I'm in Oregon. We stopped by a local Honda dealer for a friend to buy Pilot. We were told the 2.9% promo ended last Monday 2/18 by Honda Financial. Anyone have more info on this special promo - any link you can forward me so I can show my dealer the promo is still valid?
  • frankmaxfrankmax Member Posts: 18
    FYI. I paid $26600 + TTL.

Thanks for your 2 cents! :)

Just to clarify, we are talking to 3 different dealers. Dealer A is where we got the runaround for a demo. dealer B also has a demo. Dealer B has been straightforward. Just not sure how to get them to negotiate. Also, how to handle the finance manager. Dealer B also has a good price on new and has good price on new EXL 4wd without nav.

Dealer C has the best price so far on the new Pilot EXL 4wd with nav. Says not willing to negotiate.

I want the nav system for the back up camera. Anyone have an aftermarket camera installed?

Can't decide about the nav. Very tempting because of the back up camera.

Any advice on how to approach the finance manager and negotiation process?

    Thanks.

I pulled the trigger on a VP AWD. Price, including destination came out to $22,390 (not including $299 doc fee, + reg + tax). Did a little bit of haggling. Got 2.9% APR for 60 months. The purchase experience was average. This forum help me a lot in purchasing. Thanks for everyone who posted here.

The promo is still valid and ending on 2/24. I just got the promo deal today myseIf. I saw the bulletin news at the dealer about the promo.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Well, it would help if you used the dealer names rather than A,B, and C. I'm in Columbus and know many stores around the state either by reputation or through personal experience.

I have to retract my previous comment about the Pilot nav system because I didn't realize it now includes the backup camera. It about time - my '05 Odyssey R&N has the camera but my wife's doesn't.

Suggest that you decide which model you want and then email 10 or so dealers asking for their best price. Indicate that you will be buying immediately. It should not be hard to find an invoice less incentive deal. As for your trade, the response you got on the other thread is right on the money.

I'm really trying to purchase a Pilot before the $3500 incentive ends. I got this quote for a EX-L w/RES 2WD

    Internet Price: $27,529.00
    Total OTD Price: $30,115.43

    Can I do better?

Yes, you can! Check previous posts, the number you were given is a few hundred dollars less than what others are paying for a 4WD. You should be able to get the price down another $1200 or so on the 2WD. Just use the Edmond's invoice minus $3500. For now that should be a good figure that is not difficult to get.
  • turtle3550turtle3550 Member Posts: 7
Another $1200! Wow! I'll see if I can get the price down.

Could anyone recommend me a Dealer and Internet Manager in the Bay Area?

    Thanks a lot!

Purchased 2008 EX-L AWD today with no trade-in, here's the price breakdown:

    Price - $26,977
    TTL - $1123
    OTD - $28,100

Also got the 2.9 financing. Thanks to everyone posting pricing info in this forum it makes it much easier to know you are getting a fair deal.

I just got an email from Stevens Creek Honda indicating $6500 off of MSRP on all Pilots in stock. That pretty much translates into $3500 below invoice for most models. You can try them. Also, A couple of months ago I bought my Accord from Grace Honda in San Bruno. You can check them out at www.grace-honda.com and ask the internet sales manager for a quote. tell him you talked to me and I think he'll go straight to his best price. If they don't have your exact model/color, although a little drive from the Bay area, you can try Lodi Honda (in Lodi, of course!), I bought my Pilot from them over a year ago at the same savings as being offered these days. You shouldn't have a problem getting a great deal on an 08 Pilot these days so be patient and get the best deal. Good luck!

    Carg,

I have started discussions with Boch on the same model of Pilot.

Were you able to get to this price through email only? I am getting the "can't authorize that low without Sales Manager approval" right now. I am hoping to cut through the BS via email first.

Thanks in advance for any guidance on this.

Does anyone know when the special financing on the Pilots ends?

    thanks!
  • summertime2summertime2 Member Posts: 2
We were offered a price of a $28,631 on a Pilot with the entertainment package. This includes destination fee - the only additional costs are tax and registration. Is this considered a good price?

