Th following is a paragraph from a message posted May 2nd:

"I want to share the final numbers for the Pilot lease deal I signed today. I started at several phone quotes for 36 month/36K mile lease for $425/month and security deposit. I ended with a monthly payment of $398 (incl. taxes and title) and no money down. As I signed the paperwork, I was still wondering if I could have shaved $10-15 off the monthly payment. However, I was shooting for under $400 and so I feel no buyer's remorse."

There was a Honda Corp. lease financing program that expired on the 2nd of May but I suspect you could get at least as good a deal as the one described above. The only difference between the deal described above and the one you describe, other than the monthly payment, is the extra security alarm. If you need this then you may pay more. If you don't, I would go online and request quotes from other dealers and shop online until you get a payment under $400 per month.

I'm trying to hold out for another 2.9% APR offer. Does anyone know if the 2.9% offer was up to 60 months? Also, I just received an offer for a Pilot LX for $24,302 (includes destination charge) but I'm not sure about title & registration. It doesn't include taxes.

I'm not in a rush to purchase one, but I know this may be a really good deal.
  • lxlxlxlxlxlx Member Posts: 12
Where did you get this 2.9% APR? From Honda? If you are waiting for 2.9% APR which will appear sometime but very much rarely, you would have a hard time to get a better price.

Per posts in early April, it appears Honda was offering a 2.9% APR - I think it may have ended first or second weekend in April.
  • lxlxlxlxlxlx Member Posts: 12
    Paid $28,738 + $100 doc + Tax+$25 title.

So far, so good. Only got 4.25% from my credit union.

It didn't take too long for dealer to compete to each other.

    Pilotguy,
I was just over at Coast Honda in Wall today. Of course I just read your email after I got home. Who was your salesman, or did you get that price through dealing with them through the internet?

I am trying to lease a Pilot EX-L. Do any of you know if the lease specials will be dramatically lower during the Memorial Day sales?
  • nwpilotnwpilot Member Posts: 15
I am looking to buy an EX-L this summer (the sooner, the better), and my local dealers are not indicating much of a willingness to deal. Has anyone recently purchased in the Northwest (Portland, Seattle, Salt Lake, Boise, Reno, etc) and gotten anywhere near the type of deals being reported on the east coast and SoCal?

Honda had a 2.9% special financing for Pilot for last week in March, Post #3673.
I bought Pilot EX-L with 2.9% honda financing for 60 months, post #3725.

what time of the year is it best to buy a new car, (pilot exl of course)
  • mydalrileymydalriley Member Posts: 2
Just bought a Black EX-L NAV (saddle) with the following accessories:
    Crossbars
    Rear Splash Guards
    Rear View Camera and Attachment
    All Season Floor Mats
    Cargo Cover
    Cargo Tray
    Interior Bike Rack

    MSRP as configured: $36,399.

Price was $32,525.84 + tax, tags, registration ($3,873.16 under sticker). All accessories installed and destination already included.

I faxed 10 dealerships in a 75 mile radius using retail pricing on the accessories from cheaphondaparts.com as the accessories' invoice costs. The winning dealer hit the "invoice" cost on the fax. One dealership wouldn't sell the accessories as "you seem to be able to get them for less than we can"!!! Yeah right!

    Other prices were:
    $33,399.12 (accessories installed)
    $31,500 w/o accessories
    $33,603 (accessories installed)

The dealer I did the test drive with said he couldn't get within $900 of the price I was given (not accounted for above).

    So there you go.

Hard to ever know for sure what car dealers might do. However, the Honda Motors website has now posted to the lease and financing deals for May and the Pilot deal appears to be identical to the deal that was running in April and ended May 2nd. The current rates are for an EX, not an EX-L, but I believe the money factors used for either model would be the same. They were when I was getting quotes in pursuit of a Pilot lease last month. The new financing runs for two months or so, I can't remember exactly.

Based on all this, one could speculate that you would expect to be quoted the same sort of lease deals that others have posted recently in this forum.

    Good Luck.

