Did anyone get any great deal this past weekend or is everyone waiting for Labor Day Weekend?
  • scjohnnyscjohnny Member Posts: 9
Do you guys think there will be pretty good deals come
    Labor Day Weekend???

    As compared to now?

Thinking about pulling the trigger on a deal this week. $28k
for an EXL. That's car/dest without the TTL. I really want
    $27,800 though.
  • sg101sg101 Member Posts: 19
I would make an offer for $27,700 - I think they would take it. At least that's what some on the board have been getting an EX-L for. Hope you get a great deal.

I am looking at purchasing a 2005 Pilot EX-L in Illinois. I live in Champaign but travel to Chicago a lot so I wouldn't mind purchasing it from a dealer in the Chicagoland area. What price quotes have people gotten for '05 EX-L in Chicago? Champaign? One dealer in Champaign told me the year end clearance discount was about 2K which would leave the EX-L at about 30K but considering the Employee Discount deal with Ford and GM, Honda should be a little more flexible with negotiating. I currently driver a Mountaineer and I could get a 2005 with running boards, moonroof, leather, 6-CD changer in dash, and other extras for $28,600. Any tips on how to negotiate as well? Thanks!

    prythm: which dealership was that?

I'm interested in leasing an 05 Pilot EX-L for 36 months with no down (only first payment and tag). Using the formulas on the net together with the dealer-provided money factor of .00129, a residual of 60%, and prythm's cap cost of $27,706 it seems that I can do it for $312 after taxes, but I'm obviously having trouble getting them down to something like this.

    Any advice?

Try sending an email to Grand Honda in Elmhurst. I don't know about the EX-L, but earlier in the month they were quoting LXs at $23,700 and EXs around $26,000 ($25,750 I believe). You may be able to get the same $1,600 to $1,800 below invoice on an EX-L. I haven't tried to get my local dealers to match that price yet, but I have a feeling they will just laugh.

What dealership did you go to?

    Just bought my Pilot EXL yesterday for OTD $29,700. (27,434.69+389 dealer fee+ $6.50 Florida Tire and battery+ 1669.81 (6% tax)+ 200.00 (new plates)=$29,700

I did search for south Florida and that was the best deal yesterday. I think even better deal can be found. Today I got from one dealer I did not like offer for OTD 29,650.

    The best deals I got from SouthHonda.com (29,700) holmanhonda.com (29,650),
Wilde Sun Honda (27,700). All prices are OTD.

    Good luck.

The lowest I've been able to get is $29000 including 7/100k powertrain warranty offered through the dealer. I'm not sure whether there is anything lower at this point in the Seattle WA area.
  • carbuyer89carbuyer89 Member Posts: 6
I think you should get a new EX-L for close to 27.8K if you are not fussy about the color. I bought one 3 weeks ago for 28K + TTL from Rosen Honda in Gurnee since I wanted a specific color.

Get quotes through the internet - I think you do really get better prices that way.

    Good luck.
  • carbuyer13carbuyer13 Member Posts: 13
29,000 sounds about right. For an EX-L the lowest base price I got is $28,600. It seems like they run a bit higher here in Washington. I'm still trying to shop around since it seems too much. Hopefully as the end of the year comes, there will be better deals.

Going to pick up my red 05 Pilot EX cloth this afternoon. $27,500 OTD with tow package. I think I could have held out for a bit better (maybe $100. or $200.) but the local selection in cloth was getting slim. Sure they could have dealer traded but I was unwilling to make a deal on a car that I had not driven and this Pilot had 11 miles on it at my first test drive. The last red cloth in town.

I would like to know where bobbb found his Pilot in south Florida. I'm seriously looking but dealers are pretty proud of their '05s.

Did you know there is currently a $1000 payback to dealers from Honda? So they should be willing to deal.

