2005 black EX-L (saddle leather) with RES/DVD
$3000 down
36 month lease
$350.00 per month lease out the door
12k miles
$20,257.65 buyout.
I think it comes to about 300 over invoice based on my figures.
Thanks for the help!!
Perry in CT
I don't think I can post the finance persons contact info here but let me know if you want the info. Congratulations...I am torn between Pilot, MDX and XC90 for my wife. I just want my family in the safest car available. We have a little time before we buy but I'm already thinking about it.
A total of 12 dealerships have responded so far. As expected, 3 of the 4 highest quotes were Indianapolis dealers. I don't want to give too much information on the lowest quote, mainly because I still question its validity. But, I will say that the highest quote was $946 over invoice, and the lowest quote was $1265 below invoice. I did ask one of the Indy dealers for a counter-offer, and they did respond with $150 over invoice, which moved them from 11th to 7th on my list, but they said they won't go lower.
As for the $1265 under invoice quote, I hope to have my questions answered when I speak with them tomorrow. Ya know - questions like "does it include destination?", and "are we really talking about an EX-L?" I plan to pull the trigger on the 20th, so take this quote with a grain of salt until I can say that I've signed the deal.

Thanks and keep us posted on your experience with them tomorrow!

There is what the dealer is billing as a "clearance sale" at the Greenwood Mall and a Honda dealer (the name of the particular one escapes me) at the sale. The dealer is driving cars over to the mall for the sale so I would suspect that, all things being equal, it would be their preference to not have to take cars back the the lot unsold. On the other hand, this clearance could just be a gimmick. It might be worth drivng a bit south with the intention of making a deal on a car.
As for my quote for $1265 under invoice - it was bad information. When I first received the quote, the guy told me what the MSRP was and what the quote was for. I knew his MSRP was wrong, so I asked him about it. When he corrected it, he stated that the quote was still the same, $28324. Today, he came back and said oops again, that quote was actually for an Odyssey. :surprise: The new quote is for invoice price. The dealership is Immke Northwest Honda in Columbus, Ohio. Avoid them at all costs until they figure out exactly what they're doing.
The next best quote is $800 under ($28789) from Wilde Honda in Waukesha, Wisconsin. I'm still debating whether it's worth an 8-hour drive (possibly more depending on Chicago traffic) to save $25 a month on my lease. There are only two other quotes under invoice - both from the Chicago area - one was $389 under and the other was $200 under.
did your lease payment of 350 include tax (what %)
any other fees / security deposit....?
any other items they put on the car?
thanks,
I have received a lot of good information from this website and wanted to post my experience for others benefit as well. On May 14, 2005 I purchased a Billet Silver Pilot EX-L from Ed Napleton Honda in St. Peters, Mo. This is the breakdown:
Silver Pilot EXL Purchase
MSRP
Base $32,320
Destination $ 515
Processing Fee $ 99
Mud Guards $169
Cross Bars $399
Wheel Locks $99
Pin Striping $99
Total before taxes $33,700
Invoice
Base $29,074
Destination $515
Processing Fee $99
Mud Guards $62
Cross Bars $137
Wheel Locks $30
Pin Striping $99
Total before taxes $30,042
My Price
Base $28,985
Destination $515
Processing Fee $99
Mud Guards $-
Cross Bars $-
Wheel Locks $-
Pin Striping $-
Total before taxes $29,599
(Mud Guards, Cross Bars, Wheel Locks, and Pin Striping were already on the vehicle)
I still need to pay approximately $2,000 for taxes (6.575%) and fees to the state (Mo.).
I did not have a trade in.
For the accessories, I took the dealers prices for MSRP, which would have included installation, and for the invoice prices, I took the price from H&A Accessories, so this would be without installation, tax and shipping. For invoice price of pin striping I took the same as the MSRP. Not quite apples to apples on the accessories but close.
I spent a lot of time researching this vehicle and was trying to decide between a lower model Accord or the Pilot EX-L. (I know a big difference.) My only objective yesterday was to make the final decision between the two. After I decided, I planned on getting a quote from them but was fully intending to leave and get quotes from other dealers. I had hoped to buy before the end of the month but wasn’t in a hurry to buy it yesterday. I had a rough idea from the postings here what a good price might be, but still wanted to do more research. I’m not good at negotiating so I wanted to arm myself with as much information/research as possible. They wanted to sell it yesterday and I wanted to leave to find more information. So, their price kept going down. It really wasn’t a ploy on my part, I know myself well enough to not make this decision on emotion only and that I needed processing time. I also knew I wasn’t going to pay their higher price. My stomach was tightening up but I think that was from thinking “are you really going to spend this amount of money” and not from any pressure tactics from the salesman. In the end, I wasn’t convinced I could do better elsewhere without spending a significant amount of time. My impression from the postings was that it was difficult to get really good deals without leaving the area, although I was willing to do that if they hadn’t come down so much. There was the advantage to me that my son and a friend of his were with me to give moral support which was very beneficial. We finally agreed on the above price. I am happy with the decision that I made.
My salesman was very good, and I will be glad to give his name if you e-mail me.
Sorry for the long post, but I always appreciated the detailed information from others. Gotta go for a Sunday Drive!

