I jut talked to Hansel in Petaluma for EX-l navi 200 under invoice on a 24 month lease. 4800 down (my idea) and 288/mo. They have my color on stock and I plan to commit tomorrow on telephone. I live in coastal boonies so if I go and have been lied to, %%#@#@&^
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
I'm certainly no expert on leases but your total cost of $488 per month for 24 months does not sounds like such a great deal to me. Actually, that figure approaches what I pay monthly for my wife's EX-L Nav (2.9% for 60 months with zero down).

    Why put down so much?.

We got it at Coast Honda in Sea Girt, NJ. I consider myself an average negotiator. I think a good negotiator could do very well as it seems like they want to get these off the lot.

    jivigil88,

I mean no harm or disrespect by my questioning, but are you saying that you were quoted a 36 month lease of a 2005 EX-L for $351 per month and $688 down?

If so, this is better than anything I've been quoted on a lease for this vehicle by $63 per month. I really need to understand the what and how on this because I plan to lease a Pilot this weekend and your deal appears to be markedly better than anything I have found.

Finally, what we the residual on the EX-L lease you are referencing?

Please help with details so I can be well educated prior to securing my lease. Thanks in advance for the info.
  • jvigil88jvigil88 Member Posts: 21
This is what I got from a dealership in my area:

The following lease info is based on Tier I credit and 12k miles annually for 36 months.

2005 Honda Pilot EX - YOUR PRICE: $27,062
$304.45 plus tax ($25.12) with $624. due at signing.

    2005 Honda Pilot EX-L YOUR PRICE: $29,039
$351.90 plus tax ($29.03) with $688. due at signing.

The manufacturers warranty is 36 months or 36k miles.

Both models are available in either Sage or Blue.

But then I got this selling number from another agent:
    Ex- $26,900
    Ex-L $28,800
but no lease payments till I actually go in and see them. That is what is so confusing to me.,,, I get so many different prices and payments and there is not consistency.
  • trailmowertrailmower Member Posts: 12
    This seems pretty good.

    Two additional questions:

What area do you live in?
What is the residual value on the EX-L lease?

Thank you very much for the information. I should speak to the dealer in 48 hours and I will let you know what I learn.

Thought I would give an update as well where I am at in negotiations with a Pilot EX-L (in Indy as well!):

using carsdirect.com, got a quote back for the EX-L Red for:
    $29289 ($300 under invoice)
(actually got an offer for $500 under invoice but this dealer is in the Westen Suburbs of Chicago (4 hours away) and I plan on leasing so I hear to avoid Illinois since I would have to pay tax on the entire purchase price).

Penske gave me the quote of $30088 (which equated to $436/mo for 15K/yr for 36 month, only 1st month payment down). Once I told them they were $800 higher than the lowest quote they countered with $29489 ($100 under invoice), but they are only 10 min from home.

Now this is where I need some assistance:
in his last email he first brought up some fees that were originally not on the table and also a statement about dealer installed options:

"Fees- 6% sales tax, $98 document fee, IN tire tax $1.25, Title transfer fee $15, Acquistion fee for Honda is $595. If the Pilot you choose has any dealer installed options on it, they are in addition to pricing quoted. "

Now I have no problem with the tax, but should I be leary of this $98 document fee and $595 acquisition fee? Where did they acquire it from? It is already on the lot! Also, I did not ask for any dealer installed options, so should I refuse to pay for them or ask they be removed? Need some feedback, they are asking at Penske to have this deal wrapped up by 4-30!!! Still CarsDirect is $200 cheaper, gotta find out if any of these fees will pop-up there as well at Dealer X?? :confuse:

 In the Twin Cities area Pilots are selling at $500 over invoice. A Honda EX-L including destination is $30,088. I'm finding no one moving from that price.

Biggest differences seem to be in the dealer option pricing. For instances the Tow Kit option including Trans and Power Steering Coolers are priced between $1000 to $1525.

After first email bombing for over 50 dealers, this is the lowest so far. It is already in my buying zone. I will start bombing for the second round. Hope I could get couple of hundreds less. It is in metro cleveland area though.

