    Basically a lifecycle thing.

We have owned two Odysseys over the past six years. Loved both, but kids are now grown up (1 teenager and 1 preteen) and wife wanted something a little more sporty and a little less "minivan" but could still cart kids and their friends around.
You may feel the same someday.

Was disappointed that 3yr old Ody did not hold more of its residual value. Our residual is something like $17.5K, dealer was only going to offer us $14 for a car they could likely flip for $18-20. I was not going to let then pocket an easy $4-6K. Decided better go give the leased car back in July and let Honda eat the residual.

My wife is on way home with 2005 pilot exl . Get this! She got the car for $24500 !!
I have been coming to this board for about a month now and have not seen anything close to this. The car has 45 miles on it. I keep thinking that there has to be something wrong. We went to this dealer in Gainesville Fl last month and for the exl-res the best they would do was $32700.Sticker was $34335. I believe on this car sticker is $32400 ? or something close to it.What do you people think?
    Bought the car in Gainesville.

This board saved me thousands !!

I have been seeing many ppl talk about EX-L RES. Anyone can kindly tell me what means L, RES?

    Many thanks!
  • luckyivyluckyivy Member Posts: 4
Congratulations! I am pretty sure not many ppl in this forum familar with Gainesville. But I came from Gainesville! Your deal is unbelieveable great! 'Cause there is only one Honda dealer in Gainesville, though they are much better than the notorious Toyota dealer, it's not that easy to get such a good deal. I bough my Honda Accord SE from them three years ago.

Do you mean your pilot is EX w/o leather, w/o navi, w/o entertainment? Many thanks!
  • eagle41eagle41 Member Posts: 54
The car is The EX - L (L= leather). The price was $32635. including destination. Car was discounted to $24500. Was told that the deal with this good because my wife was put in touch with the dealer through the Honda Website - she didn't go directly to the dealer. Her Pilot does not have the DVD or Navigation systems.

By the way RES is rear entertainment system (ie DVD).
When the salesmen emailed us that the price was $26005. out the door and that we only to pay for tags I thought he had made a huge mistake .NOT!
I'm still scratching my head !!
  • luckyivyluckyivy Member Posts: 4
Thanks a lot for your reply! Could you pls let me know the dealer's name? I will be back to Gainesville in the near future. If everything works out smoothly, like you did, I will buy one and drive it back!

BTW, do you finance it or buy it?

    Many thanks!
  • eagle41eagle41 Member Posts: 54
The dealers name is Wade Raulerson Honda. In the end we financed it through Banc Of America.
Make sure you go through the Honda.com web site. My wife was asked there what was our zip code. The honda site then contacted the dealer , who then contacted us. This was the reasoning given to us as to why the price was so good.

    Good luck !!
  • brickyarddogbrickyarddog Member Posts: 38
$5000 under invoice? There has to be a catch. :confuse:

I got all of my quotes through the Honda website (about 25 different dealerships), but even the guy quoting $1200 under invoice turned out to be giving me bad information.
  • eagle41eagle41 Member Posts: 54
When salemen Emailed us the other day that the out the door price (including sales tax ,no trade) was $26005. I told my wife that there must be some catch. I thought maybe bait and switch or some other story. She went to the dealer yesterday and I just got done waxing the beast!! I'm still wondering how this happened !!
I found this board on march 6 and have been checking it everyday . This place is the only reason I had any idea what the car cost and the deals that were out there.
I hope others also get the car for this price or better.
  • eagle41eagle41 Member Posts: 54
Per this board I can't tell you the salesman name. The answer to your question is no.
  • alexthemanalextheman Member Posts: 4
Congrats.. That deal is really hard to believe.. I got my wife's pilot 3 months ago for $1100 below invoice. The price was $26,500 for an EX before taxes and license.

Your price is really strange but congrats again..
  • eagle41eagle41 Member Posts: 54
When my wife was at the dealership the salesman asked what color she wanted. He did not try to force her to any particular car they had. She said she wanted silver and there happened to one on the floor. 05 EX-L with gray interior. After test driving it he said that he would check out what he had offered in his email to her.
Came back saying $24500. plus sales tax.
My wife at this point has been calling me on my cell and I'm asking is this real?!!
I say to ask for EXL-res price. He says we can have one for $26100 plus tax.Basically not discounting the RES system. I tell her to take the EXL. Done !
First thing this morning I get call from salesman asking how I liked the car.
Great I said ! Very good deal !!

Something is wrong here - are you sure this Pilot is a 2005?