One think I know that EX-L with Navigation is about 600 more costly than EX-L with DVD.
Please let me know if you have any experience and tried these option before buying these product. wish to go for Navigation but not sure how much will it be helpful in daily use and how reliable is this service... also wish to know is there any monthly changes for Navigation service or not ?
Any feedback that help me to decide will be greatly appreciated !!
Thanks in advance.
:confuse:
We just purchased a 2005 Pilot EX-L at Lia in Enfield. Went through the internet and the experience was fantastic.
Purchase Price - $29,095
Black Side Steps - $618 (installed)
Fees (Conveyance and some other thing), Reg, and Tax - $1873.65 (299.00, 3.00, 86.00, 1485.65)
Total out the door $31,586.65
The purchase price of 29,095 is right at invoice ($29,074). They can offer this because there is a $970 dealer holdback, so that with the $515 destination charge they still get their $476 on the price.
One last thing-Someone posted earlier about using www.cheaphondaparts.com to get low prices and then getting the dealer to match. We did this- the side boards are $386 with delivery- the Lia said they would take that price and then the rest is labor (it seems a little high but the experience was so good we did not complain.)
Thanks for all your comments!
I live in CT 6% sales tax. Not sure the breakdown of the fees but it was $3,000 down and 36 month $350 lease out the door (including all fees).
No last minute hidden fees. Brewster Honda was a great buying experience and highly recommended
Go to kbb.com (kelly blue book) there is a link to the 2005 honda EX lease program and I've asked aobut it in edmunds forum "lease questions" Cause I want the EX L w/ RES...it's $280/mth! NO way I'd lease for over 400...you can buy for that...
Heidi
I know for the EXL is about 29k so you got it for about 29 then?
Basically no charge for dvd if you got in 1k below invoice right?
I want the exl w/ dvd and am looking around. I bought an 04' oddy so I KNOW I can get at invoice, but how did you get below? you are getting into their holdbacks....
my oddy is worth 1k more than I owe and I got it at cost...so I have some to put down, but don't plan to. I was thinking of getting it at or below cost, then leasing, so my payments would be under $300. The current lease is 280 but it's w/out leather or dvd...so that will make it higher I am sure.
Heidi
What part of the country are you in? I currently have quotes in Chicago/Milwaukee for $400-$800 under invoice, and another near Columbus, Ohio for $200 under. There are other good options if you let us know where you are.

thanks! This forum has been VERY helpful!
thanks
Any deals??
I've bought from the honda dealer before, a 2004 odyssey I got at cost, so that's not a problem. Just wondering if there is a secret to getting under cost. My family's bought like 13 honda's together and my mom like 8 from the same dealer and she pays at or $500 over cost.
I got cost for mine and it's the same dealer, so I should get kbb for a trade (1k more than I owe w/ nothing down), so I hope to get an awsome deal on a piolet. I am thinking lease or buy? not sure...
heidi
Three of my best quotes were from your area. These are all for EX-L's without DVD or RES. The best, and one that I am still considering is Wilde Honda in Waukesha, Wisconsin - $800 under invoice (28789). 2nd best is O'Hare Honda at $389 under invoice (29200), and 3rd is Muller Honda in Highland Park at $200 under invoice (29389).
I've read of other folks having good experiences at Wilde, and with the brief experience I've had with them, I can already see why.
Just go to www.wildehonda.com and request a quote.
Best of luck!

