Did you find out where he got the Honda Care from?
If you did, would you please share the info?

    Thanks,

Since I've appreciated the insight gained on Pilot pricing in this forum, I thought I'd relate my own experience for any interested viewers in Phoenix region. I sent web inquiries to 5 area Honda dealers but only 2 actually responded with immediate interest from their Internet sales office. Both dealers in the East Valley offered price quotes that were exactly the same to the dollar, one thru Costco link and the other thru Edmunds site. I visited both while the wife decided on which color and we had our first good test drive. Honda Cars of Mesa wouldn't budge on their first offer thru the Costco program. Superstition Springs Honda came down to meet my counter offer of over $500 less. Ended up at:
Pilot EX cloth retail = 30635 with dest.
    paid $27000 + TTL
HondaCare 7yr/75k came down to meet the Curryhonda deal at $945
I was pretty happy with this deal, but unfortunately they gave me a bit of a hassle with the finance side. Made us sign a backup finance deal even though we were paying cash with claim we'd get the voided papers 2 days later when the check cleared the bank. Then....it was 10 working days later and they wouldn't respond to phone calls. We had the car but I don't trust dealer finance offices to not double dip "by mistake". It worked out OK in the end but blemished an otherwise smooth deal. If you are going to finance anyway, these folks were offering 4.99% after the special Honda corp financing had been withdrawn.

    Trade Value: $ 0.00
    Tax Credit: $ 0.00
    Tax 8.0%: $ 2016.00
    Trade Pay-Off: $ 0.00

BYZY, Great price on the EX-L. I was equally as successful thanks to this site. I brought printouts from this site and internet quotes from the best dealer, which allowed me to get the best deal..

EX-L (Pearl Black with light interior) price breakdown:
    base price: $28324
    destination $515
    wheel locks $79
"Total purchase price" on invoice is $28,918

    Processing fee: $279
Tax (depends on locality) $925 in Fairfax, VA
    Title & Tags: $57
Total Out The Door "Delivered Price" on invoice is $30,179

If you are in NORTHERN VIRGINIA, go to BILL PAGE HONDA on route 50. You must see the internet salesman at the show room to get this deal. Print this out and show it to him, he will match this deal. I have learned that internet purchasers are saving at least $1000 more than those that walk into the showroom without this info. If you see a lower base price than $28,324 anywhere, make sure to print it out. They will be compelled to match it.

Also, the 2.9% financing is available, but some dealers will not admit that they offer it unless you push (my sales guy was not aware until I asked him to check before I signed the deal). I suggest that you confirm that the 2.9% is available BEFORE discussing price. I have experienced that if you negotiate a great price on the front end, the financing people will try to get it back (this happened at Ford once.)

Good luck. Remember, Bill Page Honda. Never go to Rosenthal - they are infamous here.
  • lxlxlxlxlxlx Member Posts: 12
But I was told 2.9% for pilot ended up by april 4th.
  • buck0086buck0086 Member Posts: 52
When you mention printing out offers, are you saying to print out these very pages with the info on it and then show it to the dealers? Thanks for the clarification.
  • timetodueltimetoduel Member Posts: 4
    Answering the last 2 questions:
    1) I received 2.9% yesterday, so the rate is still valid. When I asked about the rate (which I had seen on this site and also on an internet quote 2 days ago. The internet quote had the car price, so I had to reply asking about financing to each of the quoting dealers. One of them responded with "4.5% or so" and the other said 2.9%. I showed the salesperson the quote and also suggested that he look on this site.), the saleperson checked with the manager, who said that they had a "memo" (presumably from corporate) that indicated that the rate was in fact still valid.

    2) Yes, print out the page with the best pricing since it can help you. The more documentation on pricing, the better your negotiating position. My tactic is to first tell them how much research I have done and how many offers I have received so that they will not try to highball me. This way, they will give me their best internet price (you must talk to the internet salespeople). Finally, if their price is not the lowest, I show only the best documented price that I have received and insist that they at least match it.

However, before talking price, get the financing issue at least verbally agreed to and the pricing for the options on paper since the dealers will often look for ways to recoup margins with these items after you get a great price.

    Good luck.
  • timetodueltimetoduel Member Posts: 4
I spoke with the finance manager today, who confirmed that the 2.9% pricing did end April 4th, but was then extended. The extension is not being publicized, but it is available at least until next weekend.

Can you tell us more about Honda Care. So far, at least me experience with extended warranty, I think it is waste of money. They would not cover things that break most often. Is Honda Care diffent?

