damn. 17 in the G37 is pretty harsh, too.

Believe it or not, I'm a leadfoot, too. I am typically the jerk darting through traffic and getting to the front at every light to leave everyone behind. ;)

But, even with that, I used to get 25 mpg in my 350z, and now the aforementioned 29 in the Accord 6-speed. I do spend 70% of my time on the highway, though. And even when around town, my goal is to get to high gear as fast as possible. I take the "foot to the floor and short shift" approach.

We used to get 20-21 mpg in our AWD Pilot, by the way.

Yes I am anticipating that also. I will still likely Lease. The way I see it, I can lease an EX-L for less than 400 a month all in.
If I buy, I would have switch to a VP model , would have to put down 2000 to get the payments around 425 a month or so. Hard to do much better.
To buy the EX-L would be too much per month to feel happy about it. I would end up thinking of what I could be driving had I leased something for 500+ a month!
Still I have to deal with my trade.. I'll post here when the deal gets done.

Nothing wrong with leasing and letting the bank take all the future value risk - and with the current file sale deals the future value will be low. I mean, folks are paying $22-23k for a 2WD VP and the residual on the lease is like $14k or something.

When I ran the lease/buy VS buy it comes out "OK" even with the $3,500 dealer money. I used the current Capital One rates for the used and new loans. If your credit union, for example, has a much lower used car / lease buy out rate then the gap narrows. Of course, if AHFC comes out with a cheap finance deal AND the dealer gets the $3,500 both then the gap could widen out a lot.

The current lease deals run through 3/3 or so, but they could end them early if they want to. If leasing for sure I would be in more of a hurry than if buying, worrying it that someone at AHFC will put the stop to the < 1% MF leases.

This was in an e-mail I just received from a local Honda dealer:

    2.9%*APR. Financing

*24-60 month With Super preferred rate approval through AHFC for qualified buyers with approved credit. Offer ends 02-24-08. *2.9% APR available on 08 Civics,S2000,Odyssey,Pilot and Ridgelines.

It does not disclose if this is available in combination with any dealer incentives or not - and this dealer would not want you to know there is $3,500 on Pilots :D .

So if I were going to BUY a Pilot and FINANCE the Pilot I would for sure be giving my favorite deep discount dealer a ring and seeing what kind of price they can offer along with the finance deal.

I'm going to sign off on this deal Saturday at a dealership in South Carolina.

2008 FWD EX-L Pilot with DVD
    $27023.50 OTD
+3639.37 (rolled over lease payments) = 30662.87 financed
    $0 Down
    2.9% APR for 60 mos.
    $549.12 per month

Does this sound like a good deal?
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
Except for those rolled over lease payments, what is up with that? The negative equity you added back to the kill wipes out all the savings from the dealer money.

You would likely be a lot better off to keep in your current lease until it is over , or try to find a buyer (retail or wholesale) for your current ride. I would never want to roll that much negative (or any, for that matter) onto a new deal. For sure in this case where your new car is not likely to hold value well - you will be upside down on this deal for a long time.

This is what I found on one dealers site. Interesting it just says, Dealer sets actual price, and the timing of 211-2/18 seems strange...

*Special AHFC A.P.R. financing available on all new 2007 Honda Models & 2008 Civic and Pilot Models. 1.9% APR financing for 24-36 months and 2.9% APR financing for 37-60 months available to customers who qualify for the AHFC Super Preferred credit tier. Dealers set actual vehicle sales prices. See participating dealers for details. For well qualified buyers. Not all buyers may qualify. Higher rates apply for buyers with lower credit ratings. Offer valid 02/11/2008 through 02/18/2008.

My local dealer wants to sell me a Pilot VP 2WD for $3100 under invoice. When I mentioned other dealers were selling for less, he said he would match the best deal I could find. I've emailed Gwinnett Place in Atlanta.

Where have you been able to get the $4000 below invoice deals and who did you work with?

    Thanks,
    Bill

Spoke with local dealer who said he did some research and does not have anything on the 2.9% Finance deal. Only the Element has a finance special.

Anyone actually get this offered on paper?
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
It was all over the local ads on TV last night and I got an e-mail from another local dealer offering the rate. So I know it exists, but I assume it is a regional deal.

I checked the Honda web page current offers here and they do not show anything (yet) for my ZIP code or others I tried.

