    Hey folks...just an FYI.

Posting your email address is not a good idea on a public message board as the spybots that troll through will pick it up and you will most likely begin receiving spam email. As only forum members can access other member profiles, you can make your email address public and then reference members to check your profile for your address. You have 30 minutes to edit/delete after posting your message. After the 30 minute window, only a host can delete your post.

    Hello all,
We are thinking about taking ED on a 530IXT wagon. Does anyone know if they only discount the base price of the car or the options as well?

    Thanks,
    Thompjbr

The discount is on the car only, all of the options have the same invoice price and MSRP.

    Hello-
The BMW ED website instructs that we have to make the order 3 months in advance for the new 3 series cars. Does this mean we have to purchase the car 3 months in advance(and maybe another 1 month for pickup/delivery)? Wouldn't that mean that we are paying for the car 3 months of payments even though we don't have it yet?

I am seriously checking the ED program. I was in Germany 2 years ago and really enjoyed driving around Europe, so I don't mind making a trip if it will save me some bucks.

    Thanks

When you order a car has very little to do with when you actually start paying for that car. I leased a 2002 530i which I took delivery on in Munich via the ED program. The order was placed in January of 2002, I made my first lease payment in March. I then took delivery of the car in Munich in April where I drove it around for a week and a half before I dropped it off to be shipped home. The car arrived at my local dealership just about a month later. According to my calculations, I paid a total of seven weeks of lease payments where I was not in posession of the car. Apparently that has now changed because I hear that BMW is now helping out by making a small contribution to cover the time when the car is on the boat. Either way, I figured that since I saved over $200 per month, I saved enough to cover my extra payments in less than five months.

    1. When u reserve ED @ a US dealer, u kind of haggle and agree on the price there?
2.bmwusa.com says u can save up to 7% of retail price. is that off US MSRP or ED price? Where do i find out about ED invoice price?
    3. ED price of 33760 does not include shipping cost to US ?

Thanks a lot for helping with lots of questions.
  • 307web307web Member Posts: 1,033
BMW would never say that you could save anything off the ED price, so of course they mean MSRP.
    "Retail" price. MS"R"P.
There is no separate shipping costs needed, since the car was going to be shipped to the US anyway. The price of shipping is included.

Stupid question: Do the lease miles in Europe count toward your total lease miles? I would assume they do since the warranty starts when you take delivery in Europe.

Hi, i am leaving for my european delivery of X3 on the 1st of april. is anyone keen to loan the european navigation dvd for 10days. let me know your terms.
  • 307web307web Member Posts: 1,033
The BMW delivery center should be loaning/renting these DVDs out, but they don't.
It really is a annoying disservice on their part.
All they need to do is preload the European DVD and then remove them when the car is ready to be shipped to the US. Then they could either install the US disc or leave the disc out and let the US dealership do it.

Visor - We did ED on our 04 330CiC w/nav and bought the Euro disk for about $160. Problem is the Europeans hadn't converted to DVD yet, so ours is CD-ROM based. Not sure if it's compatible with the X3 nav system. If so, you're welcome to borrow it.

BMW should be loaning these - at least to non-Euro buyers who will have little use for it once we're back home. We dropped off in Nice - basically a trucking company; vintage WWII furniture & equipment (& people). Highest-tech piece of equipment they had was a 30-yr old IBM selectric typewriter. Not sure if they'd know what a DVD is, much less what to do with it when we handed it to them. That said, M-B uses almost all the same drop-off centers, and they loan the nav DVDs to their ED customers....

Check if it's compatible - my email should be in my profile. I'll just need it back when you're done, as we're going back in Jan to pick up an e90.

I have talked to BMW USA and they told me that there is no refunds/contribution for leased cars, as it was said here before (that BMW pays for one month). They also told me that all pricing is at a discretion of their dealers, which I find not believable because the BMW FS prescribes the Residual and MF, and the dealer may choose to adjust those, thus adjusting the price as a result. Is there any way to obtain the written document that says that the leasing of an ED BMW could include 1 month payment reduction, because I doubt that the dealer(s) will be willing to grant it?

This is a message copied from a BMW salesperson on another forum... known to be reliable

BMW has just announced Lease and Retail enhancements effective December 1, 2004. :

    - The length of time for contract signing before delivery has been reduced from thirty (30)days to fourteen (14) days.

    - Customers can stay abroad for up to 90 days. During that time, insurance is required, listing BMW FS as loss payee. Easy Pay will be required for customers who extend their stay.

