. Any suggestions or feedback at this point would be MUCH APPRECIATED ! Does this sound like a reasonable price?
  • jfritschjfritsch Member Posts: 958
Just out of curiosity... how many dealers did you get quotes from? The Nav version is one dealers like to hold on to as they are limited and popular especially when getting picky on color.

That said, you may wind up paying $3000 (net) or so more than one of the more numerous ex-l or ex models. I have some friends with the $400 Best Buy Navi installed, so unless there is some big advantage.....

Check out my message 3863 on the CRV-Forum and go from there for useful info on buying a car. Fax or email 30+ dealers (Navi with color pref may be rare) with your requirements toward the end of the month. Give your cell, the fact you are getting 20 bids, and will definitely buy before Dec 31. See where the bidding goes. Perhaps you will find 2 or 3 who really want to move a car.

Since the Pilot and the Ridgeline wholesale about $10000 from list 1st year, I would want at least $5500 off, or I would really really want one. Honda never does the rebate gig, and what incentives there are are usually played close to the chest to give their dealers maximum flexibility.

To clear out the 06's they were generally offering $6500-$7500 off MSRP to move them off the lots to just about anybody with credit or cash. (Check out July and August Discussions) The entire SUV segment was offering big discounts in 06 and the scenery hasn't changed much.

    miles,

I went to Carmax and got a quote that was good for 7 days and 300 miles (if memory serves). Most dealers will get close to the Carmax number, and if they won't, you know what you can get, so you just remove the trade from the deal. The only impact in most states is sales tax, but that only amounts to a few hundred dollars in most cases. Good luck with your purchase.
  • miles267miles267 Member Posts: 10
Thanks. I'll check out carmax. Also, what would be recommended procedure if you're dealing w/ internet dealers remotely and have a trade in? My parents are in that situation and wanted to know how to at least secure a fair minimum price via remote negotiations before driving to a remote dealer. granted, they'll have to inspect and drive vehicle upon arrival, but trade in would play a big part in equation.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,755
That's always tough. Dealers do not want to give quotes on trade-ins remotely. In all the dealings I've had, I got ONE dealer out of dozens to give me a number on the phone, and that was a car I had with only 15k miles, so that probably played a part in his willingness. All you can do is ask and hope they'll be up-front.

How can anyone expect a dealer to appraise a trade over the phone? A lot of dealers will tell you what you want to hear in order to get you to come in.

Everyone has a different idea of what condition their trade is in. We really need to look at it, make phone calls ect.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,755
Depends on the area. 99% of dealers in this area NEVER do anything more in person than open their Galves.

All I try to find out, if I'm driving a long distance to visit them, is if they are indeed using Galves (or, if not, what book are they using?). I can get that number myself, so as long as I know that's what we are working from, there's no problem making the drive.

Having said that, however, I can understand the problem from the dealers perspective not wanting to give numbers on the phone for fear of that person who "forgets" to tell them it had a $20k accident 2 years ago and now they are making a big scene in the showroom because the number on the phone was entirely different.

I went to Carmax also. The Honda dealer here in Roseville matched the Carmax value and matched the offer for the new Pilot that I had from Stockton Honda, which was well below everyone's initial offer. Send an email to Stockton Honda's internet department, since they are not that far away from you. The trade-in price was lower than what I could have sold the vehicle to a private party but since I knew it was ready to blow a headgasket, I didn't want to get a knock on my door soon after the sale. Hang in there and keep asking around for prices.

Bought a Pilot EX-L 2WD from Richards Honda in Baton Rouge. Final Price was 28,936. Internet Sales guy was David Hill, and he was straight forward and great to deal with. Actually got a better deal $28,800 from Team Honda dealing with Jeff Young, who was also a great guy to deal with, but Richards was giving $1,000 more for my trade. Both prices include everything except TTL.
    Hope this helps someone.

I've been obtaining quotes in the Twin Cities area and many of them are similar to what I've read on the past few pages when you include the destination charge (MSRP on a EX-L w/Nav is actually $36040 if you add that). With destination charges my quotes have been right at or just about $32k which is significantly lower than Edmund's TMV.

All of my quotes are good until the end of December and one of the dealers suggested the Pilot would have a price increase on Jan 1st. I was wondering if anyone knew about that or if there was news about the size of the increase, etc.

