    Hi Everyone,

This has been a very useful forum for me. Today I purchased a 2005 Pilot EXL in suburban Atlanta. The price listed as:
28298.13 + 2001.87 (7% tax + title). It was about as good as I could do on one of the last steel blue metallics in Georgia. It included mud guards, wheel locks, mats and crossbars. Thanks everyone for your help

Just purchased a 2005 Pilot EXL from Honda of Seattle Thursday night. Very positive experience, wife dropped me off at 5:00 and I walked through my front door at 7:00 - no games, no shenanigans.

I solicited bids via e-mail from 8-10 Puget Sound area dealers and then narrowed down to best offers over the last week. Came down to Honda of Seattle versus Renton Honda.

    $28,389 + $2,583 tax (9.1%) + $209 license/doc fee = $31,181 OTD

One thing that surprised me was the wide range of initial quotes from various dealers - a range of ~$1,600 for an 2005! Some of the dealers apparently aren't quite as motivated as others. One guy was so high I thought maybe he was quoting me for a 2006 EXL (a good price I would have taken if in fact it was for a 06, but it wasn't). Way out of the ballpark, not even within sight of the ballpark actually...

60 hours later and I am very happy with this vehicle.

    plus 730.65 running boards installed

    Is this a good price?

I have heard from a fried who sold BMWs for a while, that is legal for a dealer to pad the APR by 1%, and that if you drive a hard bargain, they will can it. Haven't tried this yet, but you bet your booties I will with the next purchase!

    To: investwisely,

    I just Leased an 06 EX 2WD.

    Money Factor: .00265
    Residual: 64%
    Term: 3 yr/12k
  • investwiselyinvestwisely Member Posts: 26
No leather correct? Also what was selling price of car or monthly payment?
The residual is very good, the money factor they did not help you out there.
  • sinbad2sinbad2 Member Posts: 12
    To: investwisely,

No leather, no factory or dealer options.
    MSRP: 30095 (includes destination)
    Base Selling price: 27674
Down: $ 924 (includes Accusation fee + other fees, 195 cash, etc. but No deposit)
    Monthly 369.57 + tax

    What do you think?
  • investwiselyinvestwisely Member Posts: 26
This is pretty good. I would be happy with everything except the money factor. They should have given you at least .00255 which is standard. Don't know your credit situation. I need 5% or less before I will lease. The .00265 translates into 6.375% on the lease. You would be surprised how 1% in moneyfactor affects your payments. Overall considering the 05's are still plentiful you did very good.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,222
Just a guess, but the money factor is probably bumped up by .00010 to account for the lack of security deposit..

That looks like a pretty good deal on a $30K vehicle..

    scjohnny,
I bought from Carey Paul Honda in Snellville, but Curry Honda and Gwinnett Place Honda had the same price. Ed Voyles Honda actually had the lowest price ($650 less), but my wife wanted a blue one and those are scarce around here. Good luck to you.

Is the Accusation fee ($500+ ) and all that stuff that adds upto a total of $700+, something normal on Lease deals? Is it waved at times?

    Thanks.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,222
The Honda Finance acquisition fee is $595... And, it is usually never waived...

However, you can roll it into the monthly lease payment...

Thanks for the reply. Yes thats what it is. They offered to include it in the monthly payments, but it was making them go up so I decided to just pay it off up-front.

    Thanks.

This forum is a great resource:

Just picked up a 2005 EXL for & $27,200 (inc dest)
Leased it: 36 month, 12K miles year
    Money factor was .00265
No cap reduction, just paid fees up front
    $595: Bank Fee
    $429: 3 year Registration & Doc Fee
    $450+ taxes

(If I wanted the .00255 money factor would had to put down a $300 sec deposit, which I decided not to do)

Check out College Hills Honda's price for the running boards and installation instructions. Assuming they paid the same for the running board you would (~$500 w/shipping) and 2hours labor ($150@75/hr) they're about $100 more expensive. Nit picky but I don't think it will cost them as much or take as long as I've assumed above.

I WENT TO BERNARDI HONDA IN NATICK, MA ON 7/13/05 TO PURCHASE A NEW HONDA PILOT. I LEFT A DEPOSIT OF $1000 FOR A GOLD HONDA PILOT ON 7/13/05. ON THAT PARTICULAR RECEIPT, THEY DID NOT MENTION ANYTHING ABOUT THE DEPOSIT BEING NON-REFUNDABLE.

THE NEXT DAY 7/14/05, I CALLED THE DEALER BECAUSE I WANTED TO HAVE A SILVER PILOT INSTEAD OF A GOLD ONE. I WAS TOLD TO COME IN AND DO THE PAPERWORK. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND SIGNED THE PURCHASE AGREEMENT, BUT I FOUND OUT AFTER I SIGNED THAT THE PURCHASE AREEMENT WAS FOR A PILOT WITH 467 MILES ON IT.