I am happy to finally see someone from Phoenix on the board. I have been looking and waiting to pounce on a great deal in the next month. I have been looking at the EX-L. It looks like you paid about $600 under invoice for your EX. What price did you start at ? Any concerns when dealing with Superstition Springs ? I don't mind going anywhere to deal. Showcase, Tempe, Bell, or even Earnhardt on the far west side.
Any experience with accessories ? I want to get a cargo cover, crossbars, and cargo mat. They want way too much for them. The internet has them for less and I figure I will see if a dealer will deal for near cost on a few items to make me happy or close a deal.
Was the internet a good way to go ?
  • azpilotazpilot Member Posts: 2
I started right at invoice ($27530) with my EX purchase and was able to get Superstition Springs Honda down to the final deal....Mesa Honda wouldn't budge.
The Internet Mgr. at SSH was not too interested in negotiating any accessory add -ons. Rather than buy from them at list price + installation charges (on running boards for example) I ordered the accessories on the Internet from Right Honda in Scottsdale and picked them up to save shipping charges. Got pretty good discounts from Right for both the cargo cover and cargo mat plus other stuff
  • phamjphamj Member Posts: 13
I just got my 2005 Pilot EX-L from Spirit Honda in El Monte for $28,500
destination fee included. I also got the following accessories included
: cross bars, wheel locks, mud guards and cargo cover.
    Other cost as follow:
    Doc prep fee $45
    Sale tax $2354
    Licence fee $246
    Registration/Transfer/Tiitling fee $8.75

I also purchased the Honda Care 7yr/100000 miles $0 deductible for
    $1200
I showed the dealer the pricing that I had printed from
    jayhondacare.com

I did not see any 2.9% financing for Pilot from Honda website . Maybe I
    missed it.
Anyway I got 3.99% from my Credit Union.

I started my purchasing task by using Honda website to locate Honda
dealers within 30 miles of my zip code. I sent quote request to all these
dealers. I received quotes from 14 dealers . Other dealers would only
say to bring in any quote and they will beat it. I did not trust those
    dealers too much.

After a week of forwarding quotes from one dealer to another so that
they try to beat the other dealer quote. The three lowest quotes I got
are as follow (all included destination fee)
    Kaiser Brothers Honda $28,609
    Spirit Honda $28,588
    Colonial Honda $ 28,315

I contacted the internet sale rep at Colonial Honda in Glendale to make
sure that thay have the Black/Gray Pilot that I want and to arrange a
time to meet the next day. When I came in the next day, the sale rep was
not there and the dealer was having a hard time getting in touch with
this person. I showed the sale manager the quote I got from the internet
sale rep. He look at the quote and disappeared for about ten minutes,
when he came back he said that they had just sold that car last night.
Somehow I don't believe what he said. I told him that I was disappointed
at the way this dealer is doing business and that I would NOT recommand
    anyone to do business here.

Next, I went to Spirit Honda in El Monte. I met with the internet sale
rep who I had talked with on the phone. They have the Black/Gray Pilot
I wanted and even though this car has accessories mentioned above
already installed , they did not try to make me pay additional cost. The
sale manager even took $88 off the quoted price and give me the cargo
cover for free. Overall, it was quite a pleasant car buying experience.
I would highly recommand Spirit Honda. If you are shopping for a Honda,
contact Spirit Honda internet sale rep.

Phamj, That is the best deal I have seen so far. Congrats!

By the way, Rosenthal (the dealer that I won't ever buy from) just sent me an email with the following extracted deal on financing.

"All 2005 Pilot models - $750 below Invoice
These special prices are only available for in stock units.

    SELECT ODYSSEY MODELS AT INVOICE

LOW A.P.R. OF 1.9% AVAILABLE ON SELECT MODELS WITH APPROVED CREDIT"

    ===

Perhaps this will be useful in your negotiations. Had I waited just two days more, I could have bettered my 2.9% deal, which is still ongoing at least til next weekend.
  • path4path4 Member Posts: 24
Shoud I be shamed of myself ? Did everybody really get $1000 below invoice ? This is a "final" quote from a dealer,

    --------------
    Dear ...,
Yes, Will do it for 25300.00 You WIN. Lets GO!! But Please accept our humble appreciation for the offer, however, at this time (i.e.: approaching the best six selling months of the year) and considering that our normal Internet price is on average $400 over invoice (which is far below Edmunds, Kelly, NADA, and Consumer Reports) we'll pass.
    -------------

You see, it is $25,300 + TTL.

I hope more LX owners could post their experiences. It seems that you are all interested in EX.
  • sksjedisksjedi Member Posts: 33
Anyone know what current invoice prices are?

    I got this from Cars.com:

    Base Price $32,320 /Invoice Price $29,074
    Destination $515
    Total Price $32,835 / Total Invoice $29,589

Is this accurate? If so, then Phamj got an awesome $1000 below invoice. More if you count the cross bars/wheel locks/cargo cover/splash guards ($300).

E-mailed back and forth with a couple of friendly local dealers, but haven't seen any great bargains so far. Perhaps someone has had a good experience?

