Got 4.99% for 60 months from dealer. Wasn't planning to finance through dealer, but that was slightly better than everything else I saw (Capital One, credit unions) so we took it. Tried to get lower but they said that was all they could do.

    Oceanexprt,
I am in Bay area too. Which dealer did you get this deal ? Is this the internet manager ?
    Thanks for help !
  • wbwynnwbwynn Member Posts: 246
purchased for $29,536 with optional wheel locks, rear splash guards.

$359 processing fee was added, plus tax and $46 license. Looks to be about $2000 under invoice.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
An excellent dealer there, wbwynn, but (adding the "processing fee" to the "price") how do you figure you're "about $2000 under [the $31,386] invoice?"
  • wbwynnwbwynn Member Posts: 246
on second look; agreed more like $1600. I'm happy.

I'm just starting my pricing reseach and have read with interest the recent posts for CA and NJ areas. Is there anyone who has recently bought a Honda Pilot EX with leather in the southern New England area?

    Thanks for your help

purchased a pilot ex-L a couple weeks back. paid 28500 (including dest). Thought it was a good price until seeing some posting for 27k+
  • ltcjfcltcjfc Member Posts: 1
Does your EX-L have Nav, Sunroof and DVD. Sounds like a nice price. I was quoted 30,978, plus taxes with Nav, moon, and DVD. THought it was decent but does not seem like it.

    Is there a $1000 dealer incentive now?>
  • mjk3mjk3 Member Posts: 1
I want to post the price I just paid for an EXL with entertainment in Charlotte NC.

Out the door price of $31,009.
Included the following options: wheel locks, cargo mat, running boards and mud flaps.

I had the EXL at $29,700 out the door but wanted my kids to love me so I jumped up to the RES.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Yes, there is a $1000 manufacturer to dealer incentive through Labor Day. At $30,978 you're in effect paying about $1000 for the added-on DVD system (see above posts where the best prices being reported for nav units is just under 30K). Sounds like a good price to me.
  • wbwynnwbwynn Member Posts: 246
All dealers have some processing fee; $359 is on the higher side, but I got $500 over the KBB trade value as part of my deal. I don't see how the dealer made much of a profit on the new car, but will likely make it up on the trade resale.

If you can figure what the profit was, I'd like to know. Thanks

Can someone explain to me what it is?

Is it a given to get?

I have a dealership at about $28,500. That's not good compared
to the latest quotes. Just trying to get that hold back...
  • markjennmarkjenn Member Posts: 1,142
Sounds like a good deal, but the trade-in totally clouds the numbers.

Does anybody know the fee in New York state before they changed the law in August
  • tupperstuppers Member Posts: 2
It was just with the moon roof - no nav, no DVD.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,754
if you search the boards for "holdback" you'll find TONS of discussion on this.

No, its not a given in the least, and, frankly, you shouldn't even mention it. By asking for holdback, you might as well ask them to skip their electric bill or property taxes this month. Its the same thing. And, probably, asking them to skip their electric bill would be less offensive than asking them to give you the holdback ... just a semantics thing.

    10-4 Found the info.

So somehow I have to get this holdback out of them...without
asking for it. Approx 800-900 bucks. Crud...
  • larscalarsca Member Posts: 60
No it doesn't. $25,708 was negotiated over the phone before I went there. I didn't mention my trade in until I was there and we had a deal for the Pilot already agreed upon.

By the way, I was flirting with upgrading to EX-L, but was quoted $27,700. As good as that price may be, it's still $2,000 more and to me it just wasn't worth it.
  • butchbr73butchbr73 Member Posts: 325
...sure it does, b/c in reality, the trade-in in another transaction.... what was it, what kind of condition was it really in, what is the real ACV of the car, etc... and comparing to what they gave you for it.

...quoting a price on any transaction w/ a trade-in distorts the picture. For example, I paid $36k for the Pilot ex-l w/ navi we bought a few months ago. that's what the paperwork says..... but i also had a trade-in.
  • markjennmarkjenn Member Posts: 1,142
If you truly could have bought the car for phone-agreed price, then I agree, it's a true apples-apples comparison with a cash deal. I'm a little skeptical, because I've had several instances of a dealer who agreed to a deal on the phone and then changed it when in person though.

It is a big problem on forums like this where someone will quote a great price that no dealer could make a penny on, and then you find out later that there was a trade in, they didn't include destination, they didn't include some bogus document fee that they thought was standard (in general no "document fees" are), and they paid full list for $3K of chrome doo-dads they added to the car. But that doesn't sound like this is the case here.

In any event, congrats on the car.
  • jakepjakep Member Posts: 1
Did this include the destination charge or was that extra? I am getting the same price here plus the destination charge.

For those looking in the Raleigh NC area. I bought my EX-L on June 29th for $27,870 + Dest $515 = $28,285.00 Tax Doc fee tag made OTD of $29,680.55. Added tow pkg for $985 for final of $30,695.10. No trade-in. Took 01 Impala to Carmax later for $5100.

Contact Internet Office at Leith Honda. DO NOT walk-in any dealer.

    Other good dealers were:

Hendrick Honda, Woodbridge VA for OTD of $30,067.74 includes door edge guards, wheel well guards, pin stripes, mud guards, floor mats and wheel locks. (Offer for add-ons may not be in effect now of course)

Burlington Honda, Burlington NC OTD = $30,159.00

Hendrick Honda, Easley SC = $30,228.82.