    I'd appreciate any info.
  • pryhthmpryhthm Member Posts: 3
    KLM,
The dealership I got the Pilot EX-L from was Maroone Honda of Miami. I didn't lease it, but I took an internet quote from another dealership and asked them to beat or at least match it. They tried to get me to meet them halfway from their offering price, but it would have been nothing different from almost everywhere else. They finally gave me the price I wanted after a bit of the back and forth routine.

Does anyone know of someone or has anyone directly experienced purchasing a Honda (or any make) towards the end of a major sales event like the year end clearance? I basically want to know whether it would pay off to wait till the last couple of days of the sales event to purchase a new vehicle. Are dealers more desperate at that point to get rid of their "old" stock?

Also, what is negotiable when determining a final price? I know you have to pay tax and the destination fee. But can you negotiate not paying the doc fees?

I'm in Illinois and the best quote I've received that included the destination charge is 27611 (need to add tax, fees, etc) just for the EX-L. I want to add the running boards, day/night mirror and the bumper. I was quoted 29380 for this but after adding a 9% tax and fees I'm still looking at $32K+. Would asking for 30200 be pushing it?

Sorry for all the questions but I find the discussion on this forum to be EXTREMELY helpful. Thanks!!!

Yes, generally speaking, the best deals are at the end of any month (and, bear in mind that a dealer "month" is not necessarily the same as a calendar month). However, depending on the circumstances of any particular dealer, the "best" deal may be available at other times. For instance, say a dealer needs to hit a certain sales goal (50 new cars sold) to qualify for a manufacturer's bonus. The person who buys that 50th car is likely to do quite well because it will put the dealer over the top.

Doc fees may or may not be negotiable but, really, merely add whatever that number is to the quoted price of the vehicle to get your true price. You really should be able to buy a Pilot for invoice less $1000 at the worst (I would seek a target price of invoice less $1700 or so).

Dealers usually make tremendous profit on accessories such as those you desire. Go to handaccessories.com or the website for College Hills Honda to get an idea of the best available prices. Given the step-in height of the Pilot, running boards are of marginal utility to most folks and even the plain one are pricey.

I'm taking a ride to a local dealer as I received an internat quote of 25,393 (plus 515 dest. 198 doc, 242 for 4 year registration, 7.50 NJ tire tax, and NJ tax). Seems like a good deal so far and will be buying if the wife likes the pilot.
What should I ask for with the deal-- free mud flaps ? roof bars ? ????? or just take the deal and run.
  • gearjammer62gearjammer62 Member Posts: 108
You've got a good price. You can certainly ask for anything, but don't be too disappointed if they don't throw anything else in. I've seen people pay more, and the may get some "free" mud flaps, but in reality, they paid for them! The lower the dealer margin, the less likely you'll get any "freebies".
  • hdffrhdffr Member Posts: 13
Well, just got back and almost had a deal made. I wanted them to honor a prior internet quote of 25,197 and they wouldn't budge from 25,393. OTD was 28,010 and I offered 27,800. I'll keep looking- they lost a sale !!!
  • markjennmarkjenn Member Posts: 1,142
25393 is a great price if it includes everything but TTL - I'd take it. But given that the OTD is $2617 more (10%+) you either live in a state with very high taxes or the dealer is playing some games with giving you a low invoice number and then making their money on bogus tack-on fees.

    Good luck,

    - Mark
  • chitwnbillchitwnbill Member Posts: 1
I thought I got a great deal until I read some of these posts, now I am not as sure as before...

    I paid 28,100 (including destination)
    Free mud flaps
    Free Wheel Locks
    Free lifetime car washes

Then TTL and spent $780 for 5yr/75K mile extended warranty
Total with 8% tax rate was $31,340

Can anyone from the Chicagoland area tell me if this is a good price for this area??????