I got a quote from dealer in Dallas area for 30747+TTL. Seems good to me. What do you think?
It is a EX with Leather and DVD RES. I also want wood trim on dashboard and steering. Did anybody get this wood trim, if so how much did you pay for it.
Also I got pre-approved by Honda Finance on internet. But they did not give out APR info. Do you know how much APR they are charging for 60months finance with good credit??
    Thanks

I haven't bought a Pilot yet, but I know you can get a better deal in the Twin Cities. I just received an email quote today for a blue EX-L from Hopkins Honda for 29,789 + ttl and doc fees. Let me know if you are able to do better. Thanks.
  • buck0086buck0086 Member Posts: 52
I've seen a lot of prices listed on this discussion board with TTL and I know those are set by the state, but I'd like to find out specifically what document fees would be considered average or acceptable. I'd also like to know what exactly a document fee is. I have a pretty good idea of what price price I am looking for regarding the vehicle + $515 destination charge, but I'm still struggling with the document fee. Thanks.

Reposting it without the salesman’s name. Apologies to host as I was not awrae of this.
Another Silver EX-L Pilot owner here.
I would highly recommend Right Honda and Internet/Fleet Dept.
Here is the summary. Took delivery from Right Honda in
Scottsdale, Phoenix, Arizona. EarnHard Honda at Avondale also came pretty
close but is kind of aggressivein their approach.

Whole process including the test drive took less than 2 hours.
Car had 16 miles on it and they threw in the pinstripes, wheel locks
    and Front Tints
    Price including destination 28,850.74
    Sales Tax 7.95% 2,293.63
    Doc Fee 89.90
    Registration 560.73
    Tire Fee 5.00
Out of the door Price 32,000 ( I wish I am living in some state where
taxes are a max of $300!!!!!!!)
I also got the 2.9% Honda Financing. btw I took delivery 3 weeks back
  • lxlxlxlxlxlx Member Posts: 12
When did you get 2.9%? All I can get is 4.6% right now.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
An "acquisition fee" is typically a bank fee and is their cut for the "hassle" of the transaction. Such fees are not at all unusual on a lease. The document fee is merely additional dealer profit and should be (but not necessarily is) negotiable.

If you don't want certain dealer options, negotiate on a vehicle that has none installed and work up from there.

Really, though, the monthly payments seem high. Here in Columbus stores have been advertising the same vehicle for about $350 or $360 per month for 3 years with less than $700 total down out the door. Well, maybe the difference isn't so great - yours is with a 15K mileage allowance compared with 12K here.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
A "document fee" is additional dealer profit, pure and simple. In Ohio, it is limited by state law to $100 maximum.

Some states (such as Florida) are notorious for high doc fees. IMHO, don't worry about it at all - just factor it into what you are willing to pay.

I look at it this way, a vehicle priced at $29,500 with a $100 doc fee with cost exactly the same as one priced at $29,200 with a $400 doc fee.

Saw your post before you removed the salesman's name ;)

I emailed Right Honda 2 days ago to see if they'd be willing to offer the same deal. Disappointingly, I've heard nothing from them. Who else in the Valley came close besides Earnhardt?

Do any Valley residents have experience with either Arrowhead, Tempe, Showcase, or Bell Honda?

    Thanks!

Buck we purchased a Pilot EX-L from Hopkins Honda today. I don't know if this was a line of BS or not but my sale guy sweeten the deal significantly all in the name of getting the sale by the end of the month.

We purchased the vehicle with several options and we did a trade. Bottom line is that I think you can probably do a little better than $29,789 + ttl if you work them. I feel pretty good about the deal I made today, it was hundreds less than any where else I shopped in the cities.

    Hi bfree,

Thanks much for the info. I got a price from Desert Honda in Las Vegas that was a couple thou higher than the Anderson Honda price, but there may be a problem. After I land in CA, I plan to drive cross-country. I'm registering the car in VA which has a 4% sales tax, and I'm told I MUST pay the CA sales tax (8% I believe) and VA won't refund the difference. Well, that eats up most of the difference plus I was planning to land at LAX from overseas & drive to Las Vegas with family (then buy the car in LV). If it's not true about being required to pay the CA Tax, then I could always land in SF & meet the family in LV. Do you know about this requirement for out-of-state registers?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    OK all,

Here's where I am currently in my pursuit of the best lease for an EX-L. I did the consumer equivalent of spamming by sending an email request for quotes directly to every dealer in the general area. I was sitting on a 36 month and 36K miles lease for $415 (including tax and ttl) with only 1st month payment out of pocket and residual of $19,700. I received this from Penske several days ago per my earlier postings.

Today I received a quote from Honda West on a 36/36 at $408/month, first month pymt and a residual of $19,044. I spoke to the salesperson via phone and he told me that was based on an lease with Honda Corp money costs and an invoice price for the Pilot. In our conversation he said that was the best he would do even if I drove over and tried to bargain.