I FELT I WAS CHEATED. I WANTED TO PURCHASE A NEW CAR AND THEY GIVE ME A USED CAR. I TOLD THEM TO CANCEL THE TRANSATION BUT THEY TOLD ME THAT I COULD NOT BECAUSE I SIGNED THE AGREEMENT AND THE DEPOSIT I MADE THE DAY BEFORE WAS NON-REFUNDABLE. AFTER A BIG ARGUMENT WITH THE SALE MANANGER FOR HALF AN HOUR, THEY FORCED ME TO SIGN ANOTHER PURCHASE AGREEMENT FOR A CAR WITH A DIFFERENT VIN # AND 48 MILES ON IT. THEY SAID IF I DIDN’T SIGN THIS, I WOULD LOSE MY DEPOSIT. THEREFORE THE CONTRACT I SIGNED WAS SIGNED UNDER DURESS. I WAS COERCED INTO SIGNING THE CONTRACT FOR FEAR OF LOSING MY DEPOSIT. I NEVER EVEN HAD A CHANCE TO SEE THE CAR BECAUSE THE CAR WAS IN A SATELLITE PARKING AREA AND THE DEALER WAS CLOSING.

ON THE WAY HOME THAT NIGHT, I REALIZED I WAS CORNERED AND COERCED INTO SIGNING A CONTRACT TO PURCHASE A CAR THAT I DIDN’T EVEN GET TO SEE. BERNARDI HONDA SALES PRACTICES ARE QUESTIONABLE AND DISHONEST.

SO THE NEXT MORNING,ON 7/15/05, I CALLED BERNARDI SALESMAN AND TOLD HIM TO CANCEL THE TRANSACTION. IN ADDITION, I FAXED MY CANCELLATION NOTICE TO BERNARDI HONDA ON 7/15/05

    1. I WAS NOT INFORMED THAT MY DEPOSIT WAS NON REFUNDABLE
    2. I SIGNED A CONTRACT UNDER DURESS BECAUSE I WAS AFRAID OF LOSING MY DEPOSIT.
    3. THE PRODUCT I INTENTED TO PURCHASE WAS NOT DELIVERED TO MY SATISFACTION.

I’M VERY MUCH DISAPPOINTED ABOUT BERNARDI HONDA I BELIEVE MY CUSTOMER RIGHTS HAVE BEEN DENIED. I LOST $1000 DEPOSIT.SINCE THEN I BOUGHT 2005 HONDA PILOT SILVER COLOR FROM BOCH HONDA.

Thats a great price, how did you get that? When I just went to Carsdirect for the same vehicle I got quoted 32,564 for and 2006 EXL plus another 1600 for RES. Total 34,164. Thats over a $3000 difference. And actually I think invoice on that care is 31,168

Does it has to do with location? Where are you located?

If that is the price for a 2006 EXL with RES (AWD) then I would buy it.
  • markjennmarkjenn Member Posts: 1,142
Sorry about your experiences. It sounds like the dealer is playing hard-ball which is not a good way to do business.

But ... your legal rights are basically defined by the documents you signed, not by what your understanding was of the situation. So you need to look carefully at the documents, rather than relying on your recollection of the process at the time. The refundability of your deposit will be defined in these documents and my applicalbe state law, not by what they said or didn't say.

    Good luck,

Great deal! What is residual factor and what is monthly payment, please?
  • benciebencie Member Posts: 1
We are looking for the same car (06 EXL -RES AWD, SAGE BRUSH PEARL) and was quoted 31,168(inv) + 500(dealers mark up/profit) + 550(dest) =32,218. Im just wondering why do they have to put another 1600 for the RES since invoice is already the price of one with it, its just a matter of how much they're putting on top of it. In my case, its +500.

Bernardi in Natick is a total joke! Don't even waste your time. Go to Boch!
  • d105kd105k Member Posts: 2
I just purchased a 2006 EXL 4WD from Boch for 29905, including dest., plus 5% sales tax and 198 doc. fee. I got several good email quotes from local dealers. I took the best offer from Commonwealth Honda in Lawrence, MA and brought it to Boch, since they are closer to my house, and they matched the price. NO Haggeling!!
  • investwiselyinvestwisely Member Posts: 26
This is under invoice. Are you sure it was not 2WD? That is a very good price for an 06 EX-L 4WD

I live in Jacksonville, FL. I don't know if it has to do with location or not. I just got off the phone with the guy at carsdirect.com and out the door price is 33537.85. It took him less that a day to find the car near me and I can pick it up tomorrow. He did say that they (the dealer) charges a documentation charge of 450.00 (included in the out the door price) is that true or is that how they make their money.

I have been looking at a Pilot for a while. My wife would prefer a Redrock Pearl EX w/ cloth . (She does not like the leather on my Acura TL.) However, we can not find any cloth models for 2005 left. So, a dealer in the DFW area has a Redrock Pearl EXL and he keeps calling and hounding me to make a ridiculous offer. He has 23 2005 Pilots of all models on his lot. I have seen some offers near $27,000 for EXL on this board. So, any ideas? We really don't care if we get something now or not. I am thinking about offering about $25,000. We also would be trading in a 1999 Isuzu Trooper w/ 60,000 miles and they offered about $5,700. I think my wife would be willing to give the 1999 Trooper + $20,000.