I was also wondering more generally if there's anytime early in 2007 when Honda would be offer incentives on the Pilot. Given that it's a popular car I wasn't sure if that was the case, but do they generally offer incentives early in 2007 to start moving the new cars?
  • hondaguy67hondaguy67 Member Posts: 66
The problem is that a dealer cannot give you a "set" amount for a trade without ever looking at it. that is not fair of you to ask a dealer to do that. Would you give a "set" price if you were buying a used car form someone without ever seeing their car????

I doubt you would. Anyway the best you can ask for is a range of prices they will give you. But you must be honest with them about the condition of your car. If you show up and your car is not exactly what you said it is there will be issues.

    good luck to you,.

and no there are no incentives on the 07 Pilots
  • hondaguy67hondaguy67 Member Posts: 66
Out of curiousity did you tell the dealer your trade was about to blow a headgasket?
  • miles267miles267 Member Posts: 10
Thanks. I intend to be forthcoming w/ info by taking detailed digital photos and documenting condition of vehicle and providing info via e-mail. To your point, not fair to expect a blind estimate however I do think it's fair to ask given the level of detail I intend to provide.

Also when is next round of Honda financing (purchase, not lease) due to be released?
  • justaveragejoejustaveragejoe Member Posts: 268
I did not present "my opinions" regarding the status of any component of the vehicle. They performed a complete and thorough inspection (test drive, checked all accessories, etc) and provided me their evaluation along with their offer.

I would not expect any dealer to stand by any offer prior to them physically inspecting the car. Would you buy a used car without inspecting it first?

    For everyone's edification, I am looking at a 2007 Pilot 4WD EX-L for $29700, naturally before TT&L.

Any thoughts? Will be closing the deal soon.

It looks like Honda is offering Cash to Dealer incentives for 2WD Pilots. Check www.carsdirect.com. All 2WD's are $500 under invoice.

I didn't get the leather but had a quote of $28,540 for one.

Thanks to info. from this forum, I was able to purchase a 2007 Pilot EX-L AWD with Navigation (Silver) for $31,000 this week in Westchester County, New York. That's ~$1,500 below invoice.

    MSRP (including destination) -- $36,040
    Invoice (including destination) -- $32,507
    Price Paid (before TT&L) -- $31,000
    Out-the-door price (includes $10 inspection fee, $12.50 tire fee, $2286.25 NY sales tax, $189.50 license/title (estimated), and $45 documentation fee) -- $33,543.25

Best price other dealers I called (I spoke with Internet sales managers at 5-6 dealers) in Westchester and metro NYC area were offering was $500 under invoice ($32,000). Purchased from New Rochelle Honda.

  • aspesisteveaspesisteve Member Posts: 833
You guys are pointing out why negotiating a sale price including trade over the phone can be a waste of time.

Setting the price on the trade and determining the condition, unseen, is so subjective that it gives the dealer the chance to pull the rug out from under you after you drive into his lot.

to be fair, some people think their trade is worth allot more than it really is.

make sure you get a price without trade so you can have something solid to hang on to.
  • justaveragejoejustaveragejoe Member Posts: 268
I totally agree that you need to get the price for the vehicle without any associated trade-in. The trade value should be evaluated separately and is very subjective and a number of methods have been mentioned here. The only value that a Carmax offer has is that it sets the bottom since you know you can already get that amount.

But that bottom could be pretty low.

    Hello sir,
just got a good offer of $24625[includes destination fees of $595,does anyone think its a good deal,i would rather go ahead and make a deal, what do you think for a 4WD LX...guessing is it the best in chicago land????
  • justaveragejoejustaveragejoe Member Posts: 268
That is $150 better than my lowest quote here in N Calfornia.
  • jbvjbv Member Posts: 8
    Hello sir,
thanks a lot for replying, and we appreciate it.the deal seems to be good and your statement can be considered tightening the screw ,is it!! or do we have to re - evaluate.just kidding, you think we should go ahead with the offer?? please reply, thanks.
  • justaveragejoejustaveragejoe Member Posts: 268
I think you have a pretty good deal in hand. Ask them to give you an out-the-door price to ensure they don't have any surprises and ask if they will include for that price any extras (cargo mat, splash guards) that you may want.
  • sysadmin1sysadmin1 Member Posts: 122
I am in Manchester NH and this dealer is right down the street.

You indicated that you have an interest in a 2007 Honda Pilot EX-L with navigation in the color of Nimbus Grey(stock# A570145). This vehicle has an MSRP of $36,040.00 and an internet sales price of $33,007.00 *.