I am also looking for deals in Philly/South Jersey. So far I have contacted 6 dealerships in Philly area asking point blank to agree to the 2.9% financing that appears to be out there and the final price of $28,125 for EX w/Leather. The offer is 3% under invoice and from my research seems to be a fair deal. Any luck on your end? Keep posting on this site to see who has the best deal. I'm looking to get one in the next 2 weeks. Any one else have any recommendations on this approach?
  • colbakecolbake Member Posts: 4
BTW - contacted the 6 dealerships via internet. Mainline Honda appeared to flat out reject the offer, but I came back to them saying I would be in that day if they agreed and to get back to me. Scott Honda internet sales guy contaced me with a host of questions asking me where I got the price from and said I was very direct. He said he'll look into it after I told him I know the owner and his son for the Scott dealership (which I do and backed up with facts). We'll see...

    path4,

I went back and check the email with quotes from Spirit Honda, El Monte , Calif.
2005 Pilot LX is $24,502 ( $515 destination fee included in this price).
I don't pay much attention to what invoice cost is. I received several quotes below invoice
for my EX-L as I said in my message posted earlier. I'm sure dealers make profit somehow
or they will go out of business.

If you like, I can forward the email with quotes so that you can show the dealer in New Orleans . Lots of dealers offer to sell cars below invoice.

We bought an Odyssey this weekend from Hugh White Honda in Columbus, Ohio. It was such a smooth, up-front deal at a great price that I wanted to share this information with other Honda models shoppers. I have absolutely no personal or business tie-in with this dealer or Honda. I negotiated with the internet manager over the phone and he was 100% true to his word throughout the process. The finance manager offered us the Honda Care warranty at a typical dealer price, I pointed out what College Hills Honda is selling warranties for and she met the price with no further discussion. This type of buying experience should be rewarded and that is why I posted this message.
(Details of the deal are on the Odyssey board.)

I think it's important to identify the two different MSRP prices for the Pilot EX-L. Currently, MSRP is $32,320. But prior to March 1 the MSRP was $200 lower ($32,120). This is actually a helpful thing for prospective buyers because if you find a Pilot EX-L with the MSRP price of $32,120 you know it's been sitting on the lot for awhile and the dealer may be more motivated to sell it. This past Sunday, I strolled through a Honda dealer's Pilot inventory and noticed 5 Pilots that were listed at $32,120. I'm hoping one of them is still there in a few months when I'm ready to buy.

Which leads me to another question--what does the dealer consider "normal" as far as the amount of time a vehicle remains on their lot without being sold? (I'll also post this in the car dealer forum.)

Looking to buy EXL-Navigation with the following accessories,

Wood trim kit, wood steering wheel, day/night mirror, mud guards, front bumper trim, color matched side steps, cross bars and back up sensors. Wyler Honda in Cincinnati is quoting me a price of $34,500. This is the lowerst quote I've got of all three dealers. Considering the invoice on this vehicle is around $30,500 the price seems high. ($4500 worth of accessories?0 Does this seem like a good deal? The dealer said only other costs would be Tax, Title and License with a APR OF 3.99 if credit standing is high. Thoughts?

    Phamj,

I would really appreciate it if you could forward me your quotes on EXL. If you click on my username above, it will lead you to my edmunds profile, and there it will list my email address. (a bit of work, but an effective way to foil the spam bots).

As a bit of advice to the others posting their email id's: use the format :johndoe>mymail.com. Anyone reading the post will figure out your id, but a spambot will not pick up on the "@" sign

Host: apologies in advance for the slightly off topic post. Cheers :)

Just got an email from Goodson Honda North offering $500 off invoice. Go to there website and request a quote, they will email you the offer.

Still stuck at $4200 for the accesories I want, MSRP is $3100 Parts cost from Internet are are $2200. Still wondering if I should let them have the
$1100 for installation if they will meet me on the parts costs. Thoughts?
  • dinkydinky Member Posts: 5
The accessories I'm looking at are totalling around $4,500 with installation that seems high. I don't know what accessories that you are looking. Where are you finding internet pricing on Honda accessories?

Price the accessories individually on handaaccessories.com or collegehillshonda.com to get an idea of UNINSTALLED prices. Several on your list are costly.

Get prices from more than 3 stores and go outside the Queen City area.

I paid $30,500 ($700 below the then invoice) for my wife's EX-L Nav in 1/05 at Hugh White in Columbus.
  • dinkydinky Member Posts: 5
What accessories do you have? I checked out the Honda Accessories website and got uninstalled prices. I'm not sure what a "reasonable" amount would be for all these accessories. One dealership gave me an installation price of $812 for back up sensors. That seems ridiculous. I lived in Columbus for 34 years. Is Hugh White still located downtown near 71? Thanks.