I'm getting a Pilot in the morning. I want to look the salesperson at Penske in the eye and tell him I know he can get me a $400/month with no additional drive off costs beyond the first pymt if he is so inclined.

Anybody out there who has received this deal or better on an EX-L within the last week or so? Details would be great to have. Thanks in advance.

Spoke to Liberty Honda in Hartford & Schaller Honda in New Britain - Both had the same deal $300 over invoice. Liberty did offer an extended warranty for 12 mos, but it was not a factor in my decision. Went with Schaller :D as they are closest to my home, had the car we wanted in Stock (Steel Blue), and gave us mud guards & pinstrip free. Overall i felt it was a good deal, no hassle and we are loving the Pilot. If you push you could do even better as they all seem to have many Pilots on the lot, and want to move them. Good Luck!
  • buck0086buck0086 Member Posts: 52
    jamesandmarcy,

Can you tell me what you got the Pilot for? I've been keeping track of what other people have paid on this website over the past few months and will be using that when I deal for the Pilot.

I'm guessing you were somewhere near invoice as my feeling based on what I have been reading is that there may be less competition in the Twin Cities vs. California, Phoenix, Chicago, etc. That's where it appears you can get a Pilot for 500-1000 under invoice.

If you'd prefer to email me directly rather than post, check my profile. Thanks for the info and enjoy your new Pilot!!!

We know a bit about this 'must pay CA tax' rule. Actually you DON'T have
to pay the CA tax if the CA dealer can prove (to DMV/CA tax people) you took
delivery outside of CA. Which prob. means you would need to pay them to
deliver the car to NV, or something like that. These are requirements of the
CA tax and DMV people (to ensure they get their tax dollars). The CA dealer
can give you a one-way trip permit (or a 30 day permit?) which allows you to
drive the car - once they satisfied THEIR tax requirements.

Perhaps a VA dealer could arrange a courtesy delivery for you on the west coast?
Otherwise - try OR or WA, one of which has no sales tax (don't remember
    which at this moment).

You might also try a NV dealer - I doubt NV's tax people are so sticky. Las Vegas
is pretty easy to get to from almost anywhere on the planet.

I just received an internet quote from Richfield-Blmgtn. Honda for $29,978 including destination and handling. So pretty much in the same ballpark. Buerkle Honda came back with $30,226 but haven't responded to what it includes.
Hope that helps. I will let you know if I get something lower.

Thanks for the update. These were the final numbers I received from Penske for an EX-L (Red):

EXL 36 months, 15k year, 1st payment due, total payment $420, residual $19044
Offer expires on April 30th. Payments based on approved credit.

This was for a agreed price of $29489 ($100 below invoice).

I am also having a guy from CarsDirect get quotes as well and right now he has 3 dealers in the area working on a deal for me, I think the best offer is for $500 under invoice, and they are saying its through May 2nd. But I am thinking of actually taking my time and seeing what happens next month, I still have one payment left on my 2002 Pathfinder lease so I am not in a huge hurry. I am also considering perhaps purchasing the Pilot (most likely 60 mo finance), if I can get the right price and a good APY, I might be able to get to buy for about $30 more a month. We were talking about buying the Pilot after the lease, but after running the numbers, finance over lease saves me about $2000 over the 5 years and thats assuming I pay the $19044 residual in full in 3 years.

To make it even more confusing, I just might end up buying a new Accord EX-L 4 cyl sedan in May and then in 2007 when my BMW 325i lease is up, for what I am paying on that lease, I could own or lease a mighty nice SUV(loaded Pilot, MDX, Lexus 330) for the wife and for the next two years monitor the gas prices and see if any of these manufacturers come out with a more fuel efficient SUV. Plus in 2007, my 1st kid (who is due this August by the way) will be 2 years old and we may really need an SUV by then, These first two years not so much, we could use the time to save some extra cash.... Thanks and keep me posted how the in the dealer experience at Honda West goes... Penske can be frustrating, they let me walk over $100 a few years back. Ended up saving $500, too bad for them!

    Hello,

Since we've been helped *a lot* by the informative posts here, we thought we should write a bit about our experiences in buying our new '05 Pilot EX-L. Dealers weren't offering 2.9% financing here, but in a stroke of serendipity, a flyer from a local credit union showed up in our mailbox with 2.90%. We jumped on it, got preapproved, and were ready to go.