I think Ive read that some are getting this NAD model for less, but if they hold to that is it a good price or can they go lower?

Currently have an 04 EX-L and love it, but time for a new one and bought it at the same dealer, think they would go lower with owner loyalty type thing?

    Thanks

    Got a 2007 Honda Pilot EX-L 4WD w/ Nav for $31,950 OTD. Doesn't get any better than that :)
  • davescharfdavescharf Member Posts: 5
I have an offer until the end of the month for $32100 including destination charge. I have a couple others as well right @ the $32,500 invoice.

Not sure if we're buying this, a Highlander or possibly even a Murano but we're thinking it's a great deal if you compare it to Edmunds TMV for the Twin Cities. I don't know what they'll offer yet for our trade so we'll have to go from there.
  • stlsiennabuyerstlsiennabuyer Member Posts: 4
Regarding mile267's "OTD" price of $31,950 - do you mean out-the-door (including sales taxes, title, etc.) or bottom-line dealer price including the destination fee?
  • miles267miles267 Member Posts: 10
$31,950 includes destination and doc fees. Excludes TT&L since they're typically not included in an OTD dealer price anyway.
  • beeknownbeeknown Member Posts: 4
I am located in the San Francisco Bay Area. Best quotes I am getting as of today for 07' Pilot 4wd EX-L w/NAV.
    MSRP $36040 includes destination
    Invoice $32507 includes destination
OTD $34,000 - $34,450 ( different dealers) These prices includes tax, lic and destination fees.
  • mattchalmersmattchalmers Member Posts: 159
This is one of the ways that people get mis-informed. OTD for the purpose of these message boards should always include ALL costs. Each person that posts on here should include all information: base price (including destination), trade in, accessories, fees, and TTL.

Please, anyone who is posting here, post all pertinent information, all information or none. People use this board to negotiate and set expectations, we all owe it to each other to honest and complete.

Curious as to the other dealers you went to see. In the market for EX-L no nav or dvd but with leather.

    All,
Just pleased to say that we just drove home happy with our new Pilot, once again from RELIANCE HONDA in Lake Jackson (30mi south of Houston), this is our 2nd one this year after we totaled our first one.

We paid a driveout price of $29900 including all fees etc..
Again the customer service was just AWESOME just as the first time. I strongly recommend this dealership and their humble way to do business.

Don't forget to mention my name if you end up working with them.

    regards,
    Miguel

Are there any manufacturer to dealer incentives on the 2007 Pilots. Why are they selling then about 3K lower than MSRP. What is a good price for a std 2007 Pilot LX 4WD.
  • kmh2468kmh2468 Member Posts: 62
Hi - last week I purchased an 07 LX 2WD at Gunn Honda in San Antonio, TX for a sale price of $22,987.

According to Edmunds.com that's $2,016 BELOW invoice. I was originally looking at a new CR-V but when I saw that price I couldn't resist. I do give up a some MPG but we now have more room and the V6 power we're accustomed to coming from a Lexus RX.

    The dealership is a no-haggle, one-price shop.

Tonight I purchased 07'Pilot 4wd EX-L w/NAV from one of Roger Penski dealerships in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Internet Manager told me that Penski owns 300 dealerships nationwide...do you think he is making his incentive quotas???

    Sales Price $31,200.00
    OTD Price $34,097.46

    Tax $2577.71(@ 8.25), DMV 274.75, Doc fees $45

I feel I got a good price but to be honest I think I could even got them to go lower. Good luck hope this helps everyone.

Forgot to mention in the previous posting that the car had only 3 miles on it at the time of purchase AND A FULL TANK OF GAS ($50 value here in California)
  • mrdeeno3mrdeeno3 Member Posts: 9
I think I got ripped off!!! My out-the-door price for 07 4WD EXL went to $34500 -- and that's no DVD and no NAV. MSRP was 33800, and since Edmunds says Invoice $29935, with tax alone (7%), new plates, etching, and dest fee, I thought it would to a bit less than $33100. So I thought, out-the-door of 34600 (with viper) is a good deal. I don't have the car yet, it's supposed to be delivered tomorrow. Do you think I can still cancel my order? :-) I hope your $34450 with NAV is available in NJ.

I am in the s.e. Va./n.e N.C. area and I'm looking for an '07 2wd EX-L. Is $28,000 (incl. dest.) a good starting point?? Carsdirect.com has the target price at $27,776!! Thanks for any advice.
