Looking for current pricing on Pilot EX and EX-L in Southern California - having trouble getting internet quotes from local dealers.

    Thanks!

    Hello all,

Anyone have prices for a 2005 EX-L or EX-L with Nav. for the Seattle Washington Area?
I was wondering what the going rate is now that it's almost 2006. Does anyone know if it's better to do the Costco Program or is negotiating better?

    Thanks!

    Bought a EX-L last weekend:

    selling price 27,818
    internet fee 125
    doc fee 55

    + tax, licence plates

But CD-changer doesn't work at all !! They have to replace it. Took it in today and need to take it in again on Friday when they get the part.

    Quite disappointed.

First of all, thanks for everyones info. There seems to be alot of disparity in pricing for all regions of the country...Live in midlands of South Carolina and just purchased an EX-L w/ Navigation for 30,400 all prices included, ie. destination and taxes ....wrote a check...no trade-in...out the door...thanks again for your help, feel like I recieved a good price, guess thats all that matters!

How much is the tax in SC? Seems like an awfully good deal. I am getting a best quote of 29,384 (excluding tax, title and registration) for the same vehicle. And the tex here in NYC is a mind boggline 8.625%.
    Thanks.
  • tandy_13tandy_13 Member Posts: 43
How was your buying experience from Academy Honda? You seem to have gotten a good deal. Also did you enquire about the EX-L with navigation.Thanks.
  • tandy_13tandy_13 Member Posts: 43
Did u also pay the destination fee of $515? And how was your buying experience at Hillside. I have a quote of 29,624 for EX-L with navigation (which is about $300 more than the one I got from Open Road Honda). But somebody here seemed to have a bad experience with Open Road Honda.
    Thanks.

Good deal; can you break the price down and tell what dealer you used?

    Thanks

Last week I purchased a EX-L Red w/ tan leather. I got them down to 29,500 out the door. No trade, no finance. After working the phone and the internet, that seemed to be the best I could find. Hope this is a good data point for those still looking. This forum helped a lot in getting ready to pull the trigger so thanks for everyones input.

Can you please provide the name and location of the dealership? Did you have to do a lot of haggling or was it painless? Thanks!

Does anyone know the current money factor and residual for a 45K/3yr lease for the Honda Pilot 2005 LX? Thanks
  • clarkemmclarkemm Member Posts: 2
I purchased it at Fairfax Honda, you can track them down online. Their internet price was pretty close, I just called and asked for a few hundred dollar "trim." They balked, I hung up...they called back. Once I got there it was very painless. They have/had a great selection so I felt out other dealers first (that I didn't mind annoying) to see what their hang up number was so that when it came time to deal with Fairfax, I knew I was in the ballpark. Hope this helps.

I'm currently working a deal via email in Erie, PA on an '05 EX-L w/ DVD. He's at $31,995 plus tax and title. Is this a good deal or could I get better? If there is a Leasing guru out there, what would be a fair price per month for the Pilot at $31,995 to lease. I feel I can get a better deal, but I'm confused with the leasing aspect of it. Any help is appreciated.

    Roggie1,
We got our steel blue '05 EX Pilot with cargo map, mud flaps, with no problem from a NJ dealer ship for 26.090. My husband is a truckdriver and he pulled the truck over offered the price with no negotiating and the dealer took it! The guy had it waiting for me the next day! The dealerships in PA gave me such run arounds via internet. I am glad to hear you have your pilot. I LOVE MINE!
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
$31,995 for an EX-L w/DVD sounds high by a couple of grand.

If you're in NW PA, it might be worth your while to try some of the competitive stores in NE Ohio. Folks have reported good prices at Jay Honda in Cleveland, College Hills Honda in Wooster, The Honda Store in Youngstown, Park Honda or Mike Pruitt Honda in Akron, and Classic Honda in Streetsboro, among others.

You might also check Honda's website and this weekend's major area dailies for lease info.

    GTXCARL...