Anyone with recent purchase of an LX in the New York area?
  • ecarmackecarmack Member Posts: 161
I would be happy with that deal. I haven't priced the warranty, but you have to consider that the 06s will come standard with a 5yr/60k warranty. But your price is about $1,500 below invoice, and you wouldn't get that on a 2006. I have seen $1,600 to $1,800 below on the LX & EX Cloth, but I'm sure the leather model is in more demand. I think the Chicago prices are very good. There is no way my local dealers would sell them for more than $1,000 under (the dealer cash amount). Enjoy.

I'm looking for a Pilot EX in the southern california area. The best deal I can find in San Diego is $26,328 (includes destination and dealer 'pro package'-wheel locks, mud flaps, etc.)

I opened up my search to include Orange County and I got my lowest quote so far from Santa Ana Honda. The quote is $25,995. I plan on going in there tomorrow to test drive and make a deal. I will ask them for your price of $25,708.

Do you feel the $1900 for the trade was fair?
  • margmarg Member Posts: 1
I bought my 2005 pilot exl from fairfax honda this weekend for 27,794 + additional dealer fees and taxes. I emailed dealer and got internet pricing. When I arrived at the dealer I met salesperson Greg R. -- very pleasant -- The process was easy and straight forward. I was happy with my trade in allowance.

They will try to sell additional options ... Extended warranties, exterior /interior proction, undercoating. If you're interested, try negotiating a better price.

If you're ready to buy -- email 3 dealers in your area and ask for their best price on the model of your choice and let them know you're serious about buying. It's the end of the month, I bet you can do better than me!

What dealership did you go to in NJ?
  • itpragmatikitpragmatik Member Posts: 1
On 8/27/05, I bought following model at Redwood City, CA:

    - 2005 EX-L with Navigation with base price of 30,245
    - Then I added external accessories:
    - Bumper Garnish front & rear
    - Lower Trim and Lower Trim Garnish
    - Wood Interior Complete Package
    - This came to $2600.00
    - After all this, and plus all other fees + taxes, it came out to total of $35,889.00

Is it a good deal or a rip off?

    Thanks.

Pilot EX-L w/Nav purchased today hot from the delivery truck with 2.7 miles on it. 29,399 +Tax & DMV fees (CA). Very easy transaction and completed quickly and professionally. Huntington Beach, CA hometown dealer on Aug 29 '05

I got the internet quote from Open Road Honda in Edison for 25,393. After leaving that dealership I took that quote to Garden State Honda in Clifton. They were unable to beat that quote, but could match it. They let me take the pilot home with a dealer plate and bring it back the next day, "that's some test drive". I'll buy at this price since no one can do any better. Garden state is giving 2.9% finacing and a 1 year oil change-tire maint. program with purchase.
  • 1030nj1030nj Member Posts: 6
Thank you for your response-I will try Garden State Honda.
  • sg101sg101 Member Posts: 19
Was that 2.9% for 60 months? How can the dealership offer that when American Honda Financing Corp isn't posting that kind of financing? If I knew I was going to get 2.9%, I would buy my pilot today.

Sounds like you got an awesome deal! Way to go!
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
The price on the vehicle was not horrible (not great either - see post #4604 for a fantastic price) but you got ripped on the accessories. Of course, it's your money and, obviously, it was worth it to you or else you wouldn't have signed on the dotted line.

It always amazes me when folks pose such a question after they buy.

Has anybody heard that today Honda is offering 3.99% for 60 months? Is this for '05 or '06 or both if true?
  • hdffrhdffr Member Posts: 13
2.9% was for 36 months, they have a higher interest rate if going with a longer term loan. I'm happy with the deal as no even came close to the price and I was able to get the color I wanted. Thankyou to everyone for their advise and help with tracking down a pilot.
  • sg101sg101 Member Posts: 19
I heard they are offering 4.9% for 60 months starting today 8/31 maybe through 9/5. I'm pretty sure it's only for 05's since I don't think they are selling 06 yet
  • sg101sg101 Member Posts: 19
just got confirmation: labor day promotion