Also, how much was the (notorious) dealer fee that is typical in Florida?
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Well, I went on your selling dealer's website and saw that they proclaim they don't charge any dealer fee.

With invoice on an '05 Pilot EX-L north of $29,000, I simply don't believe any store would sell one for $24,500.

Unless, perhaps, Honda now has some sort of significant factory to dealer incentive on them.
  • eagle41eagle41 Member Posts: 54
The car is definitly a 2005 EX-l . To register the car and get the plates was $200.
Being originally from NJ I thought that was high. There were no other fees. In the past I have purchased a car where you would see the window sticker and then dealer added options. This car had only the window sticker from the factory.

This dealer has huge ads everyday in the Gainesville Sun. There are always deals on Accords ,but I have never seen anything mentioned on a Pilot. I
get the feeling that in a polite way people don't believe this story. I'm looking for someone else to get the same deal either at this dealer or elsewhere . If not it must have been just a great fluke !!
  • sdanskersdansker Member Posts: 2
I can verify the sales figure. It is true. However, the saleman told me that he had made a $5000 mistake, but since the customer had taken delivery, he couldn't up the price. I'm buying a Pilot EX-L with Nav & the best I can get so far in the Atlanta area is about $30, 700 out the door (plus TTL).
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Ok, it sounded like a $5000 mistake. Still, I have to give the dealer credit for standing behind the (erroneously) quoted price. This and other sites are filled with tales where that hasn't happened.

    Enjoy your Pilot, eagle41!
  • aspesisteveaspesisteve Member Posts: 833
that's an awesome story - almost unbelievable, but I'll take the buyer's word for it.

It should be noted that thinking you might get a dealer to match that "mistake" is probably wishful thinking.
  • veryvermaveryverma Member Posts: 2
I have being reading all these messages, and these have helped me lot in getting Pilot's price bit less. I bought my Honda Pilot (EX-L) '2' days back. It was $28,300 (incl Destination Charge) + taxes + lic. This was the best I got after talking, and emailing around 10 dealers.
  • leealeea Member Posts: 2
hello, maybe you can give me some advise. we are looking to purchase the ex honda pilot, dealer tells me the 12k lease would be 359.00 with a 2000.00 down. outright would be 29,312. invoice is around 27,600. what do you think i can get the monthly lease for on this model based on 12k. thanks, lee a.
  • leealeea Member Posts: 2
we are interested in purchasing the EX and have an initial quote. here are the numbers. what should be the real price i should pay for a great lease deal or an outright purchase.

    12k EX 359 mon. outright 29312.00 invoice is 27650.00

please let me know where i should be on a good lease or purchase deal. thanks, lee.
  • spyderredspyderred Member Posts: 138
You should be able to buy at $1000 below invoice without any difficulty at all. May be $1200- 1400 depending on how motivated is the dealer and what part of the country you are in. I bought an EXL RES for $1150 below invoice three weeks ago.

I can't help you with lease numbers.

What part of the country are you in and what is the name of the dealer? I am in North Carolina and seldom see any posts for good deals in this area.

Just purchased a 2005 Pilot EXL w/ running boards for $29,688 - at invoice. Not as great as others on this board but I had a significant trade that had to be negotiated...great purchasing experience... :D

Started my Pilot shopping two days ago reading up on this site. Just got done bargaining and purchasing a vehicle today. Armed with some basic information from this site and a general strategy, I emailed requests for "best internet quote" from two local dealers. Of course, I got the courtesy email and had to call to get the quotes over the phone. The first was lower than I heard anywhere, 26112 for the EX, and 27889 for EX-L. Called the other one known for price matching, and they quoted me 265XX for the EX, I told them I already had a better phone quote and asked if they could match or beat. They called back and said they could do 26000 for the cloth EX.

Went down, test drove it, liked it, but thought about the EX-L. For me, the cost for the leather changes the entire feel of the car. Or maybe it's that new car leather scent that was getting me high. I decided to pull the trigger on the EX-L. But I also wanted a towing package. Armed with some basic cost info on "Dealer Cost", Avg Retail Cost and this particular dealer's retail cost... I was stuck on approx 1000 for the towing package on top of the discount from the quoted EX applied to the EX-L quoted price. This should have provided some profit to the dealer contrary to their logic. Who knows their true cost. They were really reluctant to go at my original bid of 28,700. And almost as reluctant at 28,800. It took a few phone calls to other dealerships on my own speakerphone to convince them I was willing to waste another hour and drive up to 45 minutes to save the "$200" they were "out of the money".

