Bought Pilot EX-L with rear mud guards and wheel locks from Academy Honda.
    Price paid:
    $27,504 + 515 (Dest) + 6% tax + MV (342) + Doc (99) + 7.50 (Tire Tax)
    = $30,124 (Total OTD).
Had to call ahead and negotiate over the phone. Walked in to close the deal.
Very good buying experience. No hassels.

I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this but I'm wondering if anyone has ever heard of dealers buying new cars from Canada and having them shipped here for sale. I signed papers on a new EXL and I could have sworn the salesman said the car was on its way in from Canada. When I discussed it with a friend he said that dealors sometimes buy from Canadian dealors and change out the dash, etc. I called the dealorship back and I was told the car was coming from the factory in Ohio and that they would show me the Certificate fo Origin. Does it make sense that the factory is still shipping '05's? The car cost me $28,125 plus tax, and doc fees $194. It was the best I could get here in Massachusetts and RI and choices are getting very limited.

I bought my 05 Pilot EX-L from Rosen Honda (Gurnee, Il) for $27,818 +taxes+$80 doc fees.
Internet sales contacted me via email with the price which was better than anyone else in the area. Very smooth transaction.

    carsdirect.com is quoting 2005 Pilot EX-L for : $27,723
This is almost 2,000 below the invoice ($29,623)

There was a $1000 marketing incentive until 9/6.
Does anybody know if there ss there a new, better incentive now the Pilot?

Just to say hi and thanks for letting me know about the pricing everyone's getting from all around the country.

Just want to let you know I got the a Steel Blue Metallic Honda Pilot EX-L 2005 on 9/1/2005 for $27,788 (including $515 destination fee) [ $5,000 off of MSRP $32,320 + $515 dest]at Honda Cars of Boston Everett, MA. (hondacarsofboston.com)

    Info of purchase:
    $27,788 Honda Pilot EX-L 2005
    + 695 Lojack
    + 64 Wheel Locks
    + 89 Mud Flaps
    = $ 28636.00 (Before Taxes)
    + $ 1,431.80
    = $ 30067.80
    + $155.00 (Inspection, Registration, Title)
    + $86.00 (MA Plates)

    = $30356.80 OTD
    - $9,000 down payment
= $21356.80 Financed through Capital One 4.64% via Costco discount for 36 months

I couldn't get myself qualify for the 2.9% APR b/c I applied for Honda Credit early August and I got a 9.79% APR. That sucked a lot. I am disappointed at Honda Credit's lousy policies. I guess those reports about Honda's policies were true. Other than that I am really satisfied with my purchase. I tried emailing every dealer throughout Massachusetts. None would budge below $28,500 and that DOES NOT include destination. If anyone from Mass. would want to buy a Honda at a great value, go to HONDA CARS OF BOSTON

Did anyone notice that the marketing support is now $1500??

I was looking at incentives after the Labor Day weekend (which brought the low apr's + marketing suppt of 1k) and for like 24 hrs there were none.

Even clearance.honda.com redirects you to a 2006 civic ad.

Now marketing support is $1500. I wonder what kind of deals are to be had
    now???

My zip on carsdirect.com still shows 29k +++

i just returned from the honda dealer in lisle and was quoted 31,000 + tax for a 2005 new white EX-L with the sunrf and DVD, but no navi. This was after some back and forth fooling around. i think the sticker was 34,335? how does this car compare to yours? what was the year of yours and the sticker price?

I just brought home a Pilot EX in PA and the window sticker says my Pilot was assembled in Lincoln, Alabama.
  • nepaman1nepaman1 Member Posts: 5
I paid about the same for my EX ( 25,990 ) and OTD came to only 27,682.
Are CA taxes that high or did you pay for some options too ?
  • bliss1bliss1 Member Posts: 2
On Sept 3 I purchased 2005 Honda EX-L with Navi for $29,606/- excluding taxes, title etc at Grand Honda in Elmhurst IL. I asked Grand Honda to quote on the internet and I went and picked up the vehicle at the agreed price. They were quoting $27,500 for EXL (2005). For EX-L w/ DVD their quote was $28,750/- . All prices include the destination charges. Hope this helps.