NO offence to NJ Pilot lovers.... (SMILE)
We had no grief with any of the dealers we contacted in either state. It just seemed more convenient to get tags, etc in state. I'm glad you got your Pilot. We absolutely are in love with ours... We had planned to "settle" for a Ford Explorer because of all the incentives Ford offered. We are so glad we found the Pilot.

roggie1, my story is the exact same as yours, except I paid $25,900 (including destination) + tax/fees in Elmhurst, IL. I am so happy with my black 2005 Honda Pilot EX!

WARNING - Bring a copy of the internet offer that the dealership e-mailed you. The guy at the place I went to wouldn't honor the offer until I produced a hardcopy of it.

Not sure about EX/EX-L but I bought LX last Sun, 7/31, $1,844 below invoice at Honda Santa Ana. They traded the silver LX from another dealer in OC. Price was $23,476 and $25,548 out the door with all fees/license/tax.

They were trying to sell 300 cars in July and very eager to give the best deal on 7/31. Internet sales was Ty but he is on vacation this week. I warned them up front about no BS charges and sure enough they didn't even try to push other charges on me or finance since I paid with cash.

Costco dealers in Orange County and Ontario were quoting only $500 below invoice. Weseloh (Costco dealer) and Power Costa Mesa both came to as low as $1,650 below invoice.

By the way, $1k rebate to dealer got extended to 9/6.

I went to Honda dealer in Bellevue off I90 last week for test drive. I was looking for LX and they had none. The asian sales guy was arrogant and didn't even give effort to sell me the car even though I went there with my family of 4 during weekday.

I'm in the process of relocating back to Orange County after stint at Microsoft so ended up getting nice deal from Honda Santa Ana.

So with the arrogance I experienced, try Costco dealers. Punch in zip code in Bellevue then Puyallup to get more Costco contacts.

    Good Luck

I've seen a lot of postings about good prices in NJ. Does anyone know of any dealers that can compete with these prices on Long Island or in NYC? I live in Nassau County & I'm looking for the EX-L with RES.

Also; any opinions on whether to buy before or after Sept. 6th? Do you think Honda will extend dealer incentive or have better incentive/rebate after Sept. 6?

    Tandy_13,
I had good buying experience at Academy Honda. The sales person is nice and reasonable. No hassle, that's very important.
I did not enquire about the EXL with Nav. Sorry can't help you at this point. I will recommend you to call them to quote the price before you drive there.
    Good luck. :)

I am considering to purchase a EX-L pilot with an "invoice" price listed on Edmunds as $29589, minus $1000 rebate so the "best" without cutting into the dealer hold back will be $28589.

    Taking a 3% holdback on MSRP (~$900) and subtracting from the $28589 = $27689.

I am EXTREMELY surprise that several people here on this board claims that it is possible to buy the EX-L for LESS than $27689!? Isn't that the dealer cost? If not, is the Edmunds site information faulty? And, if it is possible to get that price, how do you do it!?

PLEASE HELP as I'd like to arm myself with the right information before walking into a dealership today!!

    THANKS!!!

    smiles2,
I am in the Boston area. Just signed a contract for an EX-L with running boards,
$30,130 OTD--the color I want arrives next weekend.
Break down includes 27,788 (unit + dest), running Boards 632,
5% tax, doc fees, title and plates. (No trade-in, no dealer financing, no additional deposits.)

Many dealers could not match this--about $2000 below invoice. A couple dealers
claimed that they didn't think it was possible. 3 dealers offered me this price (within $100) via the web. My experience with the dealer closest to me has so far been wonderful.

I don't mean to suggest that this kind of price will always be attainable, but based on my experience I think that you should be able to easily get a vehicle for $1000 below invoice from most dealers--except the ones with serious overhead--IF you work via the Internet sales people. The more competive dealers will probably do a little more than that.

FWIW, I also recieved a quote of EX-L RES for $1000 below invoice.
  • yardcaryardcar Member Posts: 2
See my reply to smiles2 about getting $27,788.
I don't know about anything lower than that, and most dealers weren't willing to do this--3 of 14 were.