The cheap 2.9% financing is regional - just certain states - and may not end at the same time everywhere. That said, ours ended here yesterday (Sunday).

Hi. Are you saying they gave you the floor mats / cargo cover for free? Or just install them for free?
  • codrivercodriver Member Posts: 21
I think quotes in the neighborhood of mid 28K are considered good price. Do you mind telling what state the dealer is in? I am looking for the same car.

    Thanks.

I bought mine from Larry Hopkins Honda in Sunnyvale. The guy I worked with is Habib. Very nice guy. I got the lowest price from him.

    Good luck!

Yours is an excellent example of why late model Hondas are poor used car values. When you can buy new for slightly more, it makes no sense (or cents) to buy used.
  • jroyhondajroyhonda Member Posts: 3
Before settling with Boch check out Herb Chambers Boston. I deal with Howie Reske, sales manager there. We just picked up a Pilot and bought my second Accord from there in August. I call there and get a quote from him

Get the quote from Boch. He will beat it. Let me know how you make out.

Does Pilot feels like driving a SUV/truck or like a car or something in between? How its handling at turning the cornors?

    Those are terrible deals....

For just $1000 more, you can buy a brand-new 2008 model.. Maybe not from that dealer... you might have to shop around..

Feedback needed... I have been shopping around and this is the best offer I received for a 08 Pilot EX-L 4WD Nav Black w/gray leather. Is this a good deal?

    Price - $27,770
    Destination Fee - $635
    Document Fee - $150
    Transfer Plates - $80
    Sales Tax (6.75%) - $1,917
    OTD - $30,402

Unfortunately IL (Chicago Area) does not have the 2.9% promo. I was pre-approved through my bank at 5.55% for 60 months. Are there better new car rates?

    I'm interested in buying a 2006 EX-L Pilot. My local dealer currently has two in stock, both under the suggested retail price listed on Edmunds. The price breakdown is;

    1) Has everything. 42,656 miles
    Trade-In: $19,150
    Private Party Value: $22,760
    Retail Value: $26,575

The dealer is asking $26,000 and they just got it in last week.

    2) Again, has everything, w/ 16,800 miles.
    Trade-In: $22,375
    Private Party Value: $25,985
    Retail Value: $29,800

The deal first asked, $29,000 for it, about three weeks ago they dropped the price to $28,000 and over the weekend, dropped it again to $27,000.

Here's my question, I visited the dealer a few weeks ago and offered $23,000 for the Pilot with 16,800 miles. The dealer has had it since just before Christmas, they purchased it at a car auction, and the only work done on it (it's Honda certified) was a change of the fluids.

Given the offers they've been giving on the new Pilots, is my (cash) offer of $23,000 for either Pilot too low or should I go lower/higher? I've never purchased a used vehicle before so I'm not quite sure what value (trade-in, private party, or SRV) I should be working from.

    Any advice is much appreciated!
  • turtle3550turtle3550 Member Posts: 7
    Well, I got it down to $29,900 OTD for a new EX-L 2WD w/RES

All the other dealers seem like they don't have any interest in beating this price. Will be buying this Friday hopefully!
  • carsandgarscarsandgars Member Posts: 3
There are no special rates except for on Elements right now. Plenty of lease specials but only one rate offer. You can confirm this by going to Honda.com. Because rates have came down some recently the dealer can buy the rate down using part of the discount they should have gave you. This is a often use scam that many dealers use to get you in the door. Sure they can get the rate, but at what selling price? To avoid these scams you have to talk with a reputable dealer. I recommend Mike Patton Honda out of Georgia. They give a low price without having to haggle for it. At least you can get the truth by talking with them.

    What dealership?
  • wyyangwyyang Member Posts: 29
Right now the best quote I have from a local dealer is $27350 + TTL for 4WD EXL, without the 2.9% APR. I am a little bit frustrated that 1. It seems quite a few people are getting the same car for $26400-26800. But my local dealers won't give me anything close. They refused my offer of $27000+TTL. I was told "I think that you could already be driving the Pilot...we are being very fair with our deal and it won't change". The next best offer is $27517.04. 2. The 2.9% APR is gone and no one knows if it will be back....