I was planning on buying an 05 Pilot EX-L with DVD just after Christmas to take advantage of the "end of tax year" sales. But with the "Honda Clearance" the Pilots seem to be flying off the lots. Any opinions as to whether I should buy now or wait till after Christmas? I've settled on the EX-L with DVD but I'm open to three different colors. The best quote I have so far is $30,800 total on the road cost. Anybody have any thoughts???

I'm a prospective buyer and was thinking about the LX trim - but NOBODY mentions it in the messageboards. Is there any problem with the LX? It doesn't look like the extra features on the EX are worth it.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,754
I think the reason is more people feel the EX upgrades ARE worth it, so they sell more of them.

For me, the upgraded stereo (now including in-dash 6-cd changer), steering wheel controls, alloy wheels, and power seat are easily worth $2500. Not to mention the tinted windows and color-keyed moulding, which I feel go a LONG way to add to the looks of the vehicle (in all honesty, I have mistaken the PIlot LX for a CRV from a distance).

I have been comparing the LX and the EX. I dont need the alloy wheels and in-dash 6 CD. I do want the privacy/tinted windows.

I will use an after maket service and get the windows tinited. Hopefully, the tint will last many years......any thoughts on what kind of film I should ask the tinting service to use? Thanks.

any thoughts on what kind of film I should ask the tinting service to use?

don't know if this was directed specifically at me ... but I have no idea. I've never had aftermarket tinting done. Hopefully someone else can answer your question.

How much would tinting all that glass cost, though?

have you compared the 2 trims in person? I don't know if you like decent sound or anything, but the EX stereo is more than just a 6-cd changer ... it includes 2 more speakers, more power, and a subwoofer (is it 7 speakers total? i'm not even sure... i think so).

i specifically wanted the steering wheel controls because this is my wife's primary car and she is dangerous enough without having to reach for the stereo. ;)

However, if you don't care about alloy wheels, I can certainly see the EX not looking like a good deal (I figure that's worth about $1K by itself).

Has about 40k miles and my tax will only be 3.25%, price would be around $21.5k. Is there any reason not to buy a near mint '03 instead of a new LX '05 (which is all I could afford w/ what I've got to spend right now). I'm sure this one will go fast, I had planned to wait until Christmas and buy a new LX but came across this one. Just wondering if there is any reason to get an '05 or '06 that I don't know about. I guess I'd be saving about $2k from reading deals on LX's in this thread, but I'd be getting an EXL w/ dvd.

Don't see much discussion on used ones here.
  • slider71slider71 Member Posts: 10
If you want an LX, buy an '06, not the '05. They made the mouldings body colored now, and made the wheels much better looking than the previous steelies....

Anyone in South Carolina looking for a Pilot I strongly suggest Superior Motors in Orangeburg! I live in Charleston but bought mine there. I bought a Sage Green Pearl with cloth interior - the only accessory I got was the cargo cover. Bought for $26895. Out the door to include tax, transfer tags, etc... was $27356.

This was at least $1500 better than the two dealerships in Charleston. Both of those dealerships said Superior would never sell me the car I wanted at the price they quoted (never mind that that is illegal......) they kept giving me the oh-so-cheesy car salesman line of "you'll get up there and they'll tell you they don't have that one on the lot, but I'll sell you this EX-L for $x amount." Whatever - I took my email quote to one of my local dealerships on a Saturday morning and they pretty much laughed at me, said we won't sell you a car for that amount and then very patronizingly said, "WHEN and IF you ever get a pilot, we sure hope you have it serviced here." I so felt like wanting to drive it by them the following Tuesday (the first day the dealership was open - Monday had been Labor Day) and just like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, say, "Do you work on commission? Mistake. Big Mistake!"