Summary: 28,800 for EX-L with installed Towing Package and wheel locks. (Do they charge extra for that? They were trying to sell this as a $99 benefit they were throwing in during negotiations.) + Standard TTL and whatever fees and 8.25% tax. Approx 31.5K out the door.

They're installing tow package this week and expect to pick up by the end of the week.. I'll let you know how smoothly that goes. How did I do? Hope this info helps some of you also!

I am in Southern California. I bought from Hardin Honda in Anaheim, Ca. Look back in previous posts regarding the details of my deal. I also helped a friend buy an EXL RES the following weekend from the same dealer for 29,700 including destination. MSRP 34,335 invoice 30,937. Look at message 4000 and 4070. The 05 Pilots are all over dealers lots here in So. Cal. Getting 1000 below invoice is very easy. Also, what helps here is that I have at least 15 dealers within 20 miles. I e-mailed a bunch of them then I competed one against the other. Did all my negotiations by email then followed up with phone calls. Once I received a price I was happy with I selected a dealer that had the color I wanted.

    Very pleasant buying experience,

I am trying to decide between the two. So far not finding any good reason to shelve out extra 8-10K for MDX. I am sure you all went through the same analysis.
    Please share your findings.
    thanks

I just got a LX for 24.9K , including destination and mud guards. I added the remote entry for $320. Maybe could have gone another $500 lower, but oh well..

The dealer is offering the extended warranty for $1349, $0 deductable. Is this a good deal ?
  • veryvermaveryverma Member Posts: 2
Guys, I have seen one thing while shopping for EX-L. Dealers give more discount on the SUVs which have millage more than 100. So take care, These SUVs with more millage can be DEMO also. So please keep this in mind while you bargain. EX-L which I bought had only '1' mile when I bought it. There was another SUV which had around 150 miles on it...and dealer was giving me another $500 off on it. Just thought this may help some body in saving some money if they are interested in buying those vehicles.
  • spyderredspyderred Member Posts: 138
You can buy the Honda Care extended warranty 7/yrs/100K mi/ Zero ded. from College Hills Honda.com for $1150. I printed this quote and took it to my dealer and he matched it.
Dealer cost of this warranty on a Pilot is $1050. Any dealer finance manager wants to make the most profit. If you show him that you are willing to go somewhere else, he will most likely match your quote. Better for him to make $100 than nothing at all.

Let us know if this works for you,

Rob, if you are in NY, drive SOUTH dude... NC is only about 10 hrs from NYC....
I am in the NC southern area...That's a little far, I know, but the idea, may be to get out of NY?? I don't know. Or use the dealer's offers out of state to get your local dealerships to go down? e-mail up to as far away as you'd be willing to drive, or have delivered.
Lumberton Honda in Lumberton, NC, is whom I used to buy my oddy...
and they quoted me 29,900. Sanford honda said they'd match it too for the EXL RES. but not w/ the sports pkg, I tried to get them to throw it in, since i'd have to drive 1 hr, they said no, but they'd do 29,900
I'd look elsewhere, again, a little drive south could save you a lot....
    Heidi

Did you buy at Lumberton or Sandord? What are their email addresses?

see my post on pilot thread:

mdx just got a $1.5K incentive making base mdx about 3K more than pilot ex-l

you get different sheet metal and 2 things you can't get on a Pilot:

    1) Sun Roof - until my hair falls out let me feel the wind in it (might not be worth $3.3K) and
    2) Side curtain air bags all the way back to the 3rd row, since we have 3 kids and a 4th due this week someone is often in the back row so this is priceless......

'06 Pilot might come with SAC but dealers will certainly stay closer to MSRP on an ex-l and the cars won't be here until at least September soo..

we put a deposit on the mdx yesterday
    :D

hope that helps, b/c me if any particular needed...
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,754
ummmm... actually, the EX-L comes with a moonroof.

I hope it wasn't a big factor in picking the MDX. ;)

Just purchased Pilot EX with Entertainment, $ 200 above invoice, with $ 199
Dealer Fee, from Duncan Honda, Chrstiansburg, VA

Then they delivered it for $ 200, a 4 hour drive to Virginia Beach.

Got the 3.9 % financing, no other dealer add ons.

Went to Hall Honda in Virginia Beach, it was all about deception,
Gave them price to beat, they said nobody would sell it that low,

    Guess again.

Quickest, easiest deal, didn’t visit dealer, did it all over phone and on line.

Incredible price, easy transaction, and the internet salesperson was great to work with.

Highly recommend them. No games, great price and easy to work with, and they deliver.

By the way they are selling all their Accords, (Not Hybrid), Pilots, Elements,
    Pilots for similar prices.