Hi, I'm looking to buy an EX-L with Navi this month, can anyone please post any recent bay area deals from their experience ? I know the phamj deal in LA area, I doubt the San Francisco area is that good. Thanks a bunch in advance.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
I bought the car with no accessories (already had those wanted).

On the College Hills website, you can take a look at installation instructions. Sometimes, it gets quite involved - there are 18 pages of instructions for installing a back-up camera (and at least one recent poster had a quote of $1300 for it). Like everything else related to a vehicle purchase, accessory prices are generally negotiable.

Hugh White opened a new store just off Georgesville at I-270 in 12/03. The downtown location is now used only for service.

Do a search for Honda Parts, there are a lot of delaers selling them on the web, or just click on the site sponsor above (Not affialleted in any way to me). Pick the accessories you want, add them to your cart, it will list the total price (you don't need to buy). Then go to the dealer and ask him what the price for the parts are installed. I then subtracted that totall installed price from the MSRP located on the honda pilots website (build and price) The difference should be your installation charge. That way you have four numbers to work with, parts only, honda msrp, and dealer installed price., and installation charges.

I don't thonk I am allowed to post the names of the sites I used, but the edmunds site is a good place to start.

Thanks to the great info on this board, I felt very confident going into the dealer and negotiating. Hopefully the below will help someone else out in the tri-state area (NY/NJ/CT). Here's what we just drove home with...

EX-L (Billet Silver w/ grey interior) price breakdown:
    base price: $28385
    destination $515
    Total Price: $28,900

    Inspection: $20
    Dealer doc prep Fee $67.50
Tax (depends on locality) $1734 in Danbury, CT
    Title & Tags: $86
Total Out The Door price: $30,807.50

HIGHLY recommend Brewster Honda on Rt. 6/202 in Brewster NY, just south of Interstate I-84. Used Internet Sales Dept. rep and settled on price inside of 10min.

Started w/best internet quote of 28,999 (inc. destination) from Fair Honda in Danbury - and negotiated $100 lower. Wouldn't budge on accesories or financing (offered 5.99% for 60mos), went through credit union and will get accesories online.

I live just across the boarder in Danbury, CT, and thus paid lower CT sales tax of 6%. Service dept. is top notch w/10% off all parts and free loaner cars for vehicles purchased there...

    Cheers,

Just purchased an EXL from Tempe Honda. Paid $28,783 ($800 under invoice) with no add ons. Great experience except for the warranty. I reasearched everything very well except for the warranty prices. They charged us a high price for the United Auto Care Warranty so we cancelled it today. We may buy an Honda Care warranty in the next year.

What price has anyone paid in the Dallas, TX area for a Pilot EX-L. So far the best quote I have gotten is $30,000 including destination charge. I am just starting my search and have seen a number of posts in other parts of the Country indicating a price of about $29,000 including destination charges. Has anyone in the Dallas area gotten better than $30,000?

I'm very impressed and excited about the price people are paying for their new Pilot's but surprised to see many smart shoppers opting to purchase an extended warratny for another $1000 or more.

Why would you lay out $1,000 or more for something that has no value for 3 years or more? Is there something in particular that worries you about the Pilot beyond the 3 year 36,000 mile warranty?

I just booked a Black Pilot LX at Greenwich Honda at $24,515. The other charges are

    578.00 backup sensors
    338.00 security system
    139.00 title fee
    xxx.xx taxes @ x%
    250.00 out-of-CT plates ( possible to refund $100 )

Other dealers within 30miles are not willing to match that price.

They probably have a hard time to sell honda cars there, which may depreciate the owner's house values. But the negotiation process was simple and straightforward. They just accepted my offer and gave me the out-of-door price accordingly. Highly recommend Greenwich Honda if you are in that area.

There are pros and cons to EWs - also as to when exactly to buy one. Given the cost of parts and labor, it is not surprising that they hold appeal for many. I don't believe anyone has any particular concerns about the Pilot but the cost of driveline repairs for any all-wheel drive system can be off the scale.

Although not much discussed, they certainly enhance a vehicle's value if sold during the EX period.

I am looking to purchase Pilot EX-L Navi in Sage Brush

No dealer in my area can seem to find one, one dealer agreed to match my offer of $300 over invoice but only for one on there lot which of course is not the right color. They said they could "order" one from the factory but want me to pay $900-$1100 OVER invoice! I think that is crazy! or is it just me. (This price also includes there $695 dealer appearance package (mud guards as well as pin stripes, fabric protection and paint sealant).

SHould I have to pay the penalty or more cost to order because they cannot locate one? :(

Can anyone share there purchase experience in the Florida/Alabama area?
  • aspesisteveaspesisteve Member Posts: 833
do you think the ew enhances the value of the vehicle beyond the cost of the warranty itself? I can't imagine it having an equal value. Are you providing the buyer anything he can't go buy himself?

Why not wait till your warranty expires, or comes close to expiring before buying it?