Hendricks Honda, Charlotte NC OTD = $30,260.25

    All very professional and courteous.

Can't recommend Landmark Honda in alexandria VA. Salesperson had an attitude with my wife when he found out we bought somewhere else.

I just received two internet quotes from the same dealer - 2005 EX $25,393- OTD- $27,979 and an 2005 EX-L $27,504- OTD $30,216. This would include a prepaid registration for four years. Seems like a good deal, but will the prices get any better?? The other problem is the longer I wait the less of a selection they will have. So are these decent prices or can I do better?

A friend of mine is thinking of purchasing a used 2003 pilot ex-L for 21.5k

vehicle does have DVD but no navigation. leather interior car has about 23k miles on it.

Car seems to be in very good shape but I suggested he take it to a HONDA dealership before closing the deal.

assuming it checks ok, does the price seem fair?

thanks in advance for any feedback
  • larscalarsca Member Posts: 60
I truly did "buy" it over the phone. Basically what happened was I emailed all local Honda dealers, requesting a quote. Then my phone started ringing, and I was quoted anything from $26,500 to $27,111 with free oil changes for as long as I owned the car (that's a whole whopping $3-400 savings for me, if I keep the car for 100,000 miles).

One dealer called me up, said the car's invoice is $27xxx, minus $1,000 incentive from Honda, minus his holdback (mumbling $900 or so) so the final price was $25,708. OTD would have been $27,9xx something.

Of course, once I got there he didn't have the color I wanted, so I ended up with my second choice color. "This one has optional wheel locks and mud guards, that's normally a $400 extra, but I won't charge you any for it." Interestingly enough, just the day before I had visited the Costco designated Honda dealer (Costco price was invoice + $100= $27,300 by the way). The dealer explained just that racket for me. "Sometimes we have to trade cars with other dealers, they usually put wheel locks and mud guards on their cars. It costs them $140 to do, so we have to pay that to them. However, they usually charge the customer $400 for it."

Anyway, at this point I haven't even mentioned my trade in. So, we confirm the price of $25,808, then I mention my trade in. I had an 11 year old Accord with 145,000 miles on it in mechanically OK shape, but with messed up bumpers. I wanted at least $2,000 for it. They offered me $1,500. I said I wanted 2, they countered with 1,800, and I said let's split the difference and do $1,900. Hand shake. Done deal..

    That's my story.

I've had the Pilot for almost a week now, and I've put 400 miles on it. I like the ride a lot, and I think it's a good quality car. I love the space, and the pick up power. I enjoy the high seating and the fact that I can see brake lights so far up ahead that I can avoid the panic stop when all of a sudden traffic slows for no apparent reason. My only concern is that the car is so quiet, that there is an annoying noice coming from the driver's door somewhere. It's really not much of a noice, but with the cabin so quiet I can really hear it. I wish I could figure out what it is and how to fix it...

Thanks to the postings on this board, I was able to purchase an EX-L this past weekend for $27,700 (including dest). The final price OTD (including mud flaps, cross bars, doc fees and temp registration) was $28,100. I will pay sales tax when I register the vehicle in my home state. Thanks especially to lawduck for providing specific dealer info. So far we love the Pilot!

Would you mind sharing which dealer this is?

I assume the $25708 price includes the destination charge? And the $100 extra is for the wheel locks and mud guards?

A dealer told me today that Honda is going to up the destination charge to $565 after Aug 20. Anyone else heard this?

    Thanks for sharing!
  • normkolnormkol Member Posts: 135
In both cases, after adding in 6% sales tax, you show about $1,000 above for your OTD price. What is in that OTD figure? Seems kind of high.

I live in Florida and was quoted $30,644 for a 2005 Pilot EXL w/Navigation. I went ahead and took it since I wanted red, and they were quickly slipping through my fingers. So far, I think it's a decent deal, however the "dealer prep" fee is $499!!! I didn't have any luck trying to negotiate that, but others have. I surrendered in the end with a decent price and a good trade amount.

I just bought my brand new Honda Pilot EX-Leather for $27800. The price includes the destination charge. Tax, title, license and document fee ($50) are extra. I do not have any trade in. I am in the Northwest Chicago surburb in IL.

I got a lot of useful information from this forum. Therefore, I want to share my purchase experience with you, hoping that it can benefit other people.

I sent out price quote via the internet to 10-15 dealerships close to my home. The quote I got ranged from $28000 to $28600. I then asked for $27800 at the dealership of convinience. It could meet the price. The whole process was very smooth. I only met the sale person when I picked up the car at the transaction. Everything else was done via email or phone. I have a good experience in purchasing my Pilot.

Is there any news of financing from Honda ? Will they start 1.9%/ 2.9% APRs soon for 2005 Pilot ?
    Thanks.
  • scrim67scrim67 Member Posts: 7
Just an update. My buddy ended up negotiating a few hundred off that Pilot aforementioned above.

His final price was $20,800 which we both thought was a very good price.

Car needed new brakes and some other slight TLC so the seller was willing to negotiate a bit more.

Still a solid deal for a solid guy!

My Brother just purchased a Silver Pilot at Open Road Honda in NJ.

    Internet Price 29,342.00
    Dest. 515.00
NY Sales Tax 1,621.14 (8.375% of total above less trade in)
    Registr. 55.00
    Docum. Fees 198.00
    ==========================
    Total 31,731.14