First, we emailed the closest dealership, and the internet sales manager emailed back with a price (29,800 base and destination included). Then, we used this number and emailed about 10 dealerships locally, saying that this was the price we'd start bargaining from with this dealer, and, could they beat it? Responses were really interesting--some never followed up; others sent a vague reply with no real numbers; one wrote back a nearly incoherent email riddled with typos. One salesperson at Tamaroff Honda in Southfield was *especially* professional and on top of things--I wish we could share her name and bring her business! She sent us an email back and then followed up with a call; she was able to offer 29,100. Then, we called Howard Cooper in Ann Arbor, where I knew a salesperson informally, and asked him whether he could beat this. He did by $50--not much, but enough to not drive an hour out of our way! We were pretty surprised as we'd heard (and knew from past experience buying a Volkswagen) that this dealership doesn't normally negotiate as much.

Thursday evening, we went and test-drove a Pilot and then signed papers. The salesman was *great*--no pressure at all. He wrote down the price we'd agreed to on the phone, asked us once if we wanted any extras, and that was it. So, all told, we got it for $29,050 (base+dest.) and $31,107 out the door (w/6% tax).

It was such a pleasant, no-hassle experience--email and phone negotiating is the way to go, at least for us!

    Thanks,
    Con and Heidi

Me too. Got a lot of help from this board
Decided to lease because our plans have changed so much lately due to family situations, am unsure of my needs in future.
Hansel Honda of Petaluma internet guy was great. I spoke to him about a 36 MO lease and he checked the numbers and said 24 was a better deal, and 08 will likely be a major redo on pilot. I live 120 miles from dealer over twisty mountainous roads, so don't like idle trips.
He faxed me the numbers, looked great. 500 under invoice. No hidden charges. I wanted deal. Could not get to the dealer before end of month. They DELIVERED the car here. It had 170 miles on it (remember we are 120 miles away) They brought the contract. I signed in my home, gave them a check and they were out the door. 15 minutes including some chatter.
Had trouble locating the disc changer (I have nav) Called salesman I had dealt with at 630 PM on Friday. Left voice mail. 800PM he calls me from home with my answer.

I am 64 and bought a lot of cars, leased once before. This is the simplest, best car buying experience I have had.

I learned from this website, so I thought I'd reciprocate and provide some of my deal information.

I purchased the Pilot EX-L yesterday from Goodson Honda West. We had a great experience there.

Last week, my salesperson suggested this website. So, I read the postings, solicited bids online from several local dealers (lowest was $28,800 including destination charge) and Goodson beat it. The sales staff didn't give us a hard time about bringing in competitive bids (I was expecting some tension).

My deal at Goodson was $28,764.74 including destination plus TT&L for the Pilot EX-L. The TT&L was accurate (my wife checked all the numbers - apparently some dealerships will add fees to recoup the profits - make sure you bring a calculator!).

Thanks to all of the posters. I felt more informed and empowered buying this car than those in the past.

i wanted to share my deal info too ... i just bought a EXL ... $29288 + TTL = out the door $31,520.22 in Hartford, CT

sounds like some of you were able to get some extras - good for you ... i didn't know about this forum before striking the deal and am glad that my deal wasn't too bad ... phew!

one thing that the sales guy tried to sell us was extended warranty - 7/100K - $1395+tax and u get your money back if u don't claim after term ... do u guys know if this is worthwhile?
  • phamjphamj Member Posts: 13
    starknight88,

My experience with extended warranty when I purchased my Pilot 3 weeks ago was like this:
I printed the pricing from jayhondacare.com and the cost for 7/100K $0 deductible was $1200. I showed my dealer the cost and they matched it.

If you want to by extended warranty then your dealer should only charge you $1200 or you can by it online. Make sure it is Honda Care warranty and not a third party policy.

As many of you know, the last day of the month is the best time to shop for a deal and so I started with my daughter at 9am shopping for an Honda LX on April 30. By 7 pm, I had been to three dealers and talked to a third on the phone and got such a great deal on an LX, I switched horses and went with the EX instead.

We shopped Burt Honda, Ralph Schomp Honda, Planet Honda and talked to Fisher Honda in Boulder on the phone.

By the time it was all over, we got our best deal (no one else would match it) at Burt Honda. We negotiated for an LX.

Final Price: $26,111 (including $1,082 tow package and $65 cargo tray)

Then I asked if they would do the same deal on an EX instead and the salesman left for a few minutes and came back and said yes. What I meant to ask was would they give us the same "ratio" of a discount, but asked for the same discount -- not realizing. They came back with a printout showing:

    EX MSRP $30,635
-$1,954 (same discount as the LX)
PRICE $28,681 (tow package and cargo tray "free"

We did a little more negotiating and finally arrived at a final price of $28,420 for the EX base model, including the $1,082 tow package and $65 cargo tray (listed as "no cost").