I think your chances of getting that price by randomly walking into some dealership are much slimmer. My approach was to negotiate things ahead of time. I tried to make sure that they understood that I didn't want to be played:
    - Don't add any options I don't want!
    - Don't add any strings about trading-in or financing!
    - Show me an itemization of ALL dealer fees and the OTD price so I can make accurate comparisons.
    - I didn't give in when folks asked to be telephoned before providing the info I wanted.
You may need to establish a competive price from one dealer, in order to get others to really give you their best price.
I'm sure it all depends on the number of dealers in your area, how much they've embraced selling via the web, what their overhead is like, etc. etc.

Last week we just purchased a '05 Pilot EX in NJ and were charged $595 for destination charge. At the time, salesman didn't realize the car in the color we wanted had just been sold to someone else, so we signed the deal and he went hunting for our car. Found it and we picked it up today. Now that I am examining all the paperwork at home, I see that the window sticker shows destination & handling charge of $515. This car was at a different dealer's lot, less than an hour away, but could there really be a different destination charge for different county in NJ? On top of that, we were charged the destination charge of $595 PRIOR to the salesman realizing he didn't have a car to sell us in that color on his lot. I'm assuming I need to call the salesman and question this, but wanted to check and see if anyone has info on how they can determine destination charge - if this is legit or not? Thanks.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
    Of course, it's not legitimate.

Why in the world did you wait until you got home to examine the paperwork?

I'm sorry for not showing more sympathy but, really, if you open your wallet while your eyes are closed you will get fleeced.

Haven't gotten a decent enough quote from Academy Honda yet. They are quoting 30,400 for EX-L with Navigation (which is about $1200 more than has been quoted by Route 22 Honda). Anyway its early days yet. Hopefully they will give me a better quote.
  • hdffrhdffr Member Posts: 13
Gryhnd, they seem to have stuck you for an extra $80, talk to the manager and see if that helps. Which dealer was this and what king of price did you get. I've been trying to get internet quotes and the best so far was OpenRoadHonda at 25393 + dest.tax, doc fees, etc.

I just purchased my 2005 Honda Pilot EX-L for a price of $28,605 and drive out was $30,627 from Gillman Honda of San Antonio (Texas). As with any forum, someone's deal will be better than mine, but the ease of the internet purchase which originated through Edmunds, the courtesy of the staff at Gillman's and the overall experience was a "total package" good deal for me.

Per the Forum's rules I cannot say my salesman's name, but that is OK as everyone we came in contact with at the dealership was courteous and professional.

Good luck with you deal. My Pilot is an exceptional choice for my needs.

Purchased a 2005 EX-L Steel Blue in Miami, FL yesterday for $27,706.50 including dealer fee. After taxes and tags, OTD=$29,618.89. I got excellent service and I'm satisfied with the whole experience.
  • yanyan80yanyan80 Member Posts: 5
Route 22 Honda, is it the Planet Honda? I remember the Planet honda is located at route 22. Anyway, if you read my first post, I will not recommend you to go Planet Honda. They tried to sell me a demo car so hard that day. I wasted 4 hours at that dealer.

Why don't you give the price where you quoted from Route 22 Honda to Academy Honda, and ask the sales person if he can match or beat the price. My suggestion is it's not necessary to buy the car from Academy Honda, quote price from different dealers and choose the top 2 or 3 on your list. Give them call and ask each of them to beat or match the best price. Then go pick up your car at the best price one :) Good luck.

Just bought a '05 Pilot EX-L (Nighthawk Black with Gray leather interior) for $27799 inc dest. The total OTD was $30441.

It's a big thanks to you all for sharing your pricing. I spent yesterday morning visiting a couple of dealers in the SF area. They were very rude, would not want to negotiate price, kept adding on 'extra costs', not very helpful at all. After reading these postings I started to use the internet and worked one dealer against the other until I got to the price I wanted.

The dealer winning dealer was easy to work with and friendly. They did try to sell me 4yr/100K extended warranty for $2295! But thanks to this message board I gave it a miss.