AND the folks at Superior drove the hour and a half to my house - no delivery charge - and we signed and they left. They were nice enough to fax me all of the paperwork before they came down - for the first time ever buying a car there were NO MISTAKES on the paperwork. Well, okay - one mistake - they had the color listed incorrectly on one sheet. But no number mistakes. WOW. :) (Last time I bought a car - a toyota in 2002 - and financed it, there were all of these add-ons they didn't think I'd see which would have raised my monthly payment by about $50 - I refused to sign then and they took them off, saying it was a "mistake.")

I think I got a good price - and certainly got great service via e-mail and the telephone.

    Where do you live Momto2?

I'm originally from Goose Creek. I live in Alabama now. The Charleston dealerships sound exactly like my local Montgomery dealership (and the ones in Birmingham for that matter).

Is that Honda dealership still down from North Woods Mall? Stokes I believe?

i just closed on a brand new 05 acura MDX for $36.5k with DVD and leather + running boards. I had originally wanted to get 06 pilot and have done a lot of work around pricing. if getting the safety of three rows of side airbags is important to you, i would strongly ask people to consider the 05 MDX. The 06 Pilot is basically striving to look like the 05 MDX. Acura Dealers are discounting $6k off msrp right now placing them only $2500 to $3000 above what Honda is trying to get for 06 pilot. For those that don't know, the Acura MDX 05 has 3 row airbags, 17 in. wheels, standard satellite, etc. it is basically a pilot on steroids with superior styling normally costing about $9k more. When the Acura 05's dissapear, they will be asking MSRP of around 42,500 for acura 06's for same new car so value proposition dissapears. I had planned to be a pilot owner but was pleasantly shocked at how much Acuras were being discounted. Check it out.

Just went to my local dealer in Benton Harbor, MI and fell in love with the new 06
    - Leather is high quality, with rich, wide (and straight) stiching.
    - 10" DVD is sweet
    - Standard fog lamps and composite HD's are cool
    - Front grill styling is just like Ridgeline ( adds some much needed style)
    - Clear rear light covers are hot and current
    - 24mpg highway

Just sharing and need some help on pricing this out (MSRP was $33K)

Never owned a Honda, drove and previewed (Nissan Path, 4runner, Freestyle, Explorer) I think this is the car for my family(wife)

    Regards :)

I was out and about on Wednesday Sept.14th and they are arriving here in Northern Calif. They only had 1 or 2 out on the lot, but were unwrapping 1or 2 more getting them ready for this weekend. :)

I bought a 2006 2WD EXL this weekend for $600 over invoice. I liked the new leather, fog lights, VCM option, etc. but the real decision wasn't much of a decision, side curtain airbags as standard forced me to forgo good buys on the 2005.

BTW, I saw invoice pricing on the "confidential" sheet from the dealer. I jotted down the following:

    2WD EXL $28,652
    2WD EXL RES $30,089
    4WD EXL $29,730
    4WD EXL RES $31,168
    Prices don't include $550 destination
  • denadadenada Member Posts: 18
    Congrat!!!!!!

    Where did you buy?

Could you include the dealership name ,city and state.

Would they make the same offer(invoice + 600) on other model EX and EXL 4wd?

    Thanks
  • opus4opus4 Member Posts: 11
I bought it at Park Honda in Akron, OH.

It was the only 06 they had on the lot for now, so I didn't even talk about other models. I did start to question if they'd take the same price for another color not in stock and they weren't real interested (I guess it costs $$ for them to transport cars from other dealerships). I didn't come in with the intent to buy, thinking they wouldn't even be interested in talking from an invoice price given this is the first weekend the 06's are even on the lot, but I felt like this was a pretty fair price this early in the season so I offered $200 over invoice and we ended at $600 after about 30 minutes of negotiationt.

Last week, I got the offer 2005 Pilot EX-L at 28,619$. The dealer said it's 970$ below invoice. (Is it right?. I live in North California.)

Originally, I thought it's pretty good deal.

but, after I read some postings in this forum, I'm not sure which is better decision between 2005 and 2006.

    two questions.
    1. How much can I buy 2006 Pilot EX-L?
    2. Considering my offerred price of 28619, which is better decision? 2005 or 2006?

please give me your opinions. thanks a lot.