    Hello everyone!!!
Great forum and tons of great info here... I would appreciate if I could get some help with this... I am thinking of getting the Honda Pilot w/ Nav. Do you think it is a good time to buy or should I just wait for a few months and buy the 2006 model instead? As the posts go, I guess if I try, I can get a price very very close to or at invoice price today for the 2005 model, but do you think it would be possible to get invoice price for a 2006 Pilot in september? As far as changes go, I don't think there would be any major changes as the 2005 has had quite a few changes (right?)...
I was looking at the Lexus RX330 but at about $10K less, the Pilot does seem to be a good deal... I would appreciate any input on this too....

    HELP!!!
    Thanks guys...

I'm kind of in the same boat as you wondering to wait or not (plus I'm still not ruling out the vans).

For the Pilot, the main thing it likely picks up for 2006 is air bags. If you don't have second row occupants, then that isn't a concern.

Other than that, it's supposed to get VCM for 2006, but I'm in the camp that doesn't believe it will buy much for milage (maybe if you live someplace that's flat, has little wind, and drive 55MPH tops...you might save a couple MPG).

2006 will have some restyling though, so I want to see what that will be. Supposedly the interior had to change a little to get the air bags in there (conjecture from some "Honda" enthusiast sites"). And the leather is supposed to be better quality for 2006. It's only a few months out, so I think I'll wait. I'm not worried about pricing increase, since the market is so competitive. I don't think Pilot will make any big market share jump, though it is possible that Honda will build less since the demand isn't quite as high as what they were building to.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know if I should wait another few weeks for the holiday sales or not. I had a dealer in Jersey give me an e-mail quote for 36 months, 12k per year, $2000 up front and a $324 monthly for an LX. That's the best quote I've gotten thus far.
  • condorllcondorll Member Posts: 1
Your dealer should respect the Honda Lease deal.
    With 2,000 down a Pilot EX is $ 279/month

I leased an EX with $0 down, $550 out the door 36 months 12,000m/yr for $334 + tax

Thanks to everyone on this group for the great info!

Bought a silver EX-L with Navi from San Leandro Honda yesterday. Paid $30,300 + registration/title/tax. Painless transaction. I submitted a query on their website, the internet manager called back and asked about my timeframe, I said I'd buy the same day if she agreed to $30.3K for a silver; she called back within 5 minutes and agreed.

Pleasant experience at the dealer too - they did not push coatings, etc.

Did push the extended warranty - I bought a 7 year/75K warranty for $850; any opinions whether this is a good price, or worth it? I was not sure, but bought it anyway -since I can cancel for an (almost) complete refund in the next few days if I chnage my mind.

Got a quote in the morning from Capitol Honda in San Jose for $30,250, after I told them they had sold one to someone on Edmunds within the last week. They first agreed in the morning to the price & color, and then tried a bait-&-switch in the afternoon, saying they were losing money, could only do $30.6K and not provide the color I want, etc.. Also claimed he'd have to call back even for $30.6K. I got San Leandro Honda in the meanwhile, and said No when they called back with $30.6K and their sob story. Offered the original price right away and "suddenly found a silver" in stock - I was pissed and refused.

Really happy with San Leandro Honda.

    Rahul,
you seem to have got a really nice deal... The extended warranty doesn't sound bad but how much did they want for 7yr/100K? Did you also get any other accessories installed on the Pilot?
    Thanks...
  • panastapanasta Member Posts: 4
Havent done enough research on the lease end but i got a quote for 36 month $369/mo with $3,000 down out-the door for 12k miles per year. $20.257.65 buyout?
What do you guys think? We started at 399/mo and this was their counter-offer. Salesman said it was priced 1k over invoice at 369/month.
    Thanks!!
    Great Board!!
  • panastapanasta Member Posts: 4
antbody know the price for this add on for an EX-L?
I tried to add the option for the TMV price through Edmunds but it doesn't come up
    Thanks!!
  • rbatlantarbatlanta Member Posts: 5
I didn't probe on the 7/100 since my annual mileage is prtty low, but it was in the ~$1200 range if I remember right.

Just for perspective, they claimed the retail price of the warranty to be $2100 and Internet price to be $1600. I refused it. Then, the finance guy claimed there were discounts for AAA members, Amex cardholders and Costco members, which could all be stacked on until May 15th (he claims that Honda Finance is offering discounts for all 3 programs, and normally does not allow multiple discounts, but is doing so as a special until the 15th - don't know the accuracy of this). Sicne I have all three, he showed a price fo $850.