Don’t know for how long though.

    :):)

Just want to see if anyone else can weigh in on lease offers they are finding. We think we are near the end of our negotiation - here's what's on the table:
$2500 down (first month and all other fees included), $351/mo (tax included), 12k miles - this is not their initial offer - initial offer was $369/mo (everything else the same). Curious to know what else is out there before we say yes.

PS - Checked out all of the competition this weekend including GM & Ford. No comparison in quality - not to mention the "GM Employee Discount" probably just puts their cars at the level they should be priced at given they have an inferior product!

has anyone gotten a pilot below invoice in the northeast? speaking to the dealers, it seems there's plenty of inventory like elsewhere in the country but the best deal i have so far is at invoice including destination...
  • ajsmithvaajsmithva Member Posts: 1
MDX has a standard sunroof (which you can get on the Pilot) and only 7 seats vs. 8 for the Pilot. The MDX is more glamorous looking, but I'm with you, it isn't worth the extra $8K.
  • kathleen3kathleen3 Member Posts: 2
I went to the Friendly Honda House in Poughkeepsie, NY today (about 1hr 45min North of NYC), and was quoted $27532 for the Pilot EX no leather (includes everything but tax and DMV charges ... tax and DMV would bring it to $29952) .. a whole $80 below invoice.
I actually thought this was a pretty good deal (according to consumer reports this price quote is a hair more than 3% on top of what Consumer reports believes the dealer paid for the car).
  • kathleen3kathleen3 Member Posts: 2
FYI - I sent a feeler out last night though AUTOBYTEL, and already have two offers that will put me below 27000 for a PILOT EX (no leather). The following an internet quote I received from Brewster Honda in NY: "For a Pilot EX your Brewster Honda (in NY)Internet Sales Price is $26,612. For a Pilot EX with leather Brewster Honda Internet Sales Price is $28,589. This price includes freight and destination and all prep charges and conveyance fees (some Connecticut dealers add in a $179 to $250 conveyance fee at signing. We do not). There are no hidden fees or premiums. You must add your local sales tax and DMV Charges (plates and registration)."

thanks for the info - although brewster might be a tad farther than i might want to travel - i live in the metro area....

i haven't had much luck in getting replies for price quotes requested through honda.com. i wonder if dealerships are more willing to respond to requests originating through third party sites or the dealerships in this area just aren't as willing to deal...

out of maybe 8 dealerships, one replied back with a quote... had to call others through the phone. one insisted that 31500 was the invoice price for the model i was looking for (ex-l with nav) when edmunds has it at 30900...
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,754
actually, $30,900 (a little less) is WITHOUT the destination charge. so the invoice, including destination, is $31,386.

Is it possible to add the NAV system to the EX-L w/RES?

I got quoted $31,6XX for this Pilot with the Nav system added (in Louisiana). Does that look like a fair deal? When you get to the dealership do they typically add on other costs to this (like pinstripe etc). Have not seen the vehicle yet. But, when I test drove a Pilot at another dealership, I felt a jerk when it was shifting gears. Is this normal for the Pilot to do?
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,754
I would think it would be MUCH easier to add the RES than to add NAV.

$31,6? As in a few hundred dollars over invoice for the Pilot with JUST Nav? And you are getting both Nav and RES? Sounds great to me. But, I would want the factory Nav, so just make sure its not some aftermarket setup. Aftermarket is ok for the RES, but not vice versa, in my opinion (not that there is necessarily anything wrong with aftermarket Nav, but I'd rather have a factory warranty on that than on a DVD player.)

Jerking while shifting should not be normal. Ours is quite smooth.

not at my dealer... but every dealer is different.

if you want, make sure you get everything broken down (including all fees) and a total out-the-door price before you go.

I also requested a quote from Brewster Honda through the Honda website and they came back with $29,589. NOT $28,589. Was the price you listed in your post a typo? Or maybe they are offering different quotes to people coming through different sites.

Thanks for the link. I already purchased a few accessories from

    http://www.cheaphondaparts.com/

They had the lowest prices for the items I was looking for, and they only charged me a flat $19.95 for shipping and handling for all the stuff I bought which included the running boards weighing at 60 lbs. I received all the items in 3 days. Excellent service and it was all genuine honda parts. Quite satisfied.

I think I got a decent deal from a dealer in Houston. $ 500 under invoice ($29100 including destination charge and that includes etching worth $199); Plus the dealer said I can get 1.9% 3-year financing. I didn't intend to buy today but the dealer give me a deal I can't refuse. Will finalize the deal next week.

Any comments from recent buyers in Houston area?