    - Customers will no longer be required to make two (2) payments at contract signing.

    - BMW FS will pay the second payment for the customer (on lease only). This payment will appear on the customer's first invoice as a credit. If the customer opts for a Pre-Pay Lease, the total amount due should be reduced by one monthly payment.

    - A lease rate adder of .0003 will be added to the published applicable rate for all ED leases.

    - Retail contracts will continue to have 60 days until first payment.

    regards,
    kyfdx

My dealer is asking for signing lease contract 30 days before delivery in Munich (and not 14 days as you suggested). Is their a place where it can be confirmed?

Has anyone done a recent lease with ED, who would know this?

You might ask your dealer to check into it.. These changes have only been in place for three months, and they may not have done many ED deals since then...

I signed ED for a 325i a few days ago (buying not leasing though). It's 14 days before pickup according to my dealer. Hope that helps

Thanks kyfdx for the information, I will try to convince my dealer to play by this. I am still intrigued by the BMW FS rep, or whoever answers their phones, by being fully clueless about this and telling me what I stated in my previous message (894).

    Hi all,
I just joined the Edmunds forum...I did my European Delivery in april 04 and for the most part, it was just an amazing experience. The only dissapointing part was the delivery in Germany. It consisted of a squirrely man in a white coat sort of saying, "well, here's your car! off you go!"...

I ordered my 3 series with nav and I was able to get my hands on a 2003 DVD to use out there. It's been sitting on my bookshelf for the last year so I think I should pass on the goodness! I put it up on ebay but if somebody wants it, let me know... I'm not sure which other models it works with but it's the NAV TEQ 2003-2 Europe High DVD
    Cheers

Our delivery experience was just the opposite. An attractive young woman explained all the operation characteristics, answered all our questions, took pictures and appeared willing to talk to us as long as we wanted to stay.

I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Talking about attractive women...fly Lufthansa and you get gorgeous young blonds who serve as real hostesses. Try any american airline and you get old rude women....LOL-

Anyone else had trouble with Lufthansa 2 for 1 link not working ? It directed me to the regular site ,and prices of $3700.00 in june/july...Ouch!

  • jon330cicjon330cic Member Posts: 20
DL - from everything I've read, you need to call Lufthansa on the phone to get the 2-for-1 deal. There doesn't appear to be anywhere on Lufthansa's site where you can book this flight online.

In order to use this program, you have to book in "Q" fare, which is far from the lowest fare class. We just booked flights for our next ED, and it was cheaper to just buy regular tickets on Delta than to use the Lufthansa deal. And yes, we'll have to deal with 58-year old flight attendents that weigh 165 lbs.... but at least we'll both be earning frequent flier miles for the trip (I don't use United's FF program anymore).

Jun/Jul fares are always the highest of the year. Try link title (log in as a guest - you don't have to register). You can search for the best fares a month at a time on most of the major airlines. If you have a little flexibility on travel dates, it's a great way to find out the cheapest day to travel.

    Good luck!

I found better deals on Orbitz, and AA. I got my tickets for about $740 from Dallas. Best of luck to you.
  • 530ir1150r530ir1150r Member Posts: 263
It may be less expensive to fly into one of the European hubs (London, Paris, Amsterdam, etc.) and take a train to Munich. The Rhine Valley is easier to view from a train and you arrive in downtown Munich. The train station is also the main station for both the U and S subways. This also is good if you want to spend a few days in a large city that is not car friendly before delivery and also eliminates jet lag before hitting the roads.
  • dl7265dl7265 Member Posts: 1,381
Thanks for all the replies! Thats a good price from here in Dallas, allways seems like our hub is more expensive. Are you on a direct flight on AA ?

    Thanks,
    DL
  • planomlplanoml Member Posts: 244
I don't think AA has any direct flights to Munich. I'm flying through London (Gatwick). Coming back, I'm flying out of Paris, via New York.
  • johnbeach1johnbeach1 Member Posts: 7
Yes you are paying in advance. And you need to keep your existing vehicle because it takes quite a while to get your car after you drop it back off with the shipper. But all that aside, it's a great experience. I did it on my '02 325ci and had the time of my life breaking it in on a 1,300 tour of Germany. Looking forward to the doing it again in 2 years when the new 325 convertible is introduced. The next time I'll drive over the Alps and down into Italy.