    Thanks everyone!

hdffr, yes, the salesman tried to tell me that it is an old sticker (?) and that dest. charges change, and when I questioned that, he got the mgr who told me that yes, it was a mistake. We'll rectify it when we pick up plates (they did not charge MV fees yet due to recent news about dealers overcharging, so are waiting to show me invoice from MV - I think it will be around $80 anyway). As to pricing, you are lower but you could always ask for a quote - Joyce Honda in Denville. They were very busy the Sat we went in and we almost left when we were not being helped in a timely manner, but that was rectified and all in all, they were pleasant and not obnoxious/pushy (though I do wonder about dest. charge "error").
We did not spend nearly as much time as folks on this forum have researching pricing/going to dealers as were planning to buy Highlander instead and just weren't as prepared when we stopped in Honda dealer (and this is our first new car purchase). We offered 26k and they accepted (dest, doc fee & taxes extra). Tried to get dest fee included in 26k but they said no, and also tried to get cargo cover included but they said no and we did not push it by walking out, etc. So you are about $600 lower, but very possible Joyce would go lower or at least match. Also depends on what color you want - another salesman sold the Sage we were buying that same day, so they had to scramble to find another - said they found the only one at Planet Honda and we took delivery the following Sat. They had no blue EX either. I tried filling out form on Edmunds for internet quotes, but neither Honda or Toyota dealers sent any quotes back - all we got was a bunch of phone calls we did not return. FYI, I've seen posts saying the '06 are at dealers in Sept, but when we asked, our salesman told us they do not arrive until Nov. Good luck.
  • hdffrhdffr Member Posts: 13
Gryhnd- thankyou for the info.- hope everything works out with the extra $$ they charged you. Joyce Honda is nearby and I've been trying to get an internet quote from them. I'll continue to search dealers and hope to have one in my driveway by the end of the month.

  • sg101sg101 Member Posts: 19
What an awesome deal you got for an EX-L. We're still debating between an EX and an EX-L - is it really worth an extra $2,000 for leather seats and a moonroof? Darn Honda - why couldn't they put the moonroof with cloth seats?

I can't wait to buy my pilot!
  • pftpft Member Posts: 6
I was told by a sales manager that I could purchase a 2006 Pilot EX-L for $300 above invoice. Is this a good price for a 2006 Pilot, given the sluggish demand for SUVs right now?

Also any sense of how much higher invoice pricing will be above the 2005 invoice pricing? I would really appreciate any advice on this.
  • carbuyer13carbuyer13 Member Posts: 13
How much is the 2005 Honda Pilot Manufacturer-Dealer Invoice? I've only read it to be $1,800 in the forum, but could not find anything on the internet. I went to the dealer this weekend and they said it's only $1,000. If that's the case how are people getting EX-L models for $27K. Does that include the $515 destination handling or is that on top of the $27 price people are claiming they got their EX-L for. But even if it didn't include the destination and handling, the lowest I can see a dealer going is $29,074 - $1,000 = $28,074. Is there another incentive I'm not aware of? Or a holdback? Please post your thoughts. Thanks.
  • carbuyer13carbuyer13 Member Posts: 13
    Oops, I meant Manufacturer-Dealer Incentive......not invoice.
  • sg101sg101 Member Posts: 19
What is everyone getting as far as Financing? The best I can find right now is 5.3% for 60 months. Is Honda offering anything better on the Pilots? I have asked the dealers, but am getting no response.
  • zen76zen76 Member Posts: 12
    AFAIK there is a $1000 incentive + ~$850 holdback. :D
  • cagormcagorm Member Posts: 40
Does anyone know if it is possible to take advantage of the $1,000 incentive on a lease? Is invoice - $1,000 incentive - $850 holdback an unattainable goal on a lease?
  • larscalarsca Member Posts: 60
Just bought a silver metallic Pilot EX cloth from Santa Ana Honda in SoCal for $25,708. I emailed all Honda dealers within my zip code, requesting quotes. Most came in at $26,500 or above (Costco pricing is obsolete and doesn't follow current trends - $100 over invoice may cut it early on in the year, but in the current marketplace you can't expect people to pay $27,300!).

That's $25,708 plus TTL. With $1,900 for my trade in, total OTD came to $26,088.

I'm very happy with the transaction, the car, and the whole experience of not having to deal with anybody but fleet or internet sales people. I'm buying every car for the rest of my life over the phone or online.