Did not get any accessories since I was in a hurry yesterday; plan to buy cargo cover and wood trim aftermarket. BTW, I di dnot realize floor mats and a cargo net are included.

Also, no financing - the 2.9% is no longer available.

    Hope this helps.

It is about $1500-1700. you may reduced this from quoted price of EX-L RES.

I am also thinking to buy Honda Pilot... want to wait for September to go for new 2006 model.

    Any suggestion..!!

Prior to starting, let me say that I DO remember the definition of an opinion, comparing it to ---.

I WAS in the exact same boat. I leased a 05 EX-L navi for 2 years because
    1. VCM may or may not be a good thing
    2. I would like to see a history of it in the pilot
    3. I wanted voice recognition nav (like MDX) but again, let them have a years experience.
    4. They made me an offer on the exact 05 I wanted and could not refuse. invoice -$500.
    5. It will be up when the 07's are ready to be dealt
    6. I can extend my lease on a month to month basis and wait for the 08 (supposed to be the BIG change

    my $.02s worth : :D

    rbatlanta,

regarding extended warranty, if the contract you got is 7/75k with $0 deductible then $850 is a very good price, but if it is with $50 deductible then it is not a bad price.
    jayhondacare.com cost is $830 with $50 deductible and $895 with $0 deductible.

    Congrat on your new Pilot.

When do they expect to release the 2006 models? For someone looking at only the LX and EX models, is it even worth waiting for?
  • spyderredspyderred Member Posts: 138
I shopped around this weekend and I received the following quotes from 3 different Southern California dealers for an 05 Pilot EXL w/ DVD RES: $30,190 , $30,145, AND $29,995 + TTL. They seemed like excellent prices for the vehicle since they are way below invoice ($30,983). According to Hondapreview.com and other sources, I am debating big time if I should wait for the 06 as it may have some interior and exterior styling changes, possibly new interior leather seating (not perforated), maybe VCM (not sure if this is a good thing or bad), side curtain airbags. I am also hoping that they will offer DVD with the Navigation together. Now, I realize that in September/ October time frame I won't be able to get almost $1,000 below invoice. Any ideas of what kind of pricing will be available for the 06 in September/October timeframe. Maybe the guys that bought the 05 same time last year can share their prices paid. Also, Can anyone confirm if any of the items I listed above as changes for the 06 vs the 05. Also if there is a possibility of Honda offering the Pilot with DVD and Navigation like they offer the Odyssey.

    Thanks,
    Spyderred,

I'm in the same boat. Looking for an EX-L in middle to late May or early June timeframe in the Northwest and haven't seen all that many people buying around here. Does anybody have prices paid for this area or would it be worth the trip to SoCal?
  • spyderredspyderred Member Posts: 138
Every dealer I went to had plenty of Pilot's. Not sure why...maybe Honda produced to many of them and now with the gas prices people are not buying as many SUV's as in the past. Just saw on the news that some guy in Redondo Beach have bought 3 different Toyota Prius vehicles, drove them for a couple of months, then turned around and sold them for $1000-2000 more than he bought them... Very interesting...Who would think that you can make money of buying a new car, driving it for a little while then sell it for more money... Only in Southern California.

I haven't bought one yet, but I plan to before the end of May (actually an EX-L). I'll be sending out quote requests next week, and I fully expect a drive to Louisville (Swope Honda) is in my future. None of the dealerships in Indianapolis have a reputation for making great deals (and by a great deal I mean anything under invoice). I'll still give them a shot, but I'm not expecting much.

    Rahul,
that is so sweet you got to tell the bait and switch dealer they lost the deal.
I've had the same thing happen to me with Capitol Honda and they had the nerve to try and get me to take their offer after all their BS.

I have no personal experience with them, but I've been reading these boards for the last few months and they seem to have a reputation for making a good deal without a lot of hassle.

I have some questions about your Tempe purchase for an EX-L at $28,783. Was destination included? Any hidden fees? I received a quote from them for $29,689. Way too high. Did they give you a lower quote and then you countered and met at $28783 ? I received quotes of $29190, $29280, $29389 and the other 5 were even higher. Your purchase will be about a month after mine and there are many Pilots on the lots plus the 2006's will be out soon. Any advice would be nice.
If there are any other Phoenix people out there please let me know what the scoop is.