I don't know of any secrets, other than being flexible on where you buy your Pilot, and do a lot of work up front to make sure you don't pay too much. Just by being here, you're already on the right track.
I can't help you guys in NC, Boston, or Philadelphia, but I can get you started. First, go to carsdirect.com and get an instant quote for your zip code. Then, seek out any zip codes of other cities within your travel range, and get quotes for those cities. Find your best price, and use it as your starting point.
Then, go to Honda's web site, www.hondacars.com, and "Locate a Dealer". When you find a dealership within your travel range, click on the button next to them that says "Request a Quote", and fill in what you want. Repeat the process for a bunch of dealerships. This is a pretty quick way to get good information. Most of them will respond with numbers above invoice - but you might get a surprise and wind up with a quote under invoice. If not, you can ask for counteroffers and probably get near invoice price from someone.
I requested quotes from 20 dealerships, and I'm torn between having a Pilot shipped to me from Wisconsin (800 under invoice, but shipping is 300), or pay an additional $25 per month on my lease to buy it in town at invoice. :confuse:
Good luck to everyone!

Invoice on a Pilot EXL-RES is 30,937 including destination (515). Does your quote of 29651 include destination?
As for the tax situation, I just got off the phone with Wilde, and living in Indiana I would only pay sales tax on the payments. Living in Illinois, you might be responsible for tax on the full price of the car. Wilde has a way to chat with a live salesperson on their web site, so maybe you could ask them. I'm sure they've had to deal with that in the past.
Let me know which dealer gave you the good quote, and the offer to beat it by 200. You can name the dealership, just not the individual salesperson. I'm probably going to wind up settling for invoice price from a local dealership and save the hassle, but it might be an interesting exercise to see just how well I can do in Chicago.
Thanks!
Auto-West in Fremont and Dublin Honda were both very competitive. Auto-West quoted $28,488 for EX-L and $30,286 for EX-L w/navi (including destination fees). Dublin was nearly the same plus they offered an additional $100 below anyone's price for anyone who lives or works w/in 25 miles of them (think they're looking for service revenue???). Capitol Honda is also very competitive. They claim that they will not be undersold and will match any offer from another dealer. In order to get this pricing, you must do it via internet. This way, they do not have to pay a commission to a salesman.
I bought a EXL RES with complete wood trim, d/n mirror, mud guards, wheel locks for 34K total driveloout(incl TTL). That makes it 30253 for price, 1500 in options and 2100 TTL.