I don't really have anything to lose. What is the best someone has done for a 2005 EXL w/out DVD.

Quick forum search for "2005 EXL" revealed the following posts. Near as I can tell, these are base + dest, NOT TTL or any added options. Hope this helps.

    #4734 Seattle $28,389 (mine)

    #4731 Atlanta $28,298

    #4601 Fairfax, VA $27,794

    #4460 Sacramento $28,500

    #4458 Unknown $27,004 (questionable accuracy?)

    #3960 St Louis $29,600

    Dorkbear,

I'm in the Renton, Washington area and also interested in the 2005 EX-L model. Is the $28,389 for just the base model w/ destination and handling? Or did you get wheel locks, mud guards etc..... added onto it. The 9.1% and doc fees seem pretty standard. I just didn't know if added any options. Thanks!
  • fotboatfotboat Member Posts: 19
    The residual was 18715 (58%)

    #4748: NJ $27,200
  • dorkbeardorkbear Member Posts: 11
    Carbuyer13,
The $28,389 I paid was base + destination, plus they threw in wheel locks and rear splash guards (front guards are standard) just to match what another dealer had offered. No additional options.

Honda of Renton would have been my #2 dealer choice after Honda of Seattle - Renton was quoting the same price but Seattle is closer to where I live. I have a colleague who bought a Pilot at Renton last year and he was very happy with his sales experience there. Puget sound dealers who, in my experience, were less willing to negotiate price were Lynnwood, Fife, Kirkland, Bellevue. Honda of Seattle and Renton Honda offered the best pricing and were easiest to deal with. Hope this helps.

$27,200 in NJ was a leased vehicle, correct?
  • markjennmarkjenn Member Posts: 1,142
Congrats on a good deal on the new car.

I've shopped for Hondas a few times in the Puget Sound area, and I'm not sure any trends where specific dealers do better than others are discernable. I've had instances where Bellevue beat Renton by $1.5K on price and the opposite as well. You just got to shop around on any given day if you're looking for the best price. And in any event, discounting is often slim. The Seattle area (like the Bay Area) seems to be able to support much higher pricing points than the rest of the country. 18 months ago, Bellevue wouldn't budge from MSRP on a Pilot.

Hi... I bought a new Pilot last week. I forgot and the dealer did not collect payment from me for the vehicle. Got a call today from the dealer letting me know that I did not pay and I am to give him a check. What options do I have if the dealer says that the rebate period is over and I have to pay the higher price. We had agreed on me paying a check for the car and not financing it.

    -- thx
  • mldj98mldj98 Member Posts: 378
I'm assuming you have a signed purchase agreement contract with price on it correct? If you do then all you have to pay is what is written on the contract...pretty straight forward and legal....if they don't want to honor that price then I guess your other option is to return the Pilot...the dealership let you walk out without paying....hard to believe...but just a slight oversight....I'm sure the dealership will only want what was agreed upon as far as price goes...and besides you have a legal document to back it up....if they loose any dealer cash on the deal then that is their bad...not yours....good luck!
  • fotboatfotboat Member Posts: 19
    dorkbear,

Yes, I leased it, but delaer would have accepted cash at that price also.

Just leased an 06; Pilot EX-L 2 WD yesterday for 3 yrs/12k for $369/month including tax. This was basically getting the car a few hundred below invoice, $599 dealer fee, and $550 Honda bank fee added to the cap. cost. Money factor was .00115, no deposit required. Residual 61% My total out of pocket was $600 which includes first month, tags, misc. I almost hit my target of $350 which most sales people laughed at me 3 weeks ago. I absolutely love the vehicle
  • cutter3cutter3 Member Posts: 12
maybe a stupid question - is the residual a % of the MSRP - including delivery?

    Thanks and congrats.

Yes.... the residual % is applied to the full MSRP including factory options and destination charge...

Although I check the meaning of RESIDUAL on google,

    But still not clear .

Would some body explain me what it is ?

    Thanks in advance
  • investwiselyinvestwisely Member Posts: 26
The residual factor is what the car will be worth at the end of the lease. The residual is a % number that you multiply by the MSRP+any destination. The higher the residual used, the lower your payments. On a $30,000 car if the residual is 50%, that means that the car is worth $15,000 after 3 years, so you are actually financing over the lease term for that amount of money, not the entire MSRP of $30,000. Hope that helps. The downside of a high resdidual is that you will most likely not be able to end the lease early without a signficant payoff as the car may be worth substantially less than what is left on your lease payments.

We just purchased a 2006 EX-L with res-2WD for 31,039 that did include the $550 destination and handling fee. Not including tax and lic. The doc fee may have something to do with the financing & licensing paperwork. We had a "blank check" to write from a finance company before we arrived so we did not finance through honda. This was by far the best price in our area, Portland, OR.