Today I received this message from a Honda dealer:

Thanks again for the interest in a 2005 Pilot EXL. I have this model and colors in stock . AHFC has a low interest APR program in effect this month as low as 1.9% (OAC) . Please keep me informed of your intentions.....

    I have three questions:

    1) What does "OAC" stand for?
    2) Is anyone aware of this financing incentive? I could not find it on edmunds.com or the Honda website. There is a Pilot lease special and financing on the Accord and Civic, but not the Pilot. Am I missing something here?
    3) How tough is it to qualify for these financing specials. Are they nearly impossible?

    Thanks for your help.

If it is true, it is not that hard to get. But I really doubt about it is for element. Good luck.

Reposting my earlier post which I posted 2 weeks back.
    ------------------------------------
I would highly recommend Right Honda and Internet/Fleet Dept.
Here is the summary. Took delivery from Right Honda in
Scottsdale, Phoenix, Arizona. EarnHard Honda at Avondale also came pretty
close but is kind of aggressivein their approach.

Whole process including the test drive took less than 2 hours.
Car had 16 miles on it and they threw in the pinstripes, wheel locks
    and Front Tints
    Price including destination 28,850.74
    Sales Tax 7.95% 2,293.63
    Doc Fee 89.90
    Registration 560.73
    Tire Fee 5.00
Out of the door Price 32,000 ( I wish I am living in some state where
taxes are a max of $300!!!!!!!)
    -----------------------------------------------------
I also got the 2.9% Honda Financing. btw I took delivery 5 weeks back

I plan on financing about $20K for a 05 EXL and paying cash for the remaining (@ $10-11K). How do you think a dealer would respond if I wanted to put that on a credit card (for the air miles)?
    Thanks
    Jason
  • srl99srl99 Member Posts: 37
An experienced finance manager will have seen the request to put part of the
purchase price on a credit card for the purpose of earning the cr. card reward.

The merchant needs to pay a % of the charge to the cr. card/bank as a fee -
that's real cash that comes out of the dealer's pocket. So the amount they
will allow depends on their fee %, and how many $$'s they are willing to give up.

My advice - aggressively negotiate a cash price, and skip the air miles (not
necessarily worth 2-3% of the principal).

From a prior post - I suspect AHFC is American Honda Finance ... Their
public deals should be well documented on the Honda website, I would suspect
that there are various incentives/sweeteners offered to particular dealers. In addition,
just like a mortgage, a car loan's rate can be "bought down" (think points on
a mortgage) whether by the dealer or the buyer.

    --SRL
  • coperniccopernic Member Posts: 3
    Thanks,
It sounds like the dealer will see the credit card fee % as part of their bottom line OTD price. Aggressive price negotiation may nulify any wiggle room for a credit card purchase just like it would for a "cash back" promotion or 0% financing and the like. Am I correct on this?
    Jason
  • srl99srl99 Member Posts: 37
You are correct. Now, there's a chance the dealer finance guy won't be bothered
by a couple of percent of a portion of the sales price - you can always try.

Watch out for doc fees - which are pure dealer profit. I've often had fun w/ dealers
by telling them to skip the doc fee, as I will do the doc's myself. In many states
the dealer is required by LAW (DMV, etc.) to do the doc's!

In our case they tried to add a $45 doc fee at the absolute last moment of the
deal - we refused and walked out. It was fun to watch the finance manager run
after us into the parking lot and "waive" the fee. I wouldn't have begrudged them
the $45 but I don't condone trying to pull a fast one.

The dealer charades we encountered were documented in a customer complaint
case to Honda - which seemingly died on the vine. Why a quality manufacturer
allows themselves to be represented in a less then quality way, I don't know.

    --SRL
  • coperniccopernic Member Posts: 3
    Thanks,
I'll propose it but I'm not sure how much leverage I'll have.

Regarding doc fees. All the dealerships I've been dealing with have been upfront. All are ranging from $49 - $119. I understand the buyer tends to have little negotiating room regarding these and should be expected along w/ destination charge.

    Regards and thanks
