Believe it or not, I'm a leadfoot, too. I am typically the jerk darting through traffic and getting to the front at every light to leave everyone behind.
But, even with that, I used to get 25 mpg in my 350z, and now the aforementioned 29 in the Accord 6-speed. I do spend 70% of my time on the highway, though. And even when around town, my goal is to get to high gear as fast as possible. I take the "foot to the floor and short shift" approach.
We used to get 20-21 mpg in our AWD Pilot, by the way.

If I buy, I would have switch to a VP model , would have to put down 2000 to get the payments around 425 a month or so. Hard to do much better.
To buy the EX-L would be too much per month to feel happy about it. I would end up thinking of what I could be driving had I leased something for 500+ a month!
Still I have to deal with my trade.. I'll post here when the deal gets done.
When I ran the lease/buy VS buy it comes out "OK" even with the $3,500 dealer money. I used the current Capital One rates for the used and new loans. If your credit union, for example, has a much lower used car / lease buy out rate then the gap narrows. Of course, if AHFC comes out with a cheap finance deal AND the dealer gets the $3,500 both then the gap could widen out a lot.
The current lease deals run through 3/3 or so, but they could end them early if they want to. If leasing for sure I would be in more of a hurry than if buying, worrying it that someone at AHFC will put the stop to the < 1% MF leases.

2.9%*APR. Financing
*24-60 month With Super preferred rate approval through AHFC for qualified buyers with approved credit. Offer ends 02-24-08. *2.9% APR available on 08 Civics,S2000,Odyssey,Pilot and Ridgelines.
It does not disclose if this is available in combination with any dealer incentives or not - and this dealer would not want you to know there is $3,500 on Pilots
So if I were going to BUY a Pilot and FINANCE the Pilot I would for sure be giving my favorite deep discount dealer a ring and seeing what kind of price they can offer along with the finance deal.

Does this sound like a good deal?
You would likely be a lot better off to keep in your current lease until it is over , or try to find a buyer (retail or wholesale) for your current ride. I would never want to roll that much negative (or any, for that matter) onto a new deal. For sure in this case where your new car is not likely to hold value well - you will be upside down on this deal for a long time.

Where have you been able to get the $4000 below invoice deals and who did you work with?
Thanks,
Bill
Anyone actually get this offered on paper?
I checked the Honda web page current offers here and they do not show anything (yet) for my ZIP code or others I tried.
Honda never has rebates and hates dealers selling cars way under invoice (cheapens the brand and hurts resale), so maybe there are just letting dealers buy down the loan rate by giving up some/all of the dealer money?
I e-mailed a couple of other Honda dealers to ask them about the rate and dealer incentive combo, but I have not heard back from them.
Dennis
I will buy today if one of these dealers would get the scoop...lol
This will be the wife's 40th birthday present!
Deals are out there to be had, I called couple other dealers and they would do $22,300 OTD and couple others emailed me they could. I'm happy with the deal I got!
I'm in touch with Marco at Gwennett and he wants to know your name.
Email me so you can get a referal credit.
Thanks,
Bill
I was not the only customer who had this problem. They had a guy who works in their detail shop who had the same issue. They are replacing his timing belt / water pump as well.
I'm not all that happy in having to do this for a vehicle with under 500 miles, but I am impressed with their service department. They've given me a free tank of gas / a choice of any rental I wanted / and generally kept me updated.
What is your e-mail, and I'll send it to you.
Congrats to those of you who can get this!!
Is this a good deal? The price already has subtracted the $3,500 dealer incentive.
I also am considering, for $28,862 the 2008 EX-L AWD Pilot+ tax + dmv. I have also been offered the 2.9% finance on this deal too.
I have not "counter offered" yet. Still waiting for three other quotes from other dealers to see if they would like to "sell a car" at a competitive price.
How good is this deal? What might be a "smart" counter offer on my part?
Thanks for the help in advance--great forum!!!

Have not seen or heard of any special financing....but am waiting another week or so to see if it comes around.
Good Luck
First let me say that this forum has been really helpful.
I am looking to buy a Honda Pilot 2008 EX-L. I asked quotes via edmnd to 3 dealerships and so far the lower I got was $25.3k (other 2 gave me $26.3k price).
Based on previous postings, apparently the price looks good,.However I called then inquiring about the 2.9% and none knew about it. I am in Texas.
Can you tell me which region are you getting this? Also, any thoughts about the price mentioned above? does this sounds a good deal?
I appreciate any feedback. Thinking to buy the car before month end. Could wait another month if have to.
Thanks

The Honda web page still does not show the cheap financing and I will where the dealers are advertising it. Nothing about it in Edmunds incentives either. It is pretty short live a "President's Day Sale" so they may just be letting the dealers advertise it. Since it has already started, if dealers in your area do not know about it then you do not get it.