nice going - which dealer did you wind up buying at? were you able to get the color you wanted? was the tow package already on the vehicle or did they have to add that on for you?
did you get any decent Honda finance rates?
car:$30786
tax$1847
tire:$7
registration:$342
doc:$189
total:$33171.66 out of the dealership
Quick , pleasent experience.
"Multi-Risk is a package of coverages that includes Comprehensive, Collision and Mechanical Breakdown (MBI). This coverage protects you from expensive auto repair bills when your car experiences a mechanical failure. Multi-Risk is usually much more affordable than the Extended Warranty offered by your car dealership and in some instances covers more. Varying deductibles are available for the Comprehensive and Collision portions of the package; a $250 deductible applies to the Mechanical Breakdown. You should add Multi-Risk protection to your policy as soon after the car is purchased as possible. GEICO Multi-Risk can only be added if it is a current model year vehicle, the vehicle is less than 15 months old and the odometer reading is less than 15,000 miles, and you are the first title holder. Multi-Risk coverage expires once the vehicle is 7 years old or reaches 100,000 miles."
I will get a Pilot LX this Saturday and plan to keep it as long as possible. So, what is your opion about the two choices ? Does anyone have any experience with the mechanical insurance ? Thanks!
- The coverage on the HondaCare warranty may cover more items than the
mechanical breakdown insurance.
- There is a no deductible option for the HondaCare warranty
- The price of the HondaCare warranty is set once you purchase it. The insurance rates may rise in the future and not be such a good deal in three or four years.
Anyway, I gave a lot of information on my quotes a few pages back. My decision boiled down to buying the Pilot locally near invoice price, or getting it from Wisconsin at $700+ under invoice. On my 36 month lease, it would have saved me about $25 per month.
I decided to buy locally today from Honda West in Indianapolis. They included mud guards and the price was actually $78 over invoice for an EX without Leather.
There are 4 dealerships in town. All of them responded with quotes, but only Honda West responded with a price close to invoice. Upon asking for counter-offers, it appeared that any of the dealerships would have let me have invoice price, but none of them would go under. Honda West gave me the best price out of the gate, and they have a stated policy not to add on unnecessary crap like paint/fabric protection, serial number-etched glass, or even Honda accessories unless you want them added (the exception is that everybody gets mud guards).
The deal was completely hassle-free. Until today, all communications were done through e-mail. The car was clean, filled with gas, and ready for me (with only 16 miles on it) when I arrived today. The entire process took about an hour. They processed my credit app while I went on the test drive, then we filled out paperwork and covered all of the features of the vehicle.
Here's the details (destination is included in all prices):
MSRP: 30,635
Invoice: 27,612
Purchase Price: 27,690
Title Fee: 78.75
Tire Tax: 1.25
Out of pocket: $975 to cover first payment and $595 Honda acquisition fee.
Payment (including 6% Indiana sales tax): $324.73
I have to give honorable mention to Wilde Honda in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Their initial quote was $734 under invoice. Their Internet staff was awesome. I had a lot of questions about how to handle the out-of-state purchase, and their professional manner was really impressive, both through e-mail and over the phone.
Other dealerships in the Midwest who also gave quotes under invoice: O'Hare Honda (Chicago area), Muller Honda (Chicago area), and Honda of Marysville (Marysville, Ohio - the home of the Accord factory). O'Hare was about 400 under and the other two guys were about 200 under.
Good luck to everyone in finding your best deal!

I am considering a 2005 Pilot. I am disappointed that it doesn't have the upgraded navi system. I actually want Navi & RES. Since you can't have both in the Pilot AND since the RES is also 'old school' with only a 7-inch monitor, I believe I will opt for a Pilot EX-L Navi then put in an aftermarket RES. I know I can buy an aftermarket Navi (which probably has better or more features), but I really like having it built in. You can have RES done aftermarket & have it look completely stock OR better than stock (screens in headrests, for example). I was hoping to get one with screens in the headrests as to not block the rear view. I haven't done serious shopping for this type of rear entertainment, but am confident I can find something for equal to or LESS than what Honda charges for their factory unit (plus it should be better).
FYI - there is no charge for a 'service'. It just works. From time to time (every 2 years or so) I'd recommend updating your DVD so it has the latest & greatest information (roads change, businesses change, etc.). I have noticed a few quirks when driving certain routes, but it is very minor and ultimately gets you to where you need to go. The voice is annoying in daily use, but when on a trip OR going thru a big city, it is nice to turn on so you can keep your eyes on the road & listen for directions. Now that I've had a Navi, I won't buy another primary vehicle' without one. One more thing...aftermarket units I've tried usually take a while to get a satellite and seem to loose signals quite frequently (maybe there are better ones out there). The unit in my 2000 Oddy gets a signal immediately and never loses it (unless I'm driving thru a tunnel).
Good luck & e-mail me if you'd like to discuss further.
Joe
Spyderred,
Did the dealer allow you to pick up the car yourself and drive it to Nevada to register? Some have told me it can be done and I know people who claim to have done it. Other dealers adamantly say it can't be done. They claim that they have to deliver the car across the state line.
I've been offered a great price by a California dealer. But, as luck would have it, this dealer is one of those insisting on delivering it 200+ miles away. I'd prefer to be the one driving the vehicle during the break-in period.
I'd be very interested in the details of your purchase. Thanks in advance.
Wanted to get several other accessories but they wanted to make up some profit I guess. So I decided to get them later from other sources. Any ideas where to get reasonable priced genuine honda accessories?
TIA,
Spyderred,