Burt Honda was by far the best experience I have ever had buying a car. They treated me with respect, listened to my concerns, didn't jump up and tell me my figures on their wholesale price and dealer holdback were wrong (like other dealers have done when I was negotiating) and were just very pleasant to deal with. Even my daughter agreed that the sales experience at Burt was the best of the three. They're 50 miles from our house but I would definately go back for another car.

One note: I had a pad with three pages of "figures" and information that I consulted throughout. I also brought along a calculator. Whenever a salesman left us with a "wait here" at any dealership, I immediately picked up my cell phone, consulted my pad and "called" another dealer while I waited, punching in numbers on my calculator. This was my attempt to show that I would not be held hostage to the "wait here" control trick and that by leaving me alone, they were actually encouraging me to deal with other dealerships -- from their own showroom. It put the shoe on the other foot, in my opinion. Rather than me negotiating for a car that might be sold to someone else at any minute, they were negotiating with a customer who might make a deal with someone else at any minute.

I have been pretty much locked a deal for EX-L from one dealer. I am talking possible 2.9%APR. One dealer offer me $100 lower than others. But the catch is I have to buy it by tonight. Another one can hold me this price for a week. The best APR I could get from my credit union is 4.25%. The interest difference for 4.25 and 2.9 for 60 months is $725 if I finance for $20,000. I need your guys' opinion. Should I wait for possible 2.9% APR (no one know for sure) or should I take advatange of this $100 for sure and go with 4.25%? Really a standoff for me.
  • pilotbondpilotbond Member Posts: 1
Thanks to everyone on this forum. Decided to with Pilot rather than an MDX.

After internet quotes, I got a final price of $30,250 (incl dest) from Capitol Honda.

I got quotes for a couple of hundred dollars more from Autowest Fremont. Talked to Stevens CReek and Anderson and they said they will beat Autowest by $100 or at least match it.

I also bought Honda Care extended 7/75K for $990.00 since I plan to keep this a while. The finance pushed all the other warranties but I just said no.

Just wanted to share a super deal I just put together and took delivery on 4/27/05 in Boston/Providence area. 05' Pilot EX-L RES Nighthawk Pearl with Grey leather $29,900 --- this price includes doc prep! (usually $198 extra). Only extra was sales tax (5%) title ($50) and transfer ($15). Deals can be had and its fun to deal!

    All,

I want to share the final numbers for the Pilot lease deal I signed today. I started at several phone quotes for 36 month/36K mile lease for $425/month and security deposit. I ended with a monthly payment of $398 (incl. taxes and title) and no money down. As I signed the paperwork, I was still wondering if I could have shaved $10-15 off the monthly payment. However, I was shooting for under $400 and so I feel no buyer's remorse.

A few thoughts on this process that may be of interest to readers/writers in this forum. First, using the internet is a great way to do this. One saves an enormous amount of time by not driving around to all the dealerships. Further, because you don't have to sit and do the salesman to finance manager "bump and grind", you don't feel the need to capitulate and accept a deal you don't want because you've invested hours sitting in the showroom. Second, the sales people know you have the ability to shop with the click of the mouse and they don't jack you around with artificially high starting quotes so they can wear you down. I had three different dealerships emailing me asking "how can I earn your business?"

So, my take on this is to educate oneself on the general market for the vehicle you want, fire quote requests to dealers in the area, and work with those that show promise. This may be self-evident to those of you on this forum who have done this several times. It was new for me and I liked the way it turned out. Thank you to those that shared information and advice. Good luck to those in the purchasing process.

Well, we finally bought it :)

2005 Black/Saddle Pilot EXL with wood trim, chrome side steps, lower trim, fog lights, cargo cover, exhaust finisher, cargo cover, back up sensors, wheel locks, splash guards, and cross bars.

I want to thank everyone on the board, especially PhamJ for his tip about Spirit Honda in California giving $1000 off invoice.

    Here's how I did it:

I first emailed 6 or so dealers I would most likely buy from for their price on the EXL with the accesories we wanted. I asked for a breakdown per accesory and final drive out price. (bewteen $35,000 and $37,000)

I took all those replies and created a spreadsheet, listing the information, and comparing it the MSRP (Honda website). Options MSRP was $3015. I subtracted the intsalled options price from the MSRP to get the "installation cost" per item ($40 to install the cargo cover!, took me 5 minutes). Total installation charges ranged from $1100 to $1600. (Note my previous post about options pricing)

This way, I could compare who was cheapest for each individual item, and the cheapest install charge per item. (it was interesting that the prices varied widely per item, but over all, they were very close in summation).