When some dealer offers me one of these, I always ask that they apply whatever they were going to give ME to the person buying/leasing from them. I don't expect a good dealer to have to pay me to refer customers to them, I will do it gladly. In fact, I would think getting paid to recommend a dealership or salesperson goes against the spirit of the online forums. But that is just me.
Why not pass along the savings to the next person rather than putting money in someone else's pocket?
Dennis
Still shopping.......
As you get your quotes from various dealers make sure they include destination and their dealer doc or prep fee - to avoid a surprise when you show up to buy the car for that price.

Went ahead and picked up my Pilot yesterday, Silver VP 2WD..love it so far.

Edit: Just noticed that it was only for certain states. Thanks for the info piloti_sti! Do you think you could forward that e-mail to me actually? The address would be joey_trev at hotmail dot com. Thanks again for your help.
In the past, the buyer's state of residence is what mattered and not the location of the dealership. I wonder if that is true again in this case? The wording makes it sound like it is tied to the state of the dealership, but in the past this was the case as well.
I would bet that getting this rate means the dealer will not get the $3,500 in dealer money - or at least not all of it and so would not be able to offer the same smoking deal AND cheap financing....
Finally, congratulations on getting your new Pilot!

What documents should I ask to have faxed to me to lock in this price before I drive 3 hours to pick it up? I'm really afraid of a bait and switch.
Thanks,
Bill
Honda Pilot VP (with destination & delivery)
MSRP: $28230
Dealer Holdback 2% = $565
Invoice: $25631
Price I Paid: $21270
So: Dealer minimum price they paid: $25631 -$3500 -$565 = $21566.00
$21270 - $21566 = -296 Money They Lost
Yes, I know about doc fees, but that was only $399. So even after that, they net only around $100.00.
The ONLY reason they did this deal is they NEED to sell cars. Look at the opportunity cost of the inventory sitting there. They have to maintain each and every one of them. It's cheaper to take a breakeven/ minimal loss on a Pilot, adjust and get more higher margin cars, like Accords.
I think the trick is to go to a high volume dealer. The biggest in your state. Do your research and you will be able to find this car right around $21,500. This would be unheard of a year ago.
By the way: I had trouble with the 1st pilot. Timing Belt sounded as if it was "shifting". Garage Manager listens to it, says he hears it too. They tried to change the timing belt/water pump. Same sound. Eventually, they said they just wanted to please me as a customer, so they gave me another pilot VP, 8 miles, same color, no timing belt issues. Switched the paperwork and off I went.
Keep in mind I had already put 300 miles on the other pilot. I am VERY impressed with Honda so far.
With the $3,500 dealer cash and 2.9% financing incentive, I've decided to buy rather than lease and have begun contacting dealers in my area (Charlotte, NC) for quotes.
Here's the best offer that I've received thus far for a VP FWD:
MSRP - $28,190 (including destintation)
Invoice - $25,746
Dealer Price - $21,695 + $399 doc fee and 3% sales tax
It looks like the dealer is reducing the price by the $3,500 dealer cash and is $551 into the holdback.
The dealer indicated that the 2.9% rate is for the super preferred tier (Beacon score 710/715+) and that the 3.9% rate is for the preferred tier, but he didn't indicate the FICO range. These rates are available with $0 down.
You overlooked the fact I am from MS. i.e. 5% sales tax. Here are the numbers:
$25,566.95 - Price of car
5.00 Title or inspeciton fee (who cares)
5.50 - drive out tag, again who cares
77.50 - TN Business tax - Salesman says have to charge it
$349.00 - Doc Fee
$1,296.00 - State of MS Tax (5%)
$27,300 OTD TOTAL
Salesman and Manager confirmed that I was getting 2.9 percent for 60 months and confirmed my payment of 489.33 for 60 months. I'm been shopping for a week and I'm done. I'm not too far into their holdback but special financing not availalbe in MS or any other state that is close to me. I might be pulling the trigger to early but I'm happy with the deal. Just wish I didn't have to drive 4 1/2 hours to get it. Thanks for all your info. I'm $750 cheaper than my first deal and now it got 2.9% on top of that.
$21,230.00 Selling Price
$ 636.90 NC Tax
$ 68.00 NC New Tag
$ 399.70 Doc Fee
$22,334.60 Out the door price
Call or email the Internet Sales Manager at all dealers there in Charlotte and tell them you are ready to buy and want this price. It will save you around $500.
Took me long enough, and I am happy with the deal, was getting tired of shopping the deals around. I actually was set on waiting for the new '09 but was so underwhelmed by the prototype I had to get a '08! The VP's are really selling in my area. The 3 dealers I dealt with all had about 2-3 instock which made it a bit more difficult.