    2.9% - 36 months
    3.9% - 48 months
    4.9% - 60 months

Bought Pilot at Kay Honda in Eatontown, NJ. Paid $27,700 (included $550 destination charge) + $99 doc fee + Tax, title and 4-year registration. I had no trade-in and bought no accessories or warranties. It was a smooth transaction from start to finish. 2nd car purchased from them. If anyone is looking for a Pilot in NJ, they had plenty to choose from in all colors.

just bought 05 EXL-NAV-DVD for 750 dollars below invoice including destination at bianchihonda.com, ERIE, PA. Talked to mike donalley, neg the price, went & picked up the vehicle, smooth process, since didn't want to pay invoice+5% here in pittsburgh. 06 models, i believe they may do $500 above invoice, may nego, can bring down. Pilots too have a good deals there, i made him come down approx 1700 below invoice on 05 Pilot EXL (27800)& EXL with NAV (29600) but at last bolted to Ody 05. Wanted ACURA MDX, try philadelphia dealers, premium 05 MDX negotiated was 32,400 plus taxes including destination

Picked up my Silver EX-L last night at Apple Honda in York, PA. Paid $27,600 + tax, tags etc.

My first dealership quoted me $29,900. I then went to 3 other dealerships and had them going against each other. Finally got to the point where no one would budge on the price anymore.

The end of the year, end of the month is the only time I will buy. It saves you thousands!

Offer a rediculous price and they may just accept it. They're still making their money, don' think they're not.

    Who was the sales person?
Am looking for the same car. This would be a steal...
  • buckeye83buckeye83 Member Posts: 3
I asked for the $27,588 pricing on the EX-L, even had a newspaper add from a trip to Chicago, and the dealer in the Boise area (Nampa), said the best he could do is $29,588. He is acting like there is not even a $1000 marketing rebate.
So now I'm looking in the surrounding area, eastern Oregon and Idaho. I'm sure eventually I'll get a dealer to sell at this price. The Boise area is usually stubborn, I've had to go to Portland before to get a resonable price on new vehicles.

Finally bought our 2005 Pilot EX. Here's what we got:

EX - $25,600 (included wheel locks & mud flaps - they were already installed on the car, and I told the dealer that I would not pay extra for them since I didn't want them)
    $45 doc fee
$2,115 (taxes - LA county is 8.25% - they tax price of the car & doc fees)
$230 title & registration (it's supposed to be 1%, but dealer cut this fee down)
    $8.75 tire fee
    OTD = $27,999

We qualified for the 4.9% for 60 months through American Honda Finance Corp. Just as a side note: Make sure you go to the dealer knowing all your numbers!!! Make the dealer tell you the break down of all of their fees including taxes & title/registration and Out The Door (OTD) final price. Also know how much you will be financing and your monthly payment. Their finance department tried to make us pay a 4.99% instead of 4.90% and they also tried to slip $395 in our contract for paint sealant. READ your numbers carefully - don't let them rush you!!!!

Other than that, Honda Santa Ana did a good job to get our business. I will definitely buy all my cars through the internet!!!
  • 1030nj1030nj Member Posts: 6
What was your total price. I just called and got a total price of $30,213.30.
    No accessories or extra warranties.
  • dr_chuckdr_chuck Member Posts: 4
    $27,700 + $1,662 (6% tax) + $99 doc fee + $7.50 tire tax + $342 (title/ registration for 4 years) = $29810.50
  • dr_chuckdr_chuck Member Posts: 4
Instead of calling, why not go to the dealer and ask for your price. I e-mailed around, found the lowest price, checked the dealer inventory to make sure they had the color I wanted. Then went to the dealer and asked for the price. You'll get more accomplished showing up wanting to buy then juggling numbers over the phone. I've bought two cars from them and they are very professional. And it seems they have the lowest doc fee of most dealers.

I just bought an EX for 25,393 plus dest. Doc, 4 yr registration and Tax. OTD for 28,000 and I also was able to get 2.9% for 36 months. Check E-bay as there are several EX's listed out of Open Road Honda.