Honda never has rebates and hates dealers selling cars way under invoice (cheapens the brand and hurts resale), so maybe there are just letting dealers buy down the loan rate by giving up some/all of the dealer money?

I e-mailed a couple of other Honda dealers to ask them about the rate and dealer incentive combo, but I have not heard back from them.

  • piloti_stipiloti_sti Member Posts: 62
I even typed in the zip code of the dealer web page who is advertising this deal and it doesn't come up. So who knows, there seems to be a lot of confusion on this.

I will buy today if one of these dealers would get the scoop...lol
  • illini7illini7 Member Posts: 19
I checked with my Honda dealer in St. Louis and they do not know anything about a 2.9% APR offer on the '08 Pilots. I think unfortunately, it must be a regional offer. Take advantage!
  • steve98steve98 Member Posts: 18
Price of Pilot is around $21,500, 3% NC tax, $299 doc and $70 tags and OTD is $22,500. Also getting the 2.9 APR for 60 months. I could have saved couple hundred dollars but I'm buying from same dealer that I bought my Ridgeline from and I know they dont play any games.

This will be the wife's 40th birthday present!

Deals are out there to be had, I called couple other dealers and they would do $22,300 OTD and couple others emailed me they could. I'm happy with the deal I got!

I worked with Marco at Gwinnett Place Honda. Make sure to let him know Rodger sent you! He'll know who I am. BTW listen to your engine carefully when you do a test drive. I did and after around 50 miles, I heard a shifting around the timing belt when idling. Apparently some 2008 Pilots are having a bit of trouble with misaligned water pumps. This was an issue with the 2002 Pilots and they did a TSB recall to correct them.

I was not the only customer who had this problem. They had a guy who works in their detail shop who had the same issue. They are replacing his timing belt / water pump as well.

I'm not all that happy in having to do this for a vehicle with under 500 miles, but I am impressed with their service department. They've given me a free tank of gas / a choice of any rental I wanted / and generally kept me updated.

I have been offered $27,010 for a 2008 SE AWD Pilot + tax + dmv. I have also been offered 2.9% finance (excellent credit).

Is this a good deal? The price already has subtracted the $3,500 dealer incentive.

I also am considering, for $28,862 the 2008 EX-L AWD Pilot+ tax + dmv. I have also been offered the 2.9% finance on this deal too.

I have not "counter offered" yet. Still waiting for three other quotes from other dealers to see if they would like to "sell a car" at a competitive price.

How good is this deal? What might be a "smart" counter offer on my part?
Thanks for the help in advance--great forum!!!

I received a quote for this 2008 Pilot EX-L (no navi or DVD) for $27,417. This dealer has TON of these cars and has priced it exactly $3500 below the stated invoice. I am going to try and see if I can get another dealer lower. Nice Price. Check your dealer inventory....if they have alot...offer $27,417. They still have hold back to bank on for profit.

Have not seen or heard of any special financing....but am waiting another week or so to see if it comes around.

    Good Luck

    Hello,

First let me say that this forum has been really helpful.

I am looking to buy a Honda Pilot 2008 EX-L. I asked quotes via edmnd to 3 dealerships and so far the lower I got was $25.3k (other 2 gave me $26.3k price).

Based on previous postings, apparently the price looks good,.However I called then inquiring about the 2.9% and none knew about it. I am in Texas.

Can you tell me which region are you getting this? Also, any thoughts about the price mentioned above? does this sounds a good deal?

I appreciate any feedback. Thinking to buy the car before month end. Could wait another month if have to.

    Thanks

I'm in Seattle; here's text from an email I got from a local dealer yesterday:

What is invoice including destination? Do your prices include the Pilot, destination, and any dealer "doc" or "prep" fees?

The Honda web page still does not show the cheap financing and I will where the dealers are advertising it. Nothing about it in Edmunds incentives either. It is pretty short live a "President's Day Sale" so they may just be letting the dealers advertise it. Since it has already started, if dealers in your area do not know about it then you do not get it.

Email me so you can get a referral credit

When some dealer offers me one of these, I always ask that they apply whatever they were going to give ME to the person buying/leasing from them. I don't expect a good dealer to have to pay me to refer customers to them, I will do it gladly. In fact, I would think getting paid to recommend a dealership or salesperson goes against the spirit of the online forums. But that is just me.

Why not pass along the savings to the next person rather than putting money in someone else's pocket?