Not sure why this is so difficult. And I've checked their stock status online. If that's up to date, they are NOT moving lots of Pilots.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
What's so difficult? You've established the local market price for the vehicle. It's really very simple - either pay the price or go elsewhere.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
Invoice on a 4wd EX-L is $30,917 less the $3,500 dealer incentive is $27,417 - the dealer is offering your the Pilot for $27,350 for the Pilot, destination, and dealer fee? If so, go get your Pilot - you are down into hold back on the deal - what else do you want? There is $681.60 hold back on this model and you are getting $67 of it. Sure, they make a little over $600 but they DO need to make some profit :D .

If you take invoice less incentive less 100% of hold back you get $26,465.40 so without a trade or a large dealer fee on top of the price the numbers you state you want to get may be about impossible.

I guess you can stop trying to pound that round peg into the square hole - they just are not going to deal like you want them to - and you may not find another dealer willing to deal any lower either.

My wife and I had to drive 3 1/2 hours (each way) to get a decent deal - none of the local dealers would touch the offer we got for a better dealer. The trip was not bad and we got some together time, but it was made sweeter by the nearly $1,200 we saved :D .

Use the dealer locator and start finding a dealer who WILL deal like you want - but I think in the end the effort expended to find a dealer who will save you a little money on the deal and the travel to/from that dealer will make you think you should have just taken this dealer's into hold back offer.

That's where I get confused. I can not find any other post about a real quote/buying experience in the Pittsburgh area, while almost all other posts about the same model are below $27000 (pzw78451,$26417.04+TTL; bigpapashoe, $26,977+TTL ;sachint, $26101+635(dest)+dmv+tax, dbair, $26,698 + tax & license) , or one step up (with RES or NAV) for several hundreds to a little over a thousand more (gkycia, $27,600, includes destination fee, EXL 4WD with NAV. This is only $250 more than mine. The NAV option is invoiced at $1988) . And I was not shooting for the best deal seen in this forum . But anyway, thanks for the response. I guess if I have to pay $932.96+tax more, I pay $932.96+tax more.

We went looking at the Pilot last night and are seriously considering getting one. We are looking for a 08 EXL, sans nav and dvd. I would like to get it at $25, but think at this point $26 is probably more realistic. Anyone know of a good dealer to deal with around here? I am willing to drive up to 200 miles if the deal is right.
Also, I am inclined to think that the incentives are going to be there as long as there are 08s around. I am thinking about waiting until after March 3rd to see if the incentives are better. Thoughts?
    Thanks
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Well, don't believe everything that you read on these boards. Some posters don't reveal everything about their deals, e.g., trade-in number and dealer fees, that can have a profound affect on price.
  • fiufiu Member Posts: 25
Is this quote for 2WD or 4WD?
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
I would like to get it at $25, but think at this point $26 is probably more realistic

As I just posted, take the invoice shown on the web less the $3,500 incentive and you should have a good price. Figure the hold back (2% of MSRP) and you can figure the bottom line, dealer makes nothing (in theory) price. I think you will find that $25k is not a number you can get without having a trade in or paying a big dealer fee. $26k even is not a number you can get either - if you are talking about a 4wd EX-L Pilot.

We don't know what will happen, but $3,500 is about as high an incentive as the Pilot had ever carried - but it could go to $4k or more - we just don't know. As the incentive goes up sales go up and choice and selection go down. If you shopped a dealer now with 6 EX-L models in a variety of colors you might could get a better deal than in a few weeks when the have only 2 left. You just don't know.

BTW I would like to be 25 again and a millionaire, but I think being who I am is more realistic :D .

    Dennis
  • cl601amtcl601amt Member Posts: 9
Dennis, that is how I came up with $26K, I am looking at 2wd. If I do wait, which I probably will, I will only wait until the first part March. The saleslady, (if you believe sales people) told me they are still building the 08s so we have a few months before supply dwindles. I don't mind playing the waiting game because as long as I have my money, I am in the drivers seat, or out of it depending on your point of view.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
If you can get it for invoice less 100% of the incentive for the Pilot, destination, and any dealer doc or prep fees than that is a nice deal. If they deal down into the hold back, then that turns into a really nice deal.