I checked carsdirect this morning and found they are offering '05 EX-Ls for $28,123 in my area (new jersey). My wife contacted 2 local dealers. First offered $28,623 and the 2nd offered $28,104. That's, I believe $15 over Edmunds listed invoice MINUS the $1500 dealer cash. We think we are going to trade our '03 in for a new '05 due to this deal. We'd actually lower our payments around $25-$30 and get a new vehicle with more features. Not bad.

I've decided I just don't see the advantage to getting an '06 at this point. The VCM is only available on the 2wd models, which we don't want. I don't really care about the minor styling changes. So paying even as low as $2500 more doesn't seem worth it to me.

with rebates and holdbacks - invoice & msrp are a load of bunk. i would suggest just looking for lowest price and beat the heck out of these salesman. Work two against each other and then invite in a third to start the bidding a new. last week the lowest px for 05 ex-l was 28,300 on east coast. if you plan to run the car into the ground until the wheels come off, model year should not matter if they are not making massive changes. an suv that has 125k miles on it isn't going to matter much if it is 05 or 06 in 8 years from now. however, if 2 wd or 3 rd air bags is important, than go with the 06. there was a 3400 dollar differential between 05 and 06 offers that i received. i could not justify the price differential
  • ksyimksyim Member Posts: 7
    thanks for your kind reply.

Is it really true, 3400$ difference between 05 and 06??
Such a big difference? I was really shocked.
then, we have to buy 06 around MSRP price? Isn't it too much?
please let me know little bit more details. thanks.
  • denadadenada Member Posts: 18
If you can wait, most people think, around 2 months , you can get at least 2000 off MSRP. IMO, we can get invoice + no more than 1000 two months later.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,754
I'm not concerned one bit about the value of the vehicle in a few years, and I'll tell you why. We bought our '03 in April of '03. We financed EVERYTHING for 6 years. Now, less then 2 and a half years later, we owe $20,500 on the Pilot and trade-in value is about $19,500. If we wanted to wait a few more months, we'd be breaking even on the truck. That is incredible when financing a vehicle for 6 years and putting $0 down. So I have no doubt the same thing will happen if we buy this leftover '05, especially considering we won't be financing as much as we did on our '03. Resale on these is too strong to sweat getting an '06 over an '05 (and paying more for it).

See message 4659 for invoice on 2006. I offered $300 over invoice and ended up at $600 over invoice for the car, so they will deal on the new models. BTW, my I felt it was worth the premium I paid for the side curtain air bags on the 2006. Other than the side curtain air bags, the other changes are largely cosmetic - oh except gas mileage was a concern as I bought the 2WD.
  • shopper8shopper8 Member Posts: 21
$3,400 was outrageous, but that was the difference between the absolute lowest price on an '05 leather with DVD and the first 06 on the lot in the area. The guy shouldn't be in sales if he offers it lower since he didn't know where demand was. Why start at invoice when you've got the only car in town. Unfortunately my wife didn't have the luxury of waiting since we needed a carpool car. If you can wait 1 month I bet you could be close to invoice.
  • helenehelene Member Posts: 2
I picked up my 2006 Pilot today, red, EXL, with RES, and I paid about $900 over invoice. I couldn't spend too much time playing the pricing game - and the dealer I used was able to locate the exact car I wanted and get it to me within 12 hours. The other 2 dealers I spoke with couldn't promise a thing. I imagine I could have negotiated down another couple hundred dollars . . . but my car had died and I was just ready to deal. It looks beautiful, and I absolutely love the interior - especially that console! Good luck.

I recently received a price quote of $32,218.75 for the 2006 Pilot 4WD EXL with RES. This is the best of several offers I have received. This includes destination, but not tax, title, lic. I am in the Chicagoland area. Is this about right??? Thanks in advance.

Peter, I paid $29800 + $100 document/title/etc. (junk) + tax for the county I'm in. They did throw in the all season floor mats - good for snowy Ohio weather.

    I'm enjoying it. Good luck.

Hi, I am looking for the exact same vehicle. You say you paid $900 over invoice, but what is the invoice price if you don't mind my asking? Thanks.