Hi everybody. This is my first post here on these forums and I'm also considering getting my first bmw. I've been researching cars for the past 2-3 months and I've finally decided that I want a 2006 330i. I've read about people claiming to have negotiated prices of around 37,000$ for a well equipped 06' 330i through european delivery, compared to the 43,000$ msrp (after options/packages) on bmwusa. I have also read in other forums that you can show up in Munich and pay to have them do the drop off for you and be in and out in the same day. This seems like a pretty simple way to save lots of money if you have the extra time to go through the ED process. Since this is going to be my first bmw... haha actually it's going to be the first car that I've bought myself, I have a few questions. I'm going from a 92' Mitsubishi Galant (don't laugh, the AC in this car is colder than my friend's AC in his 03' G35), to a new 330i. By the way, I'm 20 years old and not one single dollar of this money will come from my parents. This is all money that I've worked for and saved up (Just incase you guys think I'm some spoiled rich kid). I was wondering if you guys could help me out and give me a few pointers on how to go about buying my car. I know this is such a general and maybe stupid question but I'm a little bit overwhelmed by this whole process.

I really want SMG with my car but I know that it won't be available on the 330i until Fall, according to what I've read. So my question is, "Will I be able to order my car in the summer with SMG since it won't be until 3-4 months until I will be able to pick it up in Munich, and by then, SMG should be available." or will I have to wait until Fall to order it when SMG is actually available and then go pick it up sometime in early 06 and then wait 2 more months for it to arrive in california... omg that's such a long time

Also, if I do end up having to wait until Fall for the SMG, should I still consider doing ED since perhaps the U.S. price will stabilize by then.

And should I propose an offer to the dealerships or give the dealerships the car details and just compare the quotes they give me?

In either case, what's a ballpark figure I should expect or ask for? The MSRP of the 330i I configured is $42,545. That's with the premium and sport package and also the steptronic transmission (since there is no SMG available).

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide.

    -Allen

I am getting ready to place my order for ED in early October for an E90 325i. One idea I have is to pick up the car on a Monday and drop the car off in Paris on Tuesday midday. I would then spend my time in Paris and take the Chunnel to London. I have some reservations about driving my brand new bimmer in Europe. I have several questions and I would love to get as much feedback as possible:

    1. Is TT Car Transit in Paris tough to find?
    2. Will this drive be a nightmare for traffic?
    3. I was thinking of spending Monday night in Strasbourg; Is that far enough west to get to Paris by midday if I get up early?
    4. How long does it take to actually take delivery of the car in Munich?
    5. Is there time for a factory tour on Monday?

    Thanks in advance.
  • shiposhipo Member Posts: 9,148
    Point by point:

    1) While I didn't drop my car off in Paris (we drove back to Munich), I did happen to drive past the Harms offices several times on that trip and never did see the place. That said, I wasn't looking too hard.
    2) Getting out of Munich can be a pain, ditto getting into Paris. In my case, I managed to arrive in Paris at about 4:00 pm, and naturally from the south (we were headed to the 8th on the north side of Paris), requiring me to navigate the Périphérique at rush hour. :-/ As if that wasn't bad enough, I arrived at the traffic circle surrounding the Arc de Triumph at almost exactly 5:00, "YIKES! I've gotta drive my brand new 530i around that?" Not for the faint of heart. Hopefully by arriving midday it won't be as crazy for you.
    3) I should think that Strasbourg is easily far enough west to allow you to hit Paris by midday. Mrs. Shipo and I left Paris about noon, spent several hours at the Belleau Wood Cemetery, and were still able to get to Luxembourg by dusk.
    4) Most folks take about an hour and a half to two hours for delivery.
    5) Depending upon what time you take delivery. Are you flying into Munich on Monday? If so, then it depends upon what time your flight gets in. If not, get there early and it should be no problem.

    Best Regards,
    Shipo

Well, I've put in a dealer order and hope to target Fri, July 15 as a delivery date. I know that the Customer Center in Munich is open until 3:30pm. If my flight is scheduled to land at 10:25am that day, can I make it through customs, get my baggage, get to the hotel (I will have wife and a 2yr old in tow), and still get to the factory in time to pick up the car? Advice from experienced ED buyers on this point would be very much appreciated.