Good advice. We plan to keep the Pilot for a while, even after it's paid off. Our lease is up in a year and by that time I doubt I'll be able to get such a good price and APR financing with the new model. So, it would probably end up being the same amount financed. Thanks for your thoughts.

Invoice is $29.7k including destination. I don't believe the preice they provided me ($26.3 or the $25.3k) includes any prep doc or dealer installed accessories. I have not gone to a dealership yet until find the right price and good finance rates.

    Still shopping.......
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
With the $3,500 dealer incentive you should be looking at $26,200 or less for the Pilot, destination, and dealer fees.

As you get your quotes from various dealers make sure they include destination and their dealer doc or prep fee - to avoid a surprise when you show up to buy the car for that price.

Has anyone in the Seattle area had any luck using the $3500 incentive in negotiating down the price of a 2008 Pilot? The invoice on the car is 32905 and the TMV is around 31192. Given the incentive I was expecting quotes closer to 27000 - 28000 but the lowest I've received is 30105.
  • og4lifeog4life Member Posts: 25
    I've been shopping for a couple of weeks and I am down to 26,100 + tax+ $10 for the 2WD EX-L.
  • adontechadontech Member Posts: 11
I purchased a new EX-L today in Ridgeland, MS, for $26151 + $179 doc fee + tax + title. They also gave me what I asked for on my trade. Total financed was $27000. I didn't check the forum before going to the dealership today so I only got 5.69% for 60 months. The first 'internet quote' I received from this dealership was $29600. Thanks to everyone for posting here.
  • og4lifeog4life Member Posts: 25
That is where I was going tomorow. You didnt get the last silver one did you?
  • faculafacula Member Posts: 3
I'm not in Seattle, but I was looking at the TMV too. I could be wrong, but it seems like the previous $1500 incentive is already reflected in the TMV, given that the difference between TMV and invoice is around $1600 or $1700. If that's the case then $2000 under the listed TMV would be the "true" TMV, which would be a little more consistent with your quote. That's not to say that you can't do even better, though.

I been quoted $22130 for VP 2WD and if do after market leather and rear DVD, comes out to about $26300. I also been quoted $27900 for red EX-L with leather and DVD. I don't care much for all the std. features on EX which is why I asked about leather/dvd install after market. Leather and DVD are the 2 upgrades I really want. Anyone got better quote on what I got for Pilot with leather and DVD? I hoping to buy it next week. I'm in the Portland, Oregon area. Thanks.

Patty Peck? No...my wife wanted the Pilot in black. Their online inventory showed it in stock, but when I got their it was a demo with 7k miles. We went with the Nimbus Gray. I would be curious if they offer you the 2.9% financing in addition to the invoice minus $3500.
  • og4lifeog4life Member Posts: 25
Yes. Patty Peck. I've talked to 4 dealerships and none of them knew about 2.9% financing in addition to $3500 off. One dealer in Atlanta stated I could 0% but give up the $3,500.
  • adontechadontech Member Posts: 11
I sent an email to my salesman asking him to investigate this as it would save me $35/month. Now I'll see if he is as eager to help me after the sale as he was prior to the sale.
  • piloti_stipiloti_sti Member Posts: 62
2.9 % is only select states, I imagine some/most dealers will be not including the cash on this unless the customer insists.

Went ahead and picked up my Pilot yesterday, Silver VP 2WD..love it so far.

I was looking around on-line after seeing this post and it seems like most dealers are offering these rates on pre-owned, Honda Certified vehicles...not new ones. I had posted previously that you can at least tell the dealer you were offered 4.99% and see if they match. Most will be willing to do so. I am heading in this afternoon to sit down and play a little hard ball myself. Hopefully I'll log back on tonight with a new VP AWD at a purchase price of right around $23,000 plus tax, title, etc... Cheers!

Edit: Just noticed that it was only for certain states. Thanks for the info piloti_sti! Do you think you could forward that e-mail to me actually? The address would be joey_trev at hotmail dot com. Thanks again for your help.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
Thanks for the info on the cheap money, it never has been posted on the Honda web page - and I guess they will not bother.

In the past, the buyer's state of residence is what mattered and not the location of the dealership. I wonder if that is true again in this case? The wording makes it sound like it is tied to the state of the dealership, but in the past this was the case as well.

I would bet that getting this rate means the dealer will not get the $3,500 in dealer money - or at least not all of it and so would not be able to offer the same smoking deal AND cheap financing....

Finally, congratulations on getting your new Pilot!