I then came up with my "ideal price" (Spirit Honda $1000 off invoice + cheapest option + cheapest install charge). I calculated TTL, and came up with a drive out price = $34,500.

In Houston, no one is coming close to $1000 off invoice, but a couple are giving $28,800 ($700 off). Most refused to go below invoice at all. And the majority are refusing to deal on the accesories. Just for good measure, I knocked another $250 off the $34,500 to make it drive out at $34,250. I reasoned that with over $3000 in accesories, they were making a hefty profit anyway, I could get them to deal on the install charges).(See my previous post)

I emailed 15 dealerships bewteen Houston and San Antonio and Austin, asking their best price, and giving them an exact breakdown of the numbers above. (Was about a page long, walking them through the above step by step).

Majority refused to deal on $34,250. Russel and Smith, whose tagline on each email is "We will not be undersold!!" Was.

Long story short, David McDavid and Gillman Fort Bend came closest to $34,250 (but did not reach it), Gillman Fort Bend beat David McDavid, and was closer.

I can't divulge the final drive out price, beacuse I promised them I would not reveal it, but it was around my ideal price point.

Gillman Fort Bend went the extra mile, I mentioned it was an early Mother's Day gift, they printed a "Happy Mothers Day" sign for my wife, and had a rose waiting in the car for her, then spent an hour an a half going over the fine points of the car. Told them wednesday it was done deal, they installed everything by friday night, without asking for a deposit. I signed the papers on friday in 15 minutes, and we picked it up on saturday. Both of the Internet salesman were courteous and professional. Got 4.3% from Honda Finance. Finance guy tried the sell for warranty, life insurance, etc, for about two minutes, told him I was not interested, and we moved on.

Would defintely recommend Gillman Fort Bend. Goodson West came close, but way out there. Russel Smith, John Eagle, Honda Clear Lake , Woodlands, Kingwood refused to deal. Austin guys wanted over invoice (different market?) (i never mentioned I lived in Houston to them).

By the way, it looks awesome! :)

taxes depend on where you live, not where the dealership is.

buying the exteded warranty up front and incorporating it into your loan only adds to the weight of it. You are paying interest on something you can't even use for 3 years. That will exceed the $60 you think you are saving up front. And if you think it helps your resale value think again - it will depreciate like everything else.

I applaud the prices many are negotiating, but the extended warranty up front is a waste imo.

we can think whatever we like, but some people like knowing that its taken care of and they can pay it off in easy installments. you aren't going to change their minds. People are adding accessories to their cars and financing those, too, and that typically adds zero to resale, so why should warranties be any different?

and, of course, there is still the added benefit of roadside assistance from the getgo when you purchase the warranty up front. So, again, its not exactly "something you can't use for 3 years."

Just trying to figure out what I should expect to pay for Title/Registration/Documentation fees.

Could those who have recently purchased in NJ tell me what they paid?

NJ DMV says that a new car Registration is $81 and Title is $40. While I understand that a dealer has some overhead, do not understand why I'm seeing prices quoted on this forum for Title/ Registration/Documentation fees (ranging from $250 - $700.)

    Am I missing something?
    Thanks in Advance

I also just bought an EX-L Nav in the Hartford area. Yes, they tried to sell me the extended warranty with the same terms as you describe. They did this after telling me how reliable the car is and why I should buy from them and not from another local dealer who would extend my warranty for 12 months/12,000 miles.

I decided to skip the extended warranty and decided that if I invest the $1,395 + tax I may be in just as good of a position. I also don't know that I'll keep the car for 7 years.

Would appreciate any info or insight into this deal on Long Island, NY. Civic was stolen and totaled and looking at an 05 Pilot EX-L, 12K per year for 36 months. Dealer has quoted me a price of 410 a month, including an installed alarm system on top of standard security system, and sign and drive in terms of down payment. Therefore just pay 1st month payment of 410 and drive it off the lot. Does this sound reasonable ????

Does anyone know if the new Pilots are coming with the pseudofake leather/plastic binder/folder thingy for holding your owners manual and other papers?

My 98 Accord has one, but when we picked up the Pilot this weekend, all the papers were in a ziplock baggy.

    Thanks