  • shiposhipo Member Posts: 9,148
That shouldn't be too much of a problem especially if you are doing it all by Taxi (expensive, like maybe $100, but probably fairly quick). My wife and I used the S-Bahn/U-Bahn to get from the airport to the Freimann (IIRC) U-Bahn stop. I think the entire thing was something like $12 and took a little over an hour, including the walk from the stop to the ED Center, which was probably less than a half of a mile. They warn you that Fridays are fairly busy, and maybe in the Summer they are, however, we arrived at the ED center at about 1:00 pm on a Friday in April, and were out of there by 2:30 at the latest, including having lunch.

This might be able to go into many boards so forgive me if I have picked the wrong one.

I am planning on doing ED from the West Coast in October and know that the shipping process can take a couple of months. To combat the shipping time, my sales person adviced me to do a 42 month lease instead of 36. He said that if I go with the 36 month lease, it will end up being about 33 months of actual US driving and that would feel "too fast" to quote him directly.

I wanted to get everyone's thought on this and since it has sparked my curiosity, does anyone know the MF and residuals for a E90 325i 10K and 12K miles per year for 42 months?

    Thanks everyone,
    Selm
  • 530ir1150r530ir1150r Member Posts: 263
Short answer is yes, I'm sure you can make it there by 3:30.

The long answer is why, what is the rush? Do you want to have the experience or enjoy the experience? You land at 10:25, leave the airport at 12:00 (with a 2 year old ready for breakfast), get to your hotel at 1:00, leave for delivery center at 2:00, get there by 2:30 and they close at 3:30. If Murphy is out of town.

ED saves money on the car. ED will not save you money. Focus on your vacation, the car is a means to have a better vacation. If you need the car on Friday, leave Thursday, walk around Downtown Munich, unwind, get a good nights sleep and pick the car up first thing Friday morning.

If you will be in Munich a day or two, you will not need the car. Munich has an excellent subway system. Pick the car up first thing Monday morning before leaving town. A morning delivery allows you to see all the cars to be delivered that day.

At 10:25, you will be tired, jet lagged and hungry. Why add rushing and frustration to the equation? I apologize for pontificating, I know it is none of my business.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,604
I'm not sure why what the salesman "feels" is important.. I think he "feels" that if you do a 42 month lease, the payment will be lower, and you are more likely to make the deal.. At least, that is what I "feel". ;)

    Okay, jokes over...

Anyway, I don't have 42 month residuals.. In general, the 42 month leases aren't that great of a deal on BMWs.. When they are, you will usually see them advertised..

I would think you'll have about 34 months of US driving, from the time you make the first payment (15 days before ED pickup), until you get the car from the dealer.

    '06 325i
    36mo/30K 64% residual.. .00285 ED money factor.
    36mo/36K 63% residual.. .00285 ED money factor.

Thanks for your response. I will pursue the 36 month option. I guess if I "feel" that I don't have it long enough, I can always extend the lease a couple of months as I have heard that BMWFS is very accommodating in that area.

Last June, My family and I drove a Renault Trafic Combi (7 passenger van) from Paris to Strasbourg without ANY problem. If you are interested, there is a WONDERFUL hotel in Gegenbach - just EAST (maybe 10 to 15 km) of Strasbourg - called the Hotel Benz. It would be well worth your consideration as a place to stay, rather than in Strasbourg. The address is: Mattenhofweg 3, 77723 Gegenbach. The phone: 011-49-7803-934-840.

    Good luck.

Thanks Shipo and 530ir1150r for your replies!

Going to the latter's point, we're definitely picking up the car as a beginning to our vacation in Germany (actually, a trip to see my sister and her family). The idea of taking my 2yr old all the way to Germany only for a day or so to pick up my car is too painful to contemplate. I'll probably take your advice and head in a day early to get comfortable and shake off the jet lag. It's said elsewhere that the airport hotel at MUC is really very nice.

Given that we were going to Germany anyway, it ends up that I will save quite a bit of money all around. Free airfare for one of us, plus savings on (breathtakingly expensive) European auto rental helps out a lot. So does signing a deal for a 330i at $1000 over invoice price! I'm looking forward to the car.

We stayed at the Four Points in Olympic Park. Take the S train to the main station and a cab to the hotel. BMWs World Headquarters is essentially right across the street. The delivery center is two U train stops away from the hotel, switch trains and two more stops. Maybe 5-10 minutes total and BMW sends you walking directions from the last stop. Parking is available at the front door and is 2 or 3 levels above the ground.

From the hotel to downtown is less than 10 minutes by subway and the autobahns north and east are less than 10 minutes away.

    Enjoy your trip.