If you can get that now, then I would say get a new Pilot. You just missed the cheap financing promo that had in some states, though.

If you can't find a dealer that will deal down to or into the hold back, then if you wait the incentive may get larger or the dealers you are working with hungrier - or both.

I would use the Honda dealer locator to contract dealers in a large area around where you live you may find one that will may you a nicer deal than you can get locally. I have dealt with Swope in Louisville several times with good results, but on our Pilot we got a much better price from Hennessy in GA (which may be too far for you).

  • cl601amtcl601amt Member Posts: 9
I am not concerned about the financing, as I plan on selling my toy  and come close to paying cash. I am going to gradually widen my search, but doubt I will go as far as GA, I think the cost of transporting there and back would eat up any savings. Thanks for the input.

Edit: Also in MO you pay sales tax later when you license the car, so that is not part of the price, but I was including destination fees.

    Dwynne,

How close are you to Memphis? I bought a 2WD EX-L there two weeks ago and got an OTD of $27,300 (includes 5% MS sales tax). In other words, I bought the Pilot for $26K including all fees. If you want more info - email at cbruton2@comcast.net

    JGMASS-

I bought the same model at Boch last Wednesday. I started discussions by e-mail but when the salesperson played the "we'll beat any price" routine I called her directly. At first she said she couldn't move on price, but then five minutes later she went down $1,000. I said fine and hung up. Twenty minutes later her manager e-mailed me and said they had more room on price. I called the manager several hours later. After a twenty-five minute phone call with the manager here's the end result: Salesperson's best offer was $28,690. Manager went to $28,300, then $28,000. I then told the manager to speak with her boss and I would buy it that night if she did it for $27,500. She came back after speaking with her boss and said $27,700. I said fine, let's split the difference and do it for $27,600 (this price includes the destination fee).

Bottom Line: Be aggressive and don't give in. Get to a manager asap. They'll tell you they are losing money, just laugh at them.

Just a comment on the reply by JROYHONDA. I also spoke with Herb Chambers, but what annoyed me with them was that they just kept saying they'll beat anyone's price if I brought in a written offer. They were never willing to give a lower figure to me by e-mail or over the phone. I ignored them after that.
  • jgmassjgmass Member Posts: 2
    GKYCIA.

Thanks so much for the detailed response! I made an email offer of $27,500 (including destination) to Boch and I got the "thousands less than our cost" "if you get that price elsewhere, jump on it" blah blah.

I will take your advice and give them a call.

I am starting the process with Herb too. I should be getting an email offer tomorrow.

Wondering what you all think of this price, Honda VP including Destination Charge lowest quote so far is: $21,400.00 in Southern Cal

Thinking of pulling the trigger on this but they only have white, red, blue and black left on the VP's Was Looking for Silver. White was a reluctant last choice of four.

Anyway, Co-wokers think it is a great deal. What have you all been getting for this model. Thanks! You all are a wealth of great info.

To bad I missed the 2.9% financing. They are offering 4.99%. I haven't read anyone that has used their home equity line to finance their purchase. Obviously, at 2.9 it's a no brainer. Currently my home equity rate is 5.49%, but as you know that can change quickly. However, the interest is tax deductable. Any thoughts? Can you pay off a 60mo. loan early?
  • boozwaaboozwaa Member Posts: 3
Quote is for 2 WD. Thanks
  • parvizparviz Member Posts: 484
Sure, I'll send it to you in a few minutes. The offer was for a few days only based on the email, however, that is the going price these days and you should still be able to get it.
  • parvizparviz Member Posts: 484
I just sent you an email. I am not sure what the before TTL price is that you are getting but for this car it should be around $26500.(plus tax and dmv, license and nothing more!).
  • msmkingmsmking Member Posts: 2
We have found a good price here in NC but cannot find such a great deal on the financing. Could you tell me who/how you found the 2.9% rate? That is the only holdup from buying this week.

PS: Thank you to all-this has been an education and a tremendous negotiating tool for us.