I havent closed yet but I have agreed in terms to 27,300 otd (including tax) for a 2WD EX-L in TN. I am also getting 100 percent financing at 2.9% for 60 months. I was told the rate is where the dealership resides, not the customer. Hope everything goes as plans tomorrow.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
Sounds hard to believe. Invoice is $29,651 then less the $3,500 incentive is $26,151. Less 2% hold back would be $25,497.40 then add 7% TN sales tax = $27,282.22. So your price would be the dealer making no doc or prep fee, no hold back and $17.78 profit. Unless you have a nice trade they can rip you off on, I don't see how or why they would do the deal :D .

I was offered a zero profit deal on an '08 VP from an out of town dealer.
What documents should I ask to have faxed to me to lock in this price before I drive 3 hours to pick it up? I'm really afraid of a bait and switch.

    Thanks,

    It's possible:

Honda Pilot VP (with destination & delivery)

    MSRP: $28230
    Dealer Holdback 2% = $565

    Invoice: $25631

    Price I Paid: $21270

    So: Dealer minimum price they paid: $25631 -$3500 -$565 = $21566.00

    $21270 - $21566 = -296 Money They Lost

Yes, I know about doc fees, but that was only $399. So even after that, they net only around $100.00.

The ONLY reason they did this deal is they NEED to sell cars. Look at the opportunity cost of the inventory sitting there. They have to maintain each and every one of them. It's cheaper to take a breakeven/ minimal loss on a Pilot, adjust and get more higher margin cars, like Accords.

I think the trick is to go to a high volume dealer. The biggest in your state. Do your research and you will be able to find this car right around $21,500. This would be unheard of a year ago.

By the way: I had trouble with the 1st pilot. Timing Belt sounded as if it was "shifting". Garage Manager listens to it, says he hears it too. They tried to change the timing belt/water pump. Same sound. Eventually, they said they just wanted to please me as a customer, so they gave me another pilot VP, 8 miles, same color, no timing belt issues. Switched the paperwork and off I went.

Keep in mind I had already put 300 miles on the other pilot. I am VERY impressed with Honda so far.

I've been following this forum for a few weeks now and have really appreciated learning about everyone's deals.

With the $3,500 dealer cash and 2.9% financing incentive, I've decided to buy rather than lease and have begun contacting dealers in my area (Charlotte, NC) for quotes.

Here's the best offer that I've received thus far for a VP FWD:

    MSRP - $28,190 (including destintation)
    Invoice - $25,746

    Dealer Price - $21,695 + $399 doc fee and 3% sales tax

It looks like the dealer is reducing the price by the $3,500 dealer cash and is $551 into the holdback.

The dealer indicated that the 2.9% rate is for the super preferred tier (Beacon score 710/715+) and that the 3.9% rate is for the preferred tier, but he didn't indicate the FICO range. These rates are available with $0 down.

    Dennis,

You overlooked the fact I am from MS. i.e. 5% sales tax. Here are the numbers:

    $25,566.95 - Price of car
5.00 Title or inspeciton fee (who cares)
5.50 - drive out tag, again who cares
77.50 - TN Business tax - Salesman says have to charge it
    $349.00 - Doc Fee
    $1,296.00 - State of MS Tax (5%)

    $27,300 OTD TOTAL

Salesman and Manager confirmed that I was getting 2.9 percent for 60 months and confirmed my payment of 489.33 for 60 months. I'm been shopping for a week and I'm done. I'm not too far into their holdback but special financing not availalbe in MS or any other state that is close to me. I might be pulling the trigger to early but I'm happy with the deal. Just wish I didn't have to drive 4 1/2 hours to get it. Thanks for all your info. I'm $750 cheaper than my first deal and now it got 2.9% on top of that.

I got this price emailed to me from a dealer in Charlotte but didnt buy from them.

    $21,230.00 Selling Price
    $ 636.90 NC Tax
    $ 68.00 NC New Tag
    $ 399.70 Doc Fee
    $22,334.60 Out the door price

Call or email the Internet Sales Manager at all dealers there in Charlotte and tell them you are ready to buy and want this price. It will save you around $500.

    Thanks Dennis.

Took me long enough, and I am happy with the deal, was getting tired of shopping the deals around. I actually was set on waiting for the new '09 but was so underwhelmed by the prototype I had to get a '08! The VP's are really selling in my area. The 3 dealers I dealt with all had about 2-3 instock which made it a bit more difficult.
